I honestly don't have a bad thing to say about this place. I've been here a handful of times and I've always had good service and amazing food. Their coffee is good. And hello portion sizes are HUGE! My omelet was bigger than my face (and I have a big head). Next time, I'm sharing my breakfast.
As we walked out my dining companion says, "Why is there still a huge line at the Flying Biscuit? Don't they realize the food is better here?"
My sentiments exactly.

I love finding new places to eat. This is a very small place and sometimes you have to wait but it is worth it. I got a steak sandwich and it was cooked very well. The bread was toasted well and the meat was delicious.
They are only open until 3pm, so no dinner. They have a lot of breakfast food, and I did order some bacon (I know, that is a shock right?). Delicious all around.
I do think it is a requirement to have at least five tattoos to work here though.

WOW! I guess I'm the only one who didn't enjoy their time here. I've never heard nor seen this place, until I read the reviews here on Yelp. Me, My "it's complicated" partner and my darling daughter went here this past Saturday. There was no wait, so we came in a sat down at the first table. Every booth (4) was taken, as well as 3 people at the counter eating. I made eye contact with the waitress (only one for the entire joint). Then the wait began. I watched as she took the orders of 3 other partys; this was ok with me as we were the last ones to come in. Then she just hung out at the register. Then a couple came in and the waitress met them at the front door. The couple asked if they could order take-out, the waitress said sure and went to the front counter to give them menus and take their orders. This is when i was mad. Juan was ready to go, I was too hungry to leave. I had given our waitress the benefit of the doubt, because we were the last to come in. But we had no menus, no water, not even a hello. but she did know we were there, b/c we made eye contact!
I then walked up to the counter and asked for 2 menus, the nice girl who was in charge of stocking everything and cleaning the tables gave them to me. I looked over the menu and was ready to order. If I failed to mention the time yet, we had been there for 30 minutes now. after we looked over the menu, another 13 minutes passed before an older gentleman (i guess the owner) came over and sat down next to me, apologizing saying in a place that big, people can get overlooked. In a place this big? with 4 booths and a counter? He took our orders. I ordered a breakfast burrito with jalapenos and spinach. Juan got a BLT w/ chips and a beef quesadilla. I ordered a water and juan got a coke. he repeated the orders, so i know he got it correct. But 3 minutes after he left our the table, the girl waitress came and said did y'all want something to drink? I guess our order was "lost in translation"
When our food came back I didn't have any peppers in my burrito but I did have black beans, which made my burrito soggy and unappetizing. My eggs were still runny inside, I don't like runny eggs. My food had absolutely no taste to it. The only taste I was getting, even after putting both red and green salsa and hot sauce on top was that of the flour tortilla. I was not impressed. My grits had no taste to them as well. Everyone knows that once your water hits a boil, you need to add salt before adding the grits. You cant add salt after, the grits just wont take the flavor.
Juan's tortilla on his quesadilla was crispy, just the way we like it. But the ground beef was of poor quality and very greasy. It made me sick just looking at it. That plate didn't get eaten. The BLT was ok. But it's really hard to mess up a BLT. The bacon wasn't crispy. they didn't bring Juan's chips, so we had to remind them that chips came as a side.
The only good thing about this place was the OJ. It tasted very fresh and sweet.
Needless to say, I wont be going back.

Strolled into Gato Bizco the other day, surprised to find many empty seats, juxtaposed with hungry hordes lined up outside the Flying Biscuit, just across the street. I love cats, so I of course appreciated the multitude of feline decorations, especially the three Pete the Cat pieces.
I sat at the bar, watching a greasy granola boy cook my garden omelet, stuffed with chopped bell peppers and other vegetables and plenty of cheddar cheese. My sides included a cup of black beans and a delicious biscuit. (A second greasy granola boy brought me my food.)
I am flabbergasted that Gato Bizco doesn't get some of the Flying Biscuit traffic that has grown tired of waiting for a seat, as the food is as good or--dare I say--better...

Food as your momma would cook it -- if she was a thin, generously tattooed young woman working a cook top, three skillets, a toaster and a flurry of spatulas, spoons and the like with 15-20 people anxiously awaiting a tasty meal.
The place is small but cozy. I sat at the counter with a friend (the one and only Zack E.) and we watched our food being cooked. The service was fast, friendly, and cat-like. Meow.
I had a grilled smoked turkey and cheese on rye. Tasty but artery clogging with lots of butter for grilling and a huge pile of melted cheese. I had to take my package of potato chips to go since I was so full from the big sandwich.
I'd definitely hit this place again and maybe try something from their breakfast menu next time.

This is my fav brunch spot in Atlanta. I feel feel blessed that its only a short walk from my house....but I dont come here just for the convenience. The owner is a super nice, funny guy and he greatly contributes to the cozy atmosphere inside. I find the cat motif more welcoming than the forced-funky feeling of the Flying Biscuit accross the street.
The food is great. I always get at least one sweet potato pancake....heavenly! On my past visit I ordered the bacon egg and colby cheese biscuit...lets just say it was the best breakfast sandwich Ive ever had (sorry Chick-Fil-A). Like people have said before....I always walk out the front door and wonder why there are so many people waiting in line at the Biscuit.

I visited here cause there was a movie filming at Flying Biscuit across the street. Quaint little breakfast nook. Not a lot of seating, but it doesn't seem to matter. The wait staff are very nice and friendly, quick to take care of you and always wanting to refill your drinks and stuff like that.
I got the Huevos Rancheros and enjoyed it a lot. It was a great dish. I got more salsa, cause i love salsa and it helped add more spice to the dish. My breakfast partner got an Omelet and he seemed very happy with it.
Unfortunately, i probably would still pick the flying biscuit over this place, but I'm glad to have gone and know that it's a solid backup if FB is too full or another movie is filming there.

I'd been craving the Flying Biscuit for days and I finally went down to Candler Park to treat myself to their oatmeal pancakes and biscuits. On a whim, though, I decided to try the Gato, mostly b/c it was finally open at a time I was near it (they have such weird hours, IMO...).
I didn't realize it was so teeny, but I knew it was good, thanks to Yelpers. But I've heard nothing about the menu except for the Huevos Rancheros (and an omelet or two, which I'm not really a fan of...).
Huevos Rancheros this, Huevos Rancheros that...
I felt like rebelling against Yelp and not get the Gato's I guess "signature" dish. I opted for a patty melt. It was 9am but what the hell, right?
I'm so glad I got that. The huevos rancheros may be good (I wouldn't know) but this sandwich is sure to blow it out of the water, if only the yelpers would write about it! So I'm taking it upon myself...
It has some sort of "Russian" sauce. I don't know what that meant or what was in it, but I can say it absolutely made the sandwich. At one point, my onions fell out (it's a messy sandwich), so I left them on the plate. Not being much of an onion fan, I can usually take them or leave them, even on a patty melt. Then I realized they helped make the sandwich taste amazing, so I put them back in. So with that random sauce of I don't know what, the onions, and the hunk of meat...oh man what a great brunch.
I got the grits as a side so I could feel a little more breakfasty, but they were nothing special. If I could have that patty melt with the Flying Biscuit's grits, paired with an unsweet tea (yeah I'm still Southern!), I'd be in heaven.
As for the service, eh, it was ok. The chick waiting on me was nice but she never checked on me to ask how it was (pet peeve of mine). But she did refill my tea and was friendly and was interested in my Sudoku.
So now I've been craving that patty melt for a couple days instead of the FB's oatmeal pancakes with warm peach compote (yum...oh god, now I don't know what I want).
So if you're reading Yelp's reviews on this place, sure, get excited about the huevos rancheros, but don't put all your money on it. It seems that this place can't go wrong with what they're cooking...

Although the menu didn't look terribly ambitious I loved the sweet potato pancakes and thought everything my husband and I ordered was perfectly cooked. If it was supposed to be crisp, it was. The manager came around and asked how it had been and were we from the neighborhood. Good, reliable diner with friendly service.
I need to try it again. I really enjoyed Gato Bizco but feel like I didn't get a good sampling of what they had to offer. The pancakes look awesome. They're huge and fluffily-thick. I had a sweet potato one and I felt that the flavor was lacking, but the texture was incredible. It's litereally a cake.
Girlfriend's biscuit was enormous, but I also felt lacking a little something.
They seem to have quite a large burger selection, so I'm eager to try that one day.
The place is tiny, but I really enjoyed sitting at the bar watching each creation come hot off the griddle.

For starters, I'd give this place 3.5 stars if I could.
I've only been here twice, both times for brunch. The first time - which was a long time ago - I had the huevos rancheros and they were tasty, but I don't really remember specifics other than that the portion was HUGE. This is actually a pet peeve of mine - most any day I'd rather pay a little less and get a smaller portion, both so that I don't shove my face full of food (under my control, I know) and so I don't waste food by leaving it on the plate or bringing it home and relegating it to leftover purgatory. It's not just the huevos either - on my most recent visit, I watched as the cook made my husband's omelet with 6 eggs!
This past weekend I had the tofu scramble (don't remember what it was called - cowpoke, cow eyes, or something "cow") and I have to say I was disappointed. The menu describes the item as containing green peppers, mushrooms, onions, and cheese. There was definitely cheese, but I think I only had 1-2 bites with a couple small chunks of the veggies. It was basically a pile of mushy tofu cubes and melted cheese. There were no contrasting textures and more crunch (what the green peppers should have provided) would definitely have made the dish better. I woudn't order it again (if I'm in the mood for a tofu scramble I'll head to Ria's Bluebird Cafe, where the dish comes with lots of broccoli, black beans, and pesto...mmmm).
Those things said, there's something about this place that's very warm and satisfying. Maybe it's just sitting at the bar three feet away from the person making your food and being able to watch it all. I will definitely try it again and just plan to split an entree and a side with a partner the next time.

2nd time my girlfriend and I have visited this place, and 2nd time we have left stuffed and extremely happy. I had both the sweet potato pancake, and the heuvos rancheros. The pancake was delicious, and only needed butter in my opinion. The huevos was so light and full of flavor it just melted in my mouth. Awesome place, although don't get tricked by this site, they close at 2:30 in the afternoon, so don't get there too late!

I love breakfast. I truly believe it is the best meal of the day. Omelets, Pancakes, French Toast, Scrambles, Biscuits, etc. You can't go wrong! After countless weekends eating Flying Biscuit, Stone Soup, and even J. Chris. we decided to go for something new this morning. I had always noticed Gato Bizco across the street from the ever popular Flying Biscuit. Of course what stuck out most was the people going in and out happy and satisfied while I was still waiting, and waiting some more, for my name to be called.
Upon entering the cross-eyed cat I put my name down on a waiting list with about 3 other names ahead of mine. The place is small, I'd say about 6 booths and a good size counter. Two women cook the food, one woman serves, and the owner, an older gentleman, seats and serves. I was immediatley asked if I wanted anything to drink while I waited, to which I jumped at the chance for a cup of coffee. We waited outside, looking at the mass of people outside Flying Biscuit and thanking God herself for not being one of them. Within ten minutes my name was called and we were seated at the counter. I was hoping for a counter seat after reading many reviews about being able to watch your food being cooked.
The breakfast menu isn't huge, but it seems like it is with every item enticing you. I ended up ordering the half-size bizco omelet which came with onion, spinach, mushroom, and cheese. On the side I got an order of soysage, potatoes, and a biscuit. To say the least, it was a TON of food! But this being my first time here I wanted to try an assortment of things. Our food was out in about 10 minutes and I enjoyed watching the two women throw it together. I slowly attempted to tackle the enormous serving of breakfast heaven in front of me, and failed. The omelet was without a doubt the best that I have ever had. Each bite was filled with gooey cheesey goodness and the vegetables were evenly distributed throughout. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned, the biscuit was gynormous, flaky, and buttery, and the soysage was perfectly crispy.
The service here was impeccable, not too in-your-face and not too layed back.
We will definitely be returning, and this may become our new favorite breakfast spot.

Say what you will, but lesbians know their eggs. Don't believe me? Then hustle down to Candler Park and experience what I feel is the grandest breakfast in town, delivered with a side order of fierceness. As a regular customer for many moons, I can state emphatically that Gato Bizco has never dropped the ball. Oh, occasionally one of their younger, shaky dog servers will allow the hot water for my tea to run out, but I'm not here to nit-pick. Let me walk you through my last visit.
My new paramour, Mr. G, insisted we flee the duplex last weekend. I'd been refinishing patio furniture, and with all the rain, I had to move the noxious objects inside. It smelled like gasoline mixed with embalming fluid (and my huffing days are OVER!) Mr. G. demanded a hearty breakfast and I knew just the place.
Located in Candler Park, Gato Bizco serves as culinary stepsister to the Flying Biscuit, which stares smugly from across the street. The wait for a table inside the Flying Biscuit borders on masochistic; it reminds me of huddled Russians lining up for bread before Glasnost. Breakfast at the Flying Biscuit is fine, but merely fine. Were I to spend an hour waiting for ANYTHING there damned well better be singing animatronic creatures at the end of it.
Mr. G. and I spent only ten minutes lamenting the suckers across the street before being shown our table. The inside is simplicity itself: four booths, six stools, and a wide array of feline portraiture. It truly is a greasy spoon, which may keep some folks settling for the comparatively Crayola setting of the Flying Biscuit.
As always, tattooed lovelies - riot grrrls with eyes of steel, but hearts of gold - fielded our order and fixed our food. For perhaps the thousandth time, I had their simple egg and cheese sandwich served on a biscuit with a side of cheese grits. Here I must stress: Gato's biscuits FAR outshine those vaunted puffs across the street. Each is an adventure in over-sized flakiness (look who's TALKING!), squashing their squat, yellow, plain-jane competition like so many grapes. The softly scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly with a generous helping of cheese. The grits were creamy catnip, topped with shredded cheddar and jack, the perfect mix.
Mr. G feasted on the Sweet Potato Pancakes, a decedent platter doused in gooey syrup and gobs of butter with a side of Sausage. I couldn't help my fork from dancing onto his plate repeatedly. Such a breakfast probably requires a shot of Lipitor afterward, but then Gato delivers such comforting delights, why NOT play Russian Roulette with our LDL levels?
Mr G. and I continued the day with a Target run feeling completely sated. The duplex may have reeked of death, but with a staunch breakfast and stirring company, the morning couldn't have been brighter.

Being a cat-lover + a Candler Park lover + a small diner lover + a lover of well prepared, perfectly portioned diner food, Gato Bizco = as good as it gets!
My husband and I made our second visit here on Saturday, and had an unbelievable brunch-time lunch. The service was right on key. The Owner came by twice to make sure we were happy with our server and our selections; he was very pleasant.
My BLT w/ cheese hit the spot, and my husband ate his Philly cheese steak so fast, that I didn't even get a chance to steal a bite. My sandwich had perfectly cooked bacon, had zero grease, and the side of skillet potatoes were delicious.
If you haven't been, then add it to the list of local brunch/lunch stops you need to make! I plan on making it one of my regular stops...

best Burger In ATL. yep. better than Miss Ann's, theyre close, but Gato, well it's better. the service and atmosphere is grreat too. good place. support.
Every time I go into Gato Bizco for weekend brunch, I marvel at the herds waiting to get into Flying Biscuit across the street. Gato Bizco offers superior food, service, and ambiance. Hell's bells, the biscuits are even far and away better.
The diner style set-up with an open range and counter seating give the feeling of being in someone's comfy kitchen. Hanging Golden Pothos curtain the front windows to dapple the morning sun trying to break in. And there's always room for one more friend to squeeze into the squishy booths.
And, oh my, am I waxing purple with this review, so Gato Bizco must be really good, right?

Went here a week ago and I loved it. Really cosy, family oriented atmosphere to the place. I felt like I'd stepped into someone's kitchen and was treated that way.
The service was top notch, the food was delicious and the portions were HUGE. I got the egg white omelette with the tofu sausage. I think I'm going back for more tomorrow because god it was good and I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.
Gato Bizco is my new favorite breakfast place. Also happened to run into another yelper while I was there!
(Please note I want to give Gato Bizco 4.5 stars...but I can't.)
Nom, nom, nom, nom...oh wait, the review. Right.
Eating here is such a pleasure. Jim loves the sweet potato pancakes. I am happy to say that when he can't eat them all, I eat the leftovers. They are that good. I am partial to the huevos rancheros with red and green salsa. Even though try as I might, I can never finish the whole thing (probably has something to do with eating the leftover pancakes).
Yes, on the weekend you have to wait. But as long as it isn't 32 degrees outside, you can people watch and drink your coffee. And laugh at all the suckas trying to get into TFB. :P
Gato Bizco takes Cash, VISA, and MasterCard.

I don't know the story behind the naming of this little spot, but cross-eyed cats must have something to do with being yummy.
This is the place I return to regularly to satisfy my sweet potato pancake craving. Mind you, before this place, I didn't even KNOW I had a sweet potato pancake craving. I've introduced anyone who will let me to this place and we all agree: man, this stuff is good.
Every time I visited Atlanta, I'd stop in here before the airport.
However, now I live here. Thusly, now I'm getting fat.
I don't agree with the label of Tex-Mex that is sometimes thrown around, but they will cook you up their own brand of huevos rancheros and throw in some tortillas. More importantly, they do so without pretension. A lot of the employees and patrons are highly tatted hipsters . . . . sans the disaffected yawn and attitude. I know, it sounds amazing.
It is.

I miss this place so much! The food was very good, and I love the restaurant itself-- a tiny diner with loads of personality (an obsession with cross-eyed cats) and no cheesiness like theme restaurants. The staff is excellent as well--nice, personable, and way cooler than I can ever hope to be. :)
Bonus points for veggie sausage and general vegetarian friendliness!

I've been back to Gato several times over the last year and it has graduated to one of my favorite brunch places in Atlanta. It is the only place I don't mind waiting because I know once I sit down I'll feel all warm and cozy and will get consistently yummy food.
The staff rocks and I think this might be one of the only places I know of that will bring me milk and chocolate syrup when I ask for Chocolate milk (which I'm not even sure is on the menu) so I can mix it the way I like it. It really is the small things.
I love the Gato....maybe I'll see you there sometime.

Yum Yum! I totally enjoyed our brunch today at Gato Bizco. I had the garden omelet with the potatoes and a biscuit. The omelet was perfectly cooked and the biscuit was delicious, much more of a "southern biscuit" than the ones served at Flying Biscuit across the street.
The only down side was the wait. We ended up waiting 45 mins but it was worth it.

This is what a breakfast joint should be. It's nestled in that hopping little intersection of McLendon & Clifton, across the street from the evil empire that is Flying Biscuit. There are a few shops as well as the Fellini's/La Fonda combo in the area as well. I've been there a handful of times and I've never left disappointed (or hungry). The food is inexpensive and the portions are HUMONGOUS. It's almost too cheap for the amount of food you get. It is hard to make a really stand out breakfast but Gato does without fail!
The atmosphere is what I call "comfortable emo-punk." The staff is tattooed and pierced, and has a very down-to-earth attitude. Don't let this leave you confused. When you walk into a place like the Majestic, you aren't sure when the last time any of the employees showered. This isn't the case with the staff at Gato Bizco. The customers come from all walks of life (sans the street folk that frequent places like Majestic) and the staff never makes you feel out of place. The decor is as comforting as the food; there are a handful of booths and a bar that seats about eight people.
If you go on a weekend, you'll have a little bit of a wait - usually b/w 10-20 minutes, but don't let that deter you. You can sit outside and they will gladly bring you the beverage of your choice. The wait is usually longer across the street (for some odd reason); and though the menus are far from identical, I just can't see why the Biscuit gets such a crowd.
The fare here includes traditional American breakfast grub, basic tex-mex fare, and an assortment of sandwiches and lunchables. The biscuits are fresh every day and boy are they freakin tasty! Each one is fluffly, fresh, and crumbles in just the right way. I'm pretty sure they are made offsite. The eggs are amazing. Whether you order the omelet, a breakfast sandwich, or the Huevos Rancheros (OOOH MAN ARE THEY TASTY), you will not be disappointed. The eggs always seem to come out fluffy and light. When you add the aforementioned eggs (any style), cheese, and/or meat to a biscuit, you end up with one of the best breakfast sandwiches you'll find. Be careful with the burritos - they are massively huge and massively tasty. (massively tasty - is that even an appropriate phrase???)
The menu is also chalk full of pancakes, tex-mex choices, and sandwich options. To be honest, I've never ordered any of them. It is not a due to a lack of desire; rather, I can never get myself to pass on the Huevos or a breakfast sandwich. I've seen many a children dive into the pancakes like the Hamburglar mows down a cheeseburger, only to stop half-way through as the immense deliciousness of their meal puts them into a wonderful food coma.
In fact - that's what this place is - one big food coma. Caveat emptor!

We love Gato Bizco! It's a cozy, friendly little breakfast (and lunch) place in our neighborhood that's perfect for quick and easy weekend breakfasts/brunches. (I think better, faster and friendlier than TFB across the street.)
Most menu items are scrumptious, and the staff is very accommodating to unusual requests. As the owner has said, if they've got the ingredients, they'll make whatever you want however you want it. This sentiment is very refreshing, given the number restaurants who seem to cater to their cooks rather than their clientele.
Gato Bizco will continue to be our weekend place of choice. My only wish is that there were larger tables to accommodate larger parties - I want to bring everyone I know here!
Looking forward to trying the lunch menu.

The BF and I are on a mission to try new restaurants in town instead of sticking to the old standards. So, of course, I turned to our trusty Yelpers to find a new place for Brunch this morning.
Intrigued by the name, and the fact that I must have seen the sign a million times and never realized that it was a restaurant, I arbitrarily decided that Gato Bizco would be our first endeavor. The BF didn't even ask where were going until we were almost there. Ah, adventurous Foodie spirit!
We had to wait about 15 minutes, but it was fun standing outside staring down the line waiting at Flying Biscuit.
We were seated at the counter. Bonus! I was pretty set on ordering my standard biscuit, soysage, and side of potatoes, but while waiting to order, I saw two breakfast sandwiches come out for a couple of diners at the counter and knew that's what I had to have. It's like an omelet with your choice of meat inside. I had them add mushrooms and biscuit as my choice of bread. What a wonderful decision! The thing was the size of my head and so good I ate the whole thing.
I really liked the feel of the place. Very low key, wait staff was attentive but not in your face, fun catty decor, good coffee. It was also like having breakfast theatre watching the cook serve up the plates.
Trying new things turned out well. I might just do it again.

Why-oh-why would anyone go to TFB when there is this wonderful little (literally) place across the road.
I ordered;
- Huevos Rancheros (I don't usually like beans but OMG this was so good!)
- a biscuit (so lovely and fluffy and tasty and yummie!)
- 2 pancakes (had to bring 'em home b'cos my eyes are bigger than my belly)
The owner was very sweet and the servers really nice and polite. I'd give it 5 but I came home smelling like I'd been rolling around on top of the grill plate!
This place is DEFINITELY going into my regular breakfast/brunch rotation. While the atmosphere might scare the tourists (and probably some locals), isn't that a good thing when all you want is to eat your yummy eggs in peace? Another bonus is you get to watch the hordes lined up in front of the Flying Biscuit and laugh, since you'll get the same biscuity goodness without the hellacious wait!
We went at about 10:30 on a Saturday, and we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a seat. My boyfriend and I both had omelettes--his was the Felix (with ham and cheese and a few veggies), and mine was the garden (with peppers, onions, tomatoes, cheese, and cilantro). Both were perfectly cooked and very fresh-tasting, and they didn't skimp on the fillings. Let me put it this way--my dad's omelettes are my benchmark for perfection, and this is the closest I've found to that mark.
We also split some Paris Texas Toast, which was good but fairly standard. The biscuits were AWESOME, since they were sliced and then thrown on the griddle with butter. The beans were good, but I didn't care for the taters--I just really like my breakfast potatoes to be crunchy, and these weren't. Coffee was strong and refilled frequently. Service was friendly and fast.
Can't wait to go back!

How come I've never heard of this place? Why haven't any of my friends ever so much as uttered it's name in passing? During all the times I've eaten at the Flying Biscuit, how come I've never looked out the windows and across the street and seen Gato Bizco? I don't know, but that's really too bad. I would trade a breakfast at Radial any day for one over at Gato Bizco.
A row of approximately eight booths line one wall, and then you have counter seating in the middle with the cook stations against the other wall. It's an awesomely small, dark space that seems to feel like everyone who comes in is just waking up for the day. That doesn't mean it doesn't ever get busy. However, I think you can avoid anything near the wait you'll find across the street.
We sat at the counter, right in front of the flat top skillet where they cook/prepare nearly all of the food. If you ever get the chance, sit here because you're in for a show. Cooking is an art, and blah blah blah all that. What I find masterful and great are the line cooks who can prepare six or seven orders at once and keep going, ultimately multi-tasking better than any automaton could.
Some people can't handle one pan in their kitchen - try four pans with omlettes going, a flat skillet in the middle with various toast, biscuits, sausages - you name it, all of it cooking with different start and stop times, and then coordinating their plating schedules. It's always a great scene to watch. As I sat there eating my delicious omlette, with buttered biscuits (which actually rival the ones as the Flying B), and cup of coffee, I wished to myself that more orders would come in - just so the show could continue.
I'm not sure if this is a regular thing. Maybe they have two people working the station sometimes. Maybe the person usually isn't so great at cooking seven orders at once. Who knows? I just know that my girlfriend and I both agreed that it was an awesomely good spot to observe the slinging hash.
The food? It's on par with most of the better brunch spots in Atlanta. The atmosphere is more quiet, more neighborhood cafe, and less full blown chain-restaurant. It's good here and should definitely hold a spot in your rotation of regular breakfast stops.

The review below say it all. This place is the best brunch/breakfast place in Candler Park, and yes even to me it beats the Flying Biscuit ). My boyfriend and I go there at least two Saturdays or Sundays out of the month. I do recommend arriving before noon because It gets busier after that and if it's cold you'll have to wait outside (the restaurant is really tiny). It is worth the wait. The staff is fast and friendly. You'll see what I'm talking about after you see the blonde girl OWN the grill (she's the only one who cooks). Their music selection is just right very folksy. The omelets are HUGE and they're not selfish with their ingredients. My favorite dish is the Huevos Rancheros they are perfectly cooked and the beans oh the beans! lots and lots of flavor in this dish but of course don't forget to try the sweet potato pancakes and bring someone to share them with.

When you are sitting outside the Flying Biscuit, waiting for a seat and wondering why you are waiting so long to eat, just look across the street.
Yes, there is a brunch place across from the Biscuit- it's called Gato Bizco Cafe. Go there.
It has all your brunch needs, including a vegan breakfast of tofu and sauteed veggies (ask for no cheese), much like the place across the street you were waiting for. They have that along with your usual breakfast/brunch staples that are always crowd pleaser's.
But they also serve lunch, which is mostly made up of burritos, tacos, quesadillas, etc.
I would definitely recommend this place if you are hungry and not willing to wait to eat delicious food as soon as possible.

We are huge fans of this place!!! My partner and I both are southern boys, so any place where we can get biscuits and gravy is our kind of place. Not only do they have AMAZING biscuits, but the gravy is vegan (I had been eating it for years without knowing this, and was surprised when told---it is that good).
The inside is a little cramped for space, but I think this only adds to the charm. Very unpretentious and consistently great!

This is a great spot for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. We found it the first time from reviews on Yelp and were very pleased with the place. It does not open until 9:00 but there are people waiting outside for the doors to open. There is not much as far as seating goes, 5 booths and then there is counter service. So, if you don't mind sitting at the counter, then the wait is not too long. The server suggested several things from the menu as here favorites or best sellers, including the Huevos Rancheros with black beans, several omelettes, pancakes(regular and sweet potato) and the french toast. I opted for the Huevos Rancheros, and she was right, they were excellent. The portions are huge and the food is really fresh and really hot. We learned the second time we went that several of the menu items can be served as half portions. The server will let you know if you ask. I mainly saw customers eating the breakfast/brunch fare, but the menu includes non breakfast choices as well. You can watch the cook making all of your food to order, she is very methodical and does not seem to get flustered even if she is busy. The owner makes a point to stop and chat with the customers which is a nice touch. This is definitely a place worth trying. It is certainly on my radar when we are in Atlanta and looking for a good place to eat.

Being a restuarant drone for half my life I know what good service is. Gato Bizco's main draw for me is that good service. You can get eggs anywhere in this city, but can you get good service too? This place is small and quaint, and in my opinion just right. I had the pleasure of chatting with Patterson, the owner, who makes you feel at home and welcome. Watching Patterson in action I could tell that good service with a smile and a gracious thank you was standard for him. My food came out lightning fast (2 eggs with grits) and the biscuit was superb. I look forward to my next meal at Gato Bizco, they have made a fan out of me

I'm sorry, I really wanted to love this place. I even gave it two chances, but I think it is just ok.
The first visit, I tried the chicken and black bean tacos and a side of potatoes. The potatoes were typical breakfast potatoes, pan fried, kind of mushy and very flavorful. They were pretty good. Sadly, my chicken taco's were very salty and I could not finish them.
Since this place gets such high ranking with other Yelpers, I figured that I should give it another try. My theory was that I went wrong by not ordering breakfast food, so this time I ordered the eggs and grits plate, with a side of bacon. I was sad to hear that they do not poach eggs, so I ordered Sunny-side up. The eggs were good, but my grits were flavorless and didn't have as smooth of texture, as I like. This will sound so stupid, but they were just too "grit'y". Still, the grits were not that big of deal to me. It was the bacon that was disappointing. I like my bacon crisp and I was pleased to see that the bacon was not only crisp, but it was thick and crisp. The only problem was that it tasted like it had been cooked in bad oil. I know, bacon isn't cooked in oil...but I think this was cooked in oil. I guess I would describe my breakfast as not horrible, but definitely lackluster.
The funny thing is that despite my disappointment with the food, I really like this place. It is a very old time, divey, diner and has a lot of character. Like the others, I think the best seat in the house is at the bar. I am sure I will be back.

this is a damn good spot for a simple, yet delicious breakfast. a perfect hangover haven or a place to satisfy a gluttonous pancake craving bender (dont judge). the food is made literally feet (sometimes inches) away from the patrons so there is no fear of mucus in your food or dropped veggies ending up on your plate (unless they super creative and stealth in their movements).
i had the bizco omlette with added basil and it was delicious- a TAD onion-y for my taste, but still delicious. as a northerner, i really dont get what the fuss is about biscits, but the one the served was great- not homemade (but who cares- it was warm and flaky, y'all).
my friend feasted on an egg and toast sandwhich accompanied by grits- nary a complaint was had by him as his plate was completely clean.
the decor in this place has got to be mentioned as it is cat crazy- and while some of these photos of patrons' cats are "special needs" cats, for the most part, its totally endearing to see a place with such a local flavor.

When I'm too embarrassed to go to the Flying Biscuit two days in a row for brunch, I head to El Gato Bizco, which is right across the street. It's a tiny place with a couple of booths and stools at the counter.
The food is on the Tex Mex side. I like their breakfast sandwiches - the bacon is nice and crisp. What's great is that you can order single pancakes - you fill up pretty easily just on one. And these are some of the best pancakes in town. I've taken friends here, who vouch for the huevos and other similar dishes. A good place to recover from a hangover, both food-wise and ambiance wise (the dim natural light is a plus).
I like the grits ok, although the potatoes need some more seasoning.
Good people, good service. Check them out!

Friendly staff and cozy locale, but the food is not impressive. They cooked my omelette right in front of me, and I wish i would have been on the other side too. The eggs needed more seasoning as did the potatoes. real plain even thought they are trying to do the Mexicanish thing. would be good if they sauteed the taters with some onions and maybe even some tomatoes. A slice of Avocad would have completed the mexiwant feeling. will rpbably not go back. They do require a 10 buck minimun for credit cards and charge some fee for CC and Debit card use.

It is so easy to feel comfortable here. All of the ink added to the servers didn't remove any of their friendliness, a bit of a rarity in the area. The short order style cooking behind the counter is akin to a ballet on speed, but the dining area remains relaxed, quiet, somewhat dark, yet very warm and inviting. The menu is your basic array of breakfast staples, tex-mex, sandwiches and burgers. All are tasty and served from open to close. If you need a break from the big box chains, indie sellouts, boutique hipsterish attitude incubators, and hot scenes du jour - then come here. I wish my dad were still around, he would have loved this place.

Go and eat the Huevos Rancheros for breakfast. Too bad they're not open for dinner!
