okay, so I think this is the best korean market in LA b/c it "looks" the cleanest and their produce seems to be the freshest.
They have the best banchan selection as well.
i'm not korean, but i sure like my handbags like i am one though! oh snap! galleria is a great place to purse watch, but i digress....
anyways, a friend introduced me to this market awhile back and i've been going here ever since. i like that a few of my favorite snacks are concentrated at this market so it's a one stop shop for me when i get these particular cravings...such as: laver (toasted seaweed that you eat with rice. i like a particular brand), bravo ice cream drumsticks (so damn good), myulchi bokeum (little fishies cooked in sugary-salty goodness), and chocolate cake wheels. YUM!
the market is clean and well organized and i like the fact that they have a parking structure for convenient shopping. i think the produce is fresh, but a bit on the pricier side so i tend not to buy fresh produce there. they also have a great self serve condiment section. it is a nice market to visit once in a while, but it's definitely not my main "go-to" grocery store. ralphs will always be my baby, trader joe's is my mistress, and galleria market is my occasional fling.
Galleria teaches a good lesson in lie versus lay
Correct: I had lain in bed all day thinking how I miss Galleria Market's food court. Boy, I could really use some sauteed rice cakes; I love it how the food service lady perfectly lays the boiled eggs around the dish to complement the rice cakes and vegetables.
Incorrect: I want to lay by the produce section because it was so refreshing. "If I do it first, would you lay with me?"
The 3 tenses of lay
I wanted to lay down the pickled radish because it was so cold.
I laid the red bean pancakes near the right side of the cart to keep it warm.
I had laid down my udon bowl so that I could order some seared ahi.
The 3 tenses of lie
I wanted to lie down near the oxtail soup stand because it smelled so good.
I lay in the parking lot, checking out the hot security guard.
I had lain in bed because I was love struck by the hot security guard.
If ever you go to the beach and your friends say, "Hey, let's lay over there!", tell them you do not want to have sex with them. They'll look at you funny but you'll have the last laugh, you damn lay-versus-lie Nazi.

Don't go there on a weekend. Parking is a joke. Very crowded. Any other days are ok. Bit pricey though, I did have a problem with the fish section. I told hime fillet but he chopped it up like I was going to use it as a soup. Other than that I like it.
Minimal organization that would be annoying at Ralphs is somehow quirky and precious because everything is in Korean. That said, brass tacks:
1. Plenty of free and easy parking.
2. An inexhaustible supply of lychee candy.
And it's conveniently located to all the K-town favs. Stop in after filling up at Manna, if you are able to climb out of the car.

This is the BEST Korean (might as well make it "Asian") market I've been to, that hasn't been in Korea!!
If you're Korean and from the SF Bay Area, it is known by many that LA really kicks our ass in Korean food. Sure, I've been to some pretty crappy and not-so-great places; but when I'm K-town it feels like I'm in Korea.. only it's better because it's in America! There's a Galleria near my area in the bay.. but this Galleria is bigger, cleaner, better stocked, and has better tasting prepared foods. I usually like to stock up on all sorts of junk food at Korean markets. Here, spending $70 on candy, chips, crackers, drinks, and prepared foods looks (and is) so easy.
I really do appreciate the fact that there's garage attached to the building with easy access to the market. Oh yeah, and this market is open until MIDNIGHT EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR. Amazing.

What I look for in a supermarket..
1) Cleanliness.
2) PARKING!! haha
3) Freshness.
4) Variety.
5) Things to make my life easier.
6) Adventure & for lack of a better word.. le exotique.
Needless to say, Galleria Market has all these things I look for.. & more!
This place is cleaner than most Korean supermarkets and there are no offensive smells.
This place has a parking structure and parking is free.
The produce is.. green and.. wet (I like when produce is wet for some odd reason.), fruits are all juicy and dewy looking. Meat looks nice. Seafood looks scrumptious, and the banchan deli area is soooo tempting. Mmmm.
As much as I love to cook, I don't have a lot of time to do it anymore really, so I just stock up on the ready-to-cook pre-marinated meats and throw them in the freezer. Hungry?? Defrost. Throw in pan (or grill). Eat.. Simple & goooooooood. I love stuff like this because I feel like someone, somewhere is rooting for me and wants to make my life a little less stressful.. Thanks, whoever that person is!
Lastly, I love trying new foods so this place has some interesting foods that I will try in the future. Like silkworm pupas. or pond snail risotto. Seriously, I live for that.
ohh, and they have IIIIIIICEEEEEEE CRRRREAAAAAAAAAMMMMMM!!! YAY!

Went here yesterday. Wow!!!! It seems so cheap here. I saw lots of things to buy, but only came with a friend. I did buy some meat. I cooked it tonight. Very good. I would love to come back here, but not on a holiday. Way to many people.

There must be something about cold weather that leaves me a-hankerin' for some spicy korean sustenance. But who wants to fork over restaurant prices more than once or twice a week?
So lately I've been frequently popping into the Galleria Market. This grocery store features a massive, comprehensive selection. The produce section is bomb diggity, and the fresh and frozen protein departments are clean, appetizing, and odor-free. There's an entire aisle dedicated to seaweed and dried fish. Yum!
If you don't speak or read korean (like me), never fear! The items are clearly marked in english for us blancos.
While there, I load up on: cooked white rice (free!), organic red leaf lettuce (50 cents a head!), TONS of seasoned roasted seaweed, those deliciously MSGed dried anchovies, peeled garlic cloves, sliced pork belly or beef brisket, roasted sesame oil, and Galleria seasoned doenjang ($2.95 for a huge tub).
Then I head home, throw the meat on the skillet, slice up some raw garlic, and we're talking salty, spicy ssambap, family style.

This is what I like about living in the city. Easy access to a giant Korean supermarket with my kind of hours. Open 0700 to midnight 365 days/year.
The parking lot is well-lit, plenty of spaces, the produce section (which is increasingly organic) is fresh & clean, well stocked. You'll find in the produce section that the plastic bags are tough, extra large sized & open easily. For a vegetarian like myself, that can eliminate half the battle!
The usual items I stock up on are frozen veggie dumplings, freeze dried persimmons & seasoned roasted seaweed. I've been accused of eating the latter like it's potato chips. Another friend told me "you eat that like it's caviar".
The produce section is incomparable. Consistently low prices, freshly stocked with seasonal items not found elsewhere. Numerous kinds of mushrooms, greens & new fruits for me to taste.
Last night I splurged & bought a $3.47 Korean pear. They They have the most exquisite eye popping pears which I've found last for eons in the fridge.
They even have organic persimmons. Since I grew up with a persimmon tree in the yard strangely I don't like them fresh, only freeze dried or dried.
I get a kick of the specialty items I find here. From miniature nail art decals to last night's $2.00 dvd. I had wandered into the video section of the store. I asked the cashier "do you have any English subtitles"? She replied, "just one", & said "it's a comedy-romance, you'll like it". She tried to come up with a title, however all she could say was it's called Beautiful People. It's about a pretty lady, who has a boyfriend, then gains some weight. It looks like a homemade copy, no wonder they sell it for $2.00 I just hope the picture quality & sound are decent.
Update: The Korean video was in subtitles alright (Korean characters), so I didn't understand what was said. It was a comedy called, "200 lb. beauty". Thank goodness it was funny enough to make me laugh. Really, it was about a 200# woman who lost about 100# ! Finally, I found the plot in English on Wikipedia.

I hate going to the crappy K-markets. I get angry after I come out of them.
A trip to Galleria Market however is like coming back from Shangri-la.
There's ample parking. The place is amazingly pristine. It doesn't smell all funky. The selection of food and sundries are staggering- from the best organic produce at low low prices, a great selection of Japanese beauty products, deli food that doesn't have that "made with feet" aura, to the natural food stall that sells the best shredded squid jerky on the planet- Zepeed.
A weekly trip to this market is a must.

Everything Korean can be purchased at this market. If you're not a cook there's a great food court upstairs.

i can get any thing i want in there hehe
Whether you need a new pair of sunglasses or want an array of different korean dishes, this is the place to get it at. With a full korean market and bakery on the side on the ground level, this plaza is filled with tiny boutiques to meet all of your shopping needs.
My mom and I come here occasionally for lunch and grocery shopping. We love how we can enjoy lunch on the 3rd floor, stop by the beauty supply store on the 2nd, and buy whatever else we need at the market. one stop shopping!
It's clean, it's convenient. what more can you ask for?

One of the cleaner and better Korean markets in L.A. There are stores on the upper levels where you can shop and a food court with a diverse selection of Korean and non-Korean food. I was also pleasantly surprised recently by the great customer service this place had.

This is a great place if you want to get fresh produce or Korean goods. Vendors sell pickled vegetables to accompany rice. Stews and sauces are also sold. Pre-packaged foods such as bibimbap can also be bought.
I go to buy Korean goods that aren't sold elsewhere like kimchi (of course), potato noodles, specific spices, etc. The frozen food section is a great time saver for future meals with frozen dumplings, pork-filled buns, etc.
