2 reviews for Funhouse the
I'm pretty sure this place was written up in Maxim, Stuff, or one of those man magazines as being a top dive bar in the country. It's a pretty relaxed place, although I would avoid it at all costs when it's crowded in the winter. In the summer they open the back, so there's a little room for overflow. This place is so narrow though, it's impossible to have a good time when it's crowded and there's a band playing.
The Funhouse was better in the 80's and 90's. Now it has been taken over by jam bands. The glory days of The Original Sins, Psychlone Rangers, and The Crack Babies have long since past. Now there are mostly jam bands who play uninspired, formulatic, solos. Also there seems to be a fascination with Funk which I just don't understand. There was a great band called the Teeth that played there for a while but they broke up. An alternative band called Swimmer's Union are ok, but way overrated. Overall, the Funhouse is full of wannabees who think they are more important and hip than they really are.
