My sister and her fiance introduced me to this place. Its located in the ferry building. They have really good oatmeal with fruits and nuts.
My favorite thing I've tried here is the pear tart. The best fruit pastry I've ever tried in my life! Not too sweet, not too soggy or crunchy... perfect!
Definitely recommend everyone in the area to try the oatmeal and pick up a pastry.

Love all the fresh fruit pastry selections.....
The fresh peach pastry was yummers-
I love that all the pastries aren't covered in sugar crap - just the buttery dough and the sweetness from the fruit is all I tasted and in my opinion all you need.
Staff have always been helpful and don't care if you stare in aww for a long period of time while trying to make a decision.....
I will always patronize Frog Hollow Farm!!!

Sometime you just have to put your instincts aside and trust the professionals.

I ordered the steel cut oatmeal and was offered fresh fruit on top.
    Sure, I said!
When I opened the lid to "dress" my breakfast with a little brown sugar and almond slivers I was suprised to find pears and oranges. ORANGES in my oatmeal? Huh?

Well they were right I was wrong. Delicious!

Ez stop after the ferry ride in.

The folks have the BEST stone fruit and mind-blowing stone-fruit pastries. Their winter pears are also fragrant and intoxicating. Last year's fruitcake changed my mind about what fruitcake is - rich, moist, buttery, boozy and full of intensely flavorful dried fruit. Looking forward to another this year!

We signed up for their new fruit CSA this past summer and have been pleased.

Moving along in my travels Saturday morning would predictably be spent at the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market prior to an impromptu trip north to dine at Cyrus.  Knowing that I did not want to overindulge but wanting to pick up some snacks for breakfast while browsing the bounty of fruits and vegetables that will soon disappear from Ohio for at least five months my first stop of the morning (after enjoying samples of somewhere between ten and one hundred types of plums, strawberries, peaches, and figs) would be at Frog Hollow Farm for a taste of two of their fabled tartlets - the first seasonal blueberries and the second their signature risotto.

Beginning first with the blueberry selection there really isn't much I can say that isn't obvious from a photo - flawless plump blueberries lightly cooked with sugar and lemon zest packed into a flaky pastry crust - it was warm, dense, and the sort of rustic preparation that will never win a beauty contest but doesn't really need to in order to be fantastic.

Moving next to the risotto tart, an item I'd targeted on my previous visit to San Francisco only to find it sold out, the presentation was again rustic but unlike the blueberry option this one was quite unlike anything I've ever experienced; a portable rice pudding with diced currants plus notes of orange, vanilla, and cinnamon dancing across the palate.  Generally more a fan of bread pudding than rice pudding largely because I tend to find the texture of rice pudding a bit too homogenous what particularly enthralled me with this item was actually the toothsomeness of the risotto - soft and creamy yet with each grain still retaining most of its characteristic texture, like a baked version of the riz au lait at L'Ami Jean.

Ok so all you yelpers who internet drooled over the avocado toast on your reviews have totally done me wrong! I feel stupid for paying 7$ for a piece of bread with some avocado on it. Not to mention waiting almost 30 min to get it...after 15min i started to realize id been duped. I knw it gets busy especially on a market day but seriously how long does it take to slice up some avocado and put it on some bread. Its not like youre actually cooking anything...ugh.

I dnt wana steer anyone away frm this place entirely because they have seasonal fresh stuff here that is really good. Im sure the other lunch items are also really good but just dont fall for the avocado toast trap...

***While the line was long, Frog Hollow Farm Market's hot chocolate was one of the best (if not the best) hot chocolate I've ever had***

San Francisco can get cold and it seems to always take me by surprise.  It was cold and I needed a hot drink, but I don't drink coffee or tea.  I was looking for a hot chocolate (any hot chocolate) and I stumble upon Frog Hollow Farm Market, which had a line (but, thankfully, a much shorter line than the one at Blue Bottle).

Frog Hollow Farm Market seems to specialize in coffee drinks (including French press coffee).  They also have pastries and you can order pastries straight from their little pastry cart, which allows you to avoid the long line for coffee.  I didn't have any of their pastries, but (visually) none of them jumped out at me.

I went with their Valrhona Hot Chocolate and they have only one size.  It was a good size and not that expensive.  They even did the foam art on top, which is the first time I've seen that on hot chocolate (though I haven't had hot chocolate that much).  The foam wasn't just pretty though.  It actually provided a good balance to the hot chocolate.

I find that a lot of places go a little too bitter with the hot chocolate by just showcasing a really dark chocolate.  Frog Hollow Farm Market's hot chocolate still had a distinct dark chocolate flavor, but the addition of the foam really helped make the drink much more smoother.

The temperature was right too.  A lot of places make it too hot and the it can really just taste like hot water.  This one was warm enough but also easy enough to drink in big sips.

Service was friendly.  The line moved at a pretty good pace, but there was a little bit of a wait.

The hot chocolate at Frog Hollow Farm Market was better than the one I had at Bouchon Bakery (which was also good).  While I have not had that many of these type of drinks in the past, I think the hot chocolate here makes for a warm and satisfying drink on a cold day.

I'm not sure what the parking situation around The Ferry Building is, but I imagine (like a lot of SF) that the parking is expensive and hard to find.

I've recently gotten hooked on their excellent peanut butter & jam cookies.  Their are filled with a great jam- apricot I think, and this cookie will be my gateway into trying other items.  I've had espressos here and they are excellent as well.  I will be back (maybe today) and I am excited to branch out and try more items from their attractive variety of fruits, jelly/jam and pastry options.  So far, so good!

I wish Frog Hollow was in Chicago. I'd say I wish they were in my neighborhood, but that might be selfish.  Frog Hollow Farm Market may have been my favorite part of San Francisco.

We were looking for a simple breakfast, hopefully outdoor seating, and someone suggested the farmers market at the Ferry Building. After a long walk around we decided on Frog Hollow (in the Ferry Building, not part of the farmers market). I had the berry crisp and a delicious cup of coffee. The crisp was very good, not too sweet, I don't think they added much sugar to those wonderful berries. I had a bite of a yogurt and fruit parfait and also a ham and cheese croissant, both were very good as well.

They have a pretty good sized menu, what got my attention was the mouthwatering pastries on display. It only took one attempt to walk past all the sweet and savory offerings to know I wasn't going to find anything better.

They only have a couple tables outside (I didn't see any inside, this may be different on non-farmers market days) and there was almost an altercation over a couple of the tables. I suggest either showing up bright and early or not expecting to sit down while you savor your breakfast.

Great fresh lunch. The seasonal salad was tasty, but the sizes of the ingredients were not balanced. It was giant peach wedges and large floppy leaves of lettuce. I don't think the lettuce were dried properly to be able to hold the dressing well.

Minus 2 stars for a 45-minute wait when we were the 2nd or 3rd people in line for takeout.

Unfortunately they don't serve their steel cut oatmeal past 11:00am, but fortunately for you (and for me, as was the case yesterday), it just means that you have the opportunity to sample their outstanding lunch menu.

I had one of the most compelling sandwiches here yesterday. Each bite exploded with pronounced fresh flavors. It was a thick Portobello mushroom on lightly toasted Acme Focaccia bread, with lettuce, cabbage, olive tapenade, and blood red oranges. It was absolutely divine and it was handcrafted with undeniable time and care.

Their seasonal sandwich/salad menu rotates regularly, but from their early morning breakfast fare, their organic teas, to their lovely coffee, pastries, dried fruit, and to their jarred fruit preserves,  - I'm sure you will find something here that will delight your palette.

    Trust.

I was lured to this place because of the free pastry with purchase of small coffee on Yelp! However, when I was waiting in line I saw the fine print that I would have to check in here at least twice. So I paid for my coffee and pastry, Oh well. Overall the peach turnover was not too bad and not OMG I can't live without this stuff good.

This place is fantastic!  While I've never tried their baked goods, their conserves are incredible.  It's nice to enjoy jam/fruit preserves without having so much sugar -the authentic taste of the fruit really comes through.  The fruit combinations can be unique and interesting, but they are always really good.  One of my favorites is the Cherry and Strawberry - such a great flavor combination!

They allow you to sample the conserves before you buy them, so it's great to actually experience it a bit before you buy it.

Avocado Toast is a magical invention conjured up by the expert bakers at FHFM. I was expecting, well, I don't know what I was expecting, but when I got two hulking pieces of light crispy baguette topped with an amazingly fresh avocado, olive oil, salt and pepper, I almost fell off my stool. Pure deliciousness. I ate half for lunch and the other half for dinner, and it was the best two meals of the week.

Even though I haven't tasted anything else on the menu I have no hesitation giving up 5 stars, and I will be back again for breakfast soon.

Frog Hollow was a very fortuitous find in the Ferry Building this morning.  I didn't have a particular place in mind to get my morning snack, but I'm so glad I ended up here.

There are so many delicious looking pastries and snack items here.  In the end, I had to go for steelcut oatmeal with conserves though.  You can add your own condiments to the steelcut oatmeal, so I ended up adding apricot and nectarine conserves (i.e. preserves, I don't know why they called it that...) and pecans.  The oatmeal was delicious and hearty, and of course their fruit is just...A++.

However, what I was *so* happy to have had was the absolutely delicious TEA.  They have Red Blossom Tea Co. tea, and I had the absolutely phenomenal **Formosa Red #18**.  Red Blossom Tea Co is an SF company, and this Taiwanese tea, according to their site, it "crosses pure-stock Assam with a native indigenous cultivar. Called "Hong Yu", or "Red Jade" by the local Taiwanese, #18 is a result of nearly 50 years of research by the Taiwanese Tea Research and Extension Station. ... The result is a one of the most interestingly wonderful teas we have tasted. One of our customers likened it to black with cream and sugar already added."

It was the best tea I've had in a LONG time.  Thanks so much for a wonderful breakfast, Frog Hollow!

Their avocado toast is one of the most simple things in the world, but when you use only the freshest and the best, magic happens.  It is simply crusty, fresh bread, toasted, rubbed with garlic and topped with ripe avocado and the best olive oil.  Best lunch ever.

The tarts are delicious too.  A friend of mine came to visit from Florida, and she kept joking (or not) about coming back to visit for the cherry tart she had there.

Do keep i mind that they are very strict about their hours, and if they say they don't have avocado toast until 11:00, and it is 10:55, they may actually make you wait the 5 minutes.  Torture!

Not only fresh and delicious, this farm is really sustainable and smart. They grow organic fruits, make delicious preserves, fill their pastries with fruits and preserves. Such a great establishment. It's like going around in circles. Once you step into the building and smell a great baking aroma, it's definitely coming from this shop. So stop by.

tip: They have the best pears during the fall/winter season.

What I always get in terms of pastries-
    1. Apple Turnover. (better than the cherry one)

    2. Sweet Risotto tartlet. (sometimes they have mini versions of this. But get the bigger one. You need more than just a mere sample.)

    3. Scuffin. (the marriage of scone + muffin. no more dilemma)

    4. Verve Capp of course.

Once in a while they have Avocado Smoothie. Yes, if you see it on the special board, don't think anymore, go with it. Try something different. It's really creamy and decadent! Believe me.

The best peaches anywhere are everywhere. Sliced on top of multigrain bread. Chopped into small pieces for a grilled tofu sandwich chutney. Speared with toothpicks and handed out to people passing by. Not cheap, but the best peaches never are.

All the above best enjoyed on a warm afternoon sitting outside with a view of the brilliant bay.

Snagging a table might require a bit of tablestalking. Don't be shy. Perhaps consider a bribe of peaches. Then again, considering how good they are, perhaps not.

    Amazing lunch.  Seriously tasty food.

I had no idea these guys made sandwiches.  I've always been a fan of their fruit and jams when I'm at the Saturday market.  However, one random Thursday, meeting a friend for lunch, we decided (after looking at the menu next door) to check this out.

I had an amazing braised tofu sandwich and she had pear brioche.  We were both super satisfied for $15.  The salad on the side was really just lettuce... but other than that, my taste buds were super happy with every bite.

Seems like they rotate the menu with whatever is in season.  I'll be making the trip to see what's on the menu a lot more often.  This sandwich really turned my day around.

Just a note that there's not a lot of seating - if it's busy (and also cold outside), that could be an issue.

After you fail to wait till home, go ahead & eat that one too.  Wha, it's technically later.

    So I have to preface...

my parents have a peach tree that produces the best darn fruit I've ever had.  EVER.

Frog Hollow Farm Market at the Ferry Building offers peaches that come in a close second.  I bought two at lunch today ($3.90 a pound) and I just enjoyed one.  It was sweet with a tiny tiny bit of tartness.  Tomorrow or the next day I'll try the second one.  I'm guessing it will be a bit better.  Yum!

They do accept credit cards, but not AmEx.  (That's always -1 star for me)

Sometimes there are just some days where the line at Ferry Building Blue Bottle Coffee is just so ridiculously long that it kills your mood for some coffee.  That's where Frog Hollow comes to the rescue!  Their coffee is just as good as Blue Bottle, and the line is usually half as long, or sometimes barely even a line at all.  They also have a nice selection of pastries to go with your coffee.  Definitely give these guys a chance if you want to try something different or if you can't wait 45 mins for some Blue Bottle Coffee.

Before we head off to the UK, stopped by for some yummy pastries at Frog Hollow Farm Market. Results? We had a winner & a not-so-winner

Winner: Peach-Frangipane Tart - crust was flaky but held up; peach was mushy & flavorful; almond paste was creamy & delish!

Not-So-Winner: Risotto Tart - it was creamy & I was really digging the texture but what killed it for me was the Orange Zest. I LOATHE citrus in my pastries, desserts, or entrees & had I known this had orange in it, def wouldn't have purchased. So my fault for getting.....

If this had, let's say, almond-flavoring instead of the citrus, I'd be a huge fan.....and if YOU'RE a fan of the citrus, I'd highly suggest you get this tart!  The raisins, coconut, & crust combo were incredible!

Granola - crunchy, almondy & honeyie.....would totally get again

Frog Hollow - you set us up right so we can happily take off across the Pond

Whenever I work the Ferry Building Farmer's market, I always start out the day by munching on a ratatouille pastry from the Frog Hollow Farm market.

Perfectly crusty and savory, the ratatouille center is a hodgepodge of mushy vegetables with feta cheese mixed in for a little kick.

My boss always goes for the cheese scone, which I have yet to try. A great place to grab some sweet or savory pastries.

Frog Hollow chronicles Part 5 in the saga "Stephanie Takes Over the Ferry Building, One Bourgeois Boutique at a Time." In Part 4 we had Book Passage http://www.yelp.com/bi... but now what do we say about Frog Hallow?

I walked through frog hollow after lunch intending to purchase a pastry for dessert. The first thing I saw was a shelf of peaches, nectarines and plums for outrageous prices. I'm sorry, I don't care how amazing and organic your fruit is, but no peach is worth $3.90 per pound. that's just crazy. I can probably get those same peaches for $2 per pound or less at the farmers market. Ouch.

I had the peach tart for $4, which was flaky, buttery and delicious, but should have had more fruit for the cost. It was really pastry dough and a tiny amount of fruit that probably amounted to no more than a quarter of a peach (and that's if i'm being generous). It was a delicious fruit tart and I especially liked the almond paste at the bottom, but I've had much better elsewhere.

Now why does Frog Hollow get 4 stars then you may ask. The conserves are AMAZING. They have 12 on sample and the meyer lemon marmalade, the nectarine blood orange conserve and the asian pear chutney are so good, sweet, and amazing. The Nectarine blood orange one was my favorite and I could have eaten it with a spoon (and probably would have if I didn't fear being late returning to work and being reprimanded by the staff for eating an entire jar of jam).

Those preserves are $8 each or 3 for $20 which, when you really compare it to the $3 something per jar you're paying at the grocery store of jam of the same size, really isn't that bad.

I may have to go back for a jar of jam, or 5... even though it is expensive.

The fruit filled tartlets are outstanding.  I had an apple one and my friend Wilhelm Y had a blackberry one that he was nice enough to offer me a bite of.  Loaded with fruit in a light, flaky pastry one tartlet plus a beverage can make a meal.

I looked at the beautiful (and large) organic fruits but did not buy any.  I will return for the fruit pastries however.

Walked around to check out the restaurant across the way and saw this delightful little fruit store. Although the variety of fruit isn't as varied as it could be, the stuff was very fresh. They were giving out samples too.

They also sell a bunch of chutneys which you can try if you have the patience. It's all in jars which you need to open individually, scoop out, recap and repeat.

The display cases offer delectable pastries which you can purchase and go eat somewhere else since there isn't an area where you can sit down right around the store.

I love my mother.  I mean, what's not to love?  She raised both myself (smart-mouthed, I-know-that-and-roll-my-eyes twit) and my brother  (hyperactive, authority-adverse, mouthy, obnoxious) to be reasonably upstanding citizens while juggling a full-time job, moving several times with my father's company, learning to paint and gaining a doctoral degree.  She is sometimes the closest thing to superwoman I know.

So whenever my mother visits and wants to have one perfect peach from Frog Hollow Farms I am pretty much obliged to trek down to the Ferry Plaza to get it for her.  It's like the pregnancy cravings of Rapunzel's mother - whether or not the witch owns the garden I have to satisfy mi madre's need for that fruit.  And let me tell you, their peaches might just be worth giving up first-born children...if I had any.

However, I have two issues with the Frog Hollow Farm shop:

    (1)  Every time we go I end up obtaining not just the lovely (healthy) peach, but also a risotto pastry or orange-chocolate scone or something else that should simply be applied directly to my hips and thighs.  Try to resist - hah!

    (2)  The store sells fruit right there next to the pastries, yet they consistently send us outside to brave the Saturday market crowd in order to buy a peach at the Frog Hollow stand - because the stand has the scale.  ...What?  With the lines that form here on the weekends you can't afford two scales?  Please.

Only for my mother would I come here.  Really.  I swear.

They make drip coffee for you TO ORDER. I feel like a cheater, but when I'm at the Ferry Building this is where I get my coffee. (Sorry you had to hear about it on Yelp, Peet's)

Their pastries are fresh, flaky and made with Frog Hollow Farms fruit. Yum.

The first time I've heard about Frog Hollow it was during one Random Episode between Tim Ferris and Kevin Rose (Aug 2010). Tim was recommending their Blueberry Tart to anyone stopping by the Farmer's market.

Then my Significant Other stopped by this place and like it as well. So today I decided to give it a try. They were running out of Blueberry Tart unfortunately so I get the Avocado toast and it was great.

The food was made from scratch and was tasty. You do have to like avocado as this dish was essentially a whole avocado (with a bit of olive oil and black pepper) that they divided in two toasted slices of green onion bread. Yummy! The bread is probably from Acme bakery!

The place is kind of smallwith very limited inside seatings. However since it is in the Ferry building you can get outside seating with a nice view on the Bay Bridge!

What else to say for this first review? Mmm, I will probably go back to the Ferry building to try their tart later! Their desserts looks great

    ==============================

    Pros:
    - By a sunny day, this place provide nice outside seats with a nice view on the Bay Bridge.
    - Everything is organic

    Cons:
    - Slow food mean that you might have to wait a little bit to get your meal. But this is the price of real food!
    - A very limited of savory option for lunch
