Yeah, it's small compared to most big city museums, but it's still pretty neat. The interior is bright, and the exhibit we went to see (Feathered Dinosaurs) was well laid out and informative for both the adults and kids in our group.
The hands on science stuff for the tykes is pretty good. Three times my kids have spent a couple of hours exploring the laws of sound and light, learning about how smog is formed, and thinking about how art of science intersect.
The best for our family is the winter break and summer vacation science camps. My kids have been to three in the past two years and learned a lot and had tons of fun each time.
Visited here on a friend's suggestion, and even though Fresno seems like a small town that expanded to a large city, the museum was a nice surprise. It featured some ancient Chinese sculptures, entries entered from local school children, a beautiful exhibit on Dutch-Italianate artists, an exhibit on Impressionist artist Anna Richards Brewster, and a whole section of science for kids. If I had any I'd bring my children here for the kids' exhibits, and the more historic exhibits should appeal to art appreciators for most backgrounds.
The museum has reopened, and although revamped, it's still a good deal for Fresno. I absolutely love the gift store in the lobby. They have small science type toys for kids that you can't find anywhere else in Fresno.

it's back apparently! this was only my second trip to fresyes and my first to this area of town. i'd never seen the building before but from what i can remember (after getting to the met for the opening, all night dance party directly following a night of too many tequila shots and vodka drinks ((kill me))) was that it looked darn pretty. the inside was about 5 levels (i seriously went from top to bottom to top again a few times and still can't recall how many stories it was...again....drinking) and lookin sharp. the dino exhibits were pretty great looking.
the dance party now...if we're talking dance party i'll say this...one star. this thing was sposed to be open ALL NIGHT. we got there at about 3am and the lights were comin on and the e-tards were being kicked out on their asses which they seemed to be kind of upset about...i could tell cuz they were grinding their teeth like "this suc...." oh. that's right. that's just something they do.
anywho...everyone was out by 4am. luckily, in a crazy twist of fate (since we were being told not to even try going cuz of the three hour line) we'd accidentally run across people leaving out of a side door which we propped open for about 15 people and ran inside.
overall...i'll go back for the museum experience cuz it looks awesome...however it used to look before.

I am very disappointed with the "new" Fresno Met. For all the money they spent, the place is still very small. We spent about an hour there and had seen everything there was to see. It's really not worth the trip.
learn a little history of fresno and other stuff, great for the kids!!!
