7 reviews for Garibaldi's of Columbia
There's a fair number of decent restaurants in Columbia. A handful are very good. Out of those, if someone was visiting town and had time to just go to one restaurant, I would send them to Garibaldi's.
It's a really great Italian restaurant located in five-points. While I've never had a bad meal, I would recommend the Shrimp Risotto Cake for a first course, the Poached Pear Salad (has very tasty goat cheese fritter), Crispy whole Flounder for the main course, and finish with the fresh fruit almond basket.
As the other reviews can confirm flounder is the best bet. The wife claims they have the best cheesecake here outside of Chicago. Its an older location so therefore the quarters are kind of tight and parking is annoying (they do have valet) but the food is very good. The location is cool because after a nice meal you can walk to starbucks or around 5 points and walk off some of the rich meal or sit on the patio near saludas and people watch.
Five Stars for the Crispy Flounder alone. Very friendly, great service.
I was definitely impressed with this place.. I didn't realize that there would be fine dining in Columbia, SC.. It was a great evening.. I would go back..
Polenta.. delic
Probably one of the best restaurants in the little town that could. Fine dining atmosphere but not stuffy. Good seafood pasta and excellent wine list. Friendly staff and frequent locals. Can get crowded at times so call ahead.
In a food-challenged city like Columbia, Garibaldi's is a welcome break in the cycle of pain. This is a nice if old-school restaurant with a slightly predictable menu that is nonetheless well executed. You'll get big portions of pasta. The room is pretty nice and this is one of the better going-out-to-eat places in town. Very close to the University and the Statehouse.
I have been to Garibaldi's more times than I've visited Columbia, which is a lot, and it never fails me. The seafood is always the way to go here, although you won't be disappointed with anything you chose. Have the Garibaldi Salad, yum! It is a nice restaurant so go here to enjoy your meal, not rush through it... they aren't too picky about dress codes here, but it is always more enjoyable to feel fancy when you are eating at one of the fancier restaurants in our little unpolished gem of a town!
