Love! Great neighborhood, great atmosphere, great coffee. I had a simple and beautiful latte. I loved that it was in an old house, and since we went on a beautiful sunny day we enjoyed sitting outside on the porch. I bought a bag of coffee and enjoyed it just as much in my home. Wish we had some more places like this is Dallas!

Aside from the strange, somewhat off-putting anti-Yelp article posted on the espresso machine, I liked this place. It was a nice atmosphere, and felt very warm on a very cold day. I would have liked the fireplace to be on, but I don't know why it wasn't. Not a deal breaker.
Coffee was tasty. I'd come back and hang out here again! -

What a cute little coffee shop. It makes me want to come to Fremont more! Cozy.
I was meeting a friend and annoyingly so, I was lead by Google maps down a back ally to approach the back door entrance to Fremont Coffee. Who knew I could have just walked around the front. Dumb technology. Not their fault but I kind of liked that it was hard to find for me! Made my experience much more enjoyable.
Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by the grande size of this shop! Plenty of room to study, hang out, catch a quick date, or get lost in talking to neighbors in trying to avoid your date.
My coffee was great and so was my little biscotti! The service was great as well. Talkative baristas who are informative yet patient are just what I think a good coffee shop needs. They have that! Plus!
I'll be back, even though I have to drive 20 minutes to get there. Worth it. -
Review from Tom A.
Irony: this friendly coffee place with 90-some Yelp reviews and a 4-star average has an article clipped from the Stranger on their espresso machine that basically says, "Fuck off Yelpers!"
Because I love irony I'm going to raise them by giving them yet another 4-star review. Also because they deserve it. The coffee is excellent, as are the pastries. The service is nice and quick and the indoor and outdoor spaces are great for hanging out. Honestly Fremont Coffee is pretty much my definition of a great coffee house.
Maybe they give no Yelp love but that's not everything. Or is it? -

Let me just say that this place is adorable! My gf and I made a plans to study at different coffee shops once a week. She picked this place just to try it out and we found a new favorite place to study. Its nice and quiet which is great. There is three separate open rooms with desks. There is free street parking but if you continue to the next light and turn left (the shop should be on your left hand side) there is an alley right after you take the turn on your left hand side with back in parking and there are tons of open spots! And you can go through the back entrance.
I'm not to big on coffee so im not an expert on sharing my review for Fremonts coffee. HAHA but when I do drink coffee I keep it simple @ white mochas or caramel machiato's. The coffee was good nothing to special. Again I'm not a big coffee drinker. lol OH! And I forgot to say that they serve beer! I love to drink beer but obviously who wants to study buzzed? haha This place is unique really cool decor. So if your looking to study somewhere to get away from and don't want to go to a boring library and sit at home, I recommend this place. :) -
Review from Dorit K.
we came here on a rainy day. My hubby had hot cocoa and they created a very nice figure with the foam. it was a ghost! the cocoa was very good. i had the decaf americano which was OK, not the best but better than the average coffee.
the annoying thing is that you have to ask for a wifi password and it expires after an hour. anyways we didn't stay long cause we went to the chocolate tour nearby
atmosphere is nice. I could spend an hour or so. -

Since I've been in Seattle, I've had some great memories at Fremont Coffee whether it was listening to crazy-rock Christmas music, enjoying local art on the walls, playing checkers with old friends, drinking a beer while frantically working on a project and/or laughing hysterically at people on their outside deck! :-)
I love businesses inside old houses and so right away I'm a fan. Even with the occasional turnaround of baristas, I've always had a consistently delicious americano. Recently, after ordering a coconut americano, the barista suggested a white-chocolate, coconut americano for next time--I have yet to try it, but I love that the baristas are personable and friendly.
Fremont Coffee has free wifi for 3 hours, which is a definite plus. You can easily find a table for one inside, on their front porch, or alongside the house outside. -

Oh Fremont Coffee, you have been such a love-hate-love relationship. This is truly my favorite coffee house in Seattle, and I still sometimes struggle with why. 5 out of 6 baristas are snobby and too-cool-for-school. After you go there for about a year and a half they actually acknowledge you as (almost) a person. Somehow that converted house with its porch, wi-fi and the coffee that is to DIE for convinced me to come back until I actually fell for the quirky staff too. I even moved to Fremont because it does not get better than sitting on the porch of Fremont Coffee on a Sunday morning, sipping your perfectly roasted and poured espresso while watching the dogs with their owners meandering about Norm's across the street.

Worst Barista costumer service!
2 dudes behind the counter trying to play the tortured artist who's trying to pay the bills with this coffee making biz, cliche much mr. no smiles? can you guess what someone like this would draw on latte foam? that's right, a skull. if i ever come back here, i'm going to request a rainbow or unicorn to be drawn on my latte foam... just to see what kind of look they'd hand me.
My white chocolate latte was decent and my raspberry croissant was rather yummy.. but i was really not digging all that attitude. -

This place has a really rude article from The Stranger's I, Anonymous (http://www.thestranger...) column posted on their expresso machine that makes me really uncomfortable, so uncomfortable that it makes their coffee taste bad and their baristas angry and incompetant and their atmosphere boring and pretentious. Don't think I'll be going back.

Good coffee, assorted local pastries and quiches, wine!, beer!, and wi-fi with purchase.
My lattes arrive with special latte art in mugs for sitting. I love the wrap around porch with patio furniture and beyond count wicker chairs. I sit on the porch in the winter and summer. Inside holds seating as well and a few wood tables. I find this is a great spot for working from home and for reading.
FYI's~
* Sometimes they have free silly Fremont and Ballard themed postcards
* Baristas can be standoffish- normally ordering happens at the esspresso machine and is followed by payment at the cashier (who tend to be smiley girls)
* Standard esspresso menu- no fluffy drinks besides something with caramel
* Have rice and soy milkListed in: I just keep coming back…

Review from Rob O.
This coffee shop is so hip it hurts. And the weight of that pain must be almost unbearable. Well, at least that's what I'm gathering from my recent visit when the stylish barista was in so much hipster pain that he acted very put out by customers who disturbed his space by placing orders. Weighed down by the ton of hipness, he moved at a glacial pace, setting what I consider a record when it took him 8 minutes to make a latte. So customer service is pretty much nonexistent. Then again, you don't really head to Fremont for efficiency.
That said, the slowest barista in the world also made me one of the better lattes I've ever had. For no other reason, Fremont Coffee is worth visiting. And the ambiance is just amazing. The cafe is set in an old house with worn wooden floors and bright red walls. It's warm and welcoming and a great place to warm up if it's cold and rainy. If it's warm and the sun is actually out, Fremont Coffee has a great porch to sit on for people watching.
Bottom line: It's a five star cafe minus a star for obnoxious customer service. -
Review from Kat F.
Recently I decided that I don't give Fremont Coffee enough love. Or business.
I live in Fremont and frequent a number of local businesses and just spend a lot of time in general there. If I want quick service, I duck into Cafe Ladro. If I want to daydream and watch the boats go by, I venture down to Canal St. Coffee. If I'm waiting for a bus, I'll step into Starbucks. (Don't hate. I love Starbucks.) Really, my coffee need has been filled, at least as far as Fremont is concerned.
But Fremont coffee? Lovely. Just lovely. The coffee is good and fairly priced, the baristas are friendly, the space is cozy and the deck is great. They have yummy food options. Clearly they need to be a part of my regular routine...along with all the others. Perhaps they can fill the "it's raining and I want to read my book and drink coffee but Ladro isn't cozy enough for sitting and reading and Canal street coffee is too far away right now" shaped hole in my heart. (I didn't know I had one until now.)Listed in: Coffee Crisis

Oh, YES, the coffee is amazing and the tea as well. And the cafe is comfortable and quite conducive to thought and reflection. Ahhh. Fremont Coffee. This is where I go when I want to spend quality time with my coffee, not just have a quickie.
But just as there is no lover so excellent that over time one fails to see their flaws, even this coffee house has a few ... imperfections.
For example, at times it is so crowded that someone else is at my favorite table, forcing me to sit elsewhere, since it would be rude to drag them out of their seat and thrust them out the door onto the patio, tempting as that might be. At other times the barristas are less than perfectly attentive to my witty jokes and charming repartee. Why, there are even times when the coffee-foam art is merely good rather than breathtakingly refined.
Imperfect? To be sure. And yet, and yet... I keep coming back. What can I say? Must be the real thing. -

I have heard nothing but good things about this place, which makes me sad to report I had the worst soy latte of my entire coffee-drinking existence here tonight. I know the late-night baristas aren't top tier, but YIKES you don't have to make it taste like soaked black char from the bottom of the pan.
VERY VERY sad to report such horrible quality coffee on every aspect. It was burned, the soy was burned, it was just all wrong. I think one star is too much because STARBUCKS of all places can make an unburnt soy latte. And if you can't bring yourself to the level of McCoffee then....I'm not sure if there is hope.
Btw, it was undrinkable, had to pour it out. Wish I would have checked it before I walked out the door...I would have asked to have it made over (or be refunded!) -

As far as the setup goes, this place is awesome. I love the hollowed out rooms with chairs & couches. I dig the chairs on the front porch. And I'm a huge fan of the outdoor area, especially when the weather was as lovely as it was when we visited. I could have spent all kinds of time there just relaxing, so I can see how it'd be an appealing work or study space.
Sadly not a fan of the coffee, or at least the coffee I tasted. I ordered a Cafe Caramel, but it was extremely bitter. The taste was almost indicative of it being scortched & a friend's drink was very similar. We didn't order the same thing, but we may as well have had the exact same drink. Strange, indeed.
The staff was great - very nice & fast. The only downside here was that I had to repeat my order 3 times to the same barista for some reason. I have a pretty loud voice, so I'm not sure what the deal was, but she was super friendly, so no biggie. Maybe I just hit it on an off day, but I was pretty disappointed. I ended up tossing my drink out :( Might be worth another try, though. -

Best coffee shop in Fremont. Hands down.
This is a beautiful old house with beautiful old wood detailing, cozy rooms, and a wide front porch overlooking 36th street. The coffee is consistently delicious and fairly priced, and their homemade desserts kick that dry piece of Starbuck's pound cake to the curb!
The true star of this place is their gorgeous, spacious wrap around patio with a fountain and lush plants.
This is the perfect place to do work away from home or the office- relaxing and welcoming! -

I am not much of a coffee drinker so this review is based more on service and atmosphere. When I do switch it up from tea to coffee I always get a white mocha and the baristas often impress me with their foam coffee art skills. Yesterday I discovered a skull with heart eyes in my foam. Squeee! This place used to be an old house so you have your choice or a few different rooms to nuzzle into. On a nice day I recommend finding a spot on their side deck and bringing a book. Great place to read. Grab a biscotti and share it with the birds. There is also a front deck that is covered, great for people watching rain or shine.

I'm not a huge coffee nut but as a writer I spend a lot of time at Fremont coffee shops. Far and away my favorite place to go is Fremont Coffee. I love sitting on the porch in the comfy seat against the wall, splitting my time between writing, sipping coffee and people-watching on 36th.
The staff is extremely friendly and if you go often enough they remember you and what you like to drink.
Internet access is pretty good. Every so often I have an issue but not that big of a deal.
My favorite moments are when I'm the only one out there on the porch and either a bird jumps on the table to say hi or the mouse pops up from under the deck to look for crumbs and hang out. -

I spent the better part of my adulthood living on Capitol Hill. The ability to tuck and roll home from the Comet Tavern was a key factor in my choice of dwelling space.
Eventually I got it in my head that I might like to live somewhere that didn't include the echoes of lover's quarrels about who sucked who off in the bathroom at the Cuff that night or who shot who's dope. So I moved down to Eastlake. Killer pad right by the bridge with a view of Portage Bay and still close enough to the hill that I could avoid a DUI if I just took the backstreets home.
And then the unthinkable: 86'd from the Comet after seeing Bridget Jones, becoming incredibly depressed by it and purchasing a 150 proof bottle of Vodka which I drank all by my lonesome with a Kool-Aid mixer. Somewhere around midnight I decided I needed to get laid and made my way up to the Comet via backstreets (sans license as I had already secured a DUI - see http://www.yelp.com/bi... for more on that). I was apparently very rude to a bartender that I had already known carnally and upon my next visit was asked to leave and not return. Hmph.
Shortly thereafter, I found myself in church basements (AKA AA) where I met this guy who I immediately shacked up with. The place on Eastlake was too small for us and his kids who visited every other weekend so we got ourselves a place in Fremont. Don't ask me why - for some reason I felt that was a very "grown up" thing to do.
Within a few months it became painfully obvious that moving the "Center of the Universe" was a bad call. We missed Vivace (the new Comet), we had to drive all the fuck way to the hill to see anyone, and the neighborhood was populated with a dirth of Trustafarians and just straight FRAT blood. Lawd how I missed the drag queens and junkies.
One night around 1 am I actually walked across the street and into our neighbor's living room via the open front door to personally turn down the stereo that was so loud it felt like it was in my bedroom cranked to the limit. I proceeded to give the obviously high "kids" a speech about how decent people have to get up in the morning that sent chills down my spine. When did I get old???
Right. So Fremont Coffee. The place that made our time there bearable. They serve VIVACE!!!! PRAISE THE BABY JESUS. We were able to sit out on the wrap around porch of the old house and read the paper, smoke and enjoy some quiet. Not one of the baristas there openly flirted the guy - which had been an issue at Ladro across the street.
As soon as our lease was up we moved to the CD where we enjoyed the occasional sound of gun shots, and our ability to walk to Broadway. But during that dark time that we were surrounded by hippies and over-privileged white kids - Fremont Coffee saved us.Listed in: Way Back Machine, Yay for Me! ROTD!, I'm Funny Too!!!!!

I dig this place, but geez the espresso grinding makes a racket. Not just once in a while but constantly. This seems to be an issue at so many coffee shops, I can't help wondering if there isn't some way to put that machine in a cabinet or anywhere it would be acoustically isolated. I think it would go a long way to making a more pleasant environment

I really try not to come here every day. I can see it from my work out the window and it's just too tempting - Fremont Coffee is charming and delightful and exactly what I want when I need to step away from work for a minute.
Can I get a witness on lady-with-parrot that's there every morning? She's a regular, fo'sho.
They must have the record for least amount of barista staff turnover. I suspect many of them are artists as well - I secretly want to quit my desk job and trade lives.
They make fantastic coffee, and are very friendly to regulars. It is kindof hipster, but there are usually cute dogs hanging out on the porch so that's no big for me.Listed in: My ROTDizzays!

This place is like a friends home that you showed up to study your homework. Well.. if your friend's mom was eccentric and had a huge espresso counter installed.

I used to come here quite frequently when I worked and lived in the Freelard area. My co-worker and I had a regular coffee happy hour to relax and debrief about all the f'd up goings on of our workdays at that time. Fremont Coffee Company, in a cozy converted house right across from the also-good Ladro, provided a welcome respite. The baristas were adorable and friendly, and crafted tasty regular and soy lattes which we accompained with perfect biscotti, delicious quiche or moist banana bread.
This lovely cafe is great in any season, but is especially wonderful in summer, when you can share deck space with a few dogs, their owners, and random birds. This place simply rocks. -

Are you kidding me???
I was having a rushed breakfast and stumbled into this place with a friend of mine. Figured I'd grab a vanilla latte and a pastry to get the carbs ramped up.
The fresh flaky croissant with cheese and a thin slice of ham was one of the most heavenly morsels of food that has ever scathed my taste buds. I was immediately caught up into the third heaven, whether in the body or out of the body I do not know!
I consumed the pastry about 3 hours ago and am still drooling. I want to go back for more... right now... see you there! -

You can't go wrong with any of the following, ever:
- Free WiFi
- Tasty, tasty coffee
- Theo chocolates
- Wonderful, friendly employees
Now, putting all of these things together... FABULOUS! That's what you get at Fremont Coffee. Make sure to ask for the password for the WiFi, don't sit there trying to work for an hour on the internet from the coffee shop across the street (it works okay, but theirs works SO much better). It's nice that they have two computers available for use in one of the middle rooms. Also nice that they allow two hours of internet use, but you can use it longer if you purchase something else... don't know how stringent they are about that, though.
Couple downsides... not enough comfy seating, I think I noticed two chairs in one of the back rooms. Second, it almost has a library type feel, I wandered around, looking for a table to work at, and was given looks walking into each room. Uncomfortable! Hence the 4 stars instead of five.
Next time, I'm seeking out more comfy seating... or staying home and using the "free" internet here! -

Review from Doug C.
A friend and I were meeting for coffee and were originally going to go to Canal Coffee. But we accidently took a left at Albuquerque and ended up at Fremont Coffee. And it turned out to be a nice change of pace.
The coffee shop is a converted house and has a small little porch with park bench-type seating outdoors. Inside, the front room is a little larger than you expect and the counter is to your left. When you're standing there talking to the baristas in the doorway and picking up your beverage, it has the feeling of being handed a drink just as you're walking into a party. Nice relaxing vibe.
I was feeling adventurous and had a vanilla latte which was excellent and my friend had a cappuccino which was deemed good. I wasn't paying too much attention to the type of coffee, but I think it's Lighthouse. There also were Mighty-O donuts, beer and piles upon piles of pastries. There was some sort of chocolate croissant that I didn't buy, but will probably dream about every night until I do.
The house is arranged with narrow doorways leading to multiple smallish rooms. It's set up in a circle and we ended up wandering around the place twice before settling on a table. As we saw a few other people do that during our time there, I think they deliberately set it up as a type of indoor roundabout just for entertainment value.
They do have free Wi-Fi and several computers are also scattered around the house. There's also a deck which is probably fabulous during the summertime, just a bit less-so on a rainy March day.
All-in-all, it's a pretty nice choice for coffee and the multiple small rooms are a nice touch. Even though there were a fair number of people there, it didn't feel that crowded. I'll have to start making more wrong turns in the future.Listed in: Coffee Crawl?

Upon first glance I would sum up the Fremont Coffee Co to be a place Hemingway would go to. This assumption was based entirely upon looks. But while I am on the subject of aesthetics, Fremont Coffee Co does paint a nice picture, unless a person is handicapped. No wheelchair access and a few steep steps to climb with rails spread far apart to get into Fremont Coffee Co can mean hindrance for some. Walkways on the wrap around porch are narrowed by the presence of rattan chairs. While this could be a breezy situation for some, and I observed plenty of people enjoying this set-up, it should be noted that the layout of Fremont Coffee Co, inside and out, is not convenient to all.
The goods in the case are dry. The quiche looks like forgotten leftovers in the fridge. New food that looks like old food is not at all appetizing. The iced mocha I ordered was tasty though. I believe Fremont Coffee Co. uses Lighthouse Roasters. Lighthouse is very similar to Vita's but with less of a dominating flavor and more of a pleasant one. Wine and beer is offered and guess what? So is a little 'tude.
I gather that all of the people who work at Fremont Coffee Co. know each other quite well and most likely hang out together outside of work. A customer comes second to conversations about last night, so and so, and the great song playing on the radio. Rock out at work, fine, whatever, but um, don't snarl at the customer when you have to stop discussing the latest KEXP play list to do your job.
Anyway, I went out of my way to meander through the converted house's rooms. It is a cute concept and repurposed spaces amuse me. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go to Fremont Coffee Co and would be more likely to recommend other places for coffee and a nosh in Fremont. -

From a cafe-addict Seattle-tourist point of view, this is an well-above-average cafe in Seattle (and the standards are high in this city)! It's a cozy cafe, with an interesting maze-like feel in this old, converted house.
As you walk around the cafe, entering bedrooms, kitchens, and other various nooks, you may like you're sneaking through someone's house. But this is actually a nice setup for studying or reading in a quiet corner while drinking your favorite espresso drink. Most of the people I saw here were doing just that. It was a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. There are also plenty of windows next to the tables. Which nook or cranny will you choose?
The latte was great, the grilled cheese sandwich was really good, the staff was friendly, the customers seem happy to be there, and the location is great - take a walk around Fremont when you're done here, and if you need more reading material, check out Fremont News or Fremont Place Book Company a few blocks away.
I would definitely try to come back here anytime I am in Seattle. (Can I be a regular even as a tourist? :) -

I am a fan of Fremont Coffee but don't fee like I need to add much weight to all the other positive reviews. Instead, I'd like to address Jessica V's experience.
In terms of baristas, they have been generally very helpful and courteous. While I don't drink tea much over there, I did observe the baristas were patient and helpful to other customers in choosing tea. I would qualify that I usually go there in the mornings so I am not as sure about one's experience in some other time.
The stability of the wireless internet system could indeed be a bit improved, however. And it does seem like they have done some improvement in the past couple months or so. -

Great space, great ambiance. Coffee is strong, haven't tried their food. I use their computers and 4 hours are free with a purchase. Punch cards get punches even if I use the internet, unlike Online Coffee on the hill and downtown. Americano refills are only $1.
This place is just about perfect. The old house lived in feel is how I like a coffeeshop to be, kind of like the old Espresso Roma on the ave.
The staff are all nice and unassuming. Regina is very nice. Their counter could use a redesign, with the register before the espresso machine and a serving bar at the end, sometimes it get's crowded by the register because that is where they also set the finished drinks.
I never use their outdoor seating but they sure have a lot of it, with a big porch on the side and in the back. It would be a great place to take a first date for coffee.
Great place! I wish I could move in! -

I love Fremont Coffee! It's basically just a big house-turned-coffee-shop in Fremont with an awesome covered patio and little nooks and crannies to sit in. It's used widely as a study/work place for people with computers, but I often go there with friends to absorb some of that Fremont charm.
The staff are all very friendly and the other day one of the guys who works there (red hair?) made a really awesome foam skull in my mocha!!
Seriously, never seen anything like it.
Oh, and they have free computer access (customers only!) for those of us who are still in denial and haven't bought one of our own ; ) -
