now this place is about as straight forward as it gets for italian, which seems impossible to find in this town. every italian joint out there tries to overwhelm you with their rhetorically high brow items, and nail you with inflated monetary gains, just for being italian esp. in north beach.

this place reminds me of a blue collar spot you would see if you stepped out into brooklyn on the random and hit the local yokel stomping ground.

a) first thing right off the bat, this place is affordable, and a GREAT bang for the buck
b) they make their own parmesean, no cardboard or kraft singles here
c) they serve a decent marinara, even thought they seem to microwave it if you ask for it as a stand alone
d) the have great mozzarella, fresh, affordable
e) their pizza is good, not great, but it is definitely fresh.
f) the gnocchi is good, but definitely overwhelmed with the amount of cheese they add
g) the bruschetta is a MUST GET here, especially since its one of their best items, and its the cheapest!
h) the crowd is definitely hit or miss. you will get the random goons, or the quiet family, you never know.
i) the waiting staff is luke warm, but definitely friendly
j) PLENTY of seating, no reservation needed.
k) parking at night is easy if its not friday or saturday
l) their signature lasagna dish is pretty good
m) they are open late! til round 11pm. excellent.
n) the dude abides!

Came here with Brent W. and another friend awhile back when I got off work one night.  This was about a month ago so I don't remember every minute little detail but I just know that we ordered a TON of food to go.

I ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce and for an additional $1.50 it gives you the choice to add meatballs.  With the meatballs my order came out to be about $14.  When we took our food home and tore the packaging open like vikings on the war path, my initial reaction was that of disappointment.  I stared at what looked like army noodles with ketchup and two meatballs the size of elephant testicles.

If there's one thing I learned after coming to Gaspare's, it's that looks can be deceiving.  The meat sauce complemented the noodles just right and tasted like "mom's home cooking."  When I first saw the meatballs I said aloud, "what?!  Two meatballs for 75 cents a pop?  What a jip!"  Not only was the size of the meatballs misleading but they were actually GOOD.  It sure as hell beats the meatballs from North Beach Pizza which tastes like they have chlorine in it.  Needless to say, I was FULL when I finished and a food induced coma knocked me out.

I think it's safe to say that I will be going back.

I adore Gaspare's and I adore Gaspare himself. This is one of my favorite spots. Gaspare is welcoming and kind, like the Sicilian uncle I wish I had. It has that East Coast kitsch-feel, and the thin crust pizza is great. Try the calzone with pepperoni and bell peppers - I think it's called Marcello's calzone. I used to love the gnocchi and pastas, but the kitchen staff has changed so I can't vouch for them anymore. Warning about the house salad: garlic galore, bring some gum for afterward.

What's not to love about a warm, cozy joint with juke boxes on the table, Sicilian table wine and solid Italian food? I heart Gaspare's.

Tried and true.
Not the best, not the worst.
What more can I say?
Well... a few things, of course...
A very decent house salad. Palatable pizza. Filling pasta. Quaffable house wine.
Friendly service, Close parking. Late(ish) hours.
We've got a winner.

Want a last night dinner? Here is once place thats close pretty late. I was expecting some generic sloppy Italian restaurant in this area, but once you taste their food, this place definitly hit the spot of I want to come back agian.

My friends and I ordered the pasta dish and the portion was perfect. Wasn't too meagrer, wasn't too "I want to passout right now." Though I do have to say, they could have lower the price a little or toss in a side of green. The half-n-half ravioli & spaghetti with meat sauce was done perfectly.

Sorry, I didnt have the pizza. I didnt want to sleep with a stomach full of cheese.

Oh whatever that drink was called.. back of the menu, first one on the upper left side, was pretty good. Go try it out.

Ciao bello! Ciao bella! Come stai!

Come on in to this wonderful Italian eatery that will give Giorgio's a run for its money when it comes to authentic NY style eateries.

Great home-style pizza (not quite NY), delicious pasta dishes, wonderful minestrone soup (those of you who know me know that I lurv me some good minestrone!). I like the quiet, dimly-lit ambiance, the family-style booths and tables, and the simple yet effective table adornments- parmesan, salt, pepper. No fuss, no muss, just good ol' Italian food.

Buon gusto!

Walking in the doors you are immediately met with the strong scent of all things Italian. good strong garlic, basil, cheeses, fresh ingredients...

Grab a beer (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) relax and unwind...

Select a song from the table side juke box (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Three songs for a quarter!

Now grab that menu and order yourself a tasty pizza. Not just any pizza but a Gaspare's Special (http://www.yelp.com/bi...). Topped with Fresh Sliced Tomatoes, Roast bell peppers, Mozzarella & feta cheese and the tomato sauce! Love that sauce.
Next order some of their Spaghetti with Meat sauce( http://www.yelp.com/bi...)!! You will be glad you did! I took the spaghetti and topped my pizza with it and made like a sammich it was sooo delish!
The atmosphere here is soo laid back and enjoyable. There never seems to be a rush for anything. All food arrives just when you think it will. Chianti bottles hang from the ceiling as decoration, old pictures of San Francisco neighborhoods adorn the walls. Really like this place!
Gotta love the Outer Richmond!

I wouldn't say this is the most desirable place to get pizza or Italian food for that matter unless you have lower expectations for your Italian food and are just looking for a pleasant place to mingle with your friends.

This should not be your number one choice for pizza in the city.  My requirements for pizza is different.  Think NYC style or maybe the Chicago Deep Dish.  The pizza here was unrewarding and didn't feel like quality.

What I do like about here is the atmosphere that actually encourages me to really want to experience the real thing in Italy.

Don't expect top notch food or anything like that or even service.  Go here for the lively feeling inside.  The service I would have to say was so-so.  It took a while to get a refill on my coffee, but who orders coffee with their pasta in the evening hours?  I do!

The lasagna was so-so.  And the antipasto salad I would highly not recommend.  It just didn't taste as fresh enough.

So the three star review is because I didn't have a terrible time in there and I was in the outer richmond so I am happy as that.  If I had to drive out to friggin downtown to get this kind of food, I would have felt bummed out.

It's your pick. If you're in the neighborhood and with a couple of friends, do make your way in here if you're in that Italian mood.  But if you're looking for the quality of food only, I really liked Ernesto's better I have to say.  But I do think that the service at Gaspare's is a little more down-to-earth.

I've been going to Gaspare's when it was called Vince's way back in the 1970's.  I loved their pizza then and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their pizza now!!!  My favorite is Bruce's Special [#21].  Whenever I order it, it's always delicious and cooked to perfection!!!  It's the only pizza I get.  For dessert I would say Gaspare's has the best spumoni.  It's the real spumoni not that processed "cake style" ice cream that I dislike immensely!

So, if you're going to Gaspare's for the first time, get Bruce's Special and have their spumoni for dessert.

The service is very attentive as well!!!

YOU WILL LEAVE A VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMER!!!!!!

I think I've finally figured out the secret to all these restaurants along Outer Geary--it's the density, stupid.  The typical eatery out here has (by city standards) ample space, but a car-choked street that pedestrians aren't thrilled about looking out on.  Hence the propensity for dark, cavernous, and oft-exotic interiors.  It's almost like what the suburbs could be if they turned the malls inside out, replaced the chains with quirky local owners, and magically back-dated some of the architecture (because there's definitely a mid-century kitsch driving the vibe out here as well--case in point, the rather half-hearted jukeboxes at Gaspare's tables).

But you probably came here for the pizza, not an over-analysis of the neighborhood streetscape.  And on that count Gaspare's comes very close to Milano's-esque heights of deliciousness...only to screw it up with an overly thin, overly soft crust that instantly collapses when you pick it up, leaving a heap of toppings on your plate (in my case, the hot, garlicky salami and linguica of the Bruce's Special).  Look, if you're going to make it thin, make it *crispy*--or better yet, just take the obviously excellent dough you already have and ease up on the rolling pin.

My friend lives down the block from this place, so we picked up a pizza one night before going out.  The place iteself is relatively small, so if you have a larger group, I think it'd be better to just take it our and enjoy in the comfort of your own place.  If there are only a few of you, though, the ambiance here can't be beat!  It's a great homestlye italian place with an incredibly cozy interior; i got here a bit before our pizza was ready and I was so cozy I almost took a nap!
The pizza is great!  I'm not usually a fan of thin crusts, but this crust had something special.  It was a great homestyle crust and the toppings and sauce weren't overbearing at all; it had a great ratio, which for me, is the key to a great thin crust pizza.
Eat-in or take-out, you should definitely stop by Gaspare's if you're in area and have a hankering for pizza!

Horrible.  Tasteless food and overpriced for what they served.  It wasn't only me that doesn't satisfied.  Everyone on the table wasn't happy with the dish they ordered.  Will never go again.  I have no idea why this place got 4 stars.

I wake up at night and crave this pizza. Specifically the Bruce's Special. I'm not a pizza fan generally. This stuff is perfection. My crust was crispy, because I ate mine at the restaurant, and it was perfect every bite, and now I dream, hauntingly, lustfully about the perfect slice...

Jaw droppingly good!

Love, love, love the thin crust pizza (esp. ground salami and olive).

And not to be a weirdo but the ice they serve in their beverages is AWESOME. It's that flaky, crushed ice, sorta nugget-like made from an Ice-o-Matic. Yummy!

Plus the service is solidly consistent.

this place makes a very very good cheese pizza.
and that's essential.  its the foundation of a great pizza place.
i mean, if you can't get the cheesyness, crust texture, and sauce-to-grease ratio down, you're doomed.

but this place knows how to make a pizza.

all the other pizza ive had out here pales in comparison.

i urge you to compare the taste and enjoyability of gaspare's versus the grease trap, crap pizza shop competition in your neighborhood.

worth spending the extra buck or two because they do not f-around.

Went here for first time after such an enjoyable experience at the other Gaspare's in San Rafael.... http://www.yelp.com/bi...

The place is very dark and you enter through front door off Geary and push through curtains. Seated and ordered, I opted for the Chicken Piccata (14.75), small thin pieces of chicken with lemon and capers and out of a choice of having Spaghetti or Vegetables, I chose veggies. I also asked for the house white wine, which was very good. The food came within ten minutes as the place started to fill up quickly, there also being a large group already there. My chicken was very good, tasty and the veggies were VERY tasty...  I love garlic!!! The bread served was not fresh and felt like it was heated quickly in the microwave too long, as it became very tough to break apart and eat after cooling, but the meon sauce on my chicken was so good, I braved breaking my teeth on that bread to mop up as much of that sauce as I could!

Try out the restrooms, located waaaay to the back, to the right of the kitchen and UP the stairs! I haven't seen a bathroom that looked like this in decades, since I went to Napoli in the mid-80s or Spain in the late 70s!! WARNING: If you want to go to the restrooms and you're OVER 5'9", do NOT stand tall!! But you should know that already!!! Street parking only. Does not take AMEX.

Sunny: Finally had to try this place out after my best friend recommended that I go. This place is really close to my home and after living at my current place for 2 years I have finally decided to visit. This diner styled restaurant is really popular every evening. We had ordered a medium pizza to go, came to my home 2 blocks away and sadly, the thin crust pizza had cooled down. The pizza would be really great to have at the restaurant, fresh made and piping hot. I wouldn't recommend ordering pizza to go, but I would try eating there next time.

Nolan:
The gf and I order a pie to go to and eat while we watched a movie, it was definitely better then chain pizza, however I feel I know of better places to order from in north beach.  Would I go here again?  Ya, I think it is a decent restaurant and worth trying again, I would likely do the pesto pie and eat it at the restaurant next time.

Everything we had that night was great!  Their pasta looks plain, but once you taste it, it's delicious!  It's not a fancy place to be, but if you're looking for a hearty plate of pasta homestyle and pizza, this is the place to be.

When I was a little girl I remember going here with my mom, however this was during my "pizza toppings are gross and I'll only eat the crust" phase.  Since then the place hasn't changed much.  The interior is still charming, the family atmosphere is still there, and the food is pretty darn wonderful.

$5 Chianti, $5 salad (which is enough to split), and fantastic pizza; what's not to love?  We ordered the Bruce's special which was so freaking good I couldn't stop at my usual 2-piece's rule; be prepared with gum after all the garlic you will ingest.  They also still have the personal jukeboxes at the booths and the price for 3 songs (25 cents!) has not changed in 20 years.

Tip #1: Skip the homemade cheesecake, it's not that good.  Tip #2: This is not the place I would expect such great coffee from.  Tip #3: Come early, the place fills up fast.

We were looking for a new pizza place to try out in the city...we found Gaspare's on Yelp.  It's a great little place! We went on Friday night around 6 and it was packed, we waited about 15 minutes for a table.  Next time we will make reservations.  We had a nice booth with mini juke box, dropped a quarter and picked 3 songs to play...pretty cool!

Now to the good stuff...we ordered two pizza's one veggie and one cheese and olive (for the kids) both were absolutely delicious, nice thin crust and piping hot! The pizza was so hot I actually burned the inside roof of my mouth, it was well worth it! They also brought out nice french bread and butter after we ordered.  We finished most of the pizza and had a few slices to take home.

We really enjoyed the food and atmosphere...we will be back!

I must say this is one of the bestest pizza's Ive had in a long time.  Just went there tonight for dinner and had the Bruce's Special & Marcello U.O.P. pizzas and they were delicious.  The taste made my mouth water and the ooh so crispy crust was just that... I was first introduced to this place a few months ago and have been craving this delicous pizza each time I have a crappy pizza from another restaurant. I have to go back and try their pastas and entrees next time.

Got the Bruce's special, very tasty ground salami, good topping coverage, but the crust was under-cooked, or super soggy, either way, the best bite of the pizza was not its best part.  I would think that they would leave it in the oven longer for pizzas with more toppings.  I had the small, so i'm guessing its undercooked, dunno for larger sizes. Crust was crispy but otherwise bland.  Maybe it was an off night, and i also got some meatballs, they were good size, flavorful and fresh, but a little soft, it might be the meat is fatty, i tend to like leaner meats, but hey, meatballs are meatballs, you can't really go wrong! Doesn't have to be cloudy for a chance of Meatballs! haha

Great service and ambiance, and invites a second chance!

I do love Gaspare's and in my heart it is a 5 but my head tells me different.

Great pizza. Nice thin crust. Good sauce. Excellent cheese coverage. These pizzas are really meant for lighter toppings because the more oily options can compromise the crust.

Gaspare's itself is a quaint restaurant that feels quite cozy despite being fairly spacious. It's a very comfortable setting.

Aside from the pizza, they have quite an expansive menu with some good picks. I love that you can pretty much add a meatball to anything or just have one meatball a la carte on the side (and these are serious meatballs). Not every disk is outstanding but they all pass muster well enough to warrant a visit even when you don't feel like pizza.

In light of recent events, to talk about having a heart attack is probably in poor form.  As one who goes against the grain no matter what, I'm going to push on.

After an evening with King Tut, what better way to wind down than with pizza?  After FINALLY getting service out of the parking garage, I consulted Yelp for the best, brightest, and nearest pizza place.  Although I didn't recognize any of the reviewers, a solid 4-star rating sold me.

What makes this place great is the decor.  The jukeboxes in the booths throw it off a little bit, but the grapes and chianti bottles hanging from the ceiling make you feel like you're in Little Italy.  Or something like that.

We were STARVING, so we started with the mozzarella sticks.  Good, but not great.  And you only get 4, so be prepared to get more than one order if you're in a large group.  We then ordered the Pizza Margherita, which was...oily.  Sure, it said it had olive oil on it, but I didn't think it would be that much.  The crust wasn't as crispy as I'd like, and overall the pizza was quite garlicky (no worries, as my cats don't mind garlic breath).  The trek to the bathroom was also rather treacherous- they only have one each for men & women.  I didn't feel like waiting for the ladies' room, so I took over the mens' (and it was very clean, in case you were wondering).

You can't beat $5 for a large glass of Chianti, and I would like to try another kind of pizza later.  We'll see.

Great old-style pizza place, nothing fancy, just great pizza and a welcoming atmosphere - as cheerful and traditional as the red checkered tablecloths.

My friend Denise L. has been telling me about the place forever, and we finally had a chance to go together a couple of weeks ago.  We shared one pizza with 1/2 Vegetarian Special, and 1/2 Sausage & Mushrooms.  It was delicious, made with a thin crust, nice sauce, and a generous portion of toppings.  I surprised myself by eating at least 3 slices (it could have been 4!  I'll never tell!) which you can easily do, due to the thinness of the crust.

The place was filled with family and regulars, with every table full by about 6:30pm.  My guess is that it stays that way all evening.  They also do take-out, which I will certainly do one of these days.   So glad to have a new go-to basic pizza place - not an easy find in this city.

Somehow I am always the designated hitter for finding new restaurants whenever I am visiting my son in SF. Well this time I have been out of work for a while, so I needed to find something a bit more affordable than the usual Russian Hill... or North Beach fare.
So Yelped the Richmond and found Gaspare's. Certainly a bit cheaper, and maybe not quite up to the standards of North Beach (ie Steps of Rome or the Contadina) but definitely worth the trip.
Being from OC, the parking thing is always a bit of a nightmare, but it is a little easier in the Richmond... only took about 10 minutes of driving around looking for a spot.
The food: we were all in a pasta mood, so no pizza at our table. But definitely enjoyed gnocchi alla bolognese, the lasagna, and tortellini. Also nabbed a bottle of chianti... at a decent price for a restaurant.
The service: no problems here. The service was very prompt. And the usual kicker... waiting for the check... not a prob at all.
The recommendation: my son and his friend plan on returning in the next few days to check out the pizza. Always a positive thing when you plan on heading back.
Hmmm... next time I am in town, I might head back and try the pizza also.
Cheers!

This place is unreliable!!!!! We made reservations for 12 people one week in advance only for them to call us 2 hours from our reservation time the night of to cancel! Apparently they had a reservation for a party of 30 an hour before our reservation time. Did they not think to tell us??? That is just shady. It doesn't matter if they have good or bad food at this point. They just suck. Don't bother making reservations with them.. apparently it doesn't mean a thing.

Gotta love this pizza!  I'd say I go out of my way to try most pizza places in this city, and I know what I like when it comes to pizza.  All the reviews are true:  it's super thin crust, it's greasy, it's very salty and very garlicky.  And all these things amount to a fantastic pizza!  I think it's great.

I always try the standard plain pizza when I go to places, and I could tell that this is the best option for Gaspares since the crust will stand no chance under the weight of most toppings.  WOW the pepperoni that i had the other night was outta this world....insane NY style (not that i know... i'm from denver bitch) and the crust was perfect. I've been goin to this place for a few years now and find it a little incositent but when ya hit it right.... look out.
To all those family guys and girls out there its great for that too so enjoi the italian gem of the ORD (thats outer richmond district to you)

No. 21 Bruno's Special Pizza (XLarge), an order of Pesto Pasta Spaghetti  and  a Dinner Salad for 3!   Yes, we confess!  We ate the whole pie along with the butter hard crusted bread with the Pesto Sauce Pasta! (and the salad)

My other bro heard about our recent visit so we have to go back again for more of the (sigh) same.  Contrary to Robert H.'s review, our pizza was more than devine and perhaps, Gaspare heard his plea?

Follow-up review: (I though only freaks used this option...)

A few weeks ago, my BF and I wanted to redo Valentine's dinner. So I called Gaspare's at 5pm to arrange a pick up after my shift at work, around 9. I arrived at 9:10 to pick up my medium margarita pizza + feta, only to have the chefs and owner not know what I was talking about. The woman I placed the order with remembered me because I had called in advance. The owner mentioned that next time I should call about 15-30 minutes ahead of time to avoid this situation. Look, I work in the food industry, too. A couple hours ahead isn't that much of a pain in the butt. I understand misplacing the order in 24 hours but not 4.

Anyway, I waited 10 minutes for the pizza, paid full price, and headed home to meet my man. Excited and hungry, we flung the box open only to have a $16 FETA cheese pizza. No basil or tomatoes! Lame.

The quality of the food is so dead-on, I will go back. I'm just a little irked that I got screwed only the second time around... sad face.

I just realized I hadn't written a review for Gaspare's yet... Is this because I just discovered it? No, no, no, I LOVE Gaspare's and constantly crave their food. I think I constantly forget about this place on Yelp because this place is just my go-to... I don't think when I oder from them, I just eat and love it... Very robotic like... That's what happens when pizza is placed in front of me!

I think one of the reasons why I love this place so much is because it reminds me of my childhood... It reminds of the delicious pizza I thought, and still do, was the best (hello New Yorker & Caprara's Pizzeria!!!). Though while attending USF and not knowing how to go to other neighborhoods, I would constantly crave good pizza... And lord knows Nizarios can only accomplish so much! So I decided to make a change.... No more Nizarios; it's edible, but it's not the pizza I was used to or loved!

With much soul and pizza searching, I stumbled upon this little gem in the Outer Richmond. I had always seen it in passing when I dated someone out yonder., but constantly brushed it off because I was generally drunk (pretty much for that entire wasted year!) and didn't understand the concept of eating out with said ex-boyfriend... So it was forgotten.

But then one night, sick of ordering pizza delivery from our other regular spots, my boyfriend and I decided to take a trek to the Outer Richmond for some delicious, yummy pizza! Possibly one of the best decisions of my life... And definitely the best pizza joint in the city!

I am now happy to say that I live a block away from this establishment... Now that's dedication!

Pizza is not worth eating if it doesn't taste good.  This pizza is worth eating.

We ordered a large Hawaiian for the three of us and an order of mozzarella sticks.  The mozzarella sticks were chewy, not stringy, had the right amount of batter, and were served alongside marinara sauce.  The sauce was very garlicky but very good.  Four come for the 7 dollar price tag.  We ordered a second order.

The pizza came and looked like something you just have to devour the moment it is placed in front of you.  I kept myself under control and politely waited my turn for a slice.  The cheese does not taste of the highest quality, but the dough is very good, as were the toppings.  The pizza is greasy.  Red pepper and parmesan come on each table, but the waitress happily brought out a cup of ranch when I asked.

The pizza is very thin so consider ordering one size larger than you normally would.

Their cheesecake is the most flavorful, most creamy NY style cheesecake I have ever had in my life.  I traveled to new york city at the advice of Food Network to try the best cheesecake in the country (according to them).  Gaspare's is better.  We inquired about it, and Gaspare's wife home makes it.  "We try to get her to make 3 a week" was what the waitress told us.  At $4.50 this is a good investment in your stomach.

Mama Mia, that's one %@$#-@$$ pizza!!!

The best in San Francisco, if not the entire Peninsula. Miss it like crazy since we moved from the city. Thin crust, divine tomato sauce, fresh toppings...it's all addictively good. Great homemade Italian sausage and lasagna as well, but the pizza....now that's the real deal. If you're craving some east coast style, this is your place.

What I would give right now for a big slice of Lorenzo's from South Philly...but Gaspare's certainly hits the spot in the meantime!

Gaspare's is home to my favorite pizza of all-time: Bruce's Special. Linguica, Salame, Mushrooms, Garlic, Olive Oil, Oregano, Mozzarella Cheese and Tomato Sauce.

It's got a great thin crust and every bite on this pie has so much flavor it brings new meaning to the word mouth-watering.  I can eat more slices of this pizza than any other pizza.  The only time I don't leave here satisfied is if I hadn't eaten enough pizza!

I've tried other entrees here and they are good, but honestly not memorable to bring me back here like Bruce's.  A must try.

This is my favorite restaurant in the Richmond.  Well priced, great atmosphere, excellent service.   Sit in a booth if you can, and enjoy the old school diner decor.  The short haired brunette waitress never fails to give us perfect service, she's cute and very conversational.  We love the staff of their restaurant, they're always extremely accommodating and happy to see us return.

The pizza is going to be on the greasy side, but it's delicious all the same. Greek style is a personal favorite, as well as Bruce's Special.
The desserts are excellent as well.  If you order coffee, expect it to be refilled immediately.

One drawback - They don't take reservations, and the wait can be on the longer side. It's well worth it, though!

This place has character. It has some old time ambiance. They even have juke box stations at every booth that features oldies from Frank Sinatra to Elvis and even Chubbie Checker. Gaspare's even has a... Gaspare! He's a nice Italian man that is very friendly to his customers. This place feels like Happy Days, just Italian style. I just wish I had more to say about the food.

I've been here twice now, and both times I'd have to say the pizza that everyone raves about was a bit on the oily side. Sure I'm not Italian, but I know a good pizza pie doesn't have a soggy, slightly oily middle. The Veal Marsala I had on my last visit wasn't quite appetizing. The sauce was a bit watery, but I know the sauce varies greatly dependent on recipe. The veal was tasteless, and a bit on the tough side. At least my BBBS little brother liked his tortellini. All in all a subpar meal in my opinion. But I'll say that the tiramisu saved it for me. Nothing like alcohol laced cake to save the day! Gasapre's charisma and charm also helps!

The rating I really want to give Gaspare's is 3.5 stars. Been several times now and I would say it is decent if you are the mood for more traditional Italian. But the reason I end up here typically is because of the convenience factor (it's close by), not because the food is really phenomenal. Plus I like the old school decor (booths lining either side of the restaurant), the fact that that it is family owned, and the friendly service.

As for the food, the pizza is pretty good, but definitely not my favorite. I've had the vegetarian plus pepperoni.  I liked it though I thought next time I might lay off that many veggies because the pizza seemed a little soggy for my taste.  Also tried the Hawaiian and honestly, don't think I would order again-- not that is was terrible, I just think they do better with more traditional pizzas.

The pasta is pretty good, particularly the meat sauce. I'm not really a fan of their marinara. My fiance likes their Italian sausage... I still need to try the meatballs. We usually order the special salad which isn't really that special but it's okay.

I should add that we've never had to wait for a table, even when we brought some out-of-towners and had a table of 5. I think we tend to go earlier so maybe that's why. But still, it is nice to know there is a decent option that you don't need reservations for. Like I said, convenience!
