I love this place, and I can't help it - yes, it is outside the 610 Loop but their incredible selection is outstanding.  Anthony B. must have never been to a bazaar in the Middle East if he is complaining about descending sales people - you just be a good American consumer and if push comes to shove, just say you need to roll on and are just looking.  What, Anthony, you never shopped for cars?

Their contemporary and transitional furniture is to die for - reasonably priced and worth the spend.  If you hunt, thou shall find great bargains.  I will be picking up some of their 100% solid mango wood furniture I found out about while perusing the Sustainable Furniture Council web site and when I read about a company called HTD out of Austin, I found they are carried by Gallery Furniture.

So, on top of great prices they have the green furniture (hell, I already got my Hastens bed from them - a Hastens Superia in SIlver Check, may I add, not the usual Blue Check, and with the coveted BJX topper - less than at Kuhl Limscomb by about $600, so all in all I paid only $8,000 for the bed).  And Hastens is the very definition of green in a mattress with the near zero carbon footprint.

Yes, he jumps up and down on the television, yes, he is bold and bright and in-your-face, but Mattress Mack IS a merchant and he IS an advertising guru.  Love him or leave him, he does deliver the same day, and he has cool stuff in the store to distract one (though, if I may, the hot dogs should be grilled, not boiled) from their end objective.

But you know, it is a Houston institution and as cheesy as it may be for some, it delivers on what it promises.  I get my stuff when I want it, and I am a very picky person (HELLO? Do you folks not read my reviews?)

So, as much as I hate to say it, follow the masses and don't be a fuddy-duddy like other reviewers and you can truly enjoy this shopping frenzy.  Sure, they hit you on the way in, but us pro shoppers know how to turn this to our advantage.  I have some new contemporary furniture from them, and I found out they carry KREISS furniture (hand made in California!).

If I am willing to pay $8000 for a bed, I sure as hell will pay $2000 for  an end table from the world's greatest furniture designer Michael Kreiss.  But that's me.  And that is also what blows my freakin' mind about Gallery.  If I wanna shop inexpensive, I can, or if I wanna blow my paychecks, I can.  Which is nice.  Save some on a lamp, grab me a new chest of drawers.

Executive Summary:  Bad customer service + high prices = 0 stars (but Yelp forces me to give one.)

Moving into a new house, it was time to buy a bunch of furniture.  So I headed out to Gallery on I-45 to see if it lived up to the hype.

I'd been shopping around, and was floored by the high prices here.  Items were routinely 20-30% higher than at other Houston stores.  Much of the merchandise is the same that you'll see at Finger's (RIP), Star, and other large furniture stores.  But if you shop the prices, Gallery just isn't competitive.

I did end up picking up two modern leather sofas that were on closeout.  Beautiful sofas, and these closeout prices were actually very good.  Since I have cats, I invested in Gallery's protection plan (about $700, if I recall on these pricey sofas) which promised to repair the leather if accidentally damaged.

It turns out I was pretty smart.  The soft leather did not stand up to the cats' rear claws, even though the salesman promised otherwise.

But it was all for naught.  When I asked Gallery to stand behind their protection plan and fix my sofas, they refused.  The service manager claimed that that pet damage wasn't covered.  This wasn't mentioned in the brochure, of course, nor anywhere else I could find.

If a merchant sells a protection plan and then weasels out of standing behind the product, that's a scam in my book.

Fool me once.  Gallery, you won't fool me again.  Friends, shop elsewhere.

I'm gonna be upfront - there's little about Gallery Furniture I like. Mattress Mac has made a success and gives plenty of people what they like, but I either don't know what that is, or my failure to stumble blindly with the masses has doomed me. First of all, I wanted to find furniture in Shaker style, knowing it was less common, but its clean lines were appealing to my contemporary sense.

I walked in the door and was descended upon by eager salespeople, a youngish friendly guy winning the race. No checkered flags tho. After making my wishes known, he dragged me all over this mammoth place to show me furniture that had absolutely no relation to anything that ever even remotely graced a Shaker decor.  No Shaker ever designed an overstuffed 14 foot curving sofa in red velvet. So after qualifying for the Boston Marathon, I call a halt to the expedition and started asking some questions the outcome of which the smiling friendly salesman didn't have a clue what Shaker was.

So I extracted myself from his grinning clutches and said I'd just wander and if anything hit my fancy I'd ask for him. Wandering and looking is nearly impossible as I was repeatedly accosted by aggressive salespersons. But I did get to wander enough to realize their prices were not all that great.

Later I bought a memory foam mattress for $300 less at Fingers. I got my dining room furniture from a delightfully friendly lady at Star who spent an hour scouring through catalogs and called me with several selections, two of which was what I was looking for and one that I bought. I also got a bedroom set from them by the same manufacturer and style number at Gallery but about 20% less.  I can wait 3 weeks to save $1000.

Like many places, I'm sure they get special deals on items and those are the best prices. I was left with a bad taste even after the second visit which was basically a repeat of the first, and am not planning to return. In a way it is disappointing, as Mattress Mac is a Houston institution and a great public benefactor.

When we were looking for new beds, Gallery Furniture was pretty low down on my list of places to visit.  The sheer size of it was intimidating.

After we drove to store after store, we finally decided it was time to give in and see what the fuss was all about.

This place is massive.  You need a map, a guide and possibly a llama to help find anything in here.  Luckily, we got a guide at the door and they led us to where the mattresses were located.  We didn't get a llama but a pack animal might have been nice to assist in our journey through the store.

Mattress shopping isn't easy.  How can you possibly describe what you want?  As it turns out, we had a variety of beds to jump on and try out so we could decide which one we liked.  My daughter wanted a Tempur-Pedic so selecting her mattress was a simple task.  The adults were a little more picky.  Since they had child care on the premises, we didn't feel the pressure of time spend boring our young child and were free to look at and check out all of the beds they had in stock.

Finally, made our selection and decided to do interest free financing.  The process was quick and we were approved for more than the cost of both mattresses.  Surprisingly, the sales people did not try to talk us into buying anything else.

The deal was sealed and the following day the mattresses arrived.  The delivery guys were just as nice as the sales people and helped me move our queen bed upstairs to the spare bedroom.  They unwrapped and assembled everything and even took the packaging away with them when they left.

Overall, a good experience in mattress buying.  I should have trusted Mattress Mack long ago.

When I first purchased my townhouse I was in need of furniture fast.  I closed on the house a month later than expected.  I had carpet put in the day after closing and the wood redone 2 days afterwards.  I was starting work the following monday and needed something in that day (saturday).  I went early in the morning and shopped their entire showroom.  I found a broyhill set.  I think it was a little bit over priced but it's hard to tell since a lot of their stuff isn't listed.  Well they followed through on their slogan.  Buy it today and have it tonight.  The movers carefully brought all of my furniture upstairs and set it up without any dings.  They were quick and very professional.  If i need something right away I'd go here.

All I have to say is shop around and keep an eye out for items on clearance at this place. We bought a dining room table originally priced at $800 for $378! It supposedly had a scratch on it but it was really little scuffs that are hardly even visible. I think you probably either hate or love this place. It's huge and they had a huge selection but you have to be in the mood to look to have fun here. Some of their stuff does seem overpriced, but I think you might be paying for customer service & guarantees since Mattress Mac is a man of his word. If you don't like it, you bring it back. No questions asked. Other furniture stores can't offer that since they open and close often much like restaurant. Just a thought ...

I went mattress shopping once at some store in the Galleria area.  I found expensive mattresses and considered going to check out the Gallery.  I was told, "Mattress Mac won't beat our prices".  He did easily.

Shana is right: the place is huge.  Also, they will try and sell you on $100 "stain proofing," which, if you can't tell from my scare quotes, is a scam.  I'm pretty sure everything there has the same chemicals sprayed on it.

But this place is a Houston institution, and it has been for decades.  If you're shopping for new furniture, this place has it all.

I need a new sofa and have made the rounds. Macy's, Dillards, Star, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, the list goes on.  Today, against my better judgement I went to Gallery Furniture.  That statement alone indicates my predisposition towards Gallery but I wanted to be proven wrong.  Well...the place isn't awful but it definitely wasn't for me.  The selection of sofa's (outside of the way-out-of-my-price-range Kreiss Collection) was dismal, lots of oversized, overstuffed sofas with built-in recliners, leather paired with velveteen, and other strange marriages.  I think if you're looking for bedroom furniture, a recliner, or to furnish a large dining room you will probably find something appropriate here.  Not much here for apartment/small home dwellers with simpler tastes. Think I'll keep looking online.
