    OMG--I am in heaven...
This is a long story, so here goes...
One of my favorite dishes in town has been the Farm House Chicken which we would get periodically at Killarney's In Davidsonville when we felt like venturing that far.
Well, as my life so often goes, when we went last time they informed us that it was no longer on their menu. WHAAAAAAAAT???????
Apparently the corporate office felt that all of their restuarants had to offer the same menu and so this ambrosial dish was banished to the occassional special.
Now here is the weird part...
Galway Bay is one of their restaurants and on a recent trip in, there it was in all of its glory on the dinner menu: the wonderful, the spectacular, Farm House Chicken.
They even serve it for lunch if you ask.
Does this make any sense? no
Do I care? not even a little
Galway Bay is way closer for me and the chicken was just as wonderful. (the gravy is a bit different, but just as good)
So, here's what to expect (and it's not for the dietary faint of heart)
A gorgeous crispy fried half chicken, a mound of mashed potatoes, another mound of parsnips mixed with carrots, another mound of sage stuffing and a major sized portion of steamed broccoli--all smothered in the lovely gravy. Plus this delicious monstrocity comes with a salad too--all for about 17 bucks--pretty awesome.
And don't forget to get an order of their Irish Soda Bread--yummy
Yep, from my dashed depths I have now risen back to the cloud number 9
Thank you Galway Bay for making me one very very happy camper!
And I don't care what else they do or don't do...this is a 5 star best ever can't go without it dish...

Used to love this place, but no more. We always go for Christmas eve dinner and I'd bring friends there when in town sailing in Annapolis. No more!

The staff was TERRIBLE. I say this not lightly friend (though I obviously have an issue with bad staff considering what I always write about in reviews). It was my grandmother's 90th and there were 14 of us there for late lunch - and we wanted to eat, drink, and be merry. We were seated 35 minutes late, drinks took 25 minutes to reach the table and then we had to ASK to order our food 45 minutes after being seated (so an hour and 15 minutes later). We asked for water refills. Never happened. And guess how many other tables in out area? That's right, folks, ZERO. So, at the end of the meal and begging for service, I had to tell the manager and he said, guess what? "Listen, I was JUST chewed out by the table before you...." to which I politely smiled and said "Sir, you do realize that's not my problem?", he doubled-back and attempted to apologize, but after terrible service and then being blamed for it, I left with a bad taste in my month... and did I mention it also left with a sick feeling in my stomach an hour after eating the far too greasy fare.

No thank you, Galway Bay, no thank you!

I love the atmosphere in this establishment. Really nice crowd enjoying themselves. You just get very comfortable in this place and want to stay for a long time.

We ordered Fried Oysters and Calamari and thought they were good. Not off the chart, but good. The Irish beer on tap was outstandingwas outstanding.

Good price/value and enjoyable place to hang with friends. A must visit when in Annapolis.

Great atmosphere - a respectful and honest imitation of a pub in Ireland, with better food and service. Food is really good - not just a bar after thought. Staff is friendly and the bartenders are good at their trade. Great for dinner or just a drink.

I was not impressed.  Cabbage rolls...bleh!  Soup was ok, but had to send it back because it was cold.  Salad was ok.  Ordered the baby spinach.  Had big leaves w/long stems.  Definitely not baby spinach.  Food was overpriced.  The service was ok & nice atmosphere.  I was very disappointed.  Had heard great things about this place.

This is a very popular places with locals.  It has a separate dining area and a separate bar area.  This is one of the best bars in Annapolis and one of very best places to have a well poured Guinness.  Food is pub style, good, and relatively a good value.  The menu appears to be the same in either area,  The Boxty is excellent, as is their portobello mushroom sandwich.  The owner is very involved in the restaurant and the immediate business community- he is most often on site.  Galway Bay is a favorite for lunch and evening drinks- a good place for dinner too!

I've lived in Annapolis for less than a week, and this place is already a favorite.

Perfectly poured Guinness, lovely traditional atmosphere (the last time I went it was completed by two Irishmen at the table next to me, one of them a priest), and delicious food...what more could one ask for?

The food is a bit pricey, but not bad for downtown. Plus, it's really hearty and filling, perfect portions to share.

Galway Bay has the reputation as the best Irish pub in Annapolis.  I went there for a beer after work last week with my buddy and was impressed.  There were real Irish tourists drinking there!  Genuine?  Check!

One of the things I liked most about Galway bay is how original everything feels.  It's slightly dark and old with wood paneled walls and seems like it's been there for 200 years, which considering the location, probably has.  It has that genuine, old-world charm that you don't see much in the US, and that's what makes this place so great.

As a beer guy, the selection isn't bad.  On draught they have the standard Budweiser/Heineken/Guiness Irish Pub fare, but also have some less-common Euro beers like Smithwicks and local microbrews from Old Dominion.  Prices weren't crazy either, I think it was $3.50 a pint.

I really don't have anything bad to say about Galway Bay- it's a great place.  I just can't give a place more stars until I've tried the food.  Which will be soon, because I live like a block away.

I love Galway Bay. When tourists ask me where to eat, Galway Bay is on my list.

If you want to relax with friends, the bar is casual. Trivia is awesome. Bartenders are always great. If you want to come with a group the restaurant area has tons of space. If its just you and your significant other there are quiet tables for two. There is a comfortable place no matter what you need. The irish music puts you in the mood to eat.

I love the decor of old Whiskey bottles, Irish trinkets and the stained glass map of Ireland.

The entire staff is friendly and professional. Service is efficient. Food is awesome. I've only ever had one thing I didn't like here, the duck cheesesteak, which was greasy.

My favorites are the fish and chips, the irish ruben, the whiskey and tomato soup, and the cabbage wraps. Don't shy away from the regular menu, everything is worth a try.

Good, hearty irish food. Great mixed drinks. The best brunch in town.

Irish food often gets a bad rap, but this place is unbeatable.

Compared to nearby CastleBay, Galway is probably a bit more upscale. That doesn't mean it's automatically better, but it's probably a better destination for a group, dinner, or something less crowded.

The food really is fantastic, and for the high level of quality of the dishes, I really felt like I had hours to sit back, relax, and enjoy myself. We had beers to start, a small appetizer, a main course, and just hung out with some wine. The feeling was so casual, even if everyone's attire (at the time, it was just after 5pm on a weekday) wasn't.

Note: I've only been to Galway once, but the experience was so relaxing, and the environment so friendly, that I can't justify giving it less than five stars. I'd spent all day in the sun, walking around historic Annapolis, and it was the perfect way to end the day.

    Thanks for a great time.

Great food, an awesome staff, and they have Kilkenny beer.

After going there just a few times, I already felt pretty comfortable with the bartenders and waitresses.  There are a good number of regulars nightly, and you'll get to know everyone pretty quickly if you grab a seat over at the bar.

Monday nights they have specials on burgers, and Tuesday is trivia night.  Both are a pretty good time, which is pretty obvious with how packed it gets during either event.

The only real downside I can think of is that they close at midnight.  But I suppose that's no big deal when you can walk right around the corner to Harry Brown's once last call rolls around.

My wife and I ended up here after a terrible experience at the Wild Orchid Cafe.  We have been here before and knew we could trust the food and the service.

The food was very good, though I was disappointed that even though they were to have Prime Rib (Thur - Sun) and it was Thur, no Prime Rib was available (7 pm).

Food was excellent, plentiful, and reasonably priced.

There is only one thing you need to know about Galway Bay.

    CORNED BEEF POPPERS.

Also Dark and Stormys, the best tomato soup I've ever had, fantastic shepherds pie, and a seriously dangerous Bailey's Irish Cream dessert mousse thing.

Remember to ask for bread- they don't bring it to you unless you ask and it is SO worth it. It's some kind of dense, sweet soda bread thing with raisins and currants studded in it. And it's especially good with the leftover sauce from the corned beef poppers.

An open booth waiting just for us? Shock Top in my hand. Waitress is quick. Catching up with old girlfriends visiting and in town. So far so good! A young wedding reception moved itself on over here. Cute little pub. Just wish there was live music and last call came way too quickly. Guess the princess turns into a pumpkin at midnight. I'll have to try the food sometime too.

We went to this place because it got good reviews on Yelp.
    Incredibly disappointing.
It was 80+ degrees outside, sunny, and they didn't have their air-conditioning on. Not a good sign.
There was no one there for lunch, we arrived between 1-1:30pm.  Seemed strange.  Add to that, the meal took less than 10 minutes to bring out:  I ordered a chicken sandwich with fries. There was no way they cooked it that fast, and as there was no one there, it also seemed unlikely that they had it at the ready because 'so many' people were ordering it.  It seemed more likely that it was a microwaved dinner.

Having not seen their kitchen, I can't confirm that, but it SURE DID taste like one.  Incredibly disappointing meal for our one-and-only lunch in Annapolis.  The decor was decent, though.  Service was fine.  Food was bad.

Nice food but the atmosphere is a little lacking during lunchtime. We definitely looked like we were from out of town but still, does that merit bad service? We weren't offered drink menus or even the chance to order drinks and had to ask our waitress specifically for the drink menu after ordering our food. She was so slow about it and why? Drinks rake in more money!

Well I ordered the specials - lobster rolls! I was a little skeptical coming to an Irish pub and ordering seafood but hey, it's Annapolis! They were delicious but a little heavy on the mayo and I really should've only ordered one. It felt like 5 lobsters died to become part of my lobster rolls, they were really packed with meat so I appreciated that! Also they sell Dogfish Head 60-minute here, so I had the perfect mid-day kick.

Everybody else at my table enjoyed their meals but by the end of the lunch hour, we were the only ones in the restaurant and realized they were playing really slow, depressing music - we joked we were at an Irish funeral. Maybe they really wanted us out for some reason but when I go to an Irish pub, I expect a certain lively experience and even if we did come at lunch hour, give us that experience, please! I try to mainly rate on food so that's why this pub still gets a solid 4 stars.

If you are in need of a casual place to go with a group of people with differing tastes, look no further than Galway Bay. The spacious dining room will easily accommodate a large group of people while the attached pub will easily provide a more intimate setting. The food is hearty and tasty, while usually cooked very well. The crab cakes are some of best ones outside Eastport, but the best things to get here are pub food (shepard's pie, burgers, stew, etc). The desserts are okay.
I went here a lot with my tutors and friends during college. If you need a 'white sock' of restaurants, then go to Galway!

I first discovered Galway in late August after moving to Annapolis. I was sold from the very first visit. Every member of the staff is reason enough to come back. On top of their warm hospitality, another perk of Galway is that the bar has no TV. this way, people can get together and meet strangers in the true fashion of an Irish Pub.
Try the Crab Bites or the Crab Cake Sandwhich- after trying many in Annpolis, I can say that Galway has some of the best. Also, the Tomato Whiskey soup is fabulous. Trivia Night is on Tuesdays and they have a great happy hour during the week from 3:30-6:30.
Galway Bay offers a great atmosphere and wonderfully friendly staff that make you feel at home.

My tuna steak sandwich fell apart but it has good ambience and a very friendly and personable staff. Right down the street from the Naval Academy, this place probably sees a good deal of tourists and military visitors, as well as just general folks around Annapolis. I love the convenience of the location (I'm a summer intern at the USNA) and have enjoyed a few of the appetizers. Looking forward to going back!

Outstanding!  Great atmosphere, service was right on time but not rude or pushy.  We ordered the Cuban for our ten year old, we asked for no tomatoes.  When it came out, it had tomatoes, so I said, I won't make you take this offthe bill but you need to bring him a small plate of corned beef and veggies instead.   They were super happy to do that...the beef stew was excellent.  I don't recommend the crab dip if you're trying to avoid fatty dishes.  It's like cream cheese and a few shreds of crab.  Not worth it.  Everything else was excellent.

In fairness, this review focuses mostly on the crabcake and mussels.  I would love to come back here and try the Irish food (if the creme fraiche was any indication, it holds a ton of promise in that regard).  As far as the crabcakes and mussels, however, I think Galway Bay might be overpowered by other restaurants.

The crabcakes here are good; they just weren't exceptional.   While I appreciated the use of high grade crab meat, I was less enthused by the relatively high amount of filler used in this preparation.  When I think of an awesome crabcake, I envision an almost Jenga-like wonder about how so many huge chunks of crab are held together by the tiniest of bonds.  That isn't the case here.  These concoctions won't be confused with the preparations at Mike's Crabhouse or the Annapolis Seafood Market.  Again, that isn't to say the crabcakes weren't tasty.  It is only to say that I like some other places in Annapolis better for that particular treat.

I was not a fan of the mussels that we ordered.  The traditional preparation was overpowered by the tomato flavor and it appears that the mussels hadn't really soaked in the flavors of the broth.  The mussels themselves were cooked pretty well (slightly overcooked for my tastes).

The kitchen worked wonders with the vegetables.  Sure, butter and oil make all veggies taste divine, but it was the creme fraiche dipping sauce that was absolutely incredible.  Nice and thick yet pleasantly accented with hints of garlic, this dipping sauce would make a treat for the Gods.  Well done Galway Bay!

On a subsequent visit, I'm coming here for the Irish food and the beer.  Based on my limited experience with that portion of the Galway Bay experience, it should be incredible.

This is an authentic-looking/feeling Irish pub and hey, it's even run by an Irish guy! Good selection of beers, and an impressive menu of traditional Irish dishes along with Annapolitan fare.

I could have easily gone for a Shepherd's pie, or a number of other tempting items, but this was my first day home for many years and I was craving *real* MD crab cakes. My dad said this place had some of the best around, and I was not disappointed. Large, tender hunks of fresh blue crab meat, with only enough additional ingredients to hold it together and give it that savory Chesapeake flavor. They were so tasty, I could have eaten them all day.

If I were staying in town longer, I would definitely spend some quality time in Galway Bay. Too bad I won't be in town on 9/24, when they celebrate the 250'th year anniversary of Guinness with $2.50 pints - and guess what else - a friggin' crab cake eating contest!

This pub just "feels" right.  After our waiter/bartender carded us, he never called us by anything other than our first names.  The atmosphere is incredibly laid-back and the vibe here is just spot on.  That being said, I will not go to other pub in Annapolis (unless I am forced/dragged to it).

I'm a big fan of Galway Bay.   I started going there with a group of fellow Catholics during the Fridays of Lent - they have the most delicious Fish and chips.  Big pieces of flakey white fish with light and crispy batter cooked to the perfect shade of golden brown.  Thick cut chips, and their take on tartar sauce on the side.

Galway Bay is wonderful because it doesn't try too hard to be something that its not - it's a pub, and they know it.  And they're damn good at it too.  Great selection of icey cold beers - try the red on tap - and a menu that does this irish girls heart good.  When I'm not in the mood for fish and chips, their sandwiches and stews are always a great bet.

Another impressive quality about Galway Bay is that they are great at handling large groups - never a problem to push a bunch of tables together, and you almost always get a table very quickly.

If you're just in the mood for some good, down home irish food and a nice cold beer, Galway Bay is a great choice!

Galway Bay is quite possibly one of my favorite places on Earth.

The hasn't been a time when I've sat at the bar to see Hoss, Sean or Allen's smiling faces and felt, that with a cool Magner's in my hand, I could relax just enough to solve the world's problems. Or at least manage my taxes.

Galway Bay is *just* *right*. It's not touristy Irish, or touristy Annapolitan, or just freaking touristy for that matter, but it's somehow found the balance of staying small and welcoming in a busy seaport town.

And they serve the best corned beef and cabbage in Maryland.

I heart the pub at Galway Bay enough to marry it.

I have returned to Galway Bay, and will continue to return! Anytime I'm in the mood for a great Irish meal, or a great Irish pub, I'll swing by Galway bay. I love Reubens, so I'd definitely recommend the regular or turkey Reuben sandwich! All of the other dishes are also delicious.

The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the pub side is a great place to go with a friend or two and relax in conversation. (The pub and restaurant are separate). I definitely recommend this place, bar or restaurant, if you're looking for a good (perfectly priced) meal or a great beer/cider.

I loved the experience of Galway Bay. The atmosphere is just nice, casual and relaxing.  It was fun and the service is great.  And they serve cider (which I have found can be hard to come by in Annapolis).

The crab dip appetizer was delicious and the shepherd's pie was just perfect.  If you love Irish pub food, this will definitely fill any void you've been looking for!

I also loved that they had flyers by the door for a charity event they were a part of... it's nice to see restaurants helping out their community.

As someone who spent 4.5 years in the lovely hamlet of Annapolis, it may shock you that I did not go to Galway Bay until I had left. You would think pale Irish college girl + Irish bar = perfect match but because it is off the beaten path (AKA not in DTA) I never went.
But one weekend when I returned to visit a friend with my sister she suggested this bar. And I am very glad that she did. If you are looking for a bar in Annapolis not filled with middies or old men looking for a young lady to take on their sailboat look no further. Galway Bay is a simple Irish pub that doesn't get overcrowded and has just some great people. The service is great and feels somewhat like what I would expect of Cheers, because after a visit or two everyone knows your name.
I didn't eat anything here but I can say that the restroom is wonderful and even has a writing desk in case you feel the desire to pen a note to your local Congressman :). But seriously its a great place if you want a drink without having to squeeze into a dark sweaty DTA bar.

My first visit here there was live music, and it was a random weekend mid-day...

I had a duck philly sandwich.  it was good for the most part, but a few bits and pieces of the meat were inedible.  I should say, the food was much, much better than what I expected it to be before having set foot in the place. :)

...my next trip I ordered one of their burgers off of the specials menu.  It was very not-special.  The burger was a thick burger, but from a frozen patty (from what I could tell).  There was a stout cheese on top, but it wasn't melted at all.

The soup of the day was shrimp bisque.  That was quite, quite wonderful.  It was made very similarly to how some of the crab soups in the area are made, but of course shrimp.

SO had fish and chips. That was good too... ordering failure for me. :(

I'd go back though, it's stlll some of the best food you can get in the touristy side of Annapolis.

Great, intimate, "pubby" setting.  This actually *IS* a pub, not a place that was built to look like a pub (i.e. Fado, etc.).  Our server even had red hair and spoke with an Irish accent.  How is that for authentic?

I've only been here once and it was with the parents and the SO for brunch.  I can't remember what they called it but I had the traditional Irish breakfast.  Tons of meat, eggs, black and white pudding, fries.  A cardiologist's worst nightmare (which, as per usual, means I LOVE it).  Everyone else I was with enjoyed themselves, too.  I think.  All I could get out of Dane with regard to his Duck Philly Steak thingee was that it was good.  If you go to an Irish pub, though, and order a duck Philly Cheese Steak, you can't really complain.  And he didn't.

There was a duo playing music which added to the excellent atmosphere.  I'd definitely come back; great service and solid pub fare can be a rarity these days!

Galway Bay has great beer and awesome food.

    I love their seafood platter!

Everything is very authentic...from the beer and food to the decor.

Absolutely first rate and reasonably priced.

Creamy Guinness - I have the strong feeling it was poured correctly, whatever that entails

Mussels appetizer - large serving of  flavorful mussels in the shell with a tomato cream sauce

    Bread - delicious, delicate flavors

Lamb stew - bowl filled to the brim with generous, flavorful, tender lamb, carrots, celery, meaty broth and creamy mashed potato scoop - this was enough for two servings for me

Seafood platter - salmon, oysters bursting with flavor, other assorted edibles (this one wasn't my entree), pureed carrot, mashed potatos - all excellent, succulent, mouth watering

Irish coffee - strong coffee, whiskey, home-made whipped cream on top

Memorable, wonderful food with great service in an unpretentious, pleasant atmosphere

Came here after day out on Sandy Point Beach for dinner (Sunday evening).  Very homey feel to the place.  It wasn't crowded at all, so it was easy getting a table (I suppose we sat on the 'refined' side of the pub).  The waitress was nice and attentive, and the service was quick.

I had the shrimp and crab cake special.  It was not bad.  The price was fair ($12.99 for the special), so I can't complain too much about it.  My friend had the Jameson-marinated steak, and he said it was good (lots of potatoes came with the steak, and I mean LOTS!).

    A pleasant weekend dinner. :-)

I love this place. After spending years in town for college, I came to have a very short list of places I'd go on a regular basis. Galway's was at the top of that list.

I am infatuated with their reuben sandwiches, both the irish and cornish. I'm getting sick with hunger just thinking about them. These are just... there is nothing better to be had in Annapolis than these delicacies. Their duck sandwich is also mind-bogglingly amazing. As you can tell, I love them first for their food. They have a separate dining area for the restaurant goers, but you can have full service at the bar or in the booths in the bar section.

They've got a nice selection of the favorite old-country spirits, and it gives you a really fine look into the very pervasive irish heritage of the area. It's the best place to have a drink in town. It's a great atmosphere that gets lively after dark but is perfectly hospitable in the brighter hours. Stop in for a drink at lunch, or knock a few back after work, you'll be welcome and happy whenever you go in.

I will be going in every time that I return to Annapolis for the rest of my life, God willing!

My wife and I just recently had dinner at Galway Bay. The food was bland and the service was "Ok". A dinner for two was $35 to include one beer, which in my opinion was not worth the money.
