Friendly SMOG Test Only

I took my car here because I live like 2 minutes away. I was told the smog check would cost 59.99. I was like sounds on par with other smog check places... Test went fine, car passed, went to pay, I was charged $70.... I was like huh? He didn't factor in the States SMOG certificate fee (8.25) and he stuck in a 2 pretest fee? I didn't ask for a pretest! I was upset at the fact that this guy quoted me a price that's the same for other testers in the area, then added his stuff on top. This is dishonest to me.

So my other car needed a SMOG, so I went 2 blocks up the street to Quick SMOG Check Center. The test there was 55 plus 8.25 (certificate fee) and a 1.75 Xfer fee. But the best thing was the guy that works there told me the price out the door. He said $65. Got to love honesty and upfont-ness.

I strongly recommend you drive 2 blocks up the street and save $5... =)

Although not too conveniently located on a main road, this little shop is still easy to find tucked away across the railroad tracks off of Lafayette since there are smog test signs on Lafayette.

The prices are fair since they advertise specials on Craigslist ($34.95 at the time of the writing) and also do price matching and take competitors coupons if you bring in a print out or advertisement.

The local shop owner, Jimmy, is both knowledgeable and friendly.  Over the past two years, he has been more than willing to share his knowledge of how to get a vehicle to pollute less, increase gas mileage, and most anything else having to do with air-exhaust tuning.  The best part is that he works quickly and doesn't mind staying a bit past the shop's closing time to ensure that you can get your smog test.  I was in and out of there in less than 15 minutes for a comprehensive test!
