14 reviews for Ganni's Pizza
Yeah, I'm actually giving this place five stars. Having recently moved to the neighborhood from Boerum Hill, I was a little worried about the lack of places to eat, in particular reliable late-night dinner options. Certainly we are finding some nice neighborhood joints, but one can't argue with the sheer variety of places to eat between Court St. and 5th Ave.
But the one thing I never quite found in the old neighborhood was a really, really dependable pizza joint. I'm talking a take-out or delivery place, not a super thin crust coal- or wood-fired place (a la Frannie's, Grimaldi's, Lucalis, etc.). Those places are good, but sometimes you just want a good slice of red sauce cheesy pizza that is the size of your head and that you fold up and devour like a real New Yorker.
I can now say that Ganni's is the best I've had in this category of all the places I've tried in Brooklyn. The sauce is just a tad sweet, but not too sweet. The crust is thin enough so that it approaches the ultra-thin crust style, but thick enough that two pieces is a big meal. The cheese is plentiful and melty. The toppings are chopped small enough so you don't get big slimy peppers, stringy onions, and hamburger-sized sausages on your pie. They have a decent array of interesting toppings. They sell by the slice, or by the pie. And they are fast and friendly and open really late.
I don't like leftovers -- especially leftover pizza, ask Denis H. -- but I have finished every slice of every pie we've ordered from Ganni's, as it reheats in the toaster oven like a dream.
Oh, and they do killer hot parmigiana subs and garlic knots.
Ganni's I love you.
I use to be a huge fan until I waited an hour and a half for delivery. As a matter of fact, I'm still waiting - as I write this!
Perhaps I ordered on an off-night or too late at the night, but the pie that was delivered to my apartment at 11pm on Sunday was not a real pizza.
The crust was thick and doughy, like hydrated cardboard.
I haven't had Ragu/Prego in a very long time and there is a reason why, but thanks to Ganni, we were re-introduced.
I'm not sure Ganni know where to buy real cheese.
Me and the rest of the tenants in my building adore Ganni's. Their pizza is fantastic. I often go in there to get a slice, rather than a pie for delivery because, as is the case with most pizza joints, whilst being delivered the pizza steams itself and loses its crunchy crust. Who wants one's crunchy crust lost? Not I. You can actually taste the cheese, the sauce is well seasoned, and of course, that ever-beloved crust. The garlic knots here are killer, too.
They're open til 2:30 during the week and 3:30 or 4 on the weekend. They freakin rule.
For the record - no one in my building has gotten in sick from their food in the 4+ years we've lived here.
Oooh this place is good. I will say what the problem I had was first, the cheese. I am not a huge cheese fan, and the cheese on this pizza is laid on thick! For many people that is a major plus, and since it is just particular to me, I am not knocking off any significant amount for it. Thick Cheese!!
Ok, we got a pizza delivered, large with sausage, garlic and mushroom. FIrst of all, it was only $20 for the pizza + delivery, how amazing of a deal is that? The large is HUGE, two of us barely made a dent. Seriously, two people don't need a large, it's massive. The ingredients were great, the garlic was EXTREMELY plentiful and SOOO freesh. I am getting hungry just thinking about it. Great pizza, great price, fast delivery. I suggest you try it out.
***UPDATE***
Despite sickening multiple people multiple times, Ganni's pizza is so good that we had to try it again a few weeks later.
No need for Pepto this time. Perhaps had a bad batch of something? At any rate, I'm restoring most of their stars and am cautiously optimistic.
***UPDATE***
Much as it pains me to do this, I must pull my 5 star recommendation from Ganni's.
The food is still just as tasty as ever. The folks there are likewise just as nice. The problem? Stomach problems the last three times I've ordered from there. And not just me - most everyone that had their food also came down with a stomach ailment.
It might just be me, it may be coincidence. But I suspect that Ganni's needs to be more careful with sanitary conditions.
It is still the best tasting pizza around. But you might just regret it the next day.
---original review---
Not just the only good pizza in the neighborhood, but just great Brooklyn style pizza. Some of the best around, period. They're also very nice folks to deal with.
Because Ganni's is only 3 blocks away from my apartment, I've become a regular. Location isn't the only thing that keeps me coming back. The pizza is really quite delicious! I've tried a few "authentic New York" places, but Ganni's seems less greasy and a bit more substantial than a lot of other places. The calzones are excellent, also, but you might want to request extra sauce (which is really good itself) if you like more than an ounce. The only not-so-great order I've gotten is the meatball calzone. The calzone overall was good, but the meatball was really dry. The salads here are nothing special, but the house dressing is much better than bottled Wishbone anyday. Thumbs up, Ganni, whoever you are...
I didn't have as good of an experience as the other folks on here. I had a slice of bacon and pepperoni. I found that my slice was severely lacking in the sauce department. I wanted to give this place two stars based on the food. But considering that the slice was only $3 and the people here were very nice, it gets three stars.
They've got your standard NYC pizza - the kind of slice you'd kill for any where else in the world, but can find just about every other block here.
Kudos to the staff who were friendly, and refused to rush an order, saying "I only slow cook my pizza, that's how I do. If you want it, you gotta wait."
Stay away from the salad which had canned nasty mushrooms on it. Bleh!
In a neighborhood lacking many restaurants (for now), Ganni's is a great go to pizza place. It's not the best pizza ever, but it is consistent, great and a good choice for pizza in the area. It's reliable and good.
The service is quick, nice and simple. Delivery is fast.
While the pizza at Ganni's is truly excellent, the best part of the pizza spot is the people who work there. I can't sit on my stoop on Franklin Ave for more than 5 minutes without running into one of their delivery guys. The woman who answers the phone there sometimes always says 'no problem, baby' everytime I order a pie. I love that. Thank the good lord for Ganni's
Good, good, good pizza! Open quite late, which is unusual in this neighborhood - hot, cheesy, delicious. $2 for a slice, super friendly people.
There's a pizza place right across the street from me, but quality of their pizza leaves much to be desired. After reading the good reviews here I had to check these guys out. Sure, I had to walk a couple blocks past the pizza place near me, but it was well worth it. I found that it had the perfect amount of cheese, sauce, and crunch.
I love this place and their mexican infused italian food. And they deliver and they take credit card. Another reason for me to enjoy the delivery experience. Not to mention the cheap prices and delicious pizza. Thanks Ganni's :)
