124 reviews for Friendly Plumber
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
My fiance has been using Friendly Plumber for his house for over 8 years. For me, it's my second year with them. The best thing that we both appreciate about this company though, is their professional handling of matters.
One time, there was a most unfortunate blockage on our guest toilet and when I called them, I was discreetly told by the receptionist that their plumbers were much too skilled for those type of problems. They can come-out the same day off course, but she just wanted to let me know that there are actually rooter-type companies in the phone book that specialize in such instances, at very reasonable prices.
Because their plumbers are much more skilled, then off course at this particular instance, theirs might be a higher charge. She said she just wanted to let me know ahead of time, just so I wouldn't be disappointed. They were professional and straightforward, and didn't pull any punches. Impressive, and much appreciated!
The next project I had them tackle was a major bathroom and kitchen remodel. I think the price I was charged was very fair, considering I literally had the two rooms flip its floorplan. I had a jacuzzi installed, plus an eight burner stove.
It has been an absolute pleasure using my new appliances and I am thankful for my fiance's discovery of Friendly Plumber.
This company is the best...they told me straight-up what was wrong and was honest, without pulling any punches. I recently had two problems at my house. One they couldn't fix because it was a stopped-up toilet. They apparently do not do these, because I was told that I would actually get a better price from companies who specialize in stoppages. They did refer me to another company who did charge me a good price, so they were right.
The second problem I had was that my water heater needed replacement. This one was done in less than half a day, which was very impressive. The plumber did an excellent job, was polite and gave my wife and I a lot of tips on what to do in case we run into problems in the future. I will recommend this company to other people. Good Job!!
BUYER BEWARE
I would never recommend these people for anything and here's why: I had them in for a leaky bathtub faucet. They gave me a quote for work that was going to cost me about $600 for them to replace the tub and shower fixtures and another $500 for the contractor to rebuild the wall. I called a handyman friend to ask for advice. He changed the rubber gasket in the faucet for **less than a dollar** and the problem was solved. That was months ago and it hasn't leaked since.
Oh, and why was the faucet leaking in the first place? Because Atlas plumbing had put in the wrong kind of gasket a few months before that, probably knowing it would soon fail.
From now on, I call my friend first.
EDIT: Okay, I'll give more details about why I object so much. I think they should have seen that the immediate problem was with one small part failing because it was the wrong kind, rather than a serious failure of the system requiring complete replacement. The valve per se did not fail, the gasket did.
It seems that they did not look closely enough into the matter before making a very costly recommendation; that's my main objection, and to me, that's a very serious one. Regardless of their intentions, I felt as though they were trying to take advantage of me. It's like going to the doctor for a splinter and being told the whole finger has to come off.
Maybe it was an honest mistake, but I'd rather have a plumber who investigates the simple solutions first. To me, this would demonstrate that that they have my interests in mind.
(Just for accuracy's sake, it was more than a free estimate I got. I paid about $75 to have the faucet capped to stop the leak; I am not complaining about that, it was my choice. I can imagine that an alternate temporary fix he could have offered for a similar price would have been a new gasket, but it was never mentioned because he never looked.)
I'd give 6 stars if I could. I wanted to get a new toilet and looked on Yelp for a good plumber. Rob's high reviews are deserved. I called him and and he talked me through how to determine the right size to order. I ordered, a few weeks later arranged for him to install.
The install went great but there was a leak in the tank. I got a new valve assy from the mfg and he came back to install it. Also gave me great references for other trade professionals for other work I needed. I'm sure I'll hire them in the future!
I had Friendly Plumber install a sink that I bought from Ikea. It turned out that my sink was missing a few pieces. The plumber that came to our house was great. He supplied us with the missing parts without giving us a hard time. He was very professional and courteous.
Great service. Very professional and friendly. I never felt as though I should be concerned about being taken advantage of. Service was prompt and complete. Pricing was very fair.
My experience with Friendly's installation on my new water heater was excellent. Considering the old one went out immediately after I got back from vacation, things could have turned out drastically different.
Robert arrived on time, was thorough, professional, and managed to keep me informed over the phone about the developments on the job and when I could expect him to be finished.
Per our earlier agreement, he called me to go home about 1/2 an hour before completion (I work 10 minutes away from my house), and he took the time to walk me through what he did and gave me some recommendations on how to maximize the efficiency of my new water heater.
I would highly recommend Robert and this company to any of my friends.
My kitchen faucet sprung a leak the other day. Literally "sprung a leak", right at my eye.
I called Friendly Plumber and Robert was on time, at my door, the same day. Detail oriented, he showed me the part that caused the leak, and replaced it without a hitch in under an hour - now that's professional!
I really resent paying for house expenses since I'd rather party with my extra money, to be perfectly honest. I feel I was charged a good price and was treated nicely, so I'm cool with this company.
Robert of Friendly Plumber is simply phenomenal! My restaurant's water heater went out around 9 o'clock, last Tuesday evening. I emailed Friendly in hopes they could get to me first thing in the morning. To my surprise, they called me first, beating me to calling them. By 12 o'clock that day, a commercial water heater was in place, replacing my busted one.
This water heater was placed on top of a walk-in cooler and I'm positive no other plumber would have touched this job because I went through the exact same thing last time it was replaced. I called around, got several companies to come out and give me a quote, and the end result was that I was getting everything from completely relocating the water heater, to trying to bust open through the other side of my wall, which is an impossibility since I don't own that unit.
This time, Robert got the job done for me and that's all I care about. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and the consummate professional. He carefully explained his proposed solution to me and clearly described all my options of the way this can work.
Personally, I think he went above and beyond the call of duty when he spotted other plumbing problem areas around the restaurant and proposed solutions for me to get it fixed myself. Robert knew of my budgetary restraints, and I think it was really nice of him to point me in the right direction. As he said, he doesn't want to see a small problem now, turn into a big one. He referred me to a couple of supply houses where I can purchase the materials myself, and I was able to get my husband to fix those problems, because his labor was free after all.
Robert is not only excellent and skilled at what he does, but he seems to really enjoy what he does as well. He left my restaurant perfectly clean at the end of the job, so no mess for me to deal with afterwards. Such a boon -- thanks a million!!!
My brand new bathtub started leaking from the pipe last week, so I called the homeowner warranty people because this behemoth is not even a month old. The customer service person said that my situation did not warrant an emergency call. I suppose they want it to keep leaking so much more to drill a hole through the floor, then maybe it would be considered an emergency. Nevertheless, they told me their repair technician would not be able to come out for another week. If you ask me, this homeowner warranty thing is just a huge racket!
I remembered talking to one of my bosses about his double sink getting repaired recently and so he put me in touch with Friendly Plumber, the company he used, and within a couple of hours, Robert squeezed us in the same day to come out and look at my tub.
When he arrived, he proceeded to inspect it. He asked a lot of questions about who uses the tub, when it is used, how often, when did I see the leak; and after all this, he quoted me a price for testing. He tested the thing and found the leak after half an hour. It seemed very difficult to find, so I'm glad I had a professional on my side. Apparently, this is the reason the leak was so inconsistent. I'm glad he was able to find it too because otherwise, I would have had to open up my Carrara marble tile walls and it would have been very, very, very expensive.
I can't say thank you enough to Friendly Plumber. I imagine any reliable repair company could have done this job, but unlike other places, Friendly answered the phone quickly, called me back when they promised, and had someone out the same day to appease my concerns.
When the front and back office operations are that efficient, I know I'm not getting special treatment because of my boss' referral either. It seems their business is simply very well run.
I recently bought my very first condo and I am a proud new homeowner. Even though it is just a studio, it suits me perfectly because I am single and have no plans to constantly clean. I pay the bills, and that's enough.
Anyway, I've had several occasions to use Friendly's services lately. Rob's first visit was to replace my leaky kitchen faucet. At least I wanted it replaced, until Rob talked me out of it.
He said that my faucet is Made in Italy, designer made, and costs approximately $1,250 retail (only a professional would know that off-hand) and to replace it with the $80 Delta faucet I bought at Home Depot would set back the value of my house fixture. He said I really should watch to make sure that I keep what's good, and ditch the bad, or at least replace it with a much better model to keep up my property value.
In the case of my faucet, it just took a new washer to stop it from leaking. After I returned the faucet I bought, I was still substantially ahead considering I was able to keep my original faucet.
While Rob was at my house working on the faucet, we got to talking that one of the only things that was a big disappointment for me was that I still had to do my laundry in the building basement. I always thought that after I buy my own place, I would be completely free from communal laundry. Now I have to wait at least two more years until I can upgrade to a house WITH a washer/dryer. After hearing this, Rob asked if he could take a tour. I thought it was nice of him to be glad for me and my new venture, but he really didn't have to go "all metro" on me.
The tour lasted 5 minutes, but was time wisely spent because Rob was apparently looking for a way to help solve my laundry issue. He pinpointed that if I empty my linen (a.k.a. junk) closet, a stackable washer/dryer unit can easily fit that space. He said he too had tight budget concerns, but he bought his own washer/dryer from a company called Airport Appliance in Hayward, and he was able to buy a stackable, energy-saving model for under $1,500 out the door with rebates.
To make a long story short, I went to Airport Appliance that same day and bought my own washer/dryer, which was delivered the next Tuesday. They were having a sidewalk sale too, which saved me even more because my dryer costed me $400, and the washer $975. Rob installed the hook-ups and both units the same day and I really appreciate Rob's persistence in helping me get what I never knew I could have. Thanks a lot Rob, your fantastic attention to detail really earned my patronage from now on.

Great experience! Robert took his time on the estimate, came back for a small job, which turned into having to replace all our gas pipes. He felt bad seeing my despair and time crunch (parents coming into town two days later), and offered to return to complete the job the following day - a Saturday!!!
Will recommend him to anyone!
My husband and I came back from a great holiday to a water heater that overflowed my basement. Thank goodness this happened while we were already in town or we surely would have been in trouble.
Robert, the plumber who worked on our heater was as friendly and professional as can be and offered lots of advice on securing our house next time so that this will never happen to us again.
While chatting, I learned that he too just got back from vacation, from the very same place no less. Small world!
Just what I needed.
After several months of struggling to understand why my garbage disposer was incorrectly installed, and constantly leaking, Robert fixed the problem with ease.
He arrived on time, lived up to the name, and was fast and affordable. He was also very clean and thorough, making sure everything worked perfectly before leaving. He also explained everything that was done incorrectly so I wouldn't make the same mistake again.
It was a simple job, but enough to prompt me to Yelp for the first time in awhile. I will certainly use his services again next time.
I was referred to Friendly Plumber by my neighbor when my kitchen sink, bathtub and sewer backed up.
I called and found out that they don't work on stoppages, so that's what they mean by stoppage, but they did refer me to another rooter company who had really good customer service too.
I did though use Friendly Plumber to put in a new sewer for my house. I'm a relatively new homeowner, so it was important for me to be able to trust my contractor.
I got several bids for the job and was at first convinced that I should try to find a company who offers the pipe replacement without disturbing the ground. After talking with Robert, he informed me that the city doesn't always allow that type of plumbing, it wouldn't be up to code and would never pass inspection. Strange, the other plumber before him said that he does it all the time in the city and he highly recommends it. I called the Department of Building Inspection's Plumbing Department to make sure because I really hate being on the fence with conflicting recommendations, but I was told with all authority that yes, in my area, that was definitely not allowed. Can you believe this? What if I went with that guy and in the end my job wouldn't pass?
Anyway, I promptly called Friendly Plumber back and they were able to squeeze me into their schedule. Robert re-routed the path of the pipes to avoid having to dig-up my ultra-cool espaliered apple tree, which I appreciate. He was very professional throughout the entire process and I'm very thankful for my neighbor for the last minute recommendation. Thanks Larry, I owe you one dude!!!!!!
Rob of Friendly Plumber was fantastic. He was prompt, upfront about costs and explained everything clearly. He was neat, efficient, helpful, informative and all around great. I will TOTALLY use Friendly plumber again if and when I need them.
FYI, I used them to add a gas line so my gas dryer could be hooked up in our basement.
So happy I called them!
Friendly came over our house again yesterday and replaced 2 toilets for us. We've had the old ones forever and since one had a slow leak and both use so much water, Friendly recommended that it's high time we do our bit for the environment, plus save ourselves a lot of dough at the same time with our water bill since it was over $700 last month.
At first, the plumber went around the house to make sure we don't have any other leaks, and he found that it really was just those that's the culprit. We hope to see a big difference in our bill next month.
According to my wife, yesterday's plumber was just professional and well spoken as last time. We're well impressed overall with this company.

I found out about this company through a friend at work and judging from the reviews here too, I'm glad they're the first one I called to fix my leaky toilet. The plumber who came over was ultra professional and uniformed, he immediately went to diagnosing the problem, and it seems the company is alright all around. I will definitely call Friendly Plumber if I need any plumbing help. Hopefully not, but you'll never know since I do live in a 60's built home.
Friendly Plumber is great. Very professional. The plumber showed up maybe 10 minutes early for the appointment and gave me a detailed written estimate on the spot.
I wanted to have the job done immediately since my water heater was kaput, so the plumber called their office to order the heater and for more parts for additional repairs for my bathroom sink faucet.
A little over 30 minutes later, another truck pulled in front of my house with my new water heater. The guy at my house installed it and repaired my faucet, at exactly the same price I was quoted.
I was also instructed on what I should consider in the future to bring the rest of the plumbing in my home up to date to avoid emergencies, and I am confident at his level of expertise as my faucet works really, really well now.
Prompt, honest, and fast. Friendly was flexible enough to come at a later time when my partner and I were running late getting home for the appointment.
The plumber did a fine job replacing our old kitchen sink. It was a tough and dirty job, and I really commend his professionalism for toughing-out the long day without any grumbling.
The price I paid was fair in my estimation, and it was nice that it came at $80 less than what I was originally quoted. I would definitely recommend the company to a friend.
Wow. I called and asked how much it would be to snake out a toilet. Robert gave me a price but said "If it's not the toilet that's broken you can get an auger at the hardware store and do it yourself."
I can't believe he gave me a reason not to fork cash over. When I thanked him saying as much he laughed and said "I don't like wasting people's time." Fantastic. Hopefully I can take care of it but I'll be sure to give him a call if I ever need something.
I've been a Friendly Plumber customer for over seven years and I have always enjoyed very good service from this company.
I'm in the middle of selling my second home in San Francisco, and it was part of the contingency agreement that I have things repaired before the sale could go through. Minor fixes of a leaky shower head, kitchen faucet replacement, and a wobbly toilet. Even though these things had to get done in a day and their schedule was already booked, Robert skipped lunch that day and ended-up working really, really late just to finish the project.
This is the kind of professionalism that isn't always around anymore. I even tried to get other plumbers to come out and do the same job after hearing about Friendly Plumber's schedule, but no one would even bother to see the job when I told them that I needed it done the same day.
I'm sticking with Robert and his crew. Their fantastic customer service is worth every penny!
The gentleman from Friendly Plumber did a great job for me. He was very professional, diagnosed my sewer problem quickly and then fixed it quickly as well.
Yes, the "Friendly" experience was not an inexpensive one. However, I think he realized as much and did not try to weasel me out of my money either. The project was well detailed in writing so I knew exactly what I was being charged, and the exact terms of the transaction. I liked the guarantee on all the work done and that I had no obligation to proceed with the job in the first place just because he looked at our sewer main.
Throughout the project, the plumber and the office support I received have been highly professional, which was impressive for such small, local operation.
My newest flip is now officially above and beyond behind schedule because of my General Contractor, whose reputation with me is hanging by a very thin thread.
This is what happens when people you expect to be professional, do not perform to expectation, and each and every aspect of the project falls behind, like dominoes.
I really must give credit where it's due though, because Friendly Plumber so far is the one and only contractor on this project who has held his part of the bargain.
He has been patient with all the mayhem that's been going on, and was able to put at least the kitchen and the master bath in proper order, for the electricians to go in with enough time, before all inspections.
Friendly Plumber also passed their inspection with flying colors, so I will definitely use them on my next project, if this one ever ends.

I appreciate that though Robert wasn't able to fix the roof where he installed a new vent pipe, he was very cooperative and prompt in hiring a roofer to do the job right.
My boyfriend found Friendly Plumber for me and I'm glad for that!
The plumber was professional, came on time, and very knowledgeable about our Franke faucet, which another plumber had already given up on and told me to pretty much just throw away.
The plumber also cleaned up after himself which was a big plus.
I agree with the reviews that Robert is knowledgeable and knows that people want to save as much $ as possible on home repairs.
We had a leaky shower and got 3 estimates that all said cut the wall and replace the valve. Robert was the only one who suggested we buy the valve online (found a really good brand that was discontinued) and we could cut open the wall ourselves. He also knew we were on a time crunch and came in Saturday to do it AND had a great drywall guy come in to repair the wall. All in one day. Yay!
We had a leak behind the wall and Friendly Plumber was the third one to arrive to assess the situation. The other two plumbers wanted to rip into the wall and barely wanted to do any investigation.
The first plumber who visited me wanted to charge me an arm and a leg even though they were late for the appointment by 2 hours! The second one was cheap, yes, but I could hardly understand what the plumber was saying, plus the incredibly high price he wrote on the estimate, five figures! I wasn't about to sign to that, and I was completely turned off by that too.
Friendly Plumber was the third plumbing company who showed up. The guy was clean shaven, in uniform (which the others weren't) and just looked professional. Most importantly, it really showed that he took the
time to think through where the problem could be and isolated the area where the leak was coming from. Within two hours the leak was identified. He went out to pick-up the part he said was needed to fix it and the job was done the same day.
I am satisfied with the price I was charged even though I still think it was a little bit on the high side. I'm just not too sure since I haven't been a homeowner for too long. I'm used to my landlord taking care of everything for me, but hey, at least this guy got the job done when other plumbers I thought were plain unreasonable.
I had occasion to call this company again and this time for my own house. The plumber who came, Robert, was as efficient, friendly and professional as I last remembered when he worked at my office. Good job!

I live with my entire extended family, including my mom and my grandmother.
Last week, our hot water heater started turning on and off by itself and finally last Wednesday, it completely stopped working and spilled water all over our basement.
Only my grandma was at home and everyone else were at work at the time, but luckily my neighbor was home and saw water gushing out of our garage. Well, he called me at work and since I didn't know that this is even a plumbing problem, he told me that I should call Friendly Plumber.
While still at work, I was able to give my neighbor the code to our alarm and the two of them found out that the water heater has succumbed to its death, and we need a new one. Plus also a cleaning crew to take care of the flood.
Friendly Plumber referred an emergency restoration service to me which I think is a good deal at $200 and he installed a brand spanking new water heater, all in the same afternoon.
I appreciate this plumber's professional attitude while working at my house as my I know my grandmother can sometimes get a little chatty, and she even complimented the fact that the plumber seemed to be a really "good boy".
I stopped by Friendly Plumber's office to pay the bill yesterday, and I met the plumber who worked at our house. His name is Robert, and he was not a boy!
Nevertheless, it was pretty nice of him to go the extra step to make my grandma feel at ease.
This is one review I am really glad to have written, and I'm definitely keeping their business card on our fridge just in case. Besides, Grams already know Robert, so maybe this time, she'll answer the door if there's ever another catastrophe for the day again.
We've got everyone beat since we've been working with Friendly Plumber for 10 years now. And I think I've pretty much referred all my friends to them too.
My partner and I own rental property in the Sunset and we have given our tenants his direct line already since we know that Friendly Plumber really cares about what they do. The quality of work is there, very professional, and trustworthy in doing just what needs to be done and no sneaky extras, because they know exactly at what position we're in.
We're sticking with this company for at least another 10 years, no doubt.
Great company! Friendly Plumber went above and beyond for me when I was renting in 2005. On a Friday night, PG&E shut-off my gas (their error BTW). The plumber I spoke to was on his way home, and seeing as I was about to freeze the entire weekend long, he advised me exactly how to handle the problem and offered several solutions for me.
More recently, I called them again for my own house this time and had the occasion to use their service again on a less dramatic problem. Just a busted toilet. As always, the plumber who showed up was professional and did not pressure me to upgrade to a better model just because he could sell me on it.
A+ all the way!
I first heard about this company from another search engine. Then, I promptly forgot about them until a couple of months ago, when I needed a plumber.
I called at 4:58pm, on a Friday, STRESSING about getting a machine. to my surprise, I got a human being! Not an outside hired operator type, but an actual, professional employee, who promptly told me how to shut-off my water heater temporarily, until they can fix it the next day.
Let me see, I didn't have to blow my Friday dealing with a plumbing problem and the guy I spoke with, Robert, even came the next day and I wasn't charged a special "Saturday" rate or anything!
Kudos to Friendly Plumber.
Yay for Friendly Plumber!!! I reccommend then 500 billion + times over.
Robert is a super guys and gets the job done!!!
Choose them.

First to Review
Responsible, on time, fair pricing, and extremely friendly. I back them 100%
I've had a fair amount of experience with plumbers in my time, but since I'm relatively new to San Francisco, so I still checked around for companies with good reputations before having someone in our home.
The Friendly Plumber who came out to give me an estimate was very friendly and professional. Another thing that I noticed when researching on the internet is they have a very good reputation. That definitely helped bolster my confidence, especially since my remodel is not a slip-shot, easy affair.
I'm converting a single family Victorian to 2 units, so I really need a company who can pull off my project without any snags.
So far, I am quite pleased.
New month, new problem, with my basement ceiling leaking from the bathroom above. I had my basement in law flooded from the water heater that was faultily connected by the previous plumber, to roots from the tree in front of my house, which is apparently owned by the city - suffice it to say my run of plumbing bad luck had hit a trifecta, and it's just February yet.
I got bids and talked to two other plumbers before I turned to the internet to doublecheck on the reputation of these companies I was considering. In the process, I discovered Friendly Plumber and their good reviews, so with a reputation as good as theirs, they must be doing something right. It seemed unreal how they can please so many people. I had to try them for myself since I know that with my share of the insurance deductible, I had better be getting a job with solid results. My insurance company just won't stand for repeat visits anyhow.
Friendly Plumber's guy showed up to my house with shoe booties, which I thought was a professional touch. He was courteous, and immediately got to diagnosing the fact that my son and I have a tendency to splash around the tub and water was escaping, causing the leak.
Thank God it was nothing major! He also noticed that our water heater still isn't strapped correctly, and this time, I'm no longer taking chances so I had him deal with that too. I am pleased with his expertise and am glad I did my research this time around.
I am okay with the price I paid, albeit a little higher than the two other plumbers. Friendly Plumber at least was able to solve the problem. I recommend them in a heartbeat.
I am an Office Manager for a small jewelry shop in San Francisco. When the toilet in our office started acting up, I made some calls.
Friendly was the first to call me back Monday morning, and thus won our project with their professionalism. They were flexible in sending a guy to our office at lunchtime, which helped manage the transition smoothly. Plus, the toilet was replaced quickly, so we didn't skip a beat.
We will absolutely use Friendly's services again and will recommend them to others.
Friendly Plumber first worked for me in 2001, when they replaced our water heater. They have served us well, coming to fix problems almost immediately ever since.
Last year, I bought a house in the Sunset to rent-out and I have once again hired Friendly Plumber to replace the pipes for this house.
I am comfortable in the knowledge that I'm getting the best plumber I can afford in the city, and that my project will be handled in a prompt, expedient and professional manner.
Thanks especially to Rob.
Rob is great - very professional, easy to work with, and always gives a reasonable price. He gave me an estimate last Friday for the continuation of my 2002 Victorian remodel, and we're starting work on the bonus suite at my basement tomorrow.
Even though a lot of time has passed under the bridge, he still remembered the small details about the project that even I have completely forgotten. He said one of the reasons he still works out in the field as opposed to "manning a desk" like most of his competitors is this very reason. Employees come and go, but as long as he owns the company, he wants to personally make sure that all customers are happy with the final product, and should he ever see me in the supermarket one day, he can look me in the eye and be able to talk to me without any hesitation. I really believe that.. He's a great guy.
Hot water heaters aren't cheap in San Francisco, and neither is installing one. So, rather than a smoking deal, what you should expect for your money is reliability, prompt service, good advice, safety considerations, professional work and a guarantee. That description is Robert. It's hard to think of a more professional plumber. He spent an hour discussing different kinds of hot water heaters and which ones would best suit our family in terms of capacity, recovery, safety and efficiency. And he work was top notch, from soldering all the old pipes, moving the gas valves, putting in a new flue, and earthquake proofing it with triple straps and a custom bracket. Plus, that dude is really friendly!
There's another plumber on Yelp with more reviews than Friendly, but I had a bad experience with that outfit. They tried to pull a fast one on me, and then I went with Friendly.
