Words cannot describe how much I love Frog & Firkin. I've been going to this place since I was a teenager and it never fails to make me happy. This is a MUST every time I come back to Tucson.
I have a few reasons that this place is awesome:
1. Outdoor beer patio: always has a good crowd of people no matter day or night and you get to people watch everyone strolling down University
2. Food: This is a big one for me. Frog is my comfort food. I used to go for their pizza (which is delicious), but around 1999 I made the switch over to The Hen House and I've never turned back (perfect combo of sweet and savory). Their green fries are amazing, covered with pesto and melted brie.
3. Boozin: This is a fantastic place to have a laid-back drinking session with your friends. They have a fantastic beer menu and their margaritas are solid.
This place has a lot of fond memories for me, and I have a feeling those who love it feel the same way. It's a staple for Tucson.
Let's start off with the good. This place probably has the hottest female staff in town, some really eclectic beers and the best patio in Tucson to day drink and people watch. I've spent many an afternoon sitting out in the sun with friends and watching countless beautiful girls walk by.
On the flip side the food is total garbage and greasier than Jack in the Box. They ripped off Zachary's Pizza and tried to duplicate the pies they make, but in a faster cooking style which produces total crap. If you're one of the few that actually likes Frog and Firkin's pizza go to Zachary's and you'll absolutely love it. Other features include big plates of french fries covered in your choice of cheeses, pesto, marinara sauce and other assorted stuff guaranteed to give you a heart attack by age 40. The kind of food you feel dirty after eating and immediately run home to take a shower. Also they close whenever they feel like it. One night they could be open till midnight or 2 am, the next they're not even open at 8. It's really just hit or miss on weekdays, so you might wanna call ahead.
If you're looking for a place to watch a U of A basketball or football game, or just a place to kill some time on a weekend afternoon I definitely recommend Frog & Firkin, just stay away from the food.
Been to Frog about a billion times but now I get to Yelp them! I like the atmosphere here. It's fun and during game day it's crazy!
The other day nothing much was going on but I wanted to get my beer on. They have a few new beers on tap and Guiness's new anniversary beer. It's good has carbonation and is a whopping $6! You should try it once. I had a slice of pizza and it was delish. Ordered wings but they needed more bbq sauce. All in all, it was good.
We were in the area and decided to stop by Frog & Firkin last evening. The patio was completely full as there was live music, so we had a table inside. Now, did this use to be a house? Does anyone know? Anyway, I digress. I have no complaints about the service. In fact, we had several waitstaff kids come check if we were alright. I had the Hen House sandwich and my husband had the super smothered burger. The food was OK. I wasn't jumping out of my seat, but again, no complaints. Overall, I had a nice time. It's plain to see that it is a great, laid back, hang-out place. I can say with a 100% guarantee that I'm glad there wasn't a Frog & Firkin around my university. I guarantee you that I would have spent waaaaaayyyyyyy too much time (and I'm sure money) there.
Yeah this place was a staple of mine while at the U of A. Great place to just sit outside and enjoy the great Tucson weather during the cool months and drink some brews. A friend and I ended up here last night. We seriously sat sharing a pitcher and some apps for two hours. We chatted it up with our server who was cool as hell and we even scored awesome free tee's too. Now I am gonna be their walking advertisement. for sure. A restaurant name I am ok with wearing on my body.
As far as the food goes. Pizza's and burgers are great. Fries and skins are amazing and my favorite although probably oh so bad. I had the wings last night and while good, they weren't the best I have ever had. The best part is that every time I go I always have some good conversation. Time before last night I met an older couple visiting from the ol' U.K. They were awesome. I have never been let down here.
This was the very first restaurant I went to in Tucson. Came here the night I got in with my folks for college. This place is cool. At night time live bands sometimes join, fun setting, absolutely AMAZING pizza, super deep dish style. Delicious fries, good beer and potato skins galore. Makes me wish I could still live in the desert. Almost.
Great great U of A place. Another popular club meeting spot, but this is more for executive club board meetings since it's pricier, cannot let everybody eat here.
The food is great, and service is by the typical sorority girl as most U of A eateries, ie. your order will almost always be wrong unless you order right off the menu. So, if you want it done your way, wait, they'll mess it up, point it out, they fix it, bitch a little, and they take it off your tab :)
Still, great great pizza. Good drink specials too. Great place to relax and enjoy. Only complaint, the seating is on the outside patio where people smoke and the wind can blow it right in your face, disgusting, especially if it gets into your food. But it's U of A, not a place full of considerate people.
Still, highly recommend it, and good luck with service and smoke. Otherwise this place is great.
One of my favorite UofA bars for day drinking.. Oh I miss those days!
They have a great selection of beers on tap, and a huge patio with lots of seating (but this place gets packed - so it's often to find a seat even though there's a lot available!). The food is pretty good (greasy bar food and pizza, but they put a fun spin on a lot of their menu items).
It's an absolute must if you're visiting the campus. I live in Phoenix now, and whenever I wear my Frog T-shirt everyone always says how much they love this place.
some things change, some things stay exactly the same. FnF has not changed in 10 years and that is a good thing.
Nothing but good vibes here. Good music, well priced drinks and good people.
One of the few Tucson staples that keeps it real and I always have a good time here.
Had lunch and dinner there over a weekend. Thanks to Yelp, I knew that the place was near the campus, and that the staff were students.
Anyway, had the bacon nachos and the hen house sandwich (both times!), paired with a Hefeweizen. Liked it all!
We had lunch here before a campus tour since Jared's sister is considering UofA for college... It was my first time on campus - I was really impressed!
There were 4 of us and we sat outside... I wish I would've done my Yelp research as I would've known to order pizza. Instead, I had a veggie burger smothered. It was just ok. Service was not great... although it was a basketball game day so I know I can't be too harsh! However, when I ordered the artichoke app "to start" and it didn't arrive until well after we all finished our meals, that was a little disappointing!
I would say don't go for the food... the sandwiches and burgers were nothing special in my eyes. Cool scene and love that they put 2 big wide screen TVs outside for those that want to watch the game...
I would go back, but after I check out all of the other cute college bars and restaurants on campus.
I don't go to Frog for the food, though they have a decent menu that everyone in a large group will find something on, and the pizza by the slice is pretty good. I go for the martinis, and specifically the Georgatini. For $7, it's the best martini in town, made with peach schnapps and rum. Sure, not a traditional martini, but I like sugary drinks. I haven't found any special deals on martinis here, but if I did, I be here all the time. For the summer, they have a sing along on Wednesday night, which is fantastic, you must go, 8-11 pm. I try to make it almost every week. The patio is one of the best in Tucson, and the perfect place to get a feel for the city, while sitting under the misters. Drinking a Georgatini of course!
I got to say I like the place and the food but ever since I was served 3 month expired beer (3 months past the expiration date on the bottle!) that tasted terrible, I have not returned.
Frog's never lets me down. I have destroyed my liver here many times while also contributing to a future cholesterol problem with some of their addictive eats.
Great atmosphere, roll-of-the-dice service, extensive beer list and good food. The fries with pesto and brie and pretty fantastic and are a nice accompaniment to a frosty pint of beer.
Crowds can be a pain in the ass here, but that happens at establishments that are doing it right.
5 Stars goes to the Firkin.....Great Atmosphere, Beer Selection and above all location location location!
Stop by to throw down a few on a lazy Sunday afternoon and I promise you won't be disappointed.

Like Erin, I too like to come here for lunch when I'm in town...
Nice little patio area on a pretty good people-watching street!! Sit outside, enjoy the sun, have some inexpensive yet still pretty darn yummy fare, and watch the goofy peeps and shopaholocis do their thing.
Nice place to go to during Happy Hour as well...beer outside...lovely weather...what more can ya ask for?
If you like beer, or food for that matter...Frog and Firken is the place to be. With 50 beers on tap and almost 100 in the bottle...you can't go wrong! (I may be biased because I used to work there) The staff takes great care to focus on customer service even though it might not seem like it because of the crowds. It's locally owned and the owners really do reseach the best up and coming new beers. I learned eveything I know about beer during my two years there as a server. Have a question about beer? Ask your server!! They take quizzes on beer knowledge, believe it or not and they know their stuff!
I'm all the way in San Francisco now and I'd cut off my left pinkie for a Ladi Di and some yellow fries....mmmmmm.
I stopped in while waiting for a flight and they had some pretty good food while I expected basic bar food. My group stuck with sandwiches but we loved the burgers and I had the Newcastle. I expected an Italian sausage, but it was more of the ground sausage on a pizza, however it exceeded my expectations and I'd definitely recommend it.
Kudos for putting the widescreen TVs on the patio so people can watch the sports event of the day.
It's an amazing experience for a San Francisco fog girl to eat pizza on the patio in February in just a tank top and jeans.
I LOVE Tucson weather!
And I love the pizza at the Frog and Firkin. The crusty is nice and chewy with a deliciously oily bottom. MMmmm.
Great place to come meet your friends for those two hour breaks in between classes. I don't think I ever ordered anything besides pizza or a burger. The place can get jammed pack, during school season it's pretty packed all the time, but that's part of the charm. Nothing better than stuffing your face and then trying to stay awake in class.
3 and a half
First off, I am SO glad I read Yelp before heading here-even though a small pizza cost 13.95, I knew it would be a deep dish style pizza and opted for a slice instead-a still steep 4.50, but I wouldnt be able to keep any leftovers.
As each day, month and year passes without a visit to the Frog, a piece of me slowly dies... I love this place. Nothing like sitting on the porch or patio, sipping on a frothy beverage and slamming down a slice of pie. Phenomenal place to perch and people watch. My favorite place in the entire world
One Lady Die please! This place is great but then again it does hold a special place in my heart since I went to UofA. Great place to have lunch and drink outdoors. I could spend hours here, seriously. I really need to get back to T-town to hit up the spots on University.
Awesome Bloody Marys!! Great place to watch Sunday Football. Fun atmosphere!!
Frog & Firkin
Frog has New Belgium Sunshine Wheat on tap. This is sufficient reason for a fabulous rating. Beyond that, they have plenty to offer in the way of great food. Appetizers are solid---definitely try the frog bites. Their salads are massive and crisp. The sandwiches are interesting enough to provide a bit of spin on the average meal, but not too bizarre to turn away finicky eaters. And the pizza---I crave their pizza. It takes a while to cook, but it's well worth it. You can order by the slice or by the pie, but remember this is a good, thick, filling pizza. The toppings are flavorful, the sauce is perfect, and the crust, which so many places fail to attend to, is yum. Even though it doesn't market itself as such, I'd definitely put this in my top 3 pizza places in Tucson. If you heart bacon, you must try the Pheasant Firkin---it is an experience in delicious pork 'n'cheeseness.
As I said, the wait can be long, and it's hard to get a table when it's busy. The indoor seating is pretty lousy, so try to get a table outside even if the wait's a bit longer. The patio seating is nice; there are misters when it gets hot, and it's one of the best places for people watching. I've always had great, friendly service there, even if it's not the most prompt. It's a busy place, so don't blame your server; instead, just order a refill once you get to the halfway mark on your beer and you won't go thirsty.
I'm a graduate student at the University, so there are many times when we hop down University Avenue cruising for places to grab lunch. Frog and Firkin is often that place we wander to only when we've exhausted all the other options on the strip. It's ok. Just ok.
The food is at best mediocre. There aren't many choices, and most of those choices are pretty much the same things with different toppings. The wings are alright, the burgers are ok.
That should give it a three-star rating in my opinion, but every time I've been there (probably a dozen or so) the service has been frankly abysmal. The waiters and waitresses are pretty much never the same people any time I've been there, and it makes sense because they are so close to the University they probably get a pretty high turnover of staff. If turnover isn't to blame for the lackluster service, then the hiring staff needs to be a little more discerning with who they hire and HOW they train them. The seating outside should be a fantastic option with misters for the hotter months of the year, except the blaring music is frankly annoying. You're lured into the place by the promise of eating an outside lunch with friends only to spend 35 minutes listening to loud, crappy music for a restaurant. My last experience there had a light jazz cover of a Paula Abdul song blaring for 10 minutes that literally made me sick to my stomach before the meal arrived. I asked the waitress to please turn the music down because we couldn't hear each other talk, and she did, but it was turned up probably 3 minutes later by someone else. Isolated light jazz aside, the music is too loud 90% of the time that I've been there.
With a theme like "Frog and Furkin," it would seem that you'd get a more publike experience, but it just comes off Junior/Senior University student hangout. Not bad thing in general, just it is was it is. OK.
Great place to have appetizers, drink and just chill with friends.
HIGHLY recommend it.
Both the food and the beer are wonderful here. The variety of beers the have on tap, both domestic and imported, is wonderful!
Great place to have some good grub and share a pitcher.
The pizza's are super yummy, the potato skins are just as good (try the pesto one!!).
The woodchuck apple beer is to die for. even guys love it!
the waitresses are snotty and just want tips... theyll flirt with frat boys for a high tip. anyone else that doesnt look as gullible.. theyll just talk shit about what youre wearing or your hair, etc. superficial, shallow.
all in all... food is great-- the crowd sucks.
The best drink selection near the university, decently priced.
Semi-authentic pub food with some imagination - try the green fries, dripping with pesto and brie.
Arrive early for a primo outside table; the place gets packed quickly!
I love going to this place whenever I'm in town. It's got a great varied menu, and the location can't be beat. I love sitting outside - good people watching location too.
Fun place to eat at if you want to eat near campus. Otherwise, it's not worth it.
Who doesn't like the frog!? I was super dissapointed I didn't have the time to go when I visited last May. All the beers and food are great! They have the misters going on hot days, good to pre-funk before a game, or a weekend afternoon, heck its U of A, its good on a weekday afternoon too!
I read someone saying they have 50 beers on tap. That is an exageration, try maybe 20. The pizza is chicago style and is great. Stick with the pizza and apps you will be alright. The beer selection is ok if you like craft beer. They do have all the american shwill.
this place is great!!! they make fantastic drinks and they play great music. we even ordered an appetizer, frog bites (slices of baguette bread with pesto, garlic and mozzarella). they were so yummy! it's right on university, so it obviously has a young college crowd. but us older folks fit right in fine. =)
pros: nice place.
cons: their handsome male busser staff is distracting all the female customers.
One thing Tucson knows how to do is spray its patio patrons with a fine, cooling mist while they drink hefeweizen with lemon and oggle each other.
Frog & Firkin may be one of my favorite things about college. It's right on University pretty much on campus. They have some of the best salads and sandos you can eat in Tucson. They have a great beer selection, pool tables, tvs, and tons of outdoor seating. If I could have, I would have been here every day during college. The have live music so it's always a chill mellow spot to hang outside and watch a good local band. Every city needs a Frog & Firkin. I could totally go for an Elizabeth's Orzo salad or a Chimney Sweep or Hen House sando right now. YUM!
Great place to sit outside and feel like you don't have a care in the world except to drain a couple of pitchers of beer..... makes me feel like I am in college again. The Fox pizza is pretty damn good too.
Frog and Firkin is great for beer and pizza or if you think college kids are hilarious and you can't get enough of them. In the summer I would give it five stars.
