- 1 star short of perfection because the price is somewhat higher than most Korean markets nearby
- HUGE and clean selection of Korean goodies
- veggies are fresh and the meat is plentiful
- they close at midnight

My favorite Korean market. Great meat, great veggies, great fruit, great kimchi, great banchan, great snacks, not as great, but cheap hot food.
The meat here is really good, especially if you're doing Korean BBQ. Seriously, don't be crazy and get meat from other places to save a few bucks.
ps. The chicken is good too. I like Foster Farm's all natural, but they don't carry that so I never got chicken here 'til yesterday when chicken was requested as part of our Saturday football BBQ. May I say the thighs were really flavorful, tender, and not from some ridiculous monster-sized alien chicken.

I absolutely love romping around this plaza-- it reminds me so much of Asia, which I dearly miss. The market is pristine and has a great selection of fresh produce and Korean sides. I love picking up the Kim Bap for next day lunch to go with my pounds and pounds of kimchi and fish and pickles. My favorite was the one time they were advertising instant nangmyun (cold noodles) and there was a motorized display of noodles in a bowl, being lifted by chopsticks. A child saw this and started to wail...wish I still had the photo saved in my phone, but it got deleted.
The food court here is also amazing. I would take this over any old typical mall food court any day. Being a lover of cold noodles, I came to the cold noodle shop here, but soon branched out to the other shops -- a shop with my favorite dumpling soup -- the broth so flavorful, and so much food for only about $9. It's reasonably priced and generously portioned.
The Cake House bakery also makes great coffee and offers beautiful tasty desserts. They are not cheap by any means, but I love the sweet potato bread roll. It's flaky and delicious and not too sweet -- great for breakfast in lieu of a boring crossaint.

I absolutely love this place!!
I experienced the Bridal package for a shower gift the friday BEFORE my wedding. YIKES!
It was amazing! Service, atmosphere! What a great gift. I could not believe how calm I was the next day? I felt hmmmm!
The selection isn't as abundant as I might want (and it's a little on the pricey side especially compared to the other supermarkets in the district) but it makes up for that in it's quality especially in produce.
Whenever I need produce, I go out of my way to go to Galleria. It's unrivaled. I haven't tried any of the meats or fish products, but I'd bet they were on par with the fruits.

I freaking LOVE Asian markets. I have a fixation for uncommon and bizarre foods. An Asian supermarket to me is what a Manolo Blahnik store is to BMW driving moms with no jobs.
This market is gorgeous. Han Ah Reum market in NYC doesn't even compare. Han Ah Reum is like Jessica Alba and Galleria Market is Angelina plus Brad and kids. I mean, they have a whole kimchi aisle labeled 'KIMCHI' in big glowing red letters!! And so many varieties of sam gyup sal and they are CHEAP. Even if I were 100% freaked out by foreign foods (you know.. like people who get grossed out by seeing a cooked fish with its head on) I'd still buy my meat here. They have a bakery too!! AND the countless aisles are wide.
I'm totally going to have to stalk an ahjumma with my binoculars and fill my grocery cart with everything she gets to make sure I get the best of the best because the choices are mind boggling!!

I love this market. It's so clean!
True it might be a little pricier than other "Ethnic" markets, but the quality and variety is stellar.
I love coming here to look at all the yummy snacks, sample the fresh fruits, and poke and prod at all the random animal parts and funky products.
Where else do you have a selection of 50 different kinds of dried seaweed and chili paste?
It's you one stop shop for produce and facial whiteners.
In the cart:
ICE CREAM! waffle bars are the best!
Rice cakes
Kim chi dumplings
Case of strawberries
Banchan bar... daikon and spicy cucumbers!
Single serving sized packaged foods like porridge.
I may not know which part of the animal is marinating in their tubs, but I sure do know what's tasty.

Nice clean supermarket, whenever I go to K town for dinner, I will swing by to pick up some kimchi and fruit.
Their marinated meat are good too, great for BBQ.
Parking is free, at least during night time when I go.
This is supposedly the GELSONS of K-supermarkets.
Everything you want to buy like fruits, vegetables, seafood, meat, K groceries and weekly specials seems to be 15 to 20 % higher than the other K markets.
Goods are neatly stacked and well arranged. Aisles are wide and clean and display specials are not too overly obstructive. No hideous, messy and inconsiderate shoppers lurking around. Clienteles are not too shabby. Queue lines are in order and no signs of impatience (like me). The cashiers and staff seems polite and polished.
The parking lot is full of high end vehicles. This speaks for itself.
Parking, by the way, is free in the adjoining structure.
I really feel out of place. Am I in K-town or K-Stepfordland?

This place is awesome! Well, I think it's great for veggies, fruits, korean goods, frozen fish, etc. Very cheap and very fresh. I think some places have cheap stuff but it's not fresh. This place is cheap and fresh! Free parking! Covered! Opens until midnight! The only complaint is I think meat quality can be better, but for Korean style meats you have to come here. I think for fresh meats the butcher or local American markets are still better. But the cheap prices in fruits and veggies really trumps their shortcomings.
As a fan of the Galleria Market, I'm a little worried. Since the economic downturn (aka The Depression), the meat department hasn't been the same. I don't know where they're getting the meat, but it isn't where they were getting it before. The "rib eye" was so tough, it remained chewy even after I stewed it for several hours. There was no way it could be rib eye. And it was pretty tasteless, like the stuff you get at Ralphs. Same with the pork. I used to love getting my meat there: good prices, good flavor. Not anymore. But I noticed the slide several months before. For instance, the food at the banchan bar now has a weird mold after taste -- you know, that taste you get from eating moldy bread. So, stopped buying that. I also bought shikhae (rice punch) that was so horrible, I had to throw it out. And, man, I don't throw anything out.
Well, at least it still has a great variety of food stuff and the produce is still good. I really hope they don't cut back anymore.

What other mall-market sells Korean synthetic comforters and blankets in the parking garage? This place is dope. It has fresh produce and meat and they have a pretty big bakery where I can devour all the greasy red bean filled donuts I grew up on. Their pan-chan bar is well-stocked with fresh little delicacies.
And it's cheap. I'm sold.
Woo-hoo for cheap food! I don't mean to be unfaithful to my own ethnic market (Mitsuwa)- but sometimes I just don't want to pay Japanese prices for my Japanese food. So I head to Korean markets. Too bad there aren't many on the Westside. I was in K-Town on Sat for lunch with Ben G and I wanted to stop by a Korean market for some groceries. I needed miso paste for my soup and I buy a major Japanese brand that you can find at any Asian market. So we go in and I immediately fell in love with this market! First of all, it's huge! There's a bakery, a sushi counter, a giant produce area, a hot foods buffet... wow! And they have tons of samples! It was better than Costco! Even though we had just eaten, I hate turning down free food! So Ben was just feeding me samples as we walked along- thanks a lot, Ben. The prices are great! They sell these "Seafood Stew" sets in the refrigerated area that have all the raw ingredients you need to make a hot pot dinner. And it was only $9.99! I definitely want to try that some time. The people were nice too- wonder if they thought I was Korean? Hmmm... Anyway, excellent selection, friendly people, very clean, and great prices! I can't wait to go back soon and get some more goodies!

I was definitely the only white person in this store, perhaps even within a 3 mile radius. But when that hankering for Korean food calls, you gotta tough it out.
The store is large, well stocked, and very reasonable priced. We came in for a certain drink, and ended up shopping for about an hour, leaving with a full grocery cart. They have some great selection on fresh meat and Korean marinades that just aren't available at the regular stores (Ralphs, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's). They also have a huge selection of parties and desserts, a great selection of fruits (I got a bunch of delicious tangerines), and even some great deals on booze (a bottle of Crown Royal and two glasses for $19).
What else can you ask for? Free parking? Yup, they got that too!

Okay, I'm only fan of the grocery store and the food court!! It's a mall in Koreatown, simply put. I like the Galleria Supermarket, the Wholesale Store and the food court.
Food Court - if you are not sure what you want to eat, go here. There are many options for you to try and it's not expensive. It's self serve, so don't expect someone to serve you. After you are done eating, you take the plate back to the counter where you got your food from. Only exception are those places that has seating inside the store.
Wholesale Store - this is located in the basement of the mall (under Galleria Supermarket). They sell bulk items (think of Sam's Club or Costco just for Korean/Asian products). They are reasonably priced and open to the public. Every time I'm in LA, I'll visit here and buy things that I need back in MI. Inside the area, you'll also find a kitchen store, which caters to restaurants. However, you can go in there and buy things you want for your home as well. I go there to buy stone bowls for BiBimBap, bowls for soup, etc. The shop also sells 20+ cup rice cookers, tea dispensers, sauce cups, etc. I highly recommend a visit.
Galleria Market - I love this place. This place is owned by Hankuk Market (on 1st and Western - a.k.a. HK Market). Besides fruits, vegetables, meats, etc., I love their banchan area. Back some time ago, you were able to taste before buying, but now they have signs that says no tasting allowed. Of course, you can always put some into the container and try it before you buy it, but don't let the employees see you The store also has some small restaurants that offer specialized food items that you may enjoy. Go and visit the store!!
This place is really really expensive. Normal items which you can find at Ralph's seem make Ralph's look like Food4Less was having a half-off special. But... it rules. That which you can get elsewhere, do. But --
This is where you go when you want a dense bucket of kim chi and want a selection.
This place also looks nice. A feast for the eyes.

Er.... I can see someone really loving this place if they didn't know about California Market, but after just visiting there a week ago, Galleria Market didn't really impress me.
First off, when you walk through the doors, an overwhelming smell of fish hits you. That's not exactly something I want to smell when I'm walking through the bakery or the produce aisle. In fact, I completely skipped the bakery even though there appeared to be some yummy things available. The fish smell was too much.
But, I couldn't skip the produce since 75 percent of my grocery shopping comes from fresh vegetables and fruits so I did my best to walk through without breathing too deeply. I was impressed with the selection, but not really the quality of it. There seemed to be a lot of bruised or dried or squishy veggies. Something else I noticed that was really odd was a trash bin right next to the spinach section. It was practically up against the produce and was reeking of trash smell too. That was a major turn off. I'm hoping that's not always there.
Next, I walked through the meat section. California Market is way better - hands down. The meats look and smell fresh. The meat here definitely did not seem so. In fact, if anything, they looked a little old. I'm sure getting it from the meat counter would be a little safer, but when you're in a hurry and just want to grab a package of meat, theirs wasn't so hot. It was doable though, and I came home with a pack of marinated beef strips for 3 bucks. It was kind of stringy, but not horrible.
The layout of the store isn't so great either. I found myself circling a lot and going up aisles that I had already been through. There was also a lot of stuff (boxes, packages, etc) on the ground. I actually saw an employee jump from the top of the fridge from a rather alarming height.
The cool things about the store that I must give props to is the heat lamped, pre-made food counter and the little hole in the wall food court stores that serve yummy chicken.
That's it. It wasn't a bad experience, just not quite as good as I had hoped. I'll stick with California Market any day.

Galleria teaches a good lesson in lie versus lay
Correct: I had lain in bed all day thinking how I miss Galleria Market's food court. Boy, I could really use some sauteed rice cakes; I love it how the food service lady perfectly lays the boiled eggs around the dish to complement the rice cakes and vegetables.
Incorrect: I want to lay by the produce section because it was so refreshing. "If I do it first, would you lay with me?"
The 3 tenses of lay
I wanted to lay down the pickled radish because it was so cold.
I laid the red bean pancakes near the right side of the cart to keep it warm.
I had laid down my udon bowl so that I could order some seared ahi.
The 3 tenses of lie
I wanted to lie down near the oxtail soup stand because it smelled so good.
I lay in the parking lot, checking out the hot security guard.
I had lain in bed because I was love struck by the hot security guard.
If ever you go to the beach and your friends say, "Hey, let's lay over there!", tell them you do not want to have sex with them. They'll look at you funny but you'll have the last laugh, you damn lay-versus-lie Nazi.

This is the BEST Korean (might as well make it "Asian") market I've been to, that hasn't been in Korea!!
If you're Korean and from the SF Bay Area, it is known by many that LA really kicks our ass in Korean food. Sure, I've been to some pretty crappy and not-so-great places; but when I'm K-town it feels like I'm in Korea.. only it's better because it's in America! There's a Galleria near my area in the bay.. but this Galleria is bigger, cleaner, better stocked, and has better tasting prepared foods. I usually like to stock up on all sorts of junk food at Korean markets. Here, spending $70 on candy, chips, crackers, drinks, and prepared foods looks (and is) so easy.
I really do appreciate the fact that there's garage attached to the building with easy access to the market. Oh yeah, and this market is open until MIDNIGHT EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR. Amazing.

Minimal organization that would be annoying at Ralphs is somehow quirky and precious because everything is in Korean. That said, brass tacks:
1. Plenty of free and easy parking.
2. An inexhaustible supply of lychee candy.
And it's conveniently located to all the K-town favs. Stop in after filling up at Manna, if you are able to climb out of the car.

Good Korean Market- Asian market in general. Fresh and cheap produce. Cheaper than the regular American Market chains. Well stocked and things are always always fresh that's all I can say. They also carry a lot of banchans which I love. It is closer to my place than heading out to Monterey Park for grocery shopping tho I still do head out there once a month or so. Anyway I love the snacks that they carry too and I always get large packs of Maxim Gold coffee packets.. it's so addictive! It is good coffee! F-ing good. They must put crack in it because I've gotten all my friends addicted to it! hahaha!!!! They also have a great little Asian bakery inside the market were I always pick up a bun or so on the way out. I basically head over here when I have a Korean food hankering. By the way parking is free.
1. korean markets have cheaper produce than american markets.
2. galleria has the freshest selection of produce and the widest selection of banchan(side dishes)
these are the two lessons that my mom taught me i moved out of the house. she would know. she's the must frugal ajumma(korean woman) out there. and though i hate to admit it, she was right.
galleria is my favorite market in ktown because its affordable, fresh, and clean. all the other markets in the area do not have all three qualities. assi market, which is closer to my apt, is fresh and affordable, but not as clean. their selection isnt as wide either. korean town plaza market is expensive. and gaju market (california market?) does not carry the freshest stuff.

There must be something about cold weather that leaves me a-hankerin' for some spicy korean sustenance. But who wants to fork over restaurant prices more than once or twice a week?
So lately I've been frequently popping into the Galleria Market. This grocery store features a massive, comprehensive selection. The produce section is bomb diggity, and the fresh and frozen protein departments are clean, appetizing, and odor-free. There's an entire aisle dedicated to seaweed and dried fish. Yum!
If you don't speak or read korean (like me), never fear! The items are clearly marked in english for us blancos.
While there, I load up on: cooked white rice (free!), organic red leaf lettuce (50 cents a head!), TONS of seasoned roasted seaweed, those deliciously MSGed dried anchovies, peeled garlic cloves, sliced pork belly or beef brisket, roasted sesame oil, and Galleria seasoned doenjang ($2.95 for a huge tub).
Then I head home, throw the meat on the skillet, slice up some raw garlic, and we're talking salty, spicy ssambap, family style.

Whether you need a new pair of sunglasses or want an array of different korean dishes, this is the place to get it at. With a full korean market and bakery on the side on the ground level, this plaza is filled with tiny boutiques to meet all of your shopping needs.
My mom and I come here occasionally for lunch and grocery shopping. We love how we can enjoy lunch on the 3rd floor, stop by the beauty supply store on the 2nd, and buy whatever else we need at the market. one stop shopping!
It's clean, it's convenient. what more can you ask for?

I hate going to the crappy K-markets. I get angry after I come out of them.
A trip to Galleria Market however is like coming back from Shangri-la.
There's ample parking. The place is amazingly pristine. It doesn't smell all funky. The selection of food and sundries are staggering- from the best organic produce at low low prices, a great selection of Japanese beauty products, deli food that doesn't have that "made with feet" aura, to the natural food stall that sells the best shredded squid jerky on the planet- Zepeed.
A weekly trip to this market is a must.

What I look for in a supermarket..
1) Cleanliness.
2) PARKING!! haha
3) Freshness.
4) Variety.
5) Things to make my life easier.
6) Adventure & for lack of a better word.. le exotique.
Needless to say, Galleria Market has all these things I look for.. & more!
This place is cleaner than most Korean supermarkets and there are no offensive smells.
This place has a parking structure and parking is free.
The produce is.. green and.. wet (I like when produce is wet for some odd reason.), fruits are all juicy and dewy looking. Meat looks nice. Seafood looks scrumptious, and the banchan deli area is soooo tempting. Mmmm.
As much as I love to cook, I don't have a lot of time to do it anymore really, so I just stock up on the ready-to-cook pre-marinated meats and throw them in the freezer. Hungry?? Defrost. Throw in pan (or grill). Eat.. Simple & goooooooood. I love stuff like this because I feel like someone, somewhere is rooting for me and wants to make my life a little less stressful.. Thanks, whoever that person is!
Lastly, I love trying new foods so this place has some interesting foods that I will try in the future. Like silkworm pupas. or pond snail risotto. Seriously, I live for that.
ohh, and they have IIIIIIICEEEEEEE CRRRREAAAAAAAAAMMMMMM!!! YAY!

This is what I like about living in the city. Easy access to a giant Korean supermarket with my kind of hours. Open 0700 to midnight 365 days/year.
The parking lot is well-lit, plenty of spaces, the produce section (which is increasingly organic) is fresh & clean, well stocked. You'll find in the produce section that the plastic bags are tough, extra large sized & open easily. For a vegetarian like myself, that is eliminating half the battle!
Here are some of my favorite items. In the freezer case are vegetable dumplings that have the words PULMONE on the top left corner. They are triangle shaped & are so good. I put them on a heavy duty paper plate, add some water, cover it with another paper plate & microwave for a couple minutes. Just be careful when you open the top paper plate, wouldn't want you to get burned, as the steam is mighty hot. Fantastic fast veggie food that comes very close to the "steamed" texture I like.
In the fall they carry freeze dried persimmons also in the freezer section. I eat them like candy. Chewy, bright orange & sweet.
I also eat the seasoned roasted seaweed like it's potato chips. Another friend told me "you eat that like it's caviar". Wonderfully lightweight, I enjoy putting it in my lunchbox for work.
The produce section is incomparable. Consistently low prices, freshly stocked with seasonal items not found elsewhere. Numerous kinds of mushrooms, greens & new fruits for me to taste.
Last night I splurged & bought a $3.47 Korean pear. They have the most exquisite eye popping pears which I've found last for eons in the fridge. They never seem to go bad. Very refreshing.
They even have organic persimmons. Since I grew up with a persimmon tree in the yard strangely I don't like them fresh, only freeze dried or dried.
I get a kick of the specialty items I find here. From miniature nail art decals to last night's $2.00 dvd. I had wandered into the video section of the store. I asked the cashier "do you have any English subtitles"? She replied, "just one", & said "it's a comedy-romance, you'll like it". She tried to come up with a title, however all she could say was it's called Beautiful People. It's about a pretty lady, who has a boyfriend, then gains some weight. It looks like a homemade copy, no wonder they sell it for $2.00 I just hope the picture quality & sound are decent.
Update: The Korean video was in subtitles alright (Korean characters), so I didn't understand what was said. It was a comedy called, "200 lb. beauty". Thank goodness it was funny enough to make me laugh. Really, it was about a 200# woman who lost about 100# ! Finally, I found the plot in English on Wikipedia.

The K-Town Galleria Market is awesome. It's the bottom floor of the three-story Koreatown Galleria. My dad and I explored it today. They have amazingly good produce for great prices. Today at lunch they were sampling several different foods - a special type of ramen, some pears, coffee, soymilk. YUM. I picked up some rice wine, plum wine, and some fruits and veggies which are SO much cheaper here than at Ralphs. The place is HUGE and it's clean... major props for the cleanliness.

This is a great place if you want to get fresh produce or Korean goods. Vendors sell pickled vegetables to accompany rice. Stews and sauces are also sold. Pre-packaged foods such as bibimbap can also be bought.
I go to buy Korean goods that aren't sold elsewhere like kimchi (of course), potato noodles, specific spices, etc. The frozen food section is a great time saver for future meals with frozen dumplings, pork-filled buns, etc.

I love Galleria Market. There is a pretty awesome food court to have lunch in prior to getting my grocery shopping done. I love the produce section. There is always some kind of sale going on so I can stock up on vegetables. Much cheaper when compared to Ralph's. The pre-made food is great. There is soon-dae, juk bal, al-bap, den jang jigae and many other things. The kim chee counter is extensive, I always get the oysters, they are salty, spicy and slimy goodness that goes well with rice. This place is a great option for me when I want to cook and when I do not want to cook.

i'm not korean, but i sure like my handbags like i am one though! oh snap! galleria is a great place to purse watch, but i digress....
anyways, a friend introduced me to this market awhile back and i've been going here ever since. i like that a few of my favorite snacks are concentrated at this market so it's a one stop shop for me when i get these particular cravings...such as: laver (toasted seaweed that you eat with rice. i like a particular brand), bravo ice cream drumsticks (so damn good), myulchi bokeum (little fishies cooked in sugary-salty goodness), and chocolate cake wheels. YUM!
the market is clean and well organized and i like the fact that they have a parking structure for convenient shopping. i think the produce is fresh, but a bit on the pricier side so i tend not to buy fresh produce there. they also have a great self serve condiment section. it is a nice market to visit once in a while, but it's definitely not my main "go-to" grocery store. ralphs will always be my baby, trader joe's is my mistress, and galleria market is my occasional fling.
the hottest moms shop here. that is all!

One of the cleaner and better Korean markets in L.A. There are stores on the upper levels where you can shop and a food court with a diverse selection of Korean and non-Korean food. I was also pleasantly surprised recently by the great customer service this place had.
