3 reviews for French Lick Resort & Casino
Stayed here for a week, and enjoyed the golf as well as the dining. Loved the 10-12 foot ceilings in the rooms. Walking through the lobby was like taking a step back in time. They spent a lot of money upgrading this resort, and it shows.
Only negative was the lack of mid-range dining establishments. They were either high-end, or mediocre, with nothing in the middle.

Horrible casino! Worst customer service ever, I waited 15 minutes at the bar only for the bartender to look at me and help the guy next to me that had only waited a few minutes. The only reason people are in this casino is because of the lack of casinos in southern Indiana. I would not return even if they gave me a $500 comp and a free room for the weekend!!!
Fantastic Experience. This is a 150+ year old resort that is the ultimate in cool. Based out in the middle of nowhere you will totally forget that you are in Indiana. While many famous people have stayed here, the resort seems to hide the fact that Al Capone and John Dillinger used to hang out here. While a guest you will feel like you are transported back in time 100 years.
The service was impeccable, 'nuf said. This place is the perfect getaway if you have the $$$. The hotel finished it's restoration in 2006 and it shows. Everything is perfect and well laid out. No matter where you are in this hotel there is a place to sit and relax.
The rooms are huge and so are the bathrooms. Everything was well thought out. We even tried the room service so we could give our opinion on that. It was pretty good but I have one complaint, the smoked salmon was obviously chilled for too long in a fridge that was too cold. When you are paying big $$$, you expect perfection, this isn't the Days Inn.
The outdoor swimming pools (cement pond to you hillbillies) were very nice, except for the kids. The hot tub was great, except for the kids. The indoor swimming pool was beautiful except that the heater had been broken for 4 days and it wasn't fixed yet (grrr), oh, and the kids.
I've reviewed a few of the restaurants separately since they stand on their own. Two that I will comment on here are the Powerplant and the Grand Colonade.
The Powerplant is a pub on the lower level of the hotel and is a great place to hang out. The food is ok (the chicken on the Cobb salad was old and dried out but the onion rings were great). Prices are reasonable for alcohol and the beer is a great deal.
The Grand Colonnade should be renamed the Grand Colon Aid. I have seen the Golden Corral look better than this buffet. A good 1/2 of the buffet is not used for food but plates and other items that are NOT edible. I was very unimpressed and refused to spend $15 for "old people" prechewed food. Yes, I am a food snob.
One huge thing to note was that the power in the hotel went out for 9 hours one day and all of the restaurants except for the Colon Aid shut down. I talked to a manager, Todd in the lobby and he was very cordial. There was nothing to do but gamble when the power went out. While the casino was on full generator power, the hotel was on limited power.
All in all, this place is really worth a visit and we will be back often as our wallet can afford it. We had a few bumps, but they are easily fixable.
