13 reviews for Fridas Mexican Restaurant
I checked out Frida's for the first time last weekend because my Entertainment Book was about to expire. I am so glad I did. This is not your typical Mexican Restaurant. Most of the entrees are much more gourmet and complex than what you would expect from a strip-mall Mexican place. I ordered the Pollo Dolores Olmedo which consisted of a chicken breast stuffed with pineapple and cheese and smothered in a roasted coconut sauce. Yum!
They also have the more expected dishes like enchiladas, tacos and fajitas if you're not feeling very adventurous.
The pricing was a little higher than I expected (my entree was $15.95 and the burritos were $11 or so).
Our service was great (although we went on Sunday at 7:30) and the waiter was very friendly.
If you are looking for a place to go that is like Taco Bell or Azteca, keep looking. This place is truly unique and worth a visit.
Honnah must have gone on a off night! This is BY FAR the best mexican good I have had in a long time. My sister turned me on to the place, she visited it often when she was pregnant with her twin girls. And I fell in love. It truly is a hidden gem, hard to spot but AMAZING. The waiters are always attentive and friendly. The food is outstanding. A little more then I expect to pay but delicious and worth it. The presentation of the food is absolutely beautiful, and the drinks are perfection. I would suggest this restaurant to anyone! Don't walk, RUN to Fridas!
Frida's food is not Tex-Mex, so don't go expecting it. The menu is extensive (as is their array of tequilas) and filled with exotic, Mexican-based main dishes. We haven't had anything we didn't like. If you insist on Tex-Mex, the back of the menu has a few enchiladas, etc. But, try some of the other entrees. They are different but good. Portions are generous and the staff has always been pleasant when we've been there.
Yummy Mexican food that is more authentic than the usual garbage you're served at places like Azteca. Everything seems homemade and creative. The menu is funny--not only does it list the food and what's in it, but it tells a story about each item, relating each story back to Frida Kahlo. Try the enchilada suizas--amazingly good! And get a sangria while you're at it. It's like summer in a glass.
Yes, Frida's is in a strip mall, and yes, the layout of the restaurant is weird, but the food and drinks are what make the place. Just be sure to eat and go--this isn't the best place to hang out in. After about 9:30 or so, the waiters and bartenders give up on working and instead start their own party at the wall o'tequila.
If you like Mexican and want a change of pace, check out Frida's!
this is a hidden gem located in a shopping center near bothell/mill creek. i went in here on a sunday night with my husband. there were a few tables seated with followed by a small friendly wait staff. we were seated in the bar area and were absolutley floored by the bar. it had one of the largest selections of tequilas i have ever seen. i spent a good majority of my dinner looking at all the different selections. i am used to ordering burritos and fajitas when i go to a mexican resturant so i was plesently surprised by the more mature flavors of mexican cusine offered. My husband ordered the bistec murillo which had quiet a kick to it. super spicy yet not overpowering...the beef was tender and had a very strong flavor it was served with brown chiles and onions . along with our generous portions were accompanied by a side of rice, salad and beans cooked to perfection. I ordered the pollo picasso which might have been the best mexican dish i have ever eatten, the chicken was cooked in a fabulous smokey chipotle sauce mixed with onions, peppers and zuccini. we did not try any appetizer or dessert. everything that was offered on the menu seemed appealing. i would definetly come back here again. it was fun to try some flavors i have never experienced that complimented eachother so well! Give this place a try!
The food is rather unique but the service is rather lackluster. I believe it's the owner who greeted us with an appraising before leading us to our table nose in the air.
The place is really not that exclusive. I mean it's in a strip mall get over yourself!
Good mexican. My wife likes it, I'm okay with it. They sure like things spicy.
Not impressed with this place at all and will never go back. The "Mexican food" definitely is not what you usually see, and I have a hard time believing it would be considered authentic in Mexico. The cheese on my food smelled/tasted like feet, the beans and rice had no flavor. There was one guy working the bar and being our server and I perceived him to be rude/stuck up. There were four or five people in our party and no one planned on ever coming back to this place.
I went on a dinner date with my 1 year old son for the first time here. He was a wonderful date; charming, polite, and ate with gusto!
I wasn't sure if they'd be kid friendly but they didn't bat an eye. The greeter was friendly and busy. He quickly got us a table. The setting was perfect for a romantic dinner, and yet it was very casual. That is, people were in jeans and t-shirt instead of dress slacks and collared shirt. I wasn't sure what the little man would eat but I wasn't disappointed to see the bowl of chips and tiny dishes with sauces. Little man could only have the creamy spread, the others were too hot.
I only ordered one dish; stuffed chicken. There were the standard choices, enchilada, tacos etc. etc. if I didn't want to be adventuresome. Most of the dishes sounded very fancy. The stories worked into the menu is creative. When the chicken came little man and I dove in. And it was delicious! He ate it without complaints, and would go back to charming other customers. I was really impressed with the dish. It was pleasantly arranged and not too much. I ended up taking some home. The service was friendly and quick.
Yes, the location isn't the most romantic but it's a pleasant surprise to have something different and tasty close by. Little man had a full belly when he went to bed that night. And I had some left overs to look forward to the next day.
Expect food that's very different from what you think Mexican food is. It's cuisine oriented rather than taco oriented, and the flavors are disctinctly Central American rather than Southwestern. Combinations of sweet and spicy with lots of fresh fruits thrown in make their dishes delight the taste buds. Top it off with a huge Tequila bar with many varieties of cactus juice I've never heard of, and you've got a recipie for a winner in my book.
The only negative is the setting. It's in a strip mall next to Albertson's. The proprieters do their best to create ambience, but it falls a bit flat from being romantic. I can't imagine eating in their "sidewalk cafe" as the hordes of soccer mom's drive from the neighboring McDonalds to pick up their groceries.
I really, really wanted to love Frida's... but just can't give it more than 3 stars. The food was good but not spectacular. It's clear that the owners put a lot of care into the place, but the ambiance is off. The restaurant has a boutique decor, but the tables look cheap/standard. Nicer window treatments would help so that you don't see the Shell station and Albertson's parking lot each time you look out the window. On a Friday evening, the place was less than half full. The live music was great, though!
Once again we stumbled on a place that just doesn't fit in the neighborhood it is in. This mexican restaurant seems to be family run with the little kids running around. The food was very good and the service very attentive without being bothersome. This appears to be some type of shrine to Frida Kahlo, with portraits and artwork. The cool thing is they have a tequila menu that lists shots of tequila over $100. I was with some friends and we started at $7.00 shots to see what sippin' tequila tastes like and then you get crazy and start to run up your tab. The dining room is cramped because it's in a strip mall but it wasn't crowded and worth the stop.
My dining experience here is limited to lunches. Their lunch menu contains Tex-Mex items like enchiladas and chimichangas, but the presentation of the food is like nothing you'll see at Chevy's or such. The rice is white, not seasoned, and the refried beans are more like a sauce (held in a tiny, corn tortilla bowl) for dipping a forkful of food. There is always shredded cabbage on the plate as well as a piece of fresh fruit. I don't know for certain, but I like to think that it looks like a home-cooked meal you'd be served in Mexico. Everything is fresh and incredibly flavorful. I should also mention the salsas that accompany the tortilla chips. Instead of the typical red, we are usually given a green salsa and a chunky salsa of apples, cucumbers and cayenne pepper. I have only read their dinner menu, and it is much more refined. (Perhaps even gourmet?) Lunch service is extremely slow, so we know not to come here when we're in a hurry.
