Gadabout Salon Spas
3 reviews for Gadabout Salon Spas
The lobby is not immediately by the entrance. The check-in counter is placed right in front of the doors, the sitting area is a few steps further. There are two big orange circle couches with back rests and two smaller circle couches with no back rests. They have coffee and watermelon water (typical spa cucumber water with a spin) as well as regular water for the less adventurous.
Gadabout is separated into two main areas: a loud haircut room and a more quiet "spa" area. The hair area looks like a fancy super cuts, with a sectioned off sink area and a large open room packed with counters for each hair dresser. The difference between this and super cuts are the outfits worn (at Gadabout everyone wears black) and the prices. And hopefully the quality of haircut, but I've never had my hair done here.
The "spa" area is separated by doors and the inside is much more peaceful. There is a hallway with rooms off to each side. This is where spa treatments take place. My eyebrows get waxed off monthly in a small room while I lay down and divulge every aspect of my life to Krista, the best Tucson eyebrow wax girl around. I definitely recommend her to anyone who wants to keep their eyebrows.
One reviewer (who had gone to the River Rd location, see their review)
used the term "bait and switch". Well...you be the judge, we booked a "wedding package" and when we called the day before to confirm, the price had gone up, huh? It was also supposed to include a tip, so why was I asked if I wanted to leave a tip when I was paying?
When the stylist was finished with my hair, it looked like I had done it myself, badly, and without a mirror. The curls did not stay curled and the back (an "updo" ) was a mess. They had another stylist fix it, because I was not happy, and we were 45 minutes late for dressing for the wedding.
The stylist who did the bride's hair burned her forehead with the curling iron and they still charged full price, also asking "do you want to leave a tip". We paid and left so as not to make a fuss, the bride was already late and nervous.
Those are just the facts.
I hope other bridal parties have better luck than we did. Don't settle for
anything less than what you want on your wedding day.
We are so unhappy with the salon, none of us will go back.
Damn you, gift certificate-givers who got me spoiled on fancy haircuts. I better get a good haircut for $55, is all I'm sayin'. I'm used to cutting my own hair with a 99 cent store razor comb.
Miranda is la bomba and really does a bit extra compared to other stylists at this location; she gives the most psychotic scalp and neck massage during the shampoo (if you're lucky enough to not have an assistant do the washing) and her cuts grow in perfectly and last for months and months, therefore sort of justifying the exorbitant cost. She is up on all the latest tools and styles and trains everyone who does haircuts at Gadabout, so she's basically the President of Cuts in Tuc Town.
I'd tried one other stylist there first and she was surly; I don't need forced conversation, but at least be pleasant before you take my money. Due to a reception desk mix-up I ended up with Miranda and I am forever grateful. I will continue to go to Gadabout as long as the annual gift certificates keep on coming. I couldn't justify spending so much of my own money here, though.
