I agree---OMG!!! I searched high and low for a cleaner to clean my wedding dress that was going to do a good job w/o killing my budget. I bought my dress at a sample shop on sale, and wanted to get it cleaned before the wedding. I took it ALL over the place and got estimates of over $400! I could see how that might be the case if it was dirty, but it really wasn't; I just wanted it to be clean and pressed before I wore it for my wedding.
Chun at French Cleaners is the NICEST lady, and will give you great service for a VERY reasonable price. My cleaning (again, it wasn't dirty at all, just a little bit from people trying the dress on, and a little wrinkled) was VERY affordable. Also, she only needed 1 week to clean it!
I'll definitely take it back here to get cleaned after the wedding and to get heirloomed.
We found it! A dry cleaner in Berkeley/near Temescal that provides excellent service (no longer do my sweaters come back smelling like feet), is in the medium price range (certainly not the cheapest, but cheaper than the one dry cleaners we used to go to on Ashby and Claremont), and has wonderful, very personable service. I think the icing on the cake was when the fun asian woman who worked there carried my dry cleaning stack to my car and spent the time figuring out my stupid passenger handles to hang the dry cleaning off of.
This review relates to alterations only. I had several problems with French Cleaners:
1. Way too expensive. They charge $10-15 for a very simple 1-minute alteration job that requires just a couple of stitches. In my experience, many other alteration places would do minor jobs for free, especially when you buy a lot from them. French Cleaners do not do that.
2. The work quality is often poor. Sometimes they would do a decent job, other times they deliver unacceptable results.
OMG! I have looking everywhere to find a cleaner close by that can clean my wedding dress without breaking an arm and a leg. After having a bad experience with Norge Cleaners, going to French Cleaners was a breathe of fresh air. I was soooo happy that I found French Cleaners on Yelp.
5 Stars for the following:
1. Lots of Street Parking
2. Very nice & honest & professional lady that works there
3. Superb job on cleaning my wedding dress and making it look brand new again
4. AFFORDABLE PRICE
I brought my wedding dress here for cleaning / preservation since it was recommended by my alterationist (word?) - Anne Ventresco - someone I wholeheartedly trust. For those doing a little research re: wedding expenses post wedding, this place quoted me $100 for cleaning a silk organza dress with a cathedral train that was lightly soiled. It is another $150 for profession preservation. For those brides looking to clean a used dress, the cleaning requires 3 weeks.
Premum price for premium service.
They have resurrected suits I thought were ruined. And they are very nice to me eventhough I always lose my ticket and leave my clothes there longer than I should.
Great little place, good work, cheap alterations, fairly fast and a super smiling, super friendly, midly flirty old lady to welcome me each time, sweet. Can cleaner's get any better than this? Plus it's on my "crapped up 24, shortcut home" route...
good deal, good alterations, good cleaning and they know us when we go in and are already getting the slip ready before I start to talk! The only drawback is the CASH ONLY alterations requirement.
I have gone to these guys for years, and am always greated with a exuberent Scotty!! I won't go anywhere else! They also do tayloring!
If you own good clothes and want to take great care of them, this is the place to go. I trust them with everything. They take gentle care of it. I used to live close to hear, and now I've moved, but I travel the extra distance to give my good clothes the extra TLC.
French Cleaners is great. I got a great deal on my wedding dress because it was a sample, and thus had make-up smudged all over it. Just as the woman assured me they would, French Cleaners got all of it off. My dressed was cleaned, pressed, and bagged beautifully (so that it would not get wrinkled or creased). Their pricing was also very reasonable and the woman that helped me was very pleasant and professional. I would definately use them again.
