My favorite furniture store. It's nice walking from Future Prefect or A&G to here. I love the old furniture. The price is a little steep (for me, at least.. but this is the first time I've furnished an apartment without the help of Ikea and Target). I got two sidetables (from the early 1900's, I think. Like I know.) for about $800. And if I had any less self control, I'd have a bench (probably going to lose that self control tomorrow and gain a bench), a box, and some pillows. I think I can safely say that I could always find something to buy in here.
It's supposed to be Asian-influenced, but that definition stretches far, basically encompassing anything that's made with Asian-ish materials like lacquer or has the lines of Asian furniture. It's a smallish shop but they manage to fit a good selection of mainly tables and sofas and decor (candles, napkins). You feel immediately relaxed and happy when you walk in. It smells good in here. The prices are good and the staff can hide a bit behind the counter, but they are very nice.
For an eclectic selection of home and personal accessories, from Asian antiques to Eames swivel chairs to unusually affordable candles and these crazy leather/snakeskin vintage purses by Maxine Rene Clement (a find of Carrie Donovan's way back when), get thee to Golden Calf. Proprietors/curators Natalie and Dennis are constantly bringing in new and interesting things to throw into their retro/modern/maximal/minimal mix. Last time I was in I snagged two vintage red desk lamps that had just been brought in that morning from a woodshop that was closing up. Snap!

MY FAVORITE STORE IN BROOKLYN - a beautiful combination of modern pieces with antique and modern Asian pieces thrown in. They have one of the better selections in classic Chinese Cabinetry work that I have seen - ranging from the classic red lacquer finish to more updated pieces. They also carry a beautiful range of tapered candles that makes you want to fill every empty spot of your home in one of the beautiful shades they have on offer.
I am in LOVE with this place!
