I was stuck at Newark late (9.30p) and wanted to grab a quick soup before the next flight...and the only soup i could find in the entire airport- was at this steakhouse

I had the Oxtail Soup, which was very yummy, esp for airport food.
they were super speedy, esp when i told them i was in a hurry

The meat fell right off the bone, it was flavorful and not super exp- $8 for a big bowl

I'll be back for a real piece of steak

Knowing that we'd have a long layover in Newark, my travel companion had already made up his mind that we had to come here. To start, the hosts were entirely unprofessional and yelling across portions of the restaurant to each other. The server appeared annoyed when I just ordered a water (I was dehydrated and thirsty!).

The food itself was quite good. My friend had their burger and I had their steak sandwich. The steak sandwich was a good size portion, but not exactly what I expected. The meat was carved like roast beef. I was craving steak texture and ended up with what looked like a roast beef sandwich. Thankfully, it was exceptionally good. Half the fries it came with were semi-burnt although the other half were phenomenal. Gallagher's uses coarse salt rather than table salt on their fries and it really sets off the flavor.

Throughout the meal, the service was perfunctory and it seemed like the server was almost doing us a favor by waiting on us. Second, the table behind us grew upset that they had automatic gratuity pegged on their table of two. The travelers felt it was because they were foreigners and definetly raised a ruckus over the matter. Ironically, the bill for our table of two (Americans) lacked auto gratuity. Hmph?

The food is good, but missing on little things. Like the burnt fries. Second, the service isn't up to par with the prices.

Really nice to have a sit down meal when you are stuck in the airport. When my flight was delayed 3 hours, the steak dinner was a treat! I like my steak medium rare, and they overcooked it a bit for me... however I was tired and didn't want to send it back. My colleague and myself each had a fillet and we shared a side or mashed potatoes and a side of asparagus. Sides are large and enough for two people. For dessert we had the apple brown betty. It tasted like freezer and wasn't good. Pass on this one.
For airport food it was GREAT! But like I said.... "for airport food."

sigh...stuck in an ny airport again. will gallagher's save the day???

well...food was decent. pricey but decent. i guess i've just come to expect a lot from a place that cooks a piece of red meat and charges big bucks. the service in this place was on point. my server was nice and had everything for me when i needed it. the food??? my med rare steak was ever so slightly over done. normally i wouldn't complain, but since it was a 40 something dollar steak...i kinda thought it should be about perfect. they don't do anything tricky or unique w/ the beef. which is fine w/ me if you cook it perfectly, but since they missed the mark on med rare i was a little disappointed. they won't do half orders of the ala carte sides, which blows...if you are eatin by yourself waitin for a delayed flight it means you can't eat something green and something starchy unless you wanna spend $60+ and have too much food to eat...sigh. hmmm...what else? the drinks were solid and they serve half bottles of wine which is always a plus for the solo traveler.

this place is probably the best dining to be had at the continental terminal of the newark airport. that being said...its overpriced and unless you are wealthy you're probably better off cruisin by some fast foodey joint. save your $$ for a romantic dinner in nyc for the same price. why splurge in an airport???
