A working depression era dairy farm preserved in a loving manner. Perfectly designed to provide your little ones with a completely false stereotype of American agriculture and animal husbandry.
Is there no county park where my children can play in manure holding ponds, artificially inseminate tightly caged hogs, or be strong armed by Monsanto executives into giving back all the seeds because they are "intellectual property"?
I guess the kids deserve a few more years of myth. Santa will fail them someday, as will the family farmer. Then they will be sitting in a coffee shop reading the book companion to "Food Inc."

What a cool park!!!  I wish they'd had a park like this in the suburbs where I grew up!  You can bring the kids by year-round to see the farm animals and take advantage of a number of facilities including a covered picnic area, open grass fields, playgrounds, a "country store" with games, toys and snacks, or take a tractor-pulled wagon ride around the perimeter of the park.  This past weekend, there were a number of adorable babies out and about, of both the human and animal variety (lots of lambs, kid goats, calves and piglets!).  The facilities were all nicely kept and the animals seemed well cared for.

If you're a horse person, they have a full cross-country course available for schooling that includes a water jump and a couple bank elements, as well as indoor and outdoor arenas.  Use of the grounds for training purposes is very affordable (rates listed on their website).  Growing up in an area where haul-in training facilities like this were few and far between, I would have LOVED having this place close by!

This isn't the kind of park that you bring a picnic lunch to and cop a squat under a tree At Frying Frying Pan Park you'll find Kidwell Farm. The farm is a working model farm that is supposed to be like it would have been in this area during the early 20th-century.

If you see any turkeys on the farm, it is likely he or she was pardoned by the president. I am sure you have seen it reported on Good Morning America or the Today show, they make a lame turkey joke every year around Thanksgiving.

The big draw here are horse shows and events. There's also is an indoor activity center, indoor and outdoor riding arenas, and an horse trail.

Note: They don't rent out horses here or offer lessons, but if you happen to have access to a horse, you can ride it on the trail.

I've only visited Frying Pan Park re: it's double life as an equine venue - enjoying it's horse-training facilities (indoor/outdoor rings, cross-country course, etc.) & attending the various horse auctions held there.

As others have said, the facilities are clean & well-kept/groomed - just as important for horse enthusiasts as it is for family picnicers.

We are so lucky this park is down the street from our house.  Year around viewing of animals, picnic areas, playgrounds, and a country store.  Can it get better than this?  I went last summer to the farmers market on Wednesday with my infant, so we didn't really get to enjoy all the amenities, but all the toddlers were in heaven.  I can't wait to go back this summer now that my kid is mobile!

I am SO HAPPY that the park is what it is!  We visited the park on Sunday, and fell in love with the baby animals.

The premises were clean, and the animals looked healthy and happy.

We look forward to more visits!

It may be surrounded by cookie cutter houses and the burbs, but if you don't look past the tree line you really feel like you're in a Va farm!  They have an assortment of livestock (pigs, cows, horses, sheep) and a hay-ride where you can cruise around the perimeter (remember to ignore the houses just past the divide).  Staff was very cordial and they even do milking demonstrations (hooked up to machines, sadly).

Our family loves this park!  It is clean and there a lot of activities for children to do.  There is a nice playground, animals, tractor rides, a store, and demonstrations.  My daughter and I absolutely love seeing and petting the animals in a farm type setting.  This is a great place to bring toddlers or yourself if you love animals like I do ; )
