12 reviews for Fremont Professional Massage and Bodyworks
I live just minutes away from this Irvington District establishment, and I could, if I were more limber, kick myself for not coming sooner!
Having been experiencing lower back pain for months (since a 9-week stint with a boot brace/bone fracture), I decided to yelp this place and happily discovered all the positive reviews. Even more so, I went to their website and discovered the $60 deal for 60 minute massages offered on Mondays and Wednesdays!! I made a next-day appointment for something I'd never heard of, but sounded perfect, a "heavy handed Swedish" massage. It's a full-body, medium pressure massage that's a blend of Swedish and deep tissue techniques for a "medium touch" massage. It was the most intense massage I'd ever had (only having done Swedish til now).
Cristina, my therapist, was always asking about the pressure. It was harder than I was used to, but I figured it needed to hurt where I hurt. Right? She assured me that I'd be in some discomfort for the next two to three days, and boy, was she right! Cristina also recommended that I ice my back. I've been doing so for two weeks now.
Happiest discovery of all: a massage table with strategically placed indents for womanly anatomy. I LOVE this!!
I immediately made a follow-up appointment with Cristina, whom some may find chatty, but I found comfortable. And, it was a good distraction for my physical (lower back) discomforts.
Great news! The Monday/Wednesday discount has been extended to the end of August. I may just make a series of appointments and live the life of Riley!
Place was clean but not fancy. Perfect for this Quaker Girl!!
Yep, I concur with most here: Fremont Professional Massage is a superb tiny gem.
I've been to Burke-Williams spa in Santana Row twice now, and probably will go no more; simply because their massage is not as good as Fremont Professional!!! (and BW is tons more expensive)
Heidi is wonderful. I've decided to make a regular appointment with her from now on. Plus they're right next to my gym (24 Hour Fitness), so I can do the jaccuzzi or steam room there!
No, it's not a spa, and they don't have all the facilities of a spa, but it's a very clean place, the rooms are cozy and relaxing, and the prices are very reasonable,. And their massage services are wonderful!
Highly recommended.
Five stars for Heidi and I don't care about the facility, the business or anything else, but everything else is just fine also.
When you find a great CMT it does not matter where she/he works, it's the quality of the massage that matters and Heidi is tops in the Bay Area and that's from someone who has visited perhaps 8 or 9 other CMTs.
As another reviewer mentioned for a small woman she's remarkably strong, her expertise is deep tissue and I'm in need of her services due to a bad back and other various serious problems.
My highest rating!
Disclosure: I am a massage addict.
I first noticed Fremont Massage and Bodyworks when i went to the gym in the same complex. The location isn't esp. visible from the street, but when i noticed the place, i've always thought that i would check them out, (that was about 6 mos ago), and i always ended up at other more "upscale" spas with friends instead.
Recently, they participated in a health fair at my work where they provided free chair massages. I liked the therapist they sent and finally made an appt.
I'm glad the massage was a lot smoother than scheduling my appt. I called kind of late for a next day appt (ok, my fault) the receptionist said that they were booked. Ok, that's fine, i said i would try back another day. Then she asked if I am a returning client, to which i answered no, this is my first time. Then she offered an afternoon appt. which i couldn't make, then a morning appt. which i also couldn't make, so finally i gave her a time that worked for me and she said yes. (Wait, but i thought you were booked or was that a lie??) weird.
Then she asked me to hold and i could her hear her ask another employee about the time she just said yes to whether that was free. (are you high or do you not know how to read an appt. book??)
Ok, i'll keep the appt. b/c maybe she is new... i didn't want to be too harsh...
As i was getting ready i could hear the receptionist talk with my therapist and they were kind of loud and giggling - not too relaxing, but i can understand.
My masseuse was professional; she checked in with me when appropriate; she was very strong, but maybe that's because i asked for medium pressure. Every massage I have had is different, even at the same location with different masseuses - she did some interesting stretching thing and pressure things that i wasn't so sure about, but it was still relaxing. I like that she included a head massage since not all places do.
After the massage they give you a bottle of water, not some dinky little paper cup of water -- so i definitely appreciate the bottle water.
The facility itself isn't fancy, but the massage rooms are real rooms, not cubicles, not curtained off areas, no, real full sized rooms which i like.
Overall, i would say it was a positive experience - with the exception of the receptionist. sheesh. But i would go back. :)
The place is very nicely decorated and clean. I came here with a friend probably a year ago and we both had Swedish massages by different masseuses and we both thought they were good. Not amazing but a solid massage. It was also during a heat wave and the air conditioning wasn't working so I have to give them credit because I'm sure that they were hot. My masseuse was young and fairly new and talked a little more than I would have liked but the quality of the massage was good. I liked this place though the atmosphere was nice and relaxing so I will probably go back and give it another try.
I still can't say enough good things about Tina, the owner of this business. She actually called me **while she was on vacation** yesterday to apologize for a bad experience I'd had with one of the therapists there. Talk about going above and beyond! I hadn't even asked for her to contact me.
Unfortunately, I still found the behavior of the therapist in question inexplicable. (Tina didn't seem to have an explanation for it, either, which is entirely understandable, since there isn't one.) I won't mention her by name, since to be fair, all of my previous experience with this therapist had been great. Maybe her husband had filed for divorce that morning, or she'd just heard her mom had cancer--or she'd seen her dog get run over. That's about what it would take for me to make sense of the things she said to me yesterday and the tone in which she said them. (I've removed her name from my earlier review, so no, it's not Olivia.) Among other things, she threatened to remove me from their books (!) after I have been going there for several years--at least six., I think. Despite everything she said I was polite to her. (I even said "Good-bye ______; have a good weekend" in a sincerely friendly tone at the end of our talk.) I am seriously still in shock about it, to the point where I wonder if she might even have confused me with another client. While Tina's apology was certainly appreciated, it is her employee who should have apologized.
I would possibly go back to FPM at this point, but that would be due entirely to Tina's professionalism and sincere attempts to rectify the situation. I would be dishonest if I took back the previous good things I've said about this business. However, I would not feel comfortable going to that therapist again, which is sad after seeing her on-and-off for several years, recommending her to several people, and even referring my dad and husband to her for sessions. :-( Not the way to reciprocate client loyalty, that's for sure.

Long story short: I've gone here sporadically for years and, overall, had good experiences. However,… Read more »
Outstanding place for deep tissue work and much more affordable than going to an overpriced spa. Save the Claremont and Monterey for special occasions for all the spa frills. But come to Fremont Massage/Bodyworks to address chronic muscle tension, knots that won't go away, and all the other woes your poor body has been carrying around. If you love really deep work in your muscles, this is the place to go. I would highly recommend coming here also if you are in training, working out alot, or an endurance athlete and want to improve your flexibility and performance. This is truly a gem and the staff are very friendly and professional. My masseuse has the power of 500lb bull inside of her small 125lb frame...lol....so don't think if you are a guy, you won't get a great deep tissue--she will prove you wrong very quickly. lol...Christina is the best, and has a wonderful spirit. You will be blessed to have her work on you!
Great massages and excellent management make for a good experience every time! Definitely a place to pamper yourself.
The therapist communicated with me perfectly so that I could relax and not have the massage be too light or too hard, which I appreciated. I don't get an opportunity to get massages that often because I'm a busy mom so when someone gets it right the first time it really leaves an impression on me.
I recently discovered Fremont Professional Massage & Bodyworks after a friend raved about how much his massage there helped his aching back. The appointment booking went smoothly, the service was very professional and attentive, and the massage was amazing - especially if you enjoy a massage with a bit more strength in it. Clean, simple, and nice facilities, with your own individual room. This place definitely made my monthly "to do" list!
I would certainly go back to this place for a massage. The staff was friendly and attentive. The rates were not bad at all. It was clean as well.
I have a lot of experience with body work and I was incredibly impressed. I saw Irma and she was fabulous. Very few women actually manage a deep tissue massage but she was intense. I can feel a distinct improvement in my back.
Every 3-4 months, I try to get a massage to work out the knots and general soreness that builds up, and have tried different massage places in Fremont and on the peninsula. Heidi at FPM has been a great find. For someone who is sort of small, she gives the strong massage that I prefer. The place is clean and professional, and I've never had a problem with the front desk or with bookings, as others have commented.
