Review from Kiki J.
Vallejo, CA
I love the feel of this place. Good atmosphere. Open design. Unique, intriguing art (and not too much of it) on the walls. Interesting wallpaper in the back. Candles on the tables.
I walked in here with a friend at around 10:00 on a Saturday night. There were probably ten other people eating/drinking/talking in the place.
I had the hot chocolate ($3) and my friend had the mango iced tea (I don't know, $2.50?). We sat in the back room at a table near a sculpture of a woman with bathroom fixtures on her body. There was enough noise that we could talk without feeling like people were listening, but not so much that we had to talk loudly.
They kind of forgot about my hot chocolate but the lady was really nice about it when I came to ask what the delay was. The drink was sweeter than I'd like, but warm and tasty in its wide mug on a saucer. I enjoyed it. As for the mango iced tea, he didn't really like it but he drank it all. It wasn't that sweet, and he'd expected sweeter.
We lost track of time while we were talking, and they let us stay at least 30 minutes past closing time, which was quite nice of them.
I'd love to come back and actually try the food sometime. Definitely marking this spot for Mission-area munches. -

This place is nothing special.
I was standing near the order counter, reading the menu on the wall. "Want a menu?" the guy behind the counter asks. "Uh, sure," I said, confused as to how the hand-out menu differs from the perfectly legible one on the wall.
The two sauces I selected were brought to me in sealed plastic to-go containers, even though I'm eating there.
The fries were nicely cut and cooked, except they had the distinct taste of over-used frying oil.
The sauces were okay.
The chandeliers don't match the decor and the dance music. -

ugh...loud techno music and the fact that there are just WAY better options available.
the saving grace would be the belgian fries and their wide array of sauces.

There are no words. This place is a little piece of heaven and I didnt even come for the fries. I had the mussels and my fella went with the burger. Can you of home awesome mussels in gorgonzola, bacon and shallots taste.....I imagine it is what Jesus sweat tastes like. Just sayin.....
I will be back for sure, so much more great stuff to try on the menu! -
Review from Sofia R.
I decided a long time ago that I wanted to try this place out so when the opportunity came I went for it.
The place wasn't what I pictured it to be like, but it's quite nice. Pretty interior, friendly workers, interesting menu. Out of excitement, my friend and I ordered large fries with strawberry mustard and chipotle remoulade, half and half (Arnold Palmer's, basically), a basquiat sandwich, and the lichtenstein crepe.
Our orders arrived fairly quickly. The fries came first. I'm usually not really big on fries (especially thicker cut), but these ones impressed me. They stayed crispy and tasty even after leaving it be for a while. The sauces were great too, though my personal favorite was the strawberry mustard. Strong mustard taste with a slight sweetness from the strawberries. UGH. Delicious.
The basquiat sandwich was average to me. I feel like it was a pretty standard sandwich. The crepe was not everything I expected it to be either. Lots of strawberries but not much of everything else that was promised. A disappointment.
Food was alright. Satisfying. We left, but came back because we were so curious about their drinks.
We ordered a big ass mimosa and peach soju respectively. Both are really good. I recommend especially because they were pretty cheap for the size (at least for the mimosa).
Cool place. I plan on going back to try a lot of the other things on their menu! -

Grabbed a quick lunch on a Monday. It was fairly empty but it was about 11am. Got the mussels with the garlic tomatoe base, fries and a burger.
Fries were really good, tasted super fresh with crispy outside. We picked the chipotle mayos and bacon mayo - both were delicious
Mussels were very tasty and the bread on the side was perfect for dipping into the broth.
Didn't care much for the burger that was dry and bland. Even bacon mayo could not save it.
Order at counter and food gets dropped off, that is the extent of service~ -

Frjtz fries are AH-MAZING! true fry heaven for all those potato lovers.

i tried it spicy as well, but honestly its just a waste of .50
cant even TASTE the darn spiciness!
its made to order i believe because it always comes out burning the roof of my mouth! its okay, i love to eat stuff when its THAT hot!
favorite sauce so far? the rasberry habenero. MY GODDD! its divine!
they also have a lot of other selctions to choose from besides fries, but im always too full to eat anything else. This is always just a little snack stop for me. Will try the other stuff of the menu some other time. -

You know what? I stumbled into Frjtz while hanging out on Valencia, and I like it. A lot.
How can you not love a restaurant with:
* a wide variety of gourmet burgers
* crispy fries, enough to share
* delicious dipping sauces
* cool, trendy atmosphere
While a little pricey for me to stop for lunch, for dinner the prices are reasonable for the funky, yet casual atmosphere. I'm glad to be adding this one to the rotation of favorites in the Mission. -

This is about the Hayes Valley location, but I imagine it applies to the other(s), since the menu looked standard.
Three of us went, and we all had a different dish: an omelette, savory crepes, sweet waffle. Portions were very small, especially as related to the price. The "goat cheese and tomato, etc." crepe tasted like cardboard, and there was hardly anything to it.
The sweet pears waffle tasted about as good as you'd expect at IHop.
The omelette I didn't taste, but it was tiny.
Won't go back. -

My love affair with Belgian food began after unexpectedly ending up in Belgium while on a layover in Europe. I was delighted to discover how amazing their cuisine is! I enjoyed my time there so much I ended up staying a couple extra days. So I was super stoked when I stumbled into Frjtz one day to find ALL of my favorite Belgian selections in one place!
I have gone back dozens of times excited to try everything possible. The mussels, the fries and their heavenly dipping sauces, the crepes, awesome brunch menu, and not to mention their beer selection were all super awesome! I have never been disappointed.
I am also big on atmosphere when I go out to eat and this place is well designed. There is a fun seating area at the front window (great for people watching), tables out on the sidewalk, and they display some pretty cool artwork as well.
The staff is friendly and they give good recommendations in case you are overwhelmed trying to decide what to order because everything looks soooo good like I sometimes am ;)
So go check it out! -

Being Belgian, I often crave for fries....
However, Fritz fails at satisfying me. Their fries are certainly not prepared the Belgian way (i.e: fried twice) and are just tasteless and dry.
There is nothing Belgian at all in that place!
I am happier with the fries I make from scratch in my own deep fryer... -
Review from Eric A.
A bit expensive. I wanted to use a Google Offer here, but noticed it was for Hayes Valley, not the one in the Mission.
I would definitely try Umami Burger in the Marina before coming here. The Sauces that came with the Fries are overrated. -

Came here on a random weeknight just to grab a burger and beer with a friend. I admit, it was a little bizarre with the light color changes in parts of the room. (I'm talking bright pink, to neon green, to blue or something).
I ordered the Venice burger since I'm a 'shroom burger fan. They have a standard burger in which you pay extra to make it more special. The burger was decently sized, not too small nor big. Belgian fries are new to me and not bad at all. Good beer food. Be sure to get their dipping sauces! They have a bazilion of them and I only tried two at the time: Smokey honey mustard (just okay) and chipotle (not bad).
I think I'd try other dipping sauces and their brunch or crepes next time. -

Fries were okay and crispy, but not Belgian or Dutch standard by any means. Definitely too thick-cut.
The mussels we had were delicious, though. My dinner companion really enjoyed her burger.
Frankly the best part was the dining room decor and art , which was really fun. -

I am going to give it 4 stars, but only because I can't give it 3.5 using this interface and because it really is what Frjtz deserves. This place is consistently delicious, if not a little lacking in their cleanliness and allure. Any place that employs an 'order at the counter and get a little number on a stick at which point we will track your ass down when your food is ready but that might take a while because we spent our money on this huge dining room but not enough people to staff it appropriately' system is setting themselves up to fail at customer service, intimacy and creativity. That being said, I can't imagine Frjtz redeeming much of that becuase you don't want to fuss to much over a menu as simple as their's. Crepes & waffles (savory and sweet), fries, standard brunch, espresso, beer...its good. its solid. If you are hungry and you wanna drop less than $15 in the Mission, roll through for sure. But do not bring your date there if you think they want a 'dining experience'. The decor is actually pretty cool, a compliment that cannot be extended to their branch in Hayes Valley, but beware the hour before closing when the floors haven't been swept all day and the kitchen staff has changed 3 or 4 times and tables fail to even pretend they've been sanitized recently. But really, that's what an open-all-day joint is good for...food. to eat. all day long.
I would recommend this place if you're going for a Crepeville feel, you're hungover or your little sibling is in town and they don't have good taste yet anyhow. -

I've never been to the one in the Mission but frequented the one in Hayes Valley quite often. It's such a great little place to "duck in" at any time to enjoy what is always a great meal. The fries are awesome and go out of your comfort zone to try their great little dipping sauces. The "Duchamp" is by far my favorite crepe there.....roasted chicken, spinach, and mushrooms. YUMMY!

What do all of these things have in common? UGH, why didn't I think of this and make a TON OF MONEY? The concept of selling "fancy" french fries and adding a bunch of different "exotic" sauces is such a no brainier. Luckily this place executed the idea very well. But seriously, Frjtz falls under a category of things that make me cringe, only because I should have thought of this first. I should just stick to song writing, at least it'll cost less money trying to execute. Seriously though? Have you listened to the radio lately? It's a bunch of Jersey Shore juice head house music with bonehead lyrics. Catchy, but even a two year old can write songs and become a famous record producer.
I'll just stick to being a lazy dreamer.

Review from Jett J.
San Francisco, CA
This place is way expensive for the quality of food. I ordered a Belgian waffle with two poached eggs, and a orange juice (which it is not fresh made and is rather cheap tasting, Kirkland signature).
My waffle was not close to being Belgian in taste, it was salty, and no crispy texture to it. The eggs were rather plain tasting, no seasoning and even though they had done some sort of sauce and placed it on top it was not tasty at all.
I payed 17.50 for all of this.
I would only recommend this place if you are starving and have no where to go, which there are plenty of place on Valencia st that will satisfy your hunger much better than this place. I should have went to El Toro Taqueria instead, GRRR!
Anyway, if your willing to waste some money and over pay for the lack of cooking go here.
I won't ever go back and would not recommend it! -

Fritz has an awesome variety of something so random: ketchup and dipping sauces. You order some friends and the dipping sauces that you want (in very interesting flavors like Thai ketchup) and boom! you have a perfect snack to munch on.
I like that they have outdoor seating where you can enjoy a beer and some fries and people watch the hotties on Valenica. -

The fries are fry-tastic. The ONLY reason this is getting 3 stars instead of 4 is because their crepes are a bit dry.
But my friend's waffle looked especially delicious from across the table!

Made a reservation (unnecessary) but they had the table ready for us, which was nice. Food was OK for the price. Mussels were a hit, salads were very large. Good casual place to go but would probably choose elsewhere for value.

Review from Shadi N.
Los Altos, CA
After getting over the serious attitude problem of the cashier and being rushed into ordering 2 of their 50 sauces to go with my fries (one of which ended up being incorrect). I received my burger. The delivery was timely, and the patty was still sizzling - awesome! But my first thought was, wow these guys did some serious false advertizing.
When you walk into the store there are two ginormous pictures of their hamburgers up on the wall, burgers with 3 inch thick patties and juice oozing out, my patty was about the same thickness as in n out. Not trying to pay 12 dollars for an in n out burger, sorry.
Ok so here is the layout.
I ordered burgers, fries, mussels and their lemonade.
Burgers - 5/10
Fries - 7/10 (if u like steak fries...and they needed salt)
Mussels - 10/10 ordered the shallots wine and garlic - they were simple and delicious
Lemonade - 10/10 delicious not too sweet
+1 cute trendy atmosphere
+1 outdoor seating
+1 lots of sauce selections (i'm all about the condiments)
+1 fast service after you place your order.
+1 fun burger options / delicious mussels
-1 rushed service and attitude from cashier (even with no one else in the restaurant)
-1 false advertizing of size - small tasteless burger(lots of fillers in the meat)
-1 dirty tables, no plastic containers for ketchup - a general disorganized messiness
The main reason they are getting 1 star is the service, 2nd is burger and fries are simple, get it right. And, if you have 700 sauces on your menu, give you customer the RIGHT one. -

Belgian style fries and good beer. Who could not love this place?
Every time I have the craving for fries this is my go to place. There are tons of different options for the sauces but even just plain mayo tastes great on these (maybe it's my European descent speaking). For those not used to Belgian style fries they are rather thick cut on both sides and are usually fried twice. The beer selection is small but they have some quality selections. There are wine options for those not keen on beer and they have other food options which I have never tried. They all look great but I tunnel vision on the fries every time I walk near the place. -

I love fries. I'm a simple gal. The fries were very nice, the server (1 of 2 staff members last night) brought me regular fries when I had ordered sweet potato fries ("healthier"). Then when I asked him about it, he promptly brought out piping hot sweet potato fries and let us keep both. HOLY FRY OVERLOAD! Delicious! It was pressure to pick one sauce at the counter - I think I needed to study the menu before stepping up in line. My fault for holding up the queue.
We had a Duchamp crepe and the mussel special - delicious broth at the bottom of the bowl. Perfect to dunk with the extra fries....Next time we'll try the burgers! Burgers are from Belgium?
The decor is very girly, white furniture, crystal chandeliers, wallpaper but then the counter is pure industrial no nonsense - its like two people decorated their parts of the restaurant. -

I will have to admit.. the first time i came here i was totally in love with the place, wonderful mussels, great thick cut fries, interesting decorations and whatnot.
came again a few times, and just like some of the other yelpers noticed, the food is of a lower quality. a bit of the mussels were a bit stringy, some overcooked, and the majority of my fries were little tiny bits, much like the crumbs at the bottom of a potato chip bag in comparison to the rest of the chips.
prices are a bit high for what it is, i basically spent whopping 26$ for moules frites and a beer.
the only redeeming quality are the dipping sauces, i had white truffle artichoke ketchup and chipotle remoulade, both of which i enjoyed.
Their hayes valley location is much more comfortable. -

I have been to this place a few times over the past three years during my time in SF, and the food has been gradually getting worse over time. I always get the curry mussels (Sukhothai) with an order of Belgium fries and dipping sauce, and I'm pretty sure I won't be returning ever again.... I found some stringy remnants attached to my mussels and was very disappointed that my overpriced $13 mussels were not cleaned properly. Also, the mussels were overcooked and tough, and the curry sauce lacked the kick that I remembered it having.
I gave this review an extra star, because I enjoy the trendy decor and somewhat obscure artwork on the walls. I just wish the bathrooms were not so dingy (graffiti on the walls, broken tile chips, toilet paper on the floor, etc). -
Review from Skye W.
I love how they named their menu. I've had the mussels and fries here- not alot of places serve mussels, so this place is key. Last time I went I wanted something lighter so I settled on the Gaugain salad, which I might add is one of the weirdest mix of stuff a salad can have- smoked salmon, macadamia nuts, mangoes, avocado. I wonder if they wanted it to seem Tahitian to match the name. Anyway, the salad was a decent size and it was surprisingly good. I also love that they place weird language learning tapes in the bathroom. Quirkly, fun, and yummy food.

This place is dingy, the fries are GROSS and the sauces that sound oh so gourmet are oh so not. They really taste like they came out of a can. In fact they all seemed to come from the same family of "food products" as cheeze wiz and were kept in the fridge so that they are hardly dipable.
Fries were made from frozen (watched them pull the bag out of the freezer), and they pretty much tasted like ass.
There is one person who is capable of taking orders and you have ot wait for her to schlep over to the register.
I would not EVER come back here even if I was drunk, high, and date rape drugged. This shit is nasty. STAY AWAY. -

OMG! OMG!!! Why do fries have to stay on my hips forever and ever??!! I love the fries here!
I'm in luck though, because their mussels and salads are just as amazing. :) I am a big fan of their iced tea.
I love their decor and the zombie tip jar too.
I come here for lunch during the week often...maybe too often. I should get a side job here. -

San Francisco, CA
I had to come home quick so my raw emotion doesn't mellow as days pass. For a place that touts how great their fries are even in their name, you'd think they were amazing...they were fries pure and simple, served 'belgian style' with some sauces. Big whoop. Should have known a place bragging about their fries can't have anything else going for it but we took the chance. Got this nasty tuna sandwich that I only ate half of, and my gf got a vege burger...vegetarians beware, it's deep fried and nasty. After a game of tennis, and starving, we left there...well starving. Didn't even finish our meals.
The kitchen is also nasty looking...put up a wall if you aren't going to keep your floors clean! You're in the mission, there are soooo many better places. -

Ok. I've come here one or two times before and have liked the salads and the array of dips that come with the fries. However, after my recent trip here, I will not be coming back here again. The place has just really gone downhill. Here's a bullet point list of the reasons why:
-Ordered garlic fries, got plain fries. had to send back. The table next to us also had to send back their fries for the same reason.
-A pigeon straight up flew into the restaurant and fluttered around in there the entire time i was there. Lord knows how many disgusting particles and germs it might have spread inside.
-My salad was overly drenched in dressing and the leaves were so oily they were inedible.
-They completely forgot to make my boyfriends food and I sat there waiting for a good 30 minutes.
-The decor is old and worn out and really dirty. Not to mention the god awful art that adorns the back room.
The entire time I was there, I just kept thinking about how Robert Irvine from Restaurant Impossible would just be face-palming in complete disappointment. -

Boy am I glad Cha Cha Cha's was closed when my friend and I were meeting up for a late lunch this last Friday.
I had the Degas sandwich, it was so good, but that's because I am obsessed with chipotle aiole, which is basically La Morena Chipotle sauce sour cream and mayo, but I love it just the same, on fish tacos or a steak sandwich! It really hit the spot, with roasted red peppers, melted cheddar, onions, and cilantro. I ate the whole thing, and didn't feel bad about it. It kept me full all night too so I saved money and calories on force feeding myself a dinner that night.
The fries were ok, I don't really like the thicker cut kind, I'm more of a extra crispy McDonalds style fry girl, but I had the chipotle/truffle oil fries and they were very good.
The price was very agreeable as well. $14 for the sandwich with a side salad, the fries and a lemonade.
I would give this place 5 stars but I have to go back at least 2 more times and try a few more things. But so far, "yay! I'm a fan." -

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had in the City, and I am not a picky person. This place better not last another couple of months. It is way overpriced, for everything! You can't charge prices like that for sub-par food with no full-service. The basic burger is $10, any addition to the burger is $2.50 minimum; want fries....$5 for a small. With tax and tip your burger and fries are a whopping $20!!! If you want a drink then make it a cool $23!! The food was gourmet dog food.....nothing Belgium that I saw except for a wild gimmick out of control! Belgium fries aren't steak cut! Unfriendly service, rotten tomato on my bun, terrible cole slaw, and the place is dirty. I wish there was a minus point rating because this was below zero! Never again! See my photos on the burger they advertise versus what you get.

Today was my first visit to Frjtz. It was a great experience! I met some of my team mates from the upcoming Napa to Calistoga Ragnar Relay race team so we could get to know one another and enjoy a Belgian waffle or crepe.
This place is in the Mission, great location. Good parking available on the street, despite it being Pride Day. Amazing.
We ordered:
The mimosa kit, $28 for fresh squeezed orange juice cruet and a bottle of Salmon Creek sparkling. Yummy and we got 6 mimosas out of the kit.
The ROGIER Belgian waffle, with fresh strawberries, bananas, nutella (yes, nutella Jennifer L.!) and whipped cream
This was the LAST belgian waffle they had, so I selflessly allowed my friend to have it and asked the nice nice lady behind the counter to put the makings for the BIZET waffle (Swiss cheese, mushrooms and chipotle sauce) into a buckwheat crepe...and she did so. SO delish.
A CLAUDEL dessert crepe with brown sugar, cinnamon, apples and whipped cream (I held the almonds). Fabulous
An order of regular fries with chipotle sauce, balsamic sauce, spicy Thai ketchup and dill sauce. The fries were not so much to my taste...too thick cut but everyone else seemed to really Ike them. I should have gotten the garlic fries.
The bathroom is not as clean or fresh smelling as much as I'd like...so I almost went to 3.5 stars, but the food and the service and the ambiance really pushed me up to 4.
They have other locations in the City and around the Bay. I will go back!
