Review Highlights
I really enjoy sitting out on Fuzzy's patio area with friends and sipping on an ice cold margarita... other than that I've never really taken too much to Fuzzy's but I don't really think it's their fault.
I do like the tacos the feta or queso fresco is good and I love the seafood enchiladas. I am not a fan of the queso. I have tried that queso so many times to get myself to like it and I just can't like it. (For good queso see Fresco's).
Some things I enjoy, some I don't. Either I way just find myself eating a Red Cactus across the street instead. I know FW I've let you down!
Meh.
Open crazy late, but....
I never got what all they hype is about this place.
(That statement (and 2 star rating) applies to all faucets of this restaurant in general).
Do yourself a favor & go somewhere else.....
Unless nothing else is open (hence the +1 star for being open really late)... in which case I don't blame you for coming here because everythingin Fort Worth closes at like 6pm..
(Not literally.. HA!)
I've been a Fuzzy's fan for years. A great Tex-Mex place? Probably not, but beans and rice can be had anywhere; you go here for the original dishes.
Counter service only with a menu that has a wide selection of Mexi-style offerings. Stay away from the traditional Tex-Mex dishes and a la carte yourself a couple of items. Had the tempura fish burrito and a shredded pork soft taco. The taco is a few bites of garlicky meat with pico, feta and a creamy aioli. The burritos are packed with fresh veg, pico, cheese, a little guacamole and crispy fried fish bites, much lighter than other Mexi-burrito places. Both are original and make you crave more, especially doused with the house hot sauce found on every table.
Now the negatives, which I confess to overlooking in my eval. The "Mexican" food here is rather blah, so much so I don't even consider this a Tex-Mex restaurant -- go elsewhere if you want enchiladas. The place is right next to the TCU campus, so it can be massively crowded when school is in session. Parking is well nigh impossible and tow-zones abound year-round, so be careful.
Fuzzy's has amazing fish tacos. Way better than Wahoo's fish tacos. Fuzzy's is a great college hangout spot.
I think tex-mex is kinda gross. I guess maybe I'm just used to mex-mex? But everything at Fuzzy's is super yummy.
The bean and cheese burrito's are amazing, and the shrimp taco's are super good too. But the absolute best thing ever is the queso dip. Ohhhh myy godd soo good! Seriously, I love cheese.
I've been coming here for the past several years with my TCU buddies after football games and working out at the TCU gym. I've gotten the fish tacos or the shrimp each and every time and have been satisfied. The prices are very reasonable and doesn't seem to have increased over the years. My only complaint is that they have always screwed up someones order within our group. This has never failed! I'm not certain if this has to do with the person taking the orders or the person cooking. Someone within our group will always sit there watching us eat as the cook remakes their order. I'm just happy that it hasn't been my turn yet!
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this place. There, I done and said it.
The breakfast taco (um, simple) Potato, Egg and Cheese, was so deliciously fresh and great portion size. I was full by the time I was 3/4 finished with it and I basically told myself..."must keep eating, must finish yumminess." Their re-fried beans are delicious and so much of it comes a la carte that you can get a bunch of stuff at cheap prices for take out or parties or anything!
I've also had their garlic beef (in taco's, salads...burritos...ok ok) random you say. I think NOT! I think you should stop reading this and go try everything on their menu....you can thank me later. I'll be around.
Till next time...
Incredibly over-rated. I haven't lived in Fort Worth for 6 years now, but all my friends and family have been raving about Fuzzy's. I kept missing it the last several trips - so I made a point to go there my last trip home. Color me unimpressed.
I had a little bit of everything. The fish taco was the best of the bunch, but considering I live in California now - it doesn't come close to the real thing out here.
The chicken taco was probably the worst taco I've ever had in my life. Dear Fuzzy's: GRILL your chicken and serve it in chunks. The food processor-beaten chicken was awful. It tasted like I was eating flavored styrofoam particles. Gross. The pork taco was okay, but nothing to get excited about. I've had much better in FW...and actually, I make a more flavorful pork.
The guacamole was even underwhelming - lacked spice and flavor.
I don't know what all the hype is about. There are plenty of other good Tex-Mex or Mexican choices in Fort Worth. I think it's just one of those word-of-mouth fads.
Sorry fellow Fort Worthians, I disagree with you on this one.
Fuzzy's is one of those places that's deceptively good. The location is nothing special and their menu isn't very extensive, but when you take a bite of a tempura shrimp/fish taco, you know why everyone always talks about Fuzzy's. The queso is also really good. I've even tried the tempura shrimp salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. The chicken is shredded, so that keeps me away from it, but the fish and shrimp are perfection. This is a great place to grab some tacos.
The name Fuzzys may refer to all the people in there who probably are a little fuzzy from living the college life. This place is packed with the college crowd be prepared for a few rowdy folks.
Now to the food, well what can i say, the food is OK. the place is not very clean and the people that are serving you look the same. It's fun to go to when you're in the mood for some cheap food and a margarita i suppose. if you're in the building get yourself a little queso to start off with the chips that have good seasoning on them. It will be a tasty snack. When I go i get the taco salad, which is pretty good, and i guess something a little healthier.
Just a heads up beware of the food making you a little sick. It happens almost every time to everyone i know, coincidence, i think not.
I had my first taste of Fuzzy's yesterday and I ordered a tempura fish taco,
I wasn't super hungry otherwise I would of gotten more. I prefer the Baja fish taco at On the Border. I did enjoy the fresh toppings.
I don't know why people are so into Fuzzy's Tacos. I go to TCU, and I understand it's a TCU staple and everything... it's just not very good.
The tacos are no good. They're dry and lack flavor.
The quesadillas are no good. How do you mess up a quesadilla?
The queso is edible -- and unlike any other queso I've had in Fort Worth -- but it doesn't come close to making up for all of the other let downs.
Wine-based margaritas? Need I say more?
Perfect queso, cheap scooners of beer, neighborhood dive feel, loud music, TVs everywhere, butt burnin' sauce on the tables and great prices... Can't ask for much more.
I went to TCU so my relationship with Fuzzy's has spanned a better part of a decade now. I saw it through a change in ownership and an expansion and much improvement. My first few visits it was synonymous with "scary" and "night on the toilet" but with the change in ownership came taco heaven. The queso is easily the best queso in DFW. White cheese, pico, shredded cheddar and monteray jack on top. The enchiladas are amazing as are any variety of taco. The refried beans have feta sprinkled on top and the rice is graced with peas and tomatoes. The beers are cheap, huge and freezing, but steer clear of the wine based margaritas. (Leave you with a killer hang over.)
Park yourself on one of the few outdoor seats on any given Friday or Saturday (or Thursday or Tuesday) evening for some quality people watching, drunk TCU kids on their way to the Aardvark or The Moon.
I'm sure you've heard plenty about Fuzzy's but here are a few key things:
1. Don't go here expecting a great burrito. I can't explain why, but the warm ingredients of a burrito just doesn't work with Fuzzy's.
2. If you haven't had the tacos or the nachos, you haven't been.
3. Absurdly cheap Shiner Bock.
4. Fish or shrimp tempura tacos, crispy or soft, either way. If you don't like any of em, you don't like life.
5. They now open at 7 am, so if you're in the area it's a really great huge breakfast burrito and it's nice and quiet in the morning.
Final Plea: Even on my 40th walk (or stumble) into Fuzzy's it still makes me smile when I taste how fresh the ingredients on the tacos are. Cilantro, lettuce, tomato - what could be better? They're generous with everything and the Butt burnin sauce is aptly named deliciousness. You just have to know what to order.
Fuzzy's was a great late-night spot when I went to TCU. Good Mexican food, cheap draft beer. The tacos, enchiladas, and nachos were all good. The food came out quick enough.
It is a popular late not spot though, and that means drunken idiots. So just be prepared for that.
If I go back to Fort Worth, Fuzzy's isn't high on my priority list of places to eat, but it's still on there somewhere.
We went to Fuzzy's for lunch yesterday, and it was okay. I had a honkin' chicken burrito, and was underwhelmed with the chicken - didn't have much going on. The pico and guacamole definitely made up for what was lacking in the chicken department.
I really, really liked the queso! I am not a huge fan of paprika on my tortilla chips, but the paprika seemed to compliment the queso. The chips were light and crispy. The queso was crazy gooey, with mostly white cheese. There's also some other good stuff, like scallions, peppers and other stuff in there, too. It rocked!
Now, if they could just give some love to that chicken flavor...
Feta cheese! Great idea! I love how much cilantro they use! So glad they built one in Denton!
If you want to order beer with (or for!) your breakfast, this is the place to do it. No one cares if you order cerveza with your huevos right after church. Now that I am "Old Balls" (over 35) as the college kids say, my days of eating dinner at 2am are over. Now I just drink at 10 am when they open and get a beer buzz and go BACK to bed by noon! I told you I was hardocre.
The fish tacos are really, really good. Get a sampling of them: shredded garlic pork is my fav, but the fried fish ones are always well received. They aren't big, just the size of the small corn tortilla, so get at least two. I love their queso, too (I see their is a pic of it below), and their chips are dusted with a great seasoning. Beware of the habanero sauce: They aren't kidding. It is habanero. And yes, it is hot. Each too much and you'll see God.
I prefer to Fuzzy's on Race Street (off Hemphill?) b/c it has even more of an grungy urban feel to it (even though it is a remodled place). Plus, I love places that are cool (or don't care) about dogs on the patio.
Fuzzy's is my go-to place after a hard day of work. My best friend always knows whats up when she gets the 4 o'clock "Fuzzy's tonight"
text. It is great to just relax and let loose with friends and beer. Nestled right on the edge of the TCU campus, a neighborhood, and near the Trinity trail, it is a favorite for students, families, and runners and cyclists alike. Fuzzy's is a local favorite for a reason. Their specialty, the grilled fish tacos, are delicous. They are unique in that they have very fresh tasting ingredients and are light in comparison to other tacos.... but don't confuse this for small. This is a big taco. Light eaters can get by with one (of course I always opt for two!). I also need to mention that they come with feta cheese sprinkled on top. This is surprising on a taco, but it really adds something. I love me some feta! I recommend the queso as well. The chips are really thin and crisp and come with a special seasoning that they sprinkle all over them.
This place is super casual. I have even been there with a running group all sweaty post work out. Fuzzy's attracts all types and is super fun. They even have a juke box that adds a little somethin' to the atmosphere. The manner of ordering can be somewhat annoying if it is really crowded because you wait in line (occasionally out the door) and then if you have beers and such but no table it can be tough. Also, if you want to order anything else you have to start over at the end of the line and this sometimes deters me from getting that 2nd thought order of queso or guacamole. On the upside, there is a separate beer only line so that the beverages keep flowing, even if the queso doesn't.
Check it out if you are looking for something casual, cheap, and tasty. My meal of choice is grilled fish tacos, queso and a blue moon. Enjoy!
A must visit when I am back in Fort Worth. Fish tacos are great, but nothing beats Fuzzy's black bean soup. Great breakfast burritos with chorizo too. Atmosphere is college crazy with order numbers being shouted from the open kitchen, so don't expect a laid back, quiet meal.
I came here one night after playing cards with some friends. It wasn't that busy and we got our food right away. I always wanted to check this place out based solely on the name. And apparently they had amazing fish tacos...I was still skeptical about having a fuzzy fish taco...but my friend from TCU kept raving about them. I gave in and gave it a try, wow I must say I love diving right into those fuzzy fish tacos!!!
This place is complete busch league. Every time I go to Fuzzy's, I walk out mad at myself for not going down the street to Red Cactus. Atmosphere is pretty cool but its way too expensive and the food is never what I expect it to be. Fish tacos are one of the only good things, the queso sucks. All in all, Fort Worth just doesn't have the quality Mexican food that Houston does.
I think this taco joint is trying to be like one of those classic "taco" delis, but it has too much of a sit and order feel to it. The tacos aren't anything authentic, but they are some of the better ones you can get in Fort Worth, as they aren't really Tex Mex. Fish tacos are not bad here. Garlic shredded beef is really disappointing here though. It lacks any real distinctive flavor, and isn't served with anything creative. Overall, this is the best that Fort Worth has to offer in terms of a taco shop, but it just doesn't match up to anywhere in the Southern part of Texas.
Can be a little noisy at times but everything was enjoyable otherwise. The chicken soft tacos = fantastic! The queso is also delicious!
I must say, the veggie tacos are pretty good. It's a popular place on weekend nights and stays open a little after the bars close. You can get most of their items with the veggie option and the place is very consistent. If you don't mind the atmosphere or lack of service, good veggie tacos are a quick sit-down away.
I just want to say that fuzzy's taco here on berry st was great. the beer was way cold and the food well should have been more of it but the price was good. I really like mexican food that is HOT and the people don't really speak english. But if you wanna see some hot college girlz and have some really cold beer while eating a taco on berry st. where there are no bullets flying by, this is the place
Loved the "dive" atmosphere at Fuzzys! The tempura shrimp tacos ($1.99 each) were fresh and delicious, as was the sweet tea! Bought a t-shirt for good measure, to remember dining at such a fun restaurant. Tvs were on, by the way, so everyone could watch Tiger Woods play golf.
My Texan hosts highly recommended this place and while there are already a lot of taco joints in Chicago I've already tried, I agreed to go anyway and boy am I glad I did! Fuzzy's has the absolute best fish tacos I've ever had. I also had their ground beef taco and a few bites of their garlic shredded beef burrito. I seriously think the feta cheese they put in it may be what makes them so irresistable. Who would have thought to put feta on a taco!?!? Everything was flavorful and fresh and excellent. Their margaritas are ridiculously huge, like their nachos. Their nachos are also among the best I've ever tasted. Their staff is humorous and friendly. I will definitely be going back to Fuzzy's when I return to Fort Worth. Or if someone can convince the owners to open up another one in Chicago, that would be excellent, too.
Fuzzy's has small booths painted bright red, and a teenage clerk who kindly asked the age of my newborn nephew. They put feta on their tacos, which come in quite a variety of pleasing fillings--I had one roasted vegetable, one shredded pork, and one shredded garlic beef, all good. Because the nephew is not yet accustomed to dining out, we did not attempt to eat there, but ordered the food to bring home. Had we stayed, though, there was a nice place where we could have sat outside and watched the students from Texas Christian University, across the street, go by. All in all, an excellent institution to have a couple of blocks from one's house.
This finely named establishment rescued me from many a nasty hangover. The fish tacos are/were D-O-P-E, but I remember everything there being good.
I Loooooove Fuzzy's Tacos. But I must admit, I felt a little weird about going there the first time given that the name was Fuzzy's Tacos. hmmm....but this place ended up being one of my favorite college eateries. My parents also loved it when they came up to visit. I recommend the scooners of beer, I think they are fabulous and also pretty cheap. And how often to you get to drink beers out of scooners? The tacos are great, as are the burritos. Plenty of vegetarian choices too. And they are famous for their fish tacos. Seriously. I wish someone would open up a fuzzy's here in Austin, though I'm sure that's the last thing we desperately need is another awesome taco shop. Best of all, Fuzzy's is open until 3 am so it makes the perfect late night munch festery.
Divine tacos with feta on top. I got the garlic chicken and tempura fish. The tempura was so fluffy and perfect. The shredded chicken was delicious. Nice juicy tomatoes and fresh lettuce. You can order soft or hard shell tacos. We got the hard shell, and they were wonderful. We also shared some nachos, and despite my lack of enthusiasm for this Texas queso stuff, that plate was pretty damn good. Love the atmosphere, too. Booths are cramped, but that's just fine. It's right near campus, so the crowds are lively and loud. Great place to go watch a game and drink some beer, if you can get a seat.
