I ordered a double cheeseburger not thinking they are 1/4 lb patties.  I was asked if I want bacon.  Sure I love bacon, it's great on everything!

What??!!  Craziest burger I have ever seen.  Period.  Massive with two patties that looked to be hand made, huge bacon strips, and heart stopping American cheese oozing out the side.  It was as big as a babies head!  I can't believe they give you fries with that thing!   It was disgustingly gluttonous.  I was seriously stunned when I saw it, but I manned up and massacred that f&%@in thing.  Ridiculous overeating, but we can't waste food now can we? :)

Sadly, no turkey burger option, but the grilled chicken was pretty good, if a little greasy. Loved the unexpected offer of a rather generous side salad when I asked for no fries. I just didn't want to waste anything, had no idea there was a healthy alternative.

And in case you are looking at the menu and share my curiosity, the Bobo (or something similar in name) is a double cheeseburger with bacon, named after a customer. This person is likely not a healthy yelper, or was rewarding him/herself for the most amazing DJ/marathon ever!

The Boyfriend was craving a burger late at night and Yelp found us Ganims Market. It's a small, unassuming liquor/drink store + burger place in Potrero Hill. I've had tastier burgers but I loved how the patties are real ground beef - you can tell by the way it kind of melts in your mouth. The burgers are pretty large and the fries are crispy on the outside and mealy on the inside. Ganims is a no-frills kind of place - there are only a few select extra toppings you can order like bacon or mushrooms. All in all, a solid place that has great prices.

Ok.  So I have been going into Ganim's for, like, 25 years or so.  The burgers there are unsurpassed and they are priced right.  Ganim's has retained the character of the old Potrero Hill neighborhood and that is something that has all but disappeared.

This is review is simple based on getting a little take-out,friendly over the phone service and a decent burger.Ganim's offers decent edible items on their menu, but I would say try the burger.

We went with the double double burger(oink oink) and fries. Our request for well done was achieved and the fries were crispy yet decent.

The fish and chips might be on the "to try list" next time.

Overall,if you have a burger crave you should put this on your to try list.

Picked this place because of my gyro craving and it's proximity to Sports Basement.  Gyro was good, but could have used more meat.  Fish and chips had too much batter and not enough fish.  Tasted like the oil hadn't been changed.  If I lived nearby or worked in this area, I'd grab a gyro every so often, but I dont' think it's worth the drive.

Service was nice and if you're into Keno, there's a very similar game you can play while watching ESPN.  Good selection of beer.  Food comes out fast and made to order.

A good burger place is not measured by the overwhelming number of spreads and toppings they can offer. Ganim's does the simple burger right without the need for gimmicks and hype. I now have weekly Ganim's visits for what tastes like the best burger in town.  Ganim's focusses on the basics and masters the original burger. For under $6 you get a cheeseburger and fries; you can't go wrong.  To top it off, Ganim's doubles as a liquor store with a great selection of beer that you can drink with your meal.

Fantastic! Went there the other day and discovered the lunch deal....a HUGE cheeseburger, fries and a soda for under $5. I don't eat burgers very often, so it's a treat when I do, and this place didn't disappoint! Friendly service, great food and very reasonable prices. You can't go wrong!

A block and half from my house... driving past it at least twice everyday... I obviously had to try this place out.

Didn't disappoint:
Gyro: very good
Fries: good
Prices: very reasonable

Noticed coupons on the back of my Safeway receipt: ++1

Definitely gotta come back and try out the fish n chips.

After getting a mediocre burger from another place nearby, on the suggestion of several co workers I tried this place.
I called ahead since I have short breaks to eat in the evening at work.
I was a little weirded out  when he confirmed my order and called me by my first name since it was my first time ordering, then I realized duh caller id!
Took me about 5 mins to get over to place and my order was ready for me to pay. Awesome!
The fries were crispy and soft, I ordered just 1/4 hamburger to test the waters. I was not dissapointed. The burger was cooked perfect and tasted delicious. Bonus for getting a can soda for only 25 cents extra. Total was $5.25. The man manning the front lines was very polite and friendly. Couldn't ask for anything more.
Thank you Ganim's for making my quick fast food dinner awesome!

Ganim's fills a much needed roll in the Potrero. This neighborhood's small commercial street is populated with fancy french bistros, hip coffee shops, $10 sandwich stores, and overpriced corner markets.
And then there is Ganim's. The burger has all the grill goodness you'd get in a diner burger but it only costs about ~$6 with fries. The beer is possibly the cheapest in the city and there is variety. The crowd is mainly local and don't be surprised to see people dinning here on back to back days. There is a TV for sports watching and almost a happy hour atmosphere to the dining area.
And the owner is a real dude who you want to root for. He will remember things you've talked about like you're having real conversations not just some over the counter customer service small talk.

I had to grab a quick bite before a volunteer event at Bottom of The Hill. Came here with a friend who lives nearby and ordered the burger with fries (I like the burger, she likes the fries).
Service was fast, not fancy, and the place is sort of a cross between a convenience store and a food place.
They have a decent menu and coupons on the Safeway receipt (Potrero Safeway). I enjoyed my burger, the company and didn't mind the ordinariness of the atmosphere. I would definitely eat here again.

One thing to get here, and one thing only: burgers!

I eat way too many burgers for my own good, so I know what is a good one. This place makes everything right in the world. We are talking lean, hand made 1/4lb patties on a perfectly toasted bun with awesomely fresh produce. It totally reminds me of a true home made hamburger. The fries are crispy and piping hot. The best part is the whole damn meal cost me only $4.59!

This most definitely a causal lunch stop, and not someplace you would want to go and "hang out" in... but with burgers this good, who the "f" cares right?

Ganim's is one of the things I miss about living on Potrero Hill . . . cheap, tasty eats a couple minutes walk from my old place. So I was working in the City and decided to swing by to reminisce and . . . well . . . get some cheap tasty eats!

Went for the gyro. What arrived was a *mound* of meat, veggies and sauce sitting on my plate. I salute anyone that can pick this up and eat this as served, but personally I had to eat about half with my knife and fork before even attempting to wrap my short, stubby fingers around the remainder for face stuffing consumption!

Was it the best gyro I've ever had? No. But it sure hit the spot and service with a smile doesn't hurt either!

When I got back to the office my afternoon productivity plummeted as I fell into an intense food coma.

Isn't it time for a Ganim's Montclair? I promise I'll be a loyal customer. Please?!?

I recommend this place to every in the area. Each item I've tried on the menu has been excellent, but the good ol' cheeseburger has to be my favorite. The top notch selection of beers and other beverages, along with televisions to enjoy, make this place a great stop for a bite to eat, or to grab a few beers.

This place is a little unassuming spot that serves some decent food, as well as being the neighborhood corner store. Most people go for their burgers, but I usually get the chicken sandwich or the kabobs when I drop by. Deli sandwiches, gyros, and burritos are okay too. Very friendly service and affordable prices. They have beer and wine also (apparently 10 of the reviewers are blind because they indicated that there was no alcohol, and only 3 people including myself, out of almost 40 reviewers, could notice that you're surrounded by cans, bottles, and ads for beer).

They are located near the 280 freeway that separates the residential area from the industrial zone. It's like a little Oasis to quench your thirst and hunger, since there's no closeby competition.

Probably the best value in burgers in town.  You fork over $5, you get an excellent burger, a drink, and fries that will probably be pretty good.  I work a few blocks away and used to go a couple of times a week until I realized I was getting fat and maybe this place wasn't helping.  The breakdown with the fries seems to be about 40% of the time they'll be kind of limp and soggy, 40% of the time they'll be good, and the other 20% will be excellent.

If you don't feel like being a fatass, they do an excellent grilled chicken sandwich.  On the other hand, if you've long since resigned yourself to obesity and a coronary and just want to enjoy the time you've got left, try the double double burger.  I've paid twice as much for burgers that were nowhere near as good as these guys'.

It's not a dining experience in the sense of being waited upon in a pleasant setting, it's a sit-down-provide-money-receive-burger type of place.  If that's what you're in the market for, this place is one of the best.

We walked by. We could smell the grease. We could see the people. We a little confused because it def falls into the dive category. We yelped, we went and we are conquered. Today we stopped in and ordered the ribs -- OMG, they were falling off the bone smoky favored wonderful. And we both ate ribs, with tortillas, rice, salad/dressing and drinks for $20! The ribs were meaty, big and tender tasty. And friendly! We told Sam we were new to the 'hood and he came over and shook our hands to introduce himself. Very cool. We saw someone being delivered a burger -- that's what we are ordering next time we go.

I just moved to the neighborhood and checked out this place with my partner today. We saw the great looking ribs on someone else's plate and had to go for it. The ribs turned out to be fabulous. They tasted nice and smoky and the meet literally fell off the bone. I had to eat parts of it with fork and knife because the meat was hanging off.  The salad and rice that came with it weren't fabulous but just right for these ribs.
Together with two Cokes we paid $20.
The owner was very nice and the place had string family atmosphere. Many regulars seem to come here as well and I am sure I will be a regular here soon.

Their fish and chips are such delicious greasiness!  They're the thick battered Gorton's style that reminds me of when my mom used to buy breaded fish from the Schwan man.  Yum!
The portions are huge, and the prices are so great.  I've had the burger several times too, but next I'm getting the gyro.
The owner/employees are super nice and usually throw in a free soda or two.
There are not a lot of healthy options, but what do you expect it's a convenience store.

"Ugghhh.....we have to eat HERE??" Was my initial reaction when Ganim's quickly became the only option for lunch in the 20 minutes we had to eat before hitting up sports basement.

I'm not gonna lie though...I was pleasantly surprised! I'm a bit of a food snob I'll admit and when I saw the outside of this place I was seriously debating whether or not to go w/o lunch for the day. Glad I got over that and decided to slum it and try something new. It's actually really clean inside and the kid taking our order was really friendly and helpful in suggesting a few menu items I might like. He was good too, somehow he knew I'm a sucker for anything Mexican so ordered a grilled chicken burrito...expecting nothing short of greasy fatty meat pilled in a cold tortilla....but it was actually quite tasty!!!

They used some kind of Mexican rice which really made the burrito unique and memorable. I still think it could have been grilled a little more to blend the melting cheese with all the other yumminess inside....but for the price and convenience (came out in less than 5 minutes) it was totally worth it! I'd go back again if I had to....I'm not scared.

Apparently their specialty is the fish and chips or a quarter pounder with cheese...neither of which go with my low cal/low carb diet....but sound terribly delish!!

Holy crap the surf n' turf burger is RIDIC!! It's basically a cheeseburger on top of a fried hunk of cod on a bun with tartar sauce. And it's $6.

The staff here are super friendly & awesome, & it's just basically a corner store with a grill in it.

Very highly recommended!

Shhhh!...this could be one of the best burgers in town, but let's just keep that our little secret...or else you'll be sleeping with the fishes off the pier at the Ramp...capeesh? It may not be quite at the In-n-Out level, but hey, no crowds...and it's definitely as good as the burgers I've had at Nation's. But you do have to drop your defenses about health and nutrition and embrace your inner clogged artery.

And such a deal...you could have knocked me over with a paper towel and still have enough to wipe down your counter. A good-sized cheeseburger with a hefty portion of fries costs only $3.98. If you want a double-double (hmmm...where have I heard that before?), it's only $4.98. You can get a three-piece fish-n-chips order for $5.38. They even serve lamb chops, a salmon plate and kabobs if you really want to go higher end....I imagine you'd have to bring your own white tablecloth and candelabra.

It's really a mini-mart with a TV and some tables....so don't expect the French Laundry. And the service is really friendly....no surprise since it's a family-run business.

FOOD - 4 stars...surprisingly good grilled burgers and tasty fries
AMBIANCE - 2.5 stars...well, I doubt if the owners aspire to be the next Michael Mina
SERVICE - 4 stars...fast and friendly
TOTAL - 4 stars...for those who tire of the zoo that In-n-Out has become

Cheap, decent food. Lots of meat.
The grilled burrito (Galancha? dont remember the name) is my recent favourite. Good balance of meat / vegetable.
The gyros were great too but sometimes feels a little heavy because they're stuffed with meat. My jaw would get tired...

This place is raw... not designed at all. Look at that menu.. that type.
But if it looses its raw ugliness it wouldn't be Ganim's!

This neighborhood greasy spoon is perfect for a quick and cheap weekday dinner.  Not a destination restaurant, so don't drive more than 15 minutes to come here.  I wouldn't call this place fast food joint, but it's quite not a restaurant.  It's part market, part deli.

FOOD:  Although the sign outside shows a burger, I felt that their cheese burger ($2.98) is solid but not great.  They use regular safeway style buns and their meat quality is average.  I liked their two-piece crispy fish and chips ($4.38).  My favorite was 3 skewer chicken kabobs ($5.69).

BEST PART:  My favorite feature is that you get to purchase what ever drink you want at regular market price and drink it with your meal.  I bought a can of import beer for $1.  If you come in a group, you could get a six-pack and enjoy!

Great location with easy access from highways and it's usually very easy to find parking.

I had my Yankees hat on and my buddy rolled with me with a Dodger hat during the play off's between the Giants and Dodger. Brazen not stupid, but very hungry. We were hungry and for some reason we ended up at Ganim's by accident to buy pack of beers, and ATM.

I was tapped out of cash and I only had $20, so we ended up muching at G's and we got to talk to some locals with a distaste for So Cal, all in all the place was warm and it was cool conversating with strangers eating at this hole. I was telling my lady friend today that there is this hole in the wall liquor-mart in SF that serves good grilled foods and a  friendly family owned store.  Today this was bugging my noggin for that name, and I had this store on the top of my tongue, and I could not remember the name of the store until I searched this on YELP, and lookie lookie, I guess we have some Yelpers who also been to this little hole in the wall secret in SF.

Yes! There you go, Ganim's that's the name and this is the place and it is the best kept secret in SF for this kind of fare. The 2 piece fish-n-chips(tasty fries) is good enough for me here with with a bottle of soda, and then brown bag a beer on the way out of the city.(SF back to San Jose) I'm not a fan of the burgers here, but my buddy was, and he requested 2 orders of the burgers. I was very surprise that the guys were so friendly over my buddies hat, and as for me I got ridiculed for just being a Yankees fan.  All in all the dudes working there was friendly to me and my Dodger buddy. I give this place 4 stars for the "liquor-mart-deli service" and food was ok, however if i'm in the area i'll definately go here for the food again when I'm down and out. Thanks Yelp for solving my mystery.

This was the second time I've eaten here and everything but the fish and chips is pretty uninspired and eh, just alright. The fish and chips are the bomb diggety. I got the damn steak burrito today and 5 hours later I can still taste it in my burps. It tasted pretty damn good but my stomach has been churning for a while. I'll give it another try sometime in the not so near future. The service is impeccable. The guy that was making the grub was just hella damn nice and you can tell he's a grateful man.

Want a decent burger and fries on the cheap?  This is a good place to go if you live nearby. I go once or twice a month when I just dont' feel like cooking and really want something filling and fast.

The double burger with cheese and french fries is about $5.  How is that for cheap?  The meat isn't anything special - a little less tasty than Wendy's, probably more similar to Burger King.

I've had their fish 'n chips before as well. It is also around $5 and includes french fries.  The fish was a bit on the greasy side, so I'm not so inclined to recommend it. I have not tried other offerings on the menu, but I suspect they are all fine. The big draw for me is that I walk up a block and east a block to get my fast, good value of a meal when I need it.  :)
