this place rocks dude!!!the weekends are packed!!!Fun;Sundays chill,mon//tue-localS NIGHT with guitar hero,Thursday with reggae,,,,, ....ridiculous, love and groove are playing there a couple of times a month and there tropical tunes are the bomb
mot important thing i was there this evening......they had $3 U CALL IT ANY I MEAN ANY BEER from 6 to 7 and $3 well Mon to Friday!!!
DEAL OF THE CENTURY .. not including $3 bud and dos quis all day and night!!!!
Bar snacks worked i need munchies and the bartenders are SO Hot!! my girlfriend agrees!!!!!
I tried to narrow the bar down to a age range or who it would suit but it is good for everyone , i would advice you to check there calender out and see what night you'd personally like .i give this place $5 stars for sure work a try any night

Quite simply the best bar in Newport Avenue. Don't try and compare it to Bullfrog's as it wasn't in the same league. The bar decor is beautiful, there is a great young crowd, fantastic selection of alcohol and the staff are fun.
You can experience live music regularly with the pull out stage or just hang out during week for shuffleboard/darts.
With many big screens you can watch many sports too.
Food is not served yet but I believe that snacks are coming soon and the staff will let you bring take aways in to eat.
Another plus is the gorgeous waitresses with their mini kilts on.
So check it out.

Roger V. took the words right out of my mouth: I liked Bullfrogs, the divey little hole in the wall.

And as Roger wrote, Gallagher's beers are overpriced. Dear Gallagher, your place is on Newport in OB; stop trying to act high-class. Their draft beer special (written on the chalkboard outside) is very deceiving because it's only during happy hour and yet the board is still on the sidewalk at 9pm.

But they do have a modest selection of beers on tap including Ballast Point (woo hoo!). They have Yellowtail Pale (yum) and Calico Amber (yuck). I'm not a fan of any Amber beer.  

Only reason I keep coming back is because they have shuffleboard!! And, it's never packed (I've never been on a weekend)!!

We'll usually eat and drink someplace else on Newport then go to Gallagher's to play shuffleboard and sober up. Actually, who am I kidding, we drink more there to sustain the buzz =)

** To all those that reviewed Gallagher's, we all need to apologize to Marie M. because apparently our reviews are "crap" and OB is her town. So Marie, what makes an Irish bar a "real Irish bar?" Ha.

So I'll start off by saying I liked Bullfrogs.  There, I said it, I liked that dive bar.  So now Gallagher's is a totally different place, and that's cool, but what's not is that the drink prices are overpriced for the amount of alcohol you get and it seems just a bit pretentious for OB.

Oh yeah, and they had a pool table that was free when they opened, which was a huge plus, but now it's gone.  Gotta say that was a huge mistake and the cool fireplaces and seating don't make up for it.

If you're looking for a cool Irish Pub, check out The Harp, it's not as done up, but they serve good food and they have huge TVs to catch all of the games.  Go Padres!

am i in Ireland...????

truth be told i go here allot on off nights i don't like crowds
i want a good conversation or just  a quite pint  and watch the padres/red sox game with my friends

Irish pubs may be plentiful but good one's aren't, Irish bartenders are found here and even Irish patrons , I did not realize how deprived I was of sharing a drink and a good conversation until i came here and had such good fun.

Pros:
Clean, spacious,reasonable, nightly entertainment,shuffleboard,darts, its not a dive bar,good bartenders,guitar hero,good specials

Cons;
No food yet,gets busy on Fridays and Saturdays, crowded and allot of people dancing all over the place,too many hot door staff very distracting!!

There really isn't any cons about this place , it fits in to OB with local entertainment and just cool friendly people.
on the other reviews comparing to bullfrogs that's a great thing as most people are glad that place is gone!!!
They have all imports , and they change all the local beers allot so there's a great selection. Bottles beers are good too , they actually have a good oatmeal stout, If you don't drink they have good non alcoholic options.

I think this is a decent change for the ob scene. Ocean Beach needed a cool bar that you could party in. Its drinks are not pricey . I tried it out on a week day and on the weekend. Its very busy late night friday and saturday but quite during the week. Its got shuffleboard and guitar hero which is a laugh. No food,no smoking. .
The staff are cool, its got fire place and bands nightly so ts a good place to go if you dont get to party on weekends and you want a chill night during the week . Its cash and credit so no problems there

The best nights are probably the open mic or had a reggae nights.
It had full bar and some whiskeys i had never tried
I went thinking it was bar and grill so I checked out the pizza place next store too

wow, well  i certainly enjoyed this bar. I enjoyed the traditional Irish music .i lilked the other bands  too .I go there quite a bit since ive been introduced to it. the bar has so much to offer , it is the only irish bar in the area so its a welcome change , it brings more culture to the the already cool ob. its got a great club called the mug club which is for regulars that go there, my mug is proudly hanging on the bar. I drink alot of beer so i get cash off my beers as im a member.

its got so much to offer , check out all the events and music they have on a monthly basis. Right now im just counting down the days to their Saint Patricks 3 day festival they are having . they have hired little people to dress like leprechauns!!!! they have a non stop fetival , i think the non stop irish music and that saint patricks party will defiently put the bar out there, check it out and you wont be disappointed , i always sit at the bac booths!!!

I have never have encounter a better experience and night out than this whole weekend. I wanted to see what all the press was about in the bar about the 3 day saint Paddy's fest the bar was hosting. I went on Saturday with 4 friends and it was slammed!!!

They had  music, dancers freebies (bottle openers/pens/shirts/hats) bagpipers. I got great service and i  was glad that the bar didn't have ridiculous prices and covers just because its a Irish holiday which is typical around this time. so anyway after Saturday i figured i was going to make all 3 days of the festival to see if the bar held its standards
I was surprised
It just got better. they didn't have a kitchen but had corned beef and cabbage. it had punk Irish music similar to flogging molly on the Monday i was lucky to get in as there was a line for the whole evening. The pub and restaurant has been completely decorated by authentic furnishings imported.It had beautiful dark wood furnishings and brass accents create an authentic Irish pub ambiance... i don't know what else to say but it is now my local watering hole
oh and they had LEPRECHAUNS ..... (they hired little people for the whole weekend!!-crazy dude)
I look forward to seeing this new bar expand. the staff wear kilts and doormen are well dressed and loking sharp .
Note:negative you have to have a drivers licence and other forms of ids as Iwas questioned(andallmy friend) andi am 25.my id worked when i displayed a credit card

Gallagher's is the second best Irish pub this side of The Field. Sorry, but until someone topples the Field, they remain on top. One area that Gallaghers beats the field hands down though, the cutie waitresses. Gotta give my homegirl Regina a shout! The fly spicy PuertoRican waitress with the bronx accent is a bubbly Rey of sunshine, and the other girls are easy eye candy.

Drinks are good, good beers on tap but they can do a bit better and im sure will, decent pitcher prices, and you can play Guitar hero! Also, they have DJ's, reggae bands, etc. AND its in OB. you can roll in super Inhebriated and its all within your element,

do it, peep it, gallaghers son!

Ive GOT to give this bar 5 stars with its sassy Irish themed cocktail servers and bartenders , a unbelievable Irish whiskey selection and a arrayed cold tap beer, gallaghers sure to rise to the top of your list spring 2008!!!if you havent been there yet go, the best nights depend on what youre into, if you want  irish pub, guitar hero reggae or dj , they designate different nights to different types of music.
its the only authentic Irish bar located on the Newport strip. When you walk in, you're greeted by a warm fireplace and inviting atmosphere to match. it has crests all over the walls, paired with imported Irish wood, and memorabilia. While traditional , its up to date with amenities, offering ten plasma TVs, four mini flat DH screens in booths, free shuffle board tables, free dart games, free Guitar Hero battles on Monday nights, .  You don't just stop by for a drink - you stay all night and hang out with the Gallaghers' girls and local Ocean Beach regulars.
its one of the safer bars with cool ass doormen who arent dusebags.the prices are good, toilets are clean, its the bomb!!!toast it up irish style anyday in this pub!!!
this is the most ricking place in san diego

Friday & Saturday nights simply go off at this spot in OB.  Definitely Check out a show with the east coasts, DJ CC , (gallaghers resident dj) playing the best in real old school undergound hip hop/ reggae and interactive beats all night. Sometimes he interacts with the bands, scraches, drops samples and freestyles too, making for a super fun night. The bartenders are cool & pour heavy & specials are good.  Check out late the crazy late night party with dj cc, new plasma screen tvs everywhere, specials and atmosphere are worth the trip all day....This is the only place in Ocean Beach & as far as ive seen, San Diego for that matter where u will find real authentic east coast old school/ underground hip hop.

I think the bar is really good. I have a shuffle board tourney which I play in the bar with all my friends
Best night is probably the night that the Brazilian band play and the place is full of great lukin girls!!!!!

My friends and I wandered into the bar after gorging on burgers at Hodad's and were pleasantly surprised.  It's really clean and spacious, they even have a few fire places around the bar.  My favorite part is the fact that they had shuffleboard!  We went on a Monday night, so it was dead, but that's fine by me, nice and empty so we can get our game on.  

The bathrooms are also extremely nice/ clean for bar standards.

Hey yelpers I am back in town and have two weeks off, work and travel get in the ways sometimes.  Do not ever grow up and be responsible.  Got off the plane and took a cab to Newport to see what was going on.  As allways Jason Ott was playing and I was pleased to catch up with friends.  Excited to hear the Hip Replacements are playing tomorrow night.   It is good to be home.  Looking forward to Cinco De Mayo, I was going to go downtown, but a local night in OB sounds better.  The bartenders told me they were going to have great specials, and cater to the regulars, instead of all the amatuers.  For those that know me see you tomorrow.  If I do not know you grab a pint and say hello.

This place just opened where Bullfrog's used to be. Bullfrog's...it's no longer a part of OB.

Gallagher's: This is going to be the eternal sausage fest in OB. It is a wannabe Vegas/Irish themed fun bar....or something. It has a TON of space and it looks 100% better, but there is ZERO personality to this place.

The cocktail waitresses are dressed in slutty little kilts and knee-high socks. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's only going to draw Squids and Jar Heads on leave. There is plenty of room in the back by the one lowly pool table (which is a Bullfrog original), for them all to fight amongst themselves.

Finally, it is the only bar in OB (aside from the late AZ) that the door guy didn't check ID's.

My prediction: One good month, then sausage, then the ABC shuts them down.
