Getting married is a stressful situation and it was up to me (since I'm a research freakazoid) to figure out the details. I somehow stumbled across Gatherings' website by searching for businesses that combine wedding ceremonies and receptions in a package and BOOM! their website came up! At first I thought it sounded too good to be true but we attended a complementary tasting and we were hooked from the moment we stepped foot inside Gatherings.
Samantha and Debbie were nothing but professional, friendly and helpful with all of our questions and concerns from beginning to end. As the date approached and the panic/paranoia was setting in, the e-mails to Samantha increased each week filled with every question known to man- I was sure she was annoyed with me and wanted to strangle me. What calmed my fears was the meeting we had with Samantha at Gatherings a couple of weeks prior to the wedding so we could synchronize a timeline with vendors as well as for the entire event it self. We even visited Lovers Point Park so we can have a visual of how our ceremony would go down. I left the meeting feeling like a boulder was lifted from my chest.
Our wedding came off without a hitch- all of our guests were blown away by the simplistic, yet elegant decor of the house, the non-traditional roving reception, (guests loved the fact that they weren't forced to sit next to anyone they didn't want to sit with), THE FOOD, and the service from all of the staff. We even had guests stalking the staff for more crab cakes! A good friend of ours even mentioned that the food was way better than the food at her wedding!
Everyone working that day went above and beyond our expectations and for that we are grateful to Gatherings for making our wedding day a memorable one.

My husband and I had our wedding at Gatherings in November of 2011. We absolutely loved working with Alicia, who made planning our entire wedding in 3 months much more enjoyable. Our ceremony at Lovers Point Park was set up beautifully and went off without a hitch. Back at Gatherings, the centerpieces I made looked wonderful along with the rest of the decorations. The food was incredible as was the service. Our bartender was friendly and kept the party well hydrated.
So why only 4 stars? First off, Alicia was not our "captain" the night of our event, so we had someone we never met (Samantha). Normally, I don't feel we need to meet our captain first, but I felt we were holding her hand throughout the night. I was not able to sit back and enjoy the night because I constantly needed to be telling her what was supposed to happen next and keep the timeline on track. Every time I got up to tell our captain to move onto the next thing, my food was cleaned up. I actually never got the chance to eat that night because of this.
Overall, we absolutely LOVED having out wedding at Gatherings. It was the perfect setting for our small 40 person wedding. I would not have wanted it anywhere else. But, if you are planning an even there, make sure the person helping you plan the event is your captain. Also, I recommend making the plates for the bride and groom look different so the servers know not to clean those plates up. -

A year after our wedding and I am finally getting around to reviewing this place! Gatherings is amazing! Debbie and Dean and their team have a real passion and love for event planning and catering and you can really see it in all the details.
They were very prompt with all emails and business transactions. My questions were always answered completely within a day or two. Whenever we were in town to do some other wedding things and we stopped by to say hi they were always welcoming and never made up feel like we got in their way or they had other things to do. We went into contract with them before we tasted their food and later went to a tasting. Oh my goodness was the food amazing! I knew there would not be any worries there!
They were able to provide us with the setup and take down of chairs and sound system at our ceremony venue of Lover's Point Park. They arrived on time and ready to work. They set up the chairs and sound system and even a table with water for our guests. That same attention to detail was also at our reception venue, the Victorian house. They ensured that every guest was comfortable and well fed! The food was outstanding and really was one of the highlights of the evening. Seriously, it's been a year and we are still hearing good things about how everyone loved the food! Debbie ensured that everything ran smoothly! Dean was working hard in the kitchen and it was quite fun to watch him and his team through the window.
There are so many great things I know I am forgetting to say, but I really am just overwhelmed with how amazing this place is! From the planning to the event to even the weeks after this place is wonderful and professional. Both my husband and I got to enjoy our reception because of the care and attention to detail that they gave to everything. -

Gatherings/Monterey Beach Weddings/Classic Catering is definitely the way to go for a stress free wedding experience! From the time that we stepped through the door for our visit we felt comfortable and at home with the location and staff. We also were married at Berwick Park, which made for the perfect location with a lot less traffic than some other options here locally. We did the package for the roaming reception and literally the only things we had to do were: invitations, booking the minister, programs, the cake, the limo, we booked DNA DJ (the only DJ allowed there, but Darion was great), and we bought the alcohol (no corkage fee, woohoo!). Alicia was our wedding coordinator and she did a great job keeping us up to date and planning out our meetings so that we were aware of how everything was going to go for the big day.
We were most concerned with the food and drinks and both were amazing here! We provided the alcohol and with providing it ourselves it was very affordable. The food was AMAZING! Everyone kept raving about how delicious everything was.
The venue is split with an indoor and heated outdoor space which was nice for people to roam around in. There is a very at home feel to everything, so everyone was relaxed and enjoying themselves the whole time. We were looking to have a smaller wedding (we had about 60-65 people) and this location was perfect for that size party (though I believe that it says they can accommodate up to 80).
We had the stress free wedding of our dreams and would recommend Gatherings to anyone! -

Wedding receptions usually conjure up images of big hotel banquet halls, screaming children running amok, drunk relatives, and that one "classy lady" who might have fooled around with the groom that will always show up with her boobs about to pop out of her dress. An event that is deeply personal and intimate ends up being executed in a very impersonal and cavernous location.
Not so with Gatherings, a Victorian era home and event space owned and operated by Dean and Debbie Young. They have come together to offer a location that can make you and your guests truly feel like you are at a family gathering as opposed to Hall B at the Hilton. They obviously put great effort into detail and it shows. All of the rooms and the back patio, with both covered and uncovered areas, make for a cozy setting.
My favorite detail is the window that was placed between the music room and the kitchen. It was great watching the staff preparing all of the wonderful food that was provided by Dean and Debbie's other business venture, Classic Catering. I'll discuss the food in a review of Classic Catering, but for now let me just say that the two businesses are a wonderful compliment to each other and made for what was my favorite wedding reception that I have attended. -

Between my brother breaking the piano bench mid-Stevie Wonder impression and my tipsy uncles making wisecracks with the bartender, my aunt's wedding reception will go down as one of our best family "gatherings" of all time.
This building is the perfect size to entertain a fairly small crowd. The decor is so homey and elegant that I felt like I was in a friend's home... maybe because the staff felt like friends. Classy, easy going, celebratory friends.
I saved the best for last: the food. The crab cakes blew my mind! I can't even begin to describe them because they are lost in a delicious haze.. I think there was a sauce involved?.. I must have more. Who's getting married?? -

We had our November wedding reception at Gathering's, what a find! At first we were planning a huge hotel wedding, I felt like I was a factory bride, this was not right for us. So, once we decided to downsize (60 guests) we found Gathering's. After talking to Debbie the owner and visiting the venue we knew this was THE PLACE.
This historic home in Pacific Grove is perfect for a fun, different "cocktail"type of reception. I say "cocktail" because it isn't your traditional sit down meal. At Gathering's your guests can "mingle and meet" while the, pleasant and tentative staff pass delicious appetizers and small dinner dishes. I was a little nervous how people would respond to this reception style, but I got nothing but compliments. Everyone enjoyed mingling and looking through the kitchen window.
The owners Debbie and Dean are so easy to work with, Debbie is the party planner, she helps with ideas, the menu and helping the party flow the night of. Together the couple turn out such a wonderful time for everyone. Heh, even my 5 year old nephew was able to "squeeze" his own mashed potatoes out of the pastry bag, that made his night.
I must mention, it rained the evening of our wedding. We also used them to set up the chairs at Lover's Point for the ceremony. A divine intervention, it stopped raining long enough for the ceremony. The guys in charge were wiping down chairs making them dry for our guests. After the ceremony we show up at Gatherings, as we think the rain has stopped Dean and the crew moved tables outside, this needed to happen one or two more times through the night and they did it with grace and not getting in the way, and a smile on their face.
I can go on and on about Gatherings, but all in all they made our wedding reception so smooth and worry free. This is a perfect place for a smaller wedding. You can even have other types of parties there too. I can't wait for our next party maybe we will have it there! -

We had our wedding and reception at Gatherings in September 2010 and it was absolutely wonderful! They are the best!
We were sold from the moment we met Debbie and visited the venue. It is the one place that looked the same, if not better, than the pictures/video on the website. They worked within our budget without skimping on anything.
Throughout the planning process Debbie and Mary Lisa were so easy to work with, very professional and incredibly helpful. They were there to help with recommendations and any questions this nervous bride had.
The food, atmosphere and staff were so impressive. Our guests still give us compliments about Gatherings.
When our photographer failed to show up an hour before the wedding, Debbie and Mary Lisa stepped in. They arranged a photography team for us within the hour and had them there by the time the bridal party arrived. They stepped in and saved the day. I cannot thank them enough for that.
We had about 40 guests at our event. I don't know if they can hold more than 45 or 50 if you want to have your ceremony there. I believe they can accommodate more for just a reception party.
We were able to have the intimate, romantic and classy wedding that we hoped for--all within our limited budget. Gatherings made that happen for us and we are extremely grateful we found them! -

I just had my wedding at Gatherings and I have to say that they are the best!!! So professional and meticulous. I should know because my husband and I are both professional chefs. They changed their menu to suit us, and they put up with a very picky bride. My guests could not stop raving about the service and the food. Debbie and Mary Lisa are a joy to work with. We also went with their recommendations for bakery (Bechler) and hair (Rosie and Shinbi) and everything was amazing. From the setup at Berwick Park to the reception and cake, everything was just wonderful. The location is so fabulous and intimate and the wedding and reception was casual and classy... just like me!!! Thanks Dean, Debbie, Mary Lisa and all the staff at Gatherings for making our special day amazing!!!

Simply the best! Extremely professional and friendly staff. We are picky about details and major food snobs and Gatherings blew us away! Most importantly, our guests had the best night and can't stop talking about the crab cakes and short ribs and the amazing service and how beautiful and intimate Gatherings. We live 3 hours away and went with their recommendations for bakery (Belcher) and officiate and they took care of the rest! They saved me from being a Bridezilla because everything was so easy and classy. I can't find anything to complain about. Gatherings is a beautiful venue and Classic Catering is 5 star food and the staff are top notch! We had 75 people and they are still talking about the best wedding they've ever attended! They loved the cocktail style reception provided at Gatherings. I would do it all over again!

I had the honor of having the help of Gatherings and their staff for both my wedding ceremony and reception. I planned this all from 7 hours away, in Hollywood where I live (My husband is from Monterey). My guests can't stop talking about what an awesome time they had, the food being awesome and the presentation and staff is outstanding on your special night. I highly recommend them!! My wedding, even planned at a distance, was seamless, stress-free, and turned out to be better than I had even imaged! Thanks everyone again at Gatherings for a memory I will never forget!

Awesome! We chose Monterey Beach Weddings / Gatherings for our wedding. The ceremony on the beach went great. The reception at Gatherings was truly classy, elegant, and so much fun. The entire staff were so helpful and professional. The food was amazing. My favorites were the duck breast with a red wine sauce and the pork tenderloin with an apple brandy sauce. All of our guest loved Gatherings. I loved the personal attention my wife and I received from our wedding planner, Samantha. She was a pro. I will totally recommend Gatherings to my friends and family in the future.

We had our rehearsal dinner at Gatherings early March 2011. The brides father mentioned Gatherings as an idea because he had attended successful events there. I did all of the research and planing on line and visited the venue to make sure it would work for us. I had my doubts because it was not a sit down dinner. As it turned out, guests were able to mingle and had the opportunity to meet everybody. The flow made it easy to meet and visit with everyone at the event. At the wedding, everybody knew each other and it was one big happy family. There were places to sit, but people would sit a bit them wonder around inside and outside. The food was presented beautifully and everything was delicious. The staff was warm and friendly which set the tone for the entire evening.
