I love drum circles, especially the one on Venice Beach.  The one at Hermosa Pier today was different, in the sense that it's for a good cause.

I was there mid-day, and could hear the drums all the way down the beach. http://static2.px.yelp...
When you hear all those drums, you must kick off your shoes and dance in the sand. The urge is irresistible. http://static4.px.yelp...

A drum circle sounds like a collection of heartbeats, to me.  I can get lost in it. http://static1.px.yelp...

My son plays drums, and I've had a secret fantasy for many years:  to play snare drums, a la Sheila E.!  Ha!
She performed on Redondo Pier last year, right in my own back yard, with a surprise appearance by Prince on keys.
Maybe it's not too late to start practicing.....

In response to Daniel C.............Sabina Sandoval shares her drumming talent as a source of inspiration and happiness for the community and NOT for financial gain or for personal glory.  I have worked with her for over 5 years and never once saw her be unfair to any child or mentally challenged adult.  If she stops the children from pounding on the bigger  drums or  disrupting in other ways,it is for the benefit of EVERYONE in the circle as it can cause chaos for those who are there to play and learn----It  is a HUGE effort to set up and maintain a monthly circle on Hermosa Beach and those that join  in are grateful for the love and energy that it takes---- Give " Free To Be Me" a fair chance and take your son to the Hermosa Beach Community Center when Ms. Sandoval facilitates a monthly circle for the Easter Seals and ARC challenged students....If you properly supervise and play with your son, I guarantee that you both will have a wonderful time ! PLEASE remove your negative post --it is inaccurate and totally unfair.  "FREE TO BE ME DRUM CIRCLE" is the  BEST "everyone friendly"  circle in the south bay .

Imagine sitting on the beach with 50 - 100 random people all hitting drums in unison while ocean wave are swelling and seaguls are flying overhead. That's what the Free to Be Me Drum Circle is all about. They meet at the Hermosa Beach Pier on the third Sunday of each month from noon to 3PM. Sabina, who leads the group, has been drumming for most of her life. She's dedicated her life to helping kids and adults with learning disabilities learn how to drum. This drum circle is free to anyone to take part in. It's awesome. Sabina literally hauls all the drums in her old vw bus, sets them up on the beach and leads 3 or 4 key drummers/musicians to get things started. Then everyone joins in hitting bongos, tamborines, bells, whatever they have. It's awesome. The drum circle is free, but you should come with a donation. The money goes towards buying drums for kids who can't afford them.

See their website at http://www.freetobemed...  for more info.
