I used to shop at The Gap years ago .....
but then you lost your way The Gap used to have clothes that stood out from the pack, and didn't look like every other department stores stuff, but what I saw this morning makes me want to go back when I have more time to look at your stuff
so this morning we needed a pair of slacks for my partner for work, and we didn't have a Lotta time to look before hand so we hit a couple places, and The Gap was the only place to have slacks in the right size, but damn man $55.00 the same slacks were $25-30 most other places we looked, of course they were out of the size we needed so I had no choice but to pay the price as we were out of time to try any other places
and I had to yell at the fucking homeless bastard, that was trying on like 5 or 6 different types of cologne, you only need to try one not all 6, and yes you the person working there could of said something to the man your self
I am very rarely seen actually shopping in a brand-name clothing store (apart from browsing, that is). I must concede, though, that this particular Gap far exceeded my expectations (which, admittedly, were low to begin with).
While wandering around downtown, I stumbled upon this place, and wanted to get some thermal wear and some pairs of socks. The first thing I saw was along the lines of: "Thermals - Only $5 w/purchase of jeans". The catch in this, of course, is: "w/purchase of jeans". After flipping over the price tag of a perfectly normal looking pair of girls' jeans, I saw the cost: $54.00. I had to do a double-take to make sure I was reading properly. The thermal shirts, without a jeans purchase, cost ~$19.99 each. After a few rounds of seeing prices far beyond what I normally spend on a clothing item, I figured I might as well try my luck and check out the baby and kids' sections. I am so glad I did, rather than throw in the towel and leave. Here's what I ended up buying:
* Business/casual socks: bought 3 pairs, ranging from $0.73-$1.49 each. Outlandish, clown-like stripes and colors, but its fun having a change from the conventional black, gray, and brown colors. Very comfy socks, and long, too.
Caribou-marked socks (2-pair): $4.49 (the decorations make this worth it for me). Very comfy as well, may work well with athletic shoes, too.
Plaid/Office Shirts: bought 5 such shirts, ranging from $3.73-$5.98 each. Includes 2 office shirts, one large polo shirt for a tall relative, one plaid shirt for my 1-year-old nephew, and a thermal shirt. For the variety and quality of these shirts, the prices are unbeatable.
Total # items: 9 (4 pairs socks, 5 shirts)
Total Discount: $10.93 (over 25% of total)
Grand Total (after tax applies): $35.96
Price per item: ~$4.00
Apparently, this is a clearance time at Gap, as they are working hard to make room for the Christmas seasonal items. Still, I hardly expected to score such great deals at a place like Gap, where so many items are quite expensive. The items I bought were of great quality, too.
Customer service was reasonably friendly, too.
Usually, clothes shopping bores me, and I don't have a Gap card, but I may be back sometime to this store. If one gets past the fact that they have many outrageous prices on their clothing, there's always a hidden treasure somewhere in the mix.
I shop here because the loungewear is so soft!!!! Last time, I ended up buying several more items than I was counting on. Edward upsold me and I liked it.
This Gap sure is fancy looking, and they seem to carry the full selection you can find online, but in my experience the men's sales rack is a big disappointment. I came in recently and did manage to find a nice oxford in my size for $12, but they didn't have anything else I was looking for.
The prices they charge are outrageous, considering the clothes are made for a pittance in a variety of low-wage countries in Southeast Asia. Hell, they don't even sew tags on their garments anymore--they print the washing instructions on the fabric. Just try reading that shiz after you've washed your shirt a couple dozen times. And $55 for a pair of jeans? Please. It's the Gap, not Armani.
Wait for a sale before coming here, otherwise you're getting jacked. Or check their clearance section online, where there is a much better selection available.
A place in which the sales staff thinks they are clearly superior to the general public. Is it a talent in folding? Is it a talent in cashiering? Is it talent wearing those "smart" little headphones? Hmmmmmmmmm.
Mens store-
Poor sales rack selection at this location. Regular clothes are standard Gap supply, whatever they've got they've got it all. But I used to buy a lot at the Gap when I lived in Portland. The one in the Pioneer Place mall there had a great selection, I always found stuff at a great price. I never find anything at the downtown Seattle one. *tear*
Personally, I don't really care for "The Gap" but they do have fairly decent children's clothes.
It's a fairly large store with different levels for each type of fashion, a floor for children, one for women and another for men. The clothes tend to be a tad pricey but there are huge sales racks to rummage through. And they really do have decent styles for children. I'm not forced to dress my child in some stupid TV character, she can actually wear something flattering and that I don't despise.
But it is still The Gap, so...
Though I certainly would like to pay much less, I really do like this store - easy to find what you need, great quality manufactured items that will last forever if well cared for (or even folks who beat up their clothing as much as I do will still find long life in these clothes).
I especially love their womens t-shirts; FINALLY! a store that has t-shirts that don't creep up over my belly button when I reach over my head! I have an very long torso for my height, (I'm petite from the waist down and tall from waist up (natural waist to underarm), but at only 5'5" long sleeve shirts in the tall department that are long enough in the torso, (past the belly) but are usually 2 or 3 inches past my fingertips in the sleeves. Bravo, GAP! They are my only t-shirt supplier!
I usually shop the seasonal sales or clearance racks and find the items I wanted with the prices I like! GAP carries classic styles to trendy updates of classic favorites, items are well made, flattering cuts, a nice variety of sizes: talls reg and petites, and the staff are helpful and friendly! I recommend this store!
I am rating THIS location of the Gap, not the Gap corporation as a whole, not their policies or absurd ad campaigns. I give this location five stars for two reasons:
1) their employees still look like residents of Seattle. Totally funky.
and most of all:
2) they hired a transgendered person. (I edited this because when I first wrote it I put 'transvestite,' even though that really didn't sound right, but it was really late and I was really tired, and the only trans- words I could think of were transvestite and transsexual and Transamerica, and I didn't think this person was a transsexual, so...anyway, duh.) I don't know if it was from the personnel at this particular store or maybe Gap corporate thought it would be good for their Seattle image, but I think it's really great that a huge corporation like Gap would extend employment to people who are, in many instances, perceived as outsiders or estranged or even freaks. I think it's really exemplary of them to show support for all people by hiring all sorts of people, to say, 'Hey, you're okay with us, and we're okay with everyone else knowing it, too!'
Now, whether Gap as a whole shows support for people by using sweat shops and child labor, I dunno.
Besides that, what, I like their clothes well enough. They tend to be largely uninspired and sometimes unforgivably boring, but hey, that's what basics are, and that's why you go to Gap, isn't it?
Nothing really exciting about The Gap. We all know what it is.
Don't love it. Don't hate it.
I did get a really awesome belt here once. Haven't been able to find it in a while. Wonder what happened to that belt....
Uh...mister who rang me up yesterday? If I said no to a Gap card the first time, I'm not going to say yes the next 15 times. Sorry.
Other than that guy it's a pretty nice Gap.
Besides the food, another thing I miss about New York is the shopping. There is nothing like walking in a different neighborhoods all over the city and finding amazing shopping. Whether you are in Soho, the Village, Madison Avenue, 5th Avenue, so and so forth. You will not get tired of the endless shops.
I like the Gap because it is a classic store that has anything you can want. Jeans, T's, simple dresses and great pajamas. When I want something cottony and soft, I get it at the GAP. It's also very affordable and the best time to go is on a Monday morning. The store is put back together after the weekend stampede. They are also very helpful without being pushy.
Another good thing about this place is that my kids can come here and walk around and look at for they want to buy. For two boys to want to pick out their own stuff makes my job a lot easier. Sometimes I wish I had a girl, so I can say, "No you can't get the mini-skirt".
I just wish we had Gaps like they have Starbucks on every corner. In New York there were a bunch of them everywhere. When you couldn't find something at one place, you can go to another one.
The Gap sucks !! I don't know why I haven't learned my lesson by now. I guess I just need confirmation over and over. The two queens folding clothes and serving up attitude was amusing though. It's always the ones who have no business having attitude, that have the most. Too bad, so sad. Keep folding those t-shirts babe.
pop quiz:
you were just offered a catering gig. the dress code calls for plain black slacks. you, for whatever reason, do not own this staple article of clothing.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
you suck it up and take your ass to gap. sure, the blinding lights are a bit much, and the music will almost certainly make your eardrums bleed, but you can't argue with the inventory at this location. the place is quadruple the size of a standard in-mall gap, and they carry the majority of the inventory you'd find online. the staff has always been pretty helpful (there was this one girl a while back who needed a good bludgeoning, but she was just an idiot) and i've always seemed to find myself there when it's really slow, so the wait for fitting rooms and/or registers has been minimal.
for fun, funky, colorful clothes with a bit of personality in them, i go to value village, crossroads, or the like. when i need a basic item which i know i'll wear for years but for which i can't pony up hundreds of dollars, i "fall into the gap".
Say what you want about the mass-produced world we live in, but I just found the same belt that I'd bought here last September and have desperately been missing for the last week. Why would I only own one belt you ask? Well, how many can you wear at a time? In any case, I just bought the replacement belt, and a spare (on sale), and the salesgirl was UBER helpful to myself and others, didn't have a ho hum attitude at all and made my day. Super predictable = super easy. Yay. PS. I was at the University Village location.
The service at the store is so so, one time I was trying to do an exchange and a woman that was asian working said I made her nervous when I felt I was being overly clam about it, and not yelling or angry about it- making a big deal. She asked me to not come back later that night to finish it when I wasn't going to anyway, and its not like I was returning the item even. They were able to finally figure out how to do it and make it go through right but she tried to charge me for the item difference which I felt I shouldn't be charged for, the manager was able to do it right. Anyway aside from that overall the prices are generally reasonable and I am happy with what I've gotten from them.
