Went back for the box show again this year. My favorite artist is Todd Fellows. I won his box two years ago after a long live auction battle. We drove straight from Yosemite to get there in time for the live Auction.
The box show is all for charity and really a sight to see. If you have the time and need something to do this weekend, go there and check it out. You can bid now, but the time to be there is for the live Auction and party on September 13th.
Spend the day in Olema; box show, cowgirl creamery cheese, bottle of wine at Bolinas. Great way to spend a daycation.
Go.

GRO is a great place to stop whether you're driving through and need to stretch your legs or staying in PRC ("Point Reyes County" as the locals loving refer to it).
The art always has an interesting flair to it and the best thing about my recent visit was that the artist whose work we were admiring was working the front desk.
You're guaranteed to see something that catches your eye and the gallery takes you one step closer to understanding why West Marin has such a cool artist vibe and active community. Definitely worth stopping in.

Stopped by to see the Annual Box Show, on the way to lunch. Really, we just wanted to know what exactly was meant by a Box Show.
It was just that - a show of boxes. Gallery Route One does it every year as their annual fundraiser (at least for the last 10). The boxes are decorated by local artists, and then there's a silent auction.
There was a wide range of boxes - from classic doll house like scenes, to light boxes, to parts of sculpture - truly something for everyone. Many of them didn't have any bids on them, but then again, it was early - still two weeks to go to the final bidding during the closing party. The interactivity of it all was very engaging - many boxes encouraged you to open them and touch them. There was even a raffle that guaranteed you a box entry for the 2009 show.
Walk down the street the next time you're in Point Reyes. Any gallery that has something as engaging as the Box Show has got to be an insightful addition to the every day.
Gallery Route One is a non-profit, artist-run gallery. They often have some really cool stuff in here. The best event of the year though is the annual box show (end of July through late August/early September). Each artist starts with a wooden box of the same size and then they are free to do with it whatever they wish. At the end of the show they auction off the boxes. There have been some really impressive pieces in the last few years. Several of the artists work at Industrial Light & Magic and make insanely detailed, true to life scenes. The box show makes visiting this awesome little town even more fun.

History
Established in 1983
GRO is a one-of-a-kind non-profit: we are a community-based, artist-run organization. We are a group of artists who believe that art is an intellectual, educational and spiritual necessity serving the cultural, political, and environmental concerns of our rural community and the greater Bay Area. We are proud to nurture and promote emerging and established artists who exhibit unique and pioneering works of art.
We are amazed with the quality of programs that we have created over these years and look forward to an inspired future. Our 25th year has been a time to celebrate: The Pacific Sun gave our 25th anniversary show in June-July a glowing review, we have a full roster of 25 artist members, and several new enthusiastic board members.
GRO is proud and appreciative of it's partnerships with so many community businesses and organizations, All work with GRO to make art accessible and integral to our community.
