Review from Jenny C.
A weekend afternoon commute on the 5 freeway from OC to DTLA is a nightmare. It can easily take us an hour to get there, find a parking spot, hit traffic yet again on the way home, yada yada yada...
Last Saturday D and I wanted to check out LA Live and Little Tokyo (thus entailing a trek to DTLA) and since were were feeling adventurous, D did a little bit of online research and we decided to take the Metrolink from the Fullerton Station to Union Station. They have a weekend pass for $10 which is good from Friday night until Sunday night on all Metrolink lines, Metro trains and buses. An easy and relaxing commute sans traffic (thus reducing our carbon footprint) is always a big plus to me!
We parked at the Fullerton station and headed out to Track 1 to wait for the 12:23pm NB train to LA. This station was decent, had ample parking spaces and it looked like a lot of people take the train from here.
For the convenience and price, I envision many trips to LA from the Fullerton station! -

Ticket service is quick. Train Depot is free of debris. Parking is plentiful.
Sketchy people "lounging" sometimes... -

Seriously....right now you can ride anywhere on the OC line for 7 bucks for the whole day.... In addition to this awesome deal...this station is in the heart of everything yummy and exciting in Fullerton...It will take only 5 minute walk to dozens of restaurants and bars. Places like Twisted Vine, The Matador, Ziings, etc..... So folks, take the train! Do it! Do it or loose it!. My train rides were way to empty. I would hate for there to be less trips. I wish there was a train every 10-15 minutes and more folks were using public transport.

Since the move to Anaheim, this is my new home station.
Picked up my friend Aaron (who's from Escondido) from this place. OMG. I had no idea it was right NEXT to the Old Spaghetti Factory! Oh! Next to the Slide Bar! Oh! down the road from Angelo and Vinci's!
This is also where I picked up my mum (who's from Glendale) when she comes to town and I'm the designated please-pick-me-uper.
What I like most about this station: All the places you can go to if you have to a) wait for the train or b) wait for your ride. All the places you can go to. My general survey says ding ding ding ding! There's a lot of places in walking distance that you can go to while you a) or b) (see above).
What I'm not sure about this place: If you can leave your car overnight or longer in the parking lot if you take an overnight trip. I know you can do this at the a)Irvine b) Santa Ana and c) Oceanside station.
What I didn't like about this place: Nothing (yet).
So, you fools in cars. Take the train if you have to drive to SD or someplace close. Takes the hassle off of driving and wading into the neverending headache they call traffic. You should try it. -

It's good to see a train station in the heavily commuting state. People are still taking it and that's really cool.
Fullerton Station is situated right next to Old Spaghetti Factory (How cool is that?) and Tutti Frutti (yuuuummy frozen yogurt)
Anyway, super easy to take the train. Buy your ticket online and pick up ticket at the station. You are all set. Chooo chooo.
Bon voyage! -

I love this vintage depot. My son loves to come here and watch the trains go by. This is a Fullerton landmark to see

Just my local train station. The most options for coming from/going to work via different lines that stop here! The place is relatively nice, however I do complain that there are a lot of homeless folks who congregate around the area. Still, this is my station of choice!

Weird to have 'Fullerton Station' as a place to review. What should I be reviewing? The AMTRAK trains that run through here usually on time but with somewhat dingy seats? The Metrolink Trains that run on time about 80% of the time and have extraordinarily cramped seats? The little cafe right by the tracks that serves decent breakfasts, though its coffee is hit-or-miss? The parking lot and structure, which is often full?
Not sure what to say, so I'll go with a brief bit on everything, I suppose.
Trains (Metrolink and Amtrak): useful for commuting if you work in downtown LA, as I do. If there wasn't so much traffic, I'd rather drive (and if you have 2 or more people carpooling, driving's probably a cheaper option), but rush-hour traffic to LA is awful, which bumps the train up on the list of commuting options. The Amtrak trains are dated, and the Metrolink trains have next-to-no legroom and uncomfortable seats. Beats traffic, though not quite sure by how much.
Parking: Two options for longer-than-2-hour-parking here: a large surface lot that is almost always full by 7am, and a parking structure that is almost always full by 8am. Parking's actually decent now, though half-a-year-ago when gas was over $4/gallon, it was impossible to find parking at the station - you would have to park 2 or 3 blocks away and walk to catch a train. Another 50 spaces or so would help immensely.
Cafe: Well... I already said, coffee's hit or miss, but breakfast (think variations on a McDonald's McMuffin) is pretty good and relatively inexpensive.
So... yeah. Fullerton Station. I'm there every weekday, and all things considered it's a nice enough station, but I view it from a utilitarian light - it is where I catch the train. Not much else to say. -

I love love love train stations, but out of the few that I have been to, I think this one takes the cake with its simplicity. I also enjoy the groups of older folks that hang out here playing cards, drinking coffee and watching the trains pass. I would love to follow in their footsteps in my old age. If you ever get the chance to ride the train, even if for no particular reason, consider leaving from this station. In such a central location for North OC, this station will prove to be uber convenient.

When I was 16 I used to go to the Hub (now the slidebar), drink hot chocolate with cute boys, then challenge them to game after game of air hockey.
Then we would walk across the parking lot to the Fullerton train station, watch the Disneyland fireworks from the pedestrian bridge, then make-out as trains went by underneath us.
Last time I tried to play air-hockey at the Slidebar the table ate my quarters. -

Indoor and outdoor seating, acceptable bathrooms, not sketchy, and in a very cute location with businesses all around. Also tons of parking since it shares the parking lot with other small businesses on the side the actual station is on, and on the other side of the tracks there is more parking it shares with a few small businesses and I think condos also. No complaints here.

This station is pretty cool. They have all these bohemian kids that hang out there in the evening and play loud music. I'm too old to join in but it's fun to watch them mingle in their natural habitat. They have a place to eat a sandwich and the food is pretty good. Within walking distance are plenty of nice sit-down restaurants. Occasionally you will have to hold your breath when you smell the mary jane. All-in-all a fun place to see.

Our neighborhood train station has become one of our son's favorite spots, Disneyland, Legoland, . . . the Fullerton Station. There's something about the place. I find it charming too. We'd hangout watching the trains come and go, sometimes along the track, sometimes on the pedestrian bridge where we can spot trains coming from miles away. Sometimes, we'll bring food, or get it from the snack shop, and have a meal while we watch the trains - freight trains, passenger trains. No matter how many trains he sees, each one brings a sense of wonder and excitement to his eyes. Yes, this is a truly special place in a little boy's heart.
