I stayed at the Garfield Suites once and I was neither ecstatic nor horrified--hence the 3 star rating.  The hotel is accommodating but isn't luxurious by any means.  The lobby has a seating area if you are waiting for check-in or an airport shuttle.  Down the spiral steps you can find restrooms and vending machines.

The rooms are apartment size and come complete with a living room, dining room, bedroom, full kitchen and ample closet space.  The decor is old and bland--a lot of green.  The appliances are old but, on the plus side, if you like to cook the kitchen is stocked with dishes and cookware.  There is a dishwasher which makes clean up a breeze and is probably a godsend for housekeeping.

The internet is free and probably for good reason.  When I visited, there was no wireless and I had to keep my laptop plugged in at the desk.  Hopefully they have caught on and offer wireless now.

The staff is friendly especially the gentleman that works the daytime shift at the front desk.  He's very knowledgeable and will give you great recommendations if you ask for them.

The shuttle service helps if you are going somewhere local and saves you taxi money.  The shuttle operates anytime between 7am and 7pm which is great for people in town on business that work in the vicinity.  They don't really advertise this service so ask for it at the front desk.

I can't really comment on amenities like the pool, gym or room service because I didn't use them.  I did get take-out from Cafe Martin a couple of times (so much cheaper than room service) and it was good each time.  They brew Starbucks coffee in the morning which is great!  And for $2 you get unlimited refills if you eat breakfast as well.  The restaurant offers outdoor seating as well.

I'd stay here again if I found a great deal but probably wouldn't spend more than $99 per night.

I recently stayed here for a week while in town for work.

My experience was wonderful. It's was a great cheap find, centrally located, etc.

As soon as I checked in, they informed me that I was "upgraded" to a penthouse suite.  Oh my.  I new all of the rooms were suites, but this one was two stories, two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms.  I also had a HUGE private balcony downstairs and another shared one upstairs.

I only wish I didn't have to work so much and could have enjoyed the room more.

The staff was friendly and the restaurant downstairs is a good option -- open late and always serving drinks.

Downsides -- no wireless in the rooms and my water pressure was awful.

Garfield Suites Hotel was the most affordable choice for hotel on a recent business trip. Man, did I save my company some cheddar on my recent trip to Cincinnati. I'm sure they'll look favorably upon that and give it back to me in a bonus right? Oh wait, I'm not working for AIG!

The "G-Suites" was great for the amount of space I had: a kitchen, a small dining area to drop my stuff on just like when I'm at home, a desk to read emails I didn't respond to, two televisions, a couch I never sat on, a separate bedroom with a door I shut because open space freaks me out when I sleep, a bathroom, and two huge closets! Phew, did I get everything? Yes, the G-Suites is huge for your money! But of course, you get what you pay for, and it was nothing fancy. I don't even think there was Pay-Per-View or HBO. I watched WGN news when I missed Chicago...Tom Skilling? Miss you!!!

The front desk service was top notch. Unless I was doing my full-speed ahead icy Robo Cop stare, I always got a "good morning, sir" or "anything I can help you with today"? I took them up on that request a few times to call me a cab or for general info. Great service!

Since we were there on a Wednesday there was a FREE Happy Hour with food and drinks, which many people enjoyed. The Cafe Martin, connected to the hotel, is a French-themed small cafe. Service was good, they have a full espresso machine, I got a bagel and coffee so I can't tell you if their Chefery was any good! I don't know if it was the lure of a French-themed cafe but there was a whole cadre of Senegalese business people eating when I was there. I got to practice my best "Bonjour" on them! Impressive...

The Garfield Suites is on the north edge of downtown. Not as convenient as say, the Westin or Hilton, but there's a nice plaza with trees and lights abutted by a statue of Garfield himself right outside of the hotel. All in all, good for the economical traveler. If you work for AIG, break the bank elsewhere!

The Garfield Suites Hotel is a unique establishment located in the cutest little district on the corner of Main Street and Garfield Place. Outside of the hotel is a gorgeous courtyard with some statues and flowers.

I came here to babysit some little tykes in two of the adjoining penthouse suites on the top floor of the hotel. These suites were really nice. And by that I mean REALLY nice. Each of them had little kitchens with dishwasher and ovens. Then there was a living room complete with couches and a television with a DVD player. Each had stairs leading up to two bedrooms and a full bathroom upstairs.

I really enjoyed the balcony which faced east. You could see really far and it was really serene and calming to look out. Our balcony looked out over the library. There was also an overlook in the hallway that looked to the west over Music Hall and the Union Terminal.

The only downside was that one of the DVD players in one room wasn't working. As I was  babysitting movies were my secret weapon. I called the front desk and the guy came up but didn't ring the bell and couldn't be heard knocking over the noise of the kids. I called again and he offered to come back up but it was so late by that time that it was time to put the kids back again. Their service was slow when I asked them to come up and I waited so long!

Imagine if you walked into a Homewood Suites room from today in 20 years. Welcome to the Garfield Suites.

Decent price, but not good value for the money. Service is fine, but the quality of the rooms is extremely low. Greasy floors and surfaces, remote only goes down in channels and up in volume. Weak water pressure. Plastic coat hangers. Really disapointing overall.

Spend a little more and stay at one of the chains in the area.

In a hurry and unaware of Cincinnati proper, we chose the Garfield Suites after reading various reviews here and at other travel websites.  On the plane in from Austin, two other passengers from the area indicated we might be a teensy bit disappointed by our choice.  Buoyed by a confidence in the ratings, we told them that surely this place had to be the hit with the 3.5-4 stars it had been awarded.

If we weren't tipped off by the locals, we should have been by the seemingly endless series of hallways and stairways to reach the lobby from the parking garage.

At first, we were delighted by the appearance of the lobby, and I will say that the service was impeccable and gracious.  We even felt like were in the center of the excitement of the downtown area.  Everything was looking up...until we walked into the rooms.  They smelled.

Even so, I thought that the mustiness could be overcome, so I walked throughout the two bedrooms and living areas (these are converted apartments with full kitchens) and flung the windows and balcony doors open, but the fresh air offered little relief.

If you were looking for long term arrangements or had a large party on a limited budget, I think the Garfield offers a workable solution for the price.  The furniture is dated but not worn, and the rooms were at least tidy.

But at $109 per night, I decided I would rather pay more for nicer and smaller.  When I asked the manager about checking out and explained the smell, he was very nice and offered to show me two other places, but each room was no better than the first.

So, out we checked and found refuge in the Embassy Suites "across the river" in Covington, Kentucky per our fellow passengers' recommendations.  Look for that review, too!

We found this place through travelocity, and thought it was a pretty good deal. One of the most appealing things about the place were the very spacious rooms - rooms are divided up so you have a living space, a dining space, a kitchen, a bathroom, and potentially one to two bedrooms. The rooms are sparse, but clean. Ours smelled of cigarette smoke (despite being a nonsmoking room), but the smell dissipated after we aired it out. The showers are clean and have great water pressure, there is a decent size TV in the main area, and the beds are comfortable. The downsides? Only one TV in the whole room (most places now put one in the main room and one in the bed rooms), the cigarette smoke smell, and the unattractive decor.
The management is very nice, and even had an appreciation night while we were there - with free drinks! The concierge is helpful, and it is nice having several restaurants attached to the hotel.
If you're looking for a good deal while in Cincy, this is definitely a place to consider.
