A lot of my friends seem to like Full Moon, but I think it's overrated and overpriced. The pizza is decent, but it's the most expensive pizza place on Arthur Avenue; expect to spend $4 or more for a specialty slice. There is a HEAVY emphasis on Sicilian pizza, to the point that it can be difficult to get a slice of a normal pie in anything other than a really basic type like cheese or pepperoni. I generally don't like Sicilian pizza, so this is a big turn-off for me.
If you're on Arthur Ave looking to get some good Italian food, you can do MUCH better than Full Moon, and cheaper, too. If you want pizza, check out Ivana's (across the street, apparently not on Yelp yet) or University (Fordham Rd. between Hoffman and Arthur). If you're willing to branch out, check out one of the delis and grab a sandwich (Casa Della Mozzarella and Tino's come to mind). Full Moon isn't bad, but there's really no reason to go here when there are so many better places nearby.
People rave about
the pizza but I think that
it's over-rated.
I'm definitely a fan of Full Moon pizzeria. I hit up this spot frequently when I lived in the Bronx for all of four weeks. The pizza is not the best in NYC, but it is definitely very very good. The place is very tiny and can get busy, so if your ordering a whole pizza, it would be best to call ahead because the wait is pretty long.
This was the most confusing experience I've ever had at a pizzeria and or restaurant EVER. First of all, there is no established line...where it starts, where do I pay, where are the drinks? The guy that took my order may or may not have spoken English since he seemed confused that I wanted to order 5 drinks. When I finally got my pizza, all 5 of us tried to take slices off the pan and the entire toppings just fell off. They were so disorganized that we easily could have walked out without paying...especially since while we were outside, we realized that no one paid. We went back in and paid, but for the most part, it wasn't worth it. The pizza isn't bad...but wasn't great. I probably could have ordered PaPa Johns and have been more satisfied.
Yes, the specialty slices are too expensive. That being said, I love love love their Sicilian with fresh basil, tomato sauces and portabello mushrooms. Such a treat. Plus, their regular pies are delicious too, very thin crust and no gross floury pizza dust on the bottom. I have no idea why, but the bottom of their pies are finger-licking good. Full Moon is a GREAT choice if you are on Arthur Ave looking for pizza, even if it is a little too pricey to be your regular go-to pizza joint. Note to Fordham students: Full Moon is not a late night joint, so it isn't going to replace Pugsleys anytime soon. That being said, when the pizza choices are this varied and delicious, why would you cheapen the experience by going drunk?
I can't think of a time where I went there and had a less than perfect slice. Although it's typical NY pizza, it's always timed to perfection and never ever burnt.
However, they are not open too late and if you get there within the hour before closing, it's slim pickings.
I wish I still lived half a block away from this place.
I'm not a huge Full Moon fan. The pizza only gets an "ehhhh" in my book and I'm always left wondering if they ever actually clean inside. :-/
Have ordered take out from them on several occasions. When I've gotten there, they just put my pizza in. If you're going to take someone's order and tell them to come in 20 minutes you should have their order ready, not make them reorder.
If you're looking for a good slice, take a walk to the end of Arthur and visit Catania's.
The pizza here is really really good, the pepperoni is delicious. This is just the right spot for a pizza place too. We paid $10 for two slices with pepperoni and two sodas, but well worth it when we take a trip to Arthur Avenue.
Best pizza in New York, hands down. Located off Arthur Ave in the Bronx in Little Italy, this place is the saving grace of local lunch options. Make sure to try the vegetable pizza. One word: amazing. Or just get a regular slice - it's crazy delicious, especially for something so simple.
If you have guests coming into town, go to the botanical garden or zoo nearby and stop by for a slice afterwards. Not only is the food amazing, but the local markets are shopping fun (albeit expensive). Get fresh pasta, desserts, rolled cigars, sausage that hangs from the ceiling of the local butcher shop, and just about anything else you can imagine. The neighborhood has an old New York vibe to it that you just don't get in Manhattan anymore. Believe me, they (and you, if you've never been there before) will thank you for the trip.
Why why why would you go to Full Moon when you're in Little Italy?! This place has zero charm and very mediocre pizza (which is mystifying because it is sandwiched between the best markets in the Bronx). The sicilian is way too yeasty and the ingredients don't taste especially fresh. The regular slice is just that: regular. In my opinion there's really no excuse to go to Full Moon. Even if you're not in the mood to spend money in one of the more formal Arthur Ave. restaurants, go up the street to Pugsley's! The pizza is cheap and amazing and if Sal's working he's sure to make a hilarious lasting impression.
I love Full Moon! The owners are great. The owner's daughter actually went to Fordham and it is much better than a cheesy overpopulated dive like Puglsey's when atmosphere takes priority over taste. My friend and I always have to split an eggplant and fresh mozarella sicilian slice because they are both so amazing! They are only open till about 9pm, they sometimes offer marina slices without cheese (for all those vegans). I liked it so much last semester I think I would go about once a week.
One of my favorite pizza places in the city. The crust is perfectly seasoned and not too doughy. One slice is never enough!
I have been eating Full Moon pizza since I was a kid. They have a great assortment of different pizzas with my favorite being the Sicilian and the fresh tomato and mozzarella. If you want great pizza, you will not be disappointed!
Not a bad slice. The crust is pretty good. Crispy subtle seasoning, it's the cheese and sauce that can use sprucing up. It's not bad cheese and sauce mind you, but if it were spiced up a la DiFara then it would be a great slice.
Full Moon is a small sit-down pizza place in the heart of the Bronx's little Italy. It's hard to get a seat here in the summer time, so you can always take your slice and soda and sit down at the local park. Orders are filled quickly, the prices are great, and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the spinach pizza.
Full Moon is where I go whenever I want a slice of pizza and I am close to Arthur Avenue. There slices are thin, not too much crust with just the right amount of sauce and cheese. Very reliable and quick. I have never been disappointed.
Sometimes it's nice to be reminded that the places and things in your memory hold up to your current standards. Full Moon has been around and in my life for a long time and never disappoints.
its ok but not the italian pizza eveyone thinks it is its just your typical american pizza have an italian hero if your down on arthur ave why have your typical slice unless it taste like the pizza in italy i know because im italian and had pizza in italy plenty of times it tastes nothing like the ones in italy
SO many pizzerias around the Bronx are so small and cheap looking. You just go in and order an slice and leave. This pizzeria/ Restaurant is pleasantly different. If you are in the area you should give them a try.
