I have been to many restaurants in this area that serve sushi and this place is a diamond in the rough.  The food is always super fresh, well presented, and just downright amazing.  The staff is always smiling and very prompt.  I have eaten here over 20 times since it opened and have never had a bad experience.  While this restaurant sits in a "strip mall" area, you are quickly whisked away to authentic Japan when you enter.  The woodwork is amazing and the decor very upscale.

Very Very highly recommended.

We visited this restaurant on 1/20/2010. To be honest, I had purchased a $25 certificate from http://restaurant.com and the certificate was the only reason we decided on Fuji. Funny thing is, we didn't even use the certificate because the service we received was phenomenal.

We ordered sushi a la carte -- mackerel, white tuna, sweet shrimp (with the fried heads, of course!), tobiko, squid, yellowtail, octopus,
And a few rolls that I can't recall the names of.

The food was very good. The restaurant was clean. The service was GREAT.  We will definitely be returning.

Instead of going to the usual pho place, we were craving sushi.  From the outside, it does not seem like much.  However, once you step inside the decor is modern and clean.  I loved the raised seating they have on your right.  It is trimmed with box lighting of blue lights and seashells. Hard to describe. Uh... just look right and down. :)

The food. We were not that hungry but we wanted to try different stuff because it was our first time there.  I ordered the tofu katsu appetizer.  Super cute.  Two pieces of tofu fried with little miniature servings of salad, a dumpling, apple, etc.  My sister ordered seaweed salad; she commented that it was a larger serving than she got in other places.

They gave me free house salad, which is an iceberg salad with a homemade dressing that rings of orange and ginger.  It was fresh and unique.

We also drank free hot tea, because it was so cold outside. Br...

She ordered the spicy rolls.  Tuna, Salmon, and California roll. 18 pieces.  I don't usually eat sushi, but she said it was fresh and really good.  They don't overdo the rice, which I like.

Oh! They gave us free miso soup too! :)

We also ordered fried ice cream.  We chose sesame icecream to have it fried.  Sesame icecream is so good, and I recommend you try it sometime.   It.s very unique and not too overpowering.  The fried part is actually banana bread.  It is so unique and good.

The service was awesome.  We got a lot of free stuff.  The presentation of the food is good.  The food tastes amazing.  You really feel like you are at a place that is working hard to give you an experience.

Check it out sometime.

I would like to try the don katsu sometime.  To be continued. . .

Best sushi in town.

We discovered this place while shopping for board games at the Game Parlor next door, but since that chance encounter, we've become regulars... The fish is fresh, the presentation is excellent. My onlu complaint is against the music... 90s pop hardly goes with the ambiance...

The servers are extremely friendly, and as loyal customers, we always get something "on the house"...

The restaurant always seems practically empty except for us, which makes me worried about how long they will be open...

Okay, if you're a foodie or just a straight-up nerd, you need to drag your butt out to Fuji.

Now the bonus if you're a straight-up nerd, you can stop in Fuji and have bite to eat before walking two doors down to the Game Parlor, a Mecca of role-playing and board games.  And let's be honest, I'm grossly generalizing here, but if you're going out on a Friday night to play Warhammer in public, you might need to consider eating some healthy fish instead of grazing on fatstuffs at the pizza shop.

Fuji is a Japanese style sushi place that also serves a respectable selection of donburi, katsu and teriyaki dishes.  Their sushi is all made quickly with very fresh fish and a rotating selection of specials.  The teriyaki is all grilled perfectly with a very subtle teriyaki sauce and the Katsu are all fried to perfection.  We've come to enjoy the fried tofu appetizer with bonito flakes and have ordered it every time we've dined her or taken carry-out home.

For an amazing value, the teriyaki combos include teriyaki pork, salmon or chicken over rice with a side of tempura veggies and a selection of sushi (usually three nigiri and a California roll) for about $18.  A delicious pig-out platter!

Although it's situated in a nondescript strip-mall, the interior of the place is gorgeous and spotless with lots of warm wood and clean lines.  The staff are all adorable, eager to please and very attentive.

The economy isn't great and not a lot of people have discovered the interesting restaurants popping up in this shopping mall, so I'd encourage everyone to go out and have dinner in one of these great little restaurants at the Lowes plaza.  It'd be a shame to lose one of these local charmers, only to have yet another Barfelbee's or Vomit Tuesday's pop up in its place.

So, skip the subway run and try something new by visiting Fuji.  Support your local independent restaurants!

Fuji opened this week in Chantilly. It's in the same shopping center as K-mart.

And in shocking news, it's owned by Koreans.

Yes, that's right. A Japanese restaurant owned and operated by Koreans in Northern Virginia. How rare.

It's a pretty clean restaurant that looks like any other Japanese restaurant. Conservative and old-fashioned. Classical muzak pumped throughout the restaurant.

We tried the Shrimp Tempura, which comes out looking like a Tee-Pee (kinda cool looking). It was all right.

My companion had the Sushi+Sashimi combo. I didn't try any of it, but the fish pieces looked pretty big, and I'm told they were tasty.

I ordered the Tonkatsu. It comes pre-sliced and is very thin and tender.

Each lunch entree was around $10.

It's hard to gauge the service since it's their first week. The waitress popped in here and there, but I did have to keep asking her to refill my water. She never did it unprompted.

It's a nice plan, friendly people. It doesn't stand out in any way but it's not a bad choice for lunch.

Fresh, tasty fish in Chantilly--what???? We were so pleased with this place, we only hope they can keep up the wonderful quality of fresh fish, everything else at a sushi place is secondary! They have fancy, fusion rolls that I usually indignantly refuse to order, but I tried one today (salmon and mango) and it was very tasty!

I have a feeling they read the reviews too because the waitress was johnny on the spot with my water!

If you are rolling through and hungry, bring your service here!

Large portions and friendly service make this place a winner.  The price is in line with all other quality sushi restaurants, but the portions are quite a bit larger.

tried this place again last night for dinner and it was great.  everything was very fresh and the flavors were on point.  we ordered one of the specials which was a spicy tuna and avacado with a garlic mayo sauce.  the spice of the tuna was perfect and hit you right at the end.  i was a little concerened about the garlic mayo but it was awesome.  more garlic then mayo which i liked because i dig garlic.  everything else we ordered was also delicious.  towards the end of our meal they brought us out a complimentary roll which was crab and tuna wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber in lieu of nori.  it was sitting in a miso type broth (but cold) with lots of sesame seeds.  pretty presentation and very good!  the waitress was very friendly and attentive.  decided to go here because our favorite place in vienna is closed on sundays.  however, we definitely weren't settling....
