Okay here is the shakedown for this Fry's.
The Good:
-Cheap prices, and great selection.
-Always unique items you might not find anywhere else.
-Parking is easy, and spacious.
The Bad:
-Customer service was worse in the past, slightly improved but still has a long way to go.
-Clerks who ignore you.
The Ugly:
-Im gonna be upfront and say that I am little biased for places make such a big deal about dogs. Its my quirk just being honest. I mean I don't expect to take him in a restaurant or market, but a store where it has no food sold (at least not open like a market) I would not think its a big deal. I know stores have the right to say no dogs, but make it obvious. I walk in with my lil dog strapped in the cart. The front clerk stops me and tells me no dogs allowed. I asked him where the sign was. He points to his podium on the opposite side of the entrance, at the bottom. What customer is gonna see that. Just post it on the door! Not that hard. Thats my 2 cents on that.
Overall, I will be back but I always suggest doing ur research before coming in, know what ur looking for and try avoid asking for help. Otherwise it will be a plain, uninteresting and painless shopping experience. Browsing is fun here because of their selection.
Not a bad fry's.... I've never realy had big problems with parking... accessible from a couple different angles.
Staff is as usual here.... a bit pathetic... and prices are better than I would normally expect to support impulse buys.
This is now our normal Fry's to hit up.
In comparison to 3 other Fry's Electronics close by I'd say the one in Sunnyvale is by far the best.
A word of advice tho, go there KNOWING what you want to buy. Don't expect employees to be able to help you with product comparisons or deciding which one is right for you. They will however help you FIND what you're looking for. It's a big store.
You WONT find the best deals on desktops and laptops here. Better off searching newegg. From my experience the best discounts are on software and computer accessories.
Additional note: they have astronaut food in the components department.... I have yet to try some!
Soo I guess customer service has improved slightly at this location? I went in today to buy some headphones for my Ipod (I bought cute pink ones to match) & when I went up to pay, the lady asked if I found everything okay. I was shocked cuz usually I never get asked that here. Nor do I ever get asked if I need help if I go down an aisle looking completely lost! That's the downside as to why I hate this place. But anywaays, when I finished paying, the lady said "Thank you for shopping & choosing Frys. Have a nice day."
Hmm, a good experience today I may say. She somewhat made my day by being a good employee in a place that rarely cares bout customer service.
I finally got a chance to stroll inside a Fry's location !! It's very big and has a lot of things . Has lots of tools and pieces you can use to fix or build electronics . Definitely better than Best Buy , but this place isn't really as great as I thought it'd be . It's not electronic heaven ... it's not quite there yet . Fry's is more like a mix of Best Buy and Office Max ....
I would recommend best buy. Their management needs to improve.
bought a Rear View Camera and paid the installation cost of $150 along with the cables (camera kit says that it has all the required cables, but the installation technician asked me to buy 15 ft AV cable and I even bought it).
First, they installed in left side of my van, but I asked them to install on right side. Finally, i do not want to put holes again in my car and bought a licence plate frame and installed on top it. It was working for 1 week with frequent blur image in the monitor. When I bought the camera, the sales guys said that I can come for any installation defects. But the technicians are not accepting their mistakes and they are saying that it was working when they installed it and it is not working now and they are not responsible now.
Also, the technician are very rude.
Geeks only should enter Fry's: Fry's is the mecca for geeks in the silicon valley. Vastly large with an impressive array of items from candy bars, to chips, boards, disks, software, audio/video, media, housewares, you name it. Their prices are good; but, best to watch for your favorite item to be on sale where the prices are quite good. Check the San Jose Mercury news for Fry's ads daily and their big ad insert on Fridays.
The downside is that their employees are almost completely useless. If you have a question or need help--go elsewhere. If you know exactly precisely what you want and are willing to hunt around in the store to find it, it is a good place to go.
I prefer the Sunnyvale store and will even drive past the Palo Alto store to go to Sunnyvale. Sunnyvale is larger, cleaner, better organized and less crowded with products and people.
A great selection of electronics and games, but the staff knows nothing and is unwilling and unable to help customers. Not a good place to go if you're unsure of which product/model to buy as you won't get any sort of valuable assistance. But if you know exactly what you want, they probably have it.
I just bout a TV from here, and while I really like the TV the customer service here is kind of spotty. In comparison to the Best Buy in Sunnyvale where you literally can't walk from one section of the store to another without being asked if you need help with anything, I had to go hunt for people to help us. Of course they always have specials and sales, but they seem to sell out of those fast. It wasn't a bad experience, but I was in no way wowed or anything. If you are looking for something and you know what you want then I am sure Fry's will work for you just fine.
There really is a difference between Fry's and this one is the best as far as I am concerned. Today I had to get a reader for my xd card. There are only a few and they can vary widely in price.
When I walked into this Fry's I was overwhelmed by how BIG it is! I am used to the highly claustrophobic one off 17, the other side from Pruneridge. This one actually has a restaurant that looks like it makes food!
I felt like the prom queen because as I wandered into the middle with a bemused look on my face, a nice man asked if he could help. I explained what I needed and he got me in the right row. Then he asked another employee about the exact location. Soon, I was being helped by two nice men. One introduced himself personally to me, then mentioned what department he was located in and noted that he had two other xd readers that retailed for about 14.00 and if I couldn't find what I wanted, I should look him up...
I found an xd reader for 8.00 and made my way to the cashier by way of the magazines, cd's, mac software... well, it wasn't a direct route.
All in all, I had a pretty good shopping experience, even checked out the new macs and played with some of the new toys, but felt darn lucky to get out for only 8.26! Yeah!
I will remember that I like this Fry's the best. Why only four stars? I remember the old days of Fry's when you could get cases of coke at pretty decent prices. I didn't see any of that... miss it a little.
How To Lose A Customer In 3 Easy Steps - By Fry's Electronics
Step 1: Survey your area - in this case, the wireless network area.
Step 2: See the confused, young and super cute customer, comparing 2 items in hand, obviously oblivious as to which to purchase.
Step 3: Completely BYPASS the customer and ask everyone else if they need any help with anything.
Done.
I'm sticking to http://Amazon.com: the prices are cheaper, the return policy kicks ass AND they don't discriminate.
HATECHU FRY'S.
PS. The rep was a middle-aged, heavyset Indian woman with dollar signs in her eyes $_$
I usually go to the Palo Alto location, but the few times I've been here, the selection seems about the same. How can you not love Fry's, nerd heaven?
My favorite part about this store is the sinc function theme. There is a giant sign on the store exterior which is a green sinc function. If you study physics or electrical engineering, you should know what a sinc function is. Then inside, there are sinc function hand rails!! Awesome!!
My sister went to Stanford and took a signal processing class. Her professor said that he went to this very same Fry's and took photos of the sinc functions. Some annoying worker told him, "No, you canna do that" in an Indian accent. Well, I'm happy to say that no one bothered me for taking photos of the sinc functions.
I like visiting because they always have new products out for display.
But to purchase NO NO NO! Most things on sale are "open box" discount
And with that your going 50 50 that your getting something decent.
Not as good as they used to be for getting electronic components and calibration tools (ex. Fluke meters).
They seem to have moved to carrying more consumer electronics and just flat out junk (but at least they take now accept AMEX).
And like everybody else said, just get in, get out and get your stuff. The sales people are more of hindrance than anything else.
I have to give this store a plus-one for a total round number of five-stars!
I've had a few Fry's lunchtime runs in the last couple of months, to ensure that our small SE team are equipped with the proper arsenal to forge ahead and win the battle of selling our hip solution to make your internet experience flawless. Last couple of times were a couple of USB flash drive finds and other Data Center tools that we needed to do rack and stack hardware de-install and re-install (from our lab and right into the heart of your favorite Data Center cage).
The best time to convert a lunch hour into a quarter of an hour is around the 11:15am time-space continuum - right before the lunch time geek run rush. You zip in and out with a bunch of geeky goodies and more.
Today, I made it in 20 minutes. My errand: to buy my most beautiful German princess the best 4 year old gift ever: a Leapster Learning system (a high-tech education toy)! Do you know they have a small section of children's toys for toddlers from 3 mos-6 mos and even up to 8 years? It's the best fun toys the ensures that your little ones are enthralled to open up the present while you are rest assured that their geeky-wheels-and-gears are being exercised at a very early age!
For lunch today I got my one and only niece a very cool PDA toy that hooks up to the internet while her baby brother Vince gets a blue elephant that does phonics and numbers.
Kudos to the service ... cashiers are old-school "Manong Pinoys" .. that so give you service - ala-Manila style .. "Ma'am, Fry's credit card?", as I replied with a sad pout, "Manong, huwag nalang, ayoko nang utang kasi, cash nalang, pwede?". With a twinkle, he grins, "Yes, ma'am!" Filipino customer service at its par (A Filipino Wharton economist once stated that the Philippines' domestic workers possess the EQ attribute, EQ= emotional quotient, one that he states is unquantifiable, that makes the Philippines a compelling choice for outsourcing and customer service ventures.). Well, I would tend to agree.
When a geek store satisfies my very geeky needs and my nurturing needs with an added EQ factor, don't you think it deserves a good five star?

Lunch time in Silicon Valley sometimes entails a quick run at Fry's to shop for those last minute… Read more »
This is my favorite frys and happens to be one of the newer ones in the bay area. I can almost find anything need here on my own, which is helpful because the service is not very good. Generally the employees walk around and talk to each other instead of customers.
If i had beef with this place, it would be around the networking and book area... just doesn't flow. The motherboard, diskdrive, and system memory section is too small... means too many people standing around wondering what is what including employees.
I also have beef with the TV section. It's ghetto! Clean it up!
The Cafe here is amazing, the sammies are off the chain. Come here for lunch and walk it off afterwards.
Frys Sunnyvale is a vast store with lot of electronic items. Name anything, you will definitely see that particular item, if not the same brand you wanted
My husband purchased a very expensive laptop from them couple of years back along with a $300 three year service plan. The laptop got a problem(for the first time, and couple of months left on the plan), since it is still under the service period we gave it to them for repair. We were asked to pick the loaner unit on the next day, as their rules say that there shold be a 24hr window.
It was our mistake not to try to boot the loaner unit at their place, we were in a hurry. When we find out that the loaner is not booting, we had to go there for another exchange. in order to get / return / re-issue the loaner unit we have to wait in the returns queue along with all the other customers who are returning their items. No matter how long the queue is. This process is a tedious, time consuming and frustrating one, as even though it is their mistake you have to wait in the queue.
After like a month, one fine day we got a call from them that our laptop is repaired. We went there to collect it, and the service person asked us to return the loaner first, before even checking our unit. We waited in the return queue and returned the loaner. When we collected our unit, we figured out everything is fine but the keyboard panel is not connected well. We are unable to see anything on the screen while typing. We are like, what !? if the unit is not ready why they made a call to us, and made us to return the loaner too. They took somemore time to fix it by making us wait.
We both are very much dissatisfied with the process of service. Service plans are good to have, but Is this is the kind of service you get when you pay in advance for service plan? Anyway we have decided that we are not going to buy any high valued item at Fry's Sunnyvale.
Never again!!. Worst customer service. DONT buy online!!!
I ordered a printer from http://fys.com and it said 'store pickup only' which to me was great news. It showed me the closest stores which had the printer in stock and I picked San Jose. I paid wt ccard and got an emailed receipt. The next morning I get a called and the employee says there are 2 in stock but 1 is floor model and that she can NOT find the 2nd one. She said Sunnyvale has 2 instock. SO I called Sunnyvale and told them my story. He said he has 2 in stock. I made him check for sure. He finds the box and holds it for me. I DRIVE all the way there and when I'm about to pay, he notices the box he found is a different printer. Of course more $$. HE also could NOT find the actual box I wanted in stock!! even though it shows 2. I told him on the phone to go check for sure and he said he had it! 2 stores mess up in 1 day?? That's enough Fry's for me. Never again.
This is 3 of 3! I know there is one in Palo Alto but it is has been ages since I have been there.
*The custumer service sucks! Over the holidays, John T. witness a salesperson being a jerk and smart ass to another customer. John T. had to stepped in and I sweared there was almost a fight! I was ready to restrain John T. so that e does not kill the guy.
*Even though this is the largest location, they never have AD items in stock.
*The employees are extra ghetto here.
Only 2 stars!
I'm a nerd. I admit it freely. And since I'm a nerd I'll express this in equation form:
Large Warehouse Store + Clueless Staff = Terrible Shopping Experience
I made a rare visit to Fry's the other day to replace my travel alarm clock. (I bought my last one here and knew where they kept them. It seemed like a foolproof plan). I went to the components section but struck out, so I asked a staff member. She sent me to the computer section (Really?...uh OK). I went to the computer section but struck out, so I asked a staff member. He sent me to the components section...You can see where this is going.
In the end, I visited 4 sections, talked to 5 staffers, went for a meandering 25-minute walk, and left empty-handed. It turns out they don't carry basic, travel alarm clocks any more (as determined by the fifth and final staff member at the help desk). Later that night I found the exact clock I wanted on Amazon. It'll arrive in a few days.
I thought the staff at Circuit City and Best Buy were bad, but the people working here make them look like Rhodes Scholars. Enough said.
I have only had one positive experience at Fry's in the last five years. On that one visit I looked for and found an obscure Apple video conversion cable that I hadn't been able to find anywhere else. They get one extra star for that.
Why I used to shop here and then no more is due to the fact that a LOT of the people that work here don't know what they're talking about PLUS a LOT of them can barely straighten their English. It's electronics we are talking about here and I would like to buy something quite clearly explained to me.
NOt only that, the last time I shopped here, there was this strong stench of body (BAD) odor that gave me abloody migraine.
This store is too packed for the size.
I strongly recomment Bestbuy instead.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Or in this case, if it's already broken, don't break other parts of it. Please don't break the one part that was fine.
For years the one redeeming quality about Fry's has been the video game selection. Within those few aisles, I could always find what I was looking for (or at least find that it's out of stock). Persona 3 for PS2? PS2, P, Persona 3. NFL Street for Xbox? Xbox, N, NFL Street. Simple. Straightforward. Logical.
This week I came in to browse the DS games... and nothing was sorted with any semblance of logic. I couldn't figure out why nothing was alphabetized. Then I saw the yellow tags. "Family & Interactive." "Role-Playing & Strategy." "Sports." "Action." Titles forced into these arbitrary categories. So stupid.
Resident Evil 4 for Wii... is it interactive, or action? The World Ends With You for DS... is it action, or RPG?
They took out an objective, logical system (alphabetization) and replaced it with a subjective, insubstantial system (categorization). It's not even a categorization system with disjoint, well-defined categories... like ESRB ratings. It doesn't make an iota of sense to force games into categories where there is overlap.
I come by today looking for Disgaea DS on the day of its release. Nowhere to be found in the RPG/strategy section. I don't see it in the other sections either. I ask one of the stuffed shirts, who will almost certainly prove to be inept. "Uh... let me go ask somebody. ... Oh, it's right there. ... On the bottom shelf." Oh, you mean in no-man's land, outside of all the stupid categories you set up? Next to the clearance games that your buyer ordered way too many of? Of course that's where it is.
I feel like I'm in an abusive relationship with Fry's. I don't know why I keep going back.
"She loved him, yeah.
She don't want to leave this way.
She feeds him, yeah.
That's why she'll be back again.
Can't find a better man.
Can't find a better man..."
[ Pearl Jam - Better Man ]
Those lyrics would fit better if I were a she. Just pretend for a second. ... Okay that's enough. Stop it. My eyes are up here!

Good selection, decent prices, and easily THE WORST customer service in the business. Absolutely… Read more »
I believe this is the first Fry's location, the origins of an epic chain....
It's rather hard to find, and parking here sucks if you come here on a busy day. I don't like the store layout and the employees are rather rude.
I came here asking about a memory card and since I wasn't in the right section, the guy pointed me over to another section, where I got lost and when I did find components, it was still the wrong area to go to. When I found what I needed, I went to go get a micro sd card reader, and the guy at the counter told me the other piece of hardware that I was told to get was the wrong thing, and gave me something else.
Needless to say, I was very confused and the employees here made me feel really stupid even though I knew exactly what I needed.
To add insult to injury, the micro sd card reader doesn't even work, and the cables I bought have issues as well. I need to go back and return them and I know that they are going to hassle me some more.
Jerks.
This place sucks, every time I go here I see 20 people who have been standing around helping other people completely ignore me when I have a question.
At least at Best Buy you can get a question answered. Also nearly everything has a sticker on it, tons of stuff being sold after being returned. It never says why, just that it might have been refurbished, broken and fixed by Fry's, returned, etc. Buy it new - $30.00 - buy it with the sticker, you get a whole $2 off. Wow.
Frys is a neccessary evil sometimes if you NEED to get something only they have. For some reason, in the Bay, Best Buy and the now defunct Circuit Cities seem to carry much less than the ones back East did.
That means Frys is it for ac's, tvs, computers....but it doesn't mean they have cornered the PC part market.
Check out Microcenter if you need to get some cool custom parts or any pc parts. Prices vary but they also have cases, and some things that Fry's doesn't carry. However, Fry's also has a few things (and a much larger selection of motherboards) so plan to go to both stores before building a case if you are buying parts locally and not online.
My major gripe with them is not leaving us alone when we know what we want to buy (wanting commission of something we picked out ourselves, and they come over and "help" us when we are leaving???) or me standing around forever staring at them helping someone else, making eye contact with them, and them just leaving when the cusomter is finished that they are helping. Wow, that's nice.
The only good employee I did meet there was happy because it was his last day. We asked him how he was doing and he was like "I'm doing great! I'm almost gone," and we asked if his shift was almost over, he said no, he'd found a better job. Good for him!
I raised the review a star because while most of the stuff you can buy here is good, I do get duds. When you buy cheap speakers, for example, or case fans, sometimes you get a POS. Taking stuff back at Fry's takes forever but in general they don't interrogate you when you bring something back.
What's this? People are mean to Fry's... 2.5 stars?
Well... I LOVE Fry's. Not only do they have all the coolest toys at great prices but they also have sexy Asian EngiNerds walking around all over the place!!! Great scenery... I've never had a hard time getting help there like I do in 'other' electronics stores and the staff is mostly friendly. If I was in need of assistance, I'd just call on one of the hottie nerdy guys with cool glasses. *sigh* It's a smart girls dream...
See ya there!
Unless you know exactly what you want, this place sucks!, the staff is not friendly and their selection of items seem always refurbished, it's a pretty sad place.
Comprehensive selection, variable customer service. Fry's is a great place to go if you just gotta have something electronic and you need it right now. It is also one of those places where you could become lost and starve to death before you found the odd food court in the middle of the cavernous space.
The people working there are all over the map technically, and many of them are unfamiliar with the store's (crazy) layout. It took me 10 minutes to find blank DVD-Rs today, with their "help". I should have just run up and down the aisles until I found it. Sigh.
Fry's prices and inventory are not horrible.
However, a cautionary tale about http://www.FrysCredit.com: first off, I wanted to pay my latest bill directly on site, but it's not allowed unless you agree to stop getting paper bills. Fine, no problem.
Then a notice like this comes up: even though you're using their site, your payment still won't post until the next business day (I was doing this in the early AM on a weekday, too). If you would like a same-day posting, you'll be billed a $15.00 expedite fee.
"The fastest, smartest, and easiest way to pay at Fry's" -- my butt.
A playground for all electronic lover who like to shop without being bothered by sales ppl. who are trying to sell you stuff without knowing what they are bubbling....
If you want great customer service don't go here... this is a place for ppl. who know what they are buying and what they want..
For better customer service go to Best Buy and Co. although even Best Buy is not the best... hubby had some sales ppl. who knew even less than him or weren't able to answer his questions at all...
Find what you want, buy it, and leave!!!
Who cares about all the negative reviews on service. Go to BestBuy if you want regular service!!! Big deal!!! Stupid managers brew stupid mistakes, and I've found good bargains due to carelessness. The best buys are always at FRYS!!!
I used to be a frys fan until a while ago. I came to this frys to return something that broke after only a week of having it. IT was HELL! Half of the employees were being "trained" and the other half were too busy talking about their lives. I finally got to return it, but to find anything in that store is so hard. Like Lilian said, its a ZOO! Why does the line to check out line take at least 20 minuetes every time?
I almost always get hit on and i almost always cant find what im looking for.
ughh... the worst part is i know someone who works there.....hmmm..
I am extremely disappointed with Fry's Electronics.
Everytime I visit this place, I never get good customer service. The other day, my hubby needed to buy speakers and there was no one around to help us. After 20 mins walking around, someone (not in the speaker/car accesories department) was able to help. Thats BS.
And a few weeks ago, we took our laptop in to get fixed (its still under warranty). It's been 2 weeks and I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CALL from this place. They gave us a loner comp but give me call and let me know whats going on with my laptop. The funny thing is when I dropped off my laptop, a guy was complaining that it's been 2 weeks and Fry's never contacted him about his laptop.
I can't wait till I get my laptop... I'm gonna give the people who fixed my laptop HELL!!! I hate people that have bad customer service skills.
One of the better Fry's. Spent hours here searching for the perfect set of speakers. Kind of a hit or miss with the sales people- they either are uber knowledgable and can direct you to what you are looking for plus extra info. Or they don't know where "boomboxes" are or WHAT boomboxes are. Better luck finding it yourself.
Good selection, good deals most of the time. I think the internet's huge selection has weakened this store's "deals" a lot of the time but it's great for when you want something immediately. Anything immediately- they have tons of stuff. Not bad, but the sales assistants need more enthusiasm and knowledge on their subjects...
First off I'm not the biggest Fry's fan.
1. I hate refurbished goods sold at high prices
2. I don't like how the refurb stuff is mixed in with the new stuff
3. On certain days its hard to get a good answer
But yesterday was a good day for Fry's and Karim.
I secretly own a PS3 that I haven't been able to play just yet so I've been moonlighting with a Nintendo Wii. And-boy-I-tell-you-what! The Wii is the more than just the business its that shit you got to have!
The Wii fit is revolutionary and Wii yoga is my friend. It not really yoga in my opinion but it is good for a good morning stretch.
I'm not to sure on how new this item is but the next best thing in the Wii world is the Wii Balance board. If you get the need to ski or want to learn how to ski pick up the Wii Balance and We Ski game and go for it!
The game play is great. The slopes are amazing and you get that real skiing sound. I swear I wanted to turn the AC up to freezing and turn on the fans on high to complete my indoor sking experience.
So this review is more about The Wii than Fry's but I found the Wii Balance at Fry's. Talk about a Diamond in the rough.
Kids from the 2nd grade could work here and know more then people that work there now. I thought the objective of going to thee electronic store is when you asked questions you received an answer .... instead I follow dumbshit around to the next dumbshit on a quest for the answer. Do plenty of research yourself and figure what you want because when you get there you have entered the Twilight Zone. I suggest E-bay most likely cheaper and you don't have to deal with fucking idiocracy.
Haha it is fry's electronics, do i need to say any more? the people here are as rude as can be, they ignore you because they dont want to work, and they have little to no product knowledge. Why couldnt the economy put this place out of business... geez!
"Listen you, I need that camera over there right now" was the only way I could grab the associate's attention, while another associate gave me the "Wait a minute" as he walked around the camera section with a sign in his hand, trying to get people to sign up for the Fry's credit card.
Horrible customer service, but the store has mostly everything you need. I'm telling you, you win some, you lose some.
I'm no techie or computer nerd, but I've been here a few things for stuff that I knew they would have, and I've never been disappointed. Their staff is always willing to help. We were asked like 7 or 8 times if we needed help. It almost got annoying, but it's way better than walking around for 10 minutes looking for someone for help. It's really big though and difficult to find common but small things like modems. I had to ask, I hate asking. Anyways. The prices were kind of high, but I dont really know what the prices should be so...they have pretty much anything you can think of, including books, food, coffee.
I've been shopping at this store for 6 yrs. I've never really had a problem here, but then again I try not to buy anything too important. I treat it like ebay, you spend your money here with the understanding that you will be losing that money if you realize you cannot use the item that you buy b/c you won't be able to return it....
I have watched as some customers battle it out with the Fry's employees over a return or some sort of advice regarding computer components, etc. It can be entertaining but yet sad that Fry's is trying to screw a customer.
I had a CD player installed in my Jeep and didn't have any issues with the guys in the installation department. CD player itself still functions well after 6 years, not so much the Jeep, but that's not the point of this review....
I've bought video games, computer software, toys, phones, batteries, flashlights, lamps, office supplies, wireless routers, stuffed animals, anime, music, movies, etc. So far, no problems. I did have to return a wireless router one time and luckily they didn't give me a hard time about it. They have a nice selection of magazines, nose hair trimmers, kitchen electronics, anime DVDs, smut DVDs (so someone tells me), vacuum cleaners and phones.
I bring out of town guests to this store for hours of endless entertainment. They just cannot believe how much stuff this place sells.
