704 reviews for this place, I'm sure I'm just going to be supporting what the rest said. I didn't get a chance to read any of it though.
I like this diner, it's stylish and hip. People who come here are usually cool and know the deal. I eat here late after going out or something. They have all the dishes you can imagine at a diner, huge onion rings, crazy sandwiches and other full meals.
I've been here many a late night with friends and I for one am very glad it's around.
The staff is really attentive and are at your table almost immediately. I don't sit inside a lot, although the atmosphere is really great inside. I just prefer to sit outside and people watch and have a smoke while I wait for my greasy drunk food to arrive.
My two favorite things to get at Fred's are the Mac Daddy and Cheese Balls and the red velvet cake. The menu is expansive though and whatever I'm in the mood for at the time, they've got it.
24/7, great food, fun people.
Ah, Freds.. I know of no other diner that can compete. From ambience, to service, to vibe... A++
This joint boasts a hybrid 1950's-turned-2000's vibe, with a twist of dry humor and pretty, black $ orange clad servers. The menu is styled very matter-of-fact, with mostly creative twists on standard American choices; spiced up with some favorites from the worlds of Mexican and Italian as well.
From the moment one sits down, they are noticed by the exceptional serving staff. If more than 5 minutes pass by without acknowledgment, there must be something wrong. Friendly attitudes, and smiling faces are to be expected from the mostly college-aged, mostly female serving staff.
I'll be honest - the majority of the fairer sexed servers are quite easy on the eyes, if I may say so myself. Not only that, but are they are always friendly: try striking up a conversation with one about anything media - film, music, art.. You will, no doubt, have a nice conversation, and perhaps have made a new pleasant acquaintance.
I have ordered 90% of the items on the Fred 62's menu, and have never been disappointed. I will go ahead and recommend the "Cali Calamari" and the "Patty Melt" - my Freds Favorites..
I love this place, and anyone looking for good food and good vibes will too.
A slick 24-hr diner with a big, diverse menu -- and for that I'm grateful when you have a hankering for food at odd hours like I do.
The OCD in me also appreciates that all the condiment bottles on each table are wiped clean and look new. The Asian in me is embarrassed to admit this -- and sheepish to even be embarrassed, but I uh, really enjoy the Chinese Chicken Salad. I hate that moniker, it's like saying I love General Tsao's Chicken.
But it's just a tasty salad, chopped bits of romaine, napa cabbage, green beans, celery, fried won ton ribbons, carrots and a generous smattering of cashews, all of which make for a very crunchy meal. The dressing is flavorful, a nice combination of citrusy and tart with soy sauce, sesame and chili oil.
Other solid standbys: The BLTA, Charles Bukowski (grilled ham & cheese), burger & lemon bundt cake with a side of macerated strawberries. Not a fan of their Asian-style soups -- the vegetarian broths are just too lacking in flavor -- if I wanted late-night noodle soups near my house, I'll stick to Daikokuya or SueHiro in Little Tokyo.
2 and half stars for sure!!!!!
Its in a cool location with some pretty awesome artwork/graffiti across the street. We sat outside and it took forever for someone to help us or acknowledge we were there. I ordered the tower of power which is a HUGE turkey club that was very hard to eat and enjoy it was pretty much tasteless. My girlfriend had the b.l.t.l.a. a b.l.t. with avocado and hers was the same bland as well. Also the fries were really greasy... The lemonade was overly tart as well. Guess we went on a bad day or something.
I came here with one of my BFFs on a whim - and I'm so glad I did. Despite the general parking cluster $%^@ that is Los Feliz, we found a spot on a neighborhood side street and hoofed it a couple blocks to Fred's.
After waiting a couple of minutes for a table to open up, we grabbed a booth and got down to the business of ordering dinner. I had the Manhandler (appropriate on SOOOO many levels) and split a Chocolate Malt.
Service was fantastic, the food was tasty, and the convenient hook ups for powering laptops or mobile phone chargers were an unexpected surprise.
3.5 stars
This place has pretty tasty food and is open 24/7, that right there is a winning combo. The prices are relatively steep but when taken in context i.e. location and hours of operation, it all rounds out. Good option if you want food late-night...
Screw IHOP or Denny's...this is THE place to go to after a night of drinks and dancing with friends. I don't care if it's a hipster hotspot...I will gladly elbow my way through the sea of American Apparel and handlebar mustaches to get my grub on.
My chili cheeseburger was so amazing that I just wanted to make out with it slowly and savor every bite. The mac daddy and cheese balls are also fantastic. It's pricier than the average diner but completely justifiable as an occasional treat.
The menu was overwhelming, but in a deliciously good way, and I can't wait to go back and sample more plates. Watch out, bossa nova waffle sundae, I'm coming for you!
I love this place because it's a late night diner, a great place to go after partying. I always get their mac daddy cheese balls and tuna melt. It's soooooo good. Everything else is pretty good, their juicy lucy burger and their salmon stack are amazing.
It's like a take your buddy for a quick bite kinda place, nothing fancy.
The Cold sugar craving hit again the other night. Passing by Fred's, I remembered that there might be something there to quench my need.
The Chocolate Brownie covered in vanilla ice cream. Saved by Fred.
A simple desert and a smile on my face.
Overpriced and bland. Atmosphere is great though and people watching is interesting.
Ugh. Everything is so greasy.

Hey! It's a diner - so don't expect incredible cuisine. But Fred 62 is open 24-hours which is a… Read more »
Everything I had was good here! This is one of the must eat places when I lived in SF and would visit LA. Their pancakes are the best - as advertised in their menu - crispy on the edges and soft buttery goodness. I always get there Fred Mc Murry - Sausage patty, eggs, hashbrowns on a buttery bun - so good! Their fried mac & cheese balls are awesome but something to be shared....I could only eat 2 and I think it came with 6-8?.
The t-shirt logos that the waiters wear are always amusing. My favorite is: Rehab is for quitters.
I know fred's is cliche hipster atmosphere and blah blah whatever.. I enjoy the food most of the time, it's close to my house, and it's open 24/7. The Mac Daddy Cheese balls are total drunk food but oh so good, I love their veggie burger, Cali California omelette, and these little portabella mushroom taquito things are amazing!! Some things seem to be a little pricy for what they are, but the food is consistent so it's ok, i guess.
I give it only 3 stars because of the service. Slow and unfriendly. I am not sure why someone can't at least smile and pretend to be friendly... I mean, you're getting business and a tip from me for cryin out loud.
The Euler-Mascheroni constant is useful in mathematical analysis. At Fred 62, the oily macaroni is a constant. This is of use to people seeking good, greasy late-night comfort food.
Aside from good oleaginous pasta, other virtues to recommend Fred 62 are its burgers, fries and sandwiches.
Here are a couple of easy-to-remember ways that Fred 62 is always open:
Fred 62 is open 24/7. If you add 24 and 7, you get 31. Two times 31 is 62.
The digital root of 62 is eight. There are four letters in the name Fred. 4 x 2 = 8. Eight sideways looks like the symbol for infinity, and Fred 62 is open infinitely.
Too difficult? Here's an easier one: Fred 62 is on Vermont. To be precise, it's at 1850 N. Vermont. 1850 is the year California was admitted to the union. California is a state. Vermont is also a state. Its capital is Montpelier. Are we concerned with Vermont the state? No, we are concerned with Vermont the street. The capital of Vermont the street is V, which is also the Roman numeral five. Fred 62 is open 365 days a year. The digital root of 365 is 5.
QED.
This is a find.
Comprehensive menu that serves breakfast all day, a solid and diverse sandwich section that doesn't skimp on the ingredients, a few dinner plates, some korean/japanese dishes, a south of the border section and some tasty desserts.
As noted, it caters to the hipster/los feliz crowd. I am not into the scene but didn't really care. The decor and style gives nod to a 50's diner but with more of an updated feel.
I had the BLT with avocado that hit the spot. Because of the size of the menu, I can imagine some dishes are hit or miss but this is a spot to come to when you know what to order. I also decided to try out the peanut butter milkshake and that sealed the deal. It was one of the better shakes I've had in LA.
This is a definite go to if you are in the area. Lots of variety, open late, relaxed atmosphere and you can find something that will hit the spot.
Over-rated hipster establishment with some damn good breakfast!
i keep fgetting forced to come here when i absolutely hate the food. The decor and theme I'll admit is cool, but i ain't there to eat the chairs or the punky sexy waitresses.
The food always makes me sick, the service is slow, and there are far too many people in hoodie sweatshirts. If you walked by and threw a hand grenade in the doorway a mushroom cloud of vintage clothing would result, and there would be six less bands in L.A.
It's 3AM. I'm drunk and haven't had dinner. Cheeseburger. Cold fries and Onion rings. Good cheeseburger. Probably saved my life. (Thanks Amy!). Fried things? Old, old oil.
1:30PM. Day after. Fingers still smell like fast food. Sober.
Fred 62? Sober? No thanks.
Alright.
They get +1 star for excellent service and trippy bathrooms. You can't get the experience of looking up at the polka dotted ceiling while peeing and finding two upside down clowns staring at your lady parts just anywhere.
Oh, and my chocolate/banana milkshake was pretty darn decent.
FOOD STILL SUCKS, but whatevs. According to all my friends: "Teresa, you just don't order the right stuff." If they knew how to cook, at least one of the three dishes I've ordered there so far would be somewhat tasty, don't ya think?

"Legit," is what I told our server/bartender Billy when he asked me how my food was... This place is legit and on point... Great place for late night food after a hard night of it seeing a show at the beautiful Greek Theatre...
I had the cheeseburger and it was absolutely delicious, you know how when you order a cheeseburger and you are somewhat reluctant that the juices will moisten the bottom portion of your hamburger bun making it wet and unpleasant. That wasn't the issue in this case. The texture was perfect, bun slightly toasted maybe?... everything sat well and didn't slide out when you bit into it... the fries were great too... the fresh cut type!...
Cool area, good looking women, interesting interior and atmosphere, but 30% too hipsterish.
The service was five stars, and the burger was cooked pretty well but the accompanying french fries were a bit disgusting. It was a bit pricey for diner food, but definitely a cut above Denny's and the like.
I'd be interested to go back and try something else, but the cute hostesses were enough to ensure the four star rating.
Good for breakfast, good for late night. Not perfect, and not as cheap as it should be, but never a bad choice if you're in the neighborhood.
Hear, hear.
Like others have mentioned, parking is a bitch, but the food is good. The place is pretty cool.
It's nice to know that you have a 24 hour diner just down the block but there food (based on what we ordered) was nothing special. I must admit that there waffles were deliciously fluffy but it seemed much more of a snack than a meal. And the bf ordered tacos but it really wasn't all quite there.
Since there menu is so extensive, I'm sure we can find something we like next time but as of now, it's a great place for late nights.
Five words- Mac Daddy and Cheese Balls. Yummy yummy yummy. Who wouldn't like fried mac and cheese? Well that is just a small sample of the delicious things that Fred 62 has to offer. Delicious breakfast dishes, I personally love the Bearded Mr. Frenchy which is crunchy french toast. Great noodle bowls, sandwiches, salads and specialties. Their desserts are great, I have a thing for the apple punk tarts.
This is one of my all time favorite late night dining restaurants in LA. The prices, while odd are actually pretty reasonable, the service is pretty good, and though there is often a wait for a table, they usually try their best to get you in ASAP. If you want some comfort food that thinks out of the box, come to Fred 62, you will be happily satisfied.
If you go with a CROWD, you will get good service. If you go by yourself, be prepared to be ignored from the moment you walk in.
The food's really pretty good. Sexy-Diner Food, I'd call it - and it's open late.
The waiters can be good, friendly people, but for the most part are too busy not-serving you to serve you. The waitresses are usually "cool" in that cliched "edgy" punk-rock style. Oh, hey: Remember the 90s when that vintage decor, 50s throwback vaguely rockabilly look was cool? Yeah. So do they.
These gripes aside, the food is good. It's a fun diner and a really neat neighborhood and I HAVE had good experiences there with service - TWICE even! I recommend this place to people who are drunk, people who like eating at places that aren't "Chili's" but have similar food, Hollywood Wannabes who just moved to town and to people who like fried things and pie.
If you want good breakfast or you want to eat somewhere after going out, this is the place to go to. If you're within the area, don't go to iHOP or Denny's, eat at this place. Their pancakes always taste incredible and I highly recommend their nachos. It's open 24 hours, but there's usually a wait. It's okay though.
I love this place! Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, they do it all and do it well. Cheeseburger and macaroni and cheese balls are my favorite, so don't leave without trying them.
It can be a bit pricey for breakfast, but reasonably priced for all other times. Try Franklin (due north) for decent parking not far away.
I've been a fan of this place since high school. It's open 24 hours, and the wait isn't usually too bad. It goes pretty quickly. I love their breakfast items, and their coffee is pretty good. It's pretty busy after 2am when the bar crowd stumbles in. The service isn't superb, but it's better than your average restaurant in LA.
I'd really like for someone to explain to me what all the hype is about this place. It's overpriced, the food is shit, and the service isn't great. besides the great location right on Vermont, this spot did not impress.
anyone?
Dig the old-time vibe.
My first L.A. eatery.
Fondness in my heart.
I love, love, LOVE Fred 62's--but only under certain conditions. I prefer to go at night with a small party (like, 2 people) and sit outside. When the weather's nice it gives you a lot more elbow room, allows smoking (if you're into that), and generally provides a bit more secluded restaurant experience. I will say this, the service is generally a bit slow & forgetful. Probably not a good place to eat for those of you that require constant server attention.
I've tried multiple items off their menu but consistently find myself drawn to their breakfast foods. The Bearded Mr. Frenchy is nothing short of amazing, sometimes I'll add on an order of hashbrowns and their homemade sausage patty if I really got my groove on during the evening. I don't think you can go wrong with anything off their breakfast menu. Tried one of their milkshakes but I can't say I was a big fan. Something was just off about the milk to ice cream ratio.
They have a nice hot tea selection, a welcome change from being offered crappy plain Lipton brand at most diners. Plus the bags are shaped like pyramids! I never knew my teabag would be the fanciest part of my meal. (There's a bad joke in there somewhere...)
I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the parking but get real, this is Los Angeles and parking sucks just about everywhere. For a good set of pancakes at 2am, I'm sure you could use the exercise that extra couple of blocks will give you.
He took me here for brunch yesterday morning. For once, we drove around and decided to 'wing' where to eat. He said that this place was always packed (according to the reviews below, he was right), so we decided to check it out.
Packed it wasn't quite at that time, but it was just before 12PM - just before brunch rush, so that probably explains it. We sat outside because the wait for an indoor table was 5-10 minutes. Yes, we can be impatient.
The hostess took us outside and a sweet waitress immediately came to take our drinks (read: water with lemon) orders. He ended up ordering a Roast Beef Burger with a side of fries and I had the Terrific Turkey Burger with a side of mixed field greens with balsamic vinaigrette (they make all their own dressings). Presentation of the burgers was fun - they had a fried what-it-was-i-still-don't-know baked on to a stick that they staked into the middle of your burger. Sort of like a potato chip.
In any case, I think he was satisfied enough with his burger while I, on the other hand, was not very impressed with mine. I asked for wheat bread, so this is what it came out to be: wheat bread with chopped iceberg lettuce (already a ding for me), a couple slices of red tomato, and their chipotle ketchup sauce. Oh, and of course there was the turkey patty (dry..). It just didn't feel innovative or inspired to me.
I'm sure I didn't have what I should have had. There has to be a reason why it's always so popular. :)
3 because service was great and I like that they had a theme (50s diner / gas station-esque).
I guess any restaurants along Los Feliz already fails in the parking department since parking around that area is hard to come by especially on a Saturday night. So it took us about 30 minutes to find street parking. Luckily, we didn't have to wait to be seated once we got in. We were seated almost immediately.
So I flipped through the menu to check out what they have. I settled for a tuna melt, and we shared the famous Mac Daddy and Cheese Balls for our appetizer. I loved the Mac Daddy and Cheese Balls! Besides it's genius name, it was nice and crispy. Not to mention the cheese was nice and gooey. As far as the tuna melt, it's a tuna melt. But it did satisfy my hungry stomach. I did appreciate the tuna melt more that it didn't have any celery in it.
As far as the service goes, it's meh. For some reason it was kind of a challenge to get another glass of water. Our waiter wasn't too attentive that we had to flag another waiter just so we could get another glass of water. So I can sympathize with the reveiwer below me.
If it wasn't for their Mac Daddy and Cheese Balls, I wouldn't consider coming back here. Maybe during a slow day, when I can get better parking and better service.
Fred 62 sucks. Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. If they do tell you otherwise know that they are obviously enemies of yours who want to sabotage your life. There is only ONE reason to go to Fred 62, and it's a good reason, the reason is - there is an extremely good looking crowd that goes there. All hipster types, guys with tattoos, girls without bras, lots of skin and lots of trucker hats. (I am dead serious too, I must have seen three girls without bras there today). Anyways, if that's your thing then I recommend it. I went this afternoon and wanted to have sex with everyone there... including myself. Now, if you don't get laid while you're there, I guarantee you will be having this conversation after:
YOU: My meal sucked.
FRIEND: Yeah, but mine sucked worst.
YOU: Well, at least it was overpriced.
FRIEND: Yeah, at least we let other hip people know we aren't afraid to pay too much for garbage disguised as food.
YOU: Yeah, we rock.
FRIEND: Oww, my trucker hat hurts my head.
And Scene...
The only things I can recommend here are the human scenery and that the Tower of Power is not a bad sandwich. The other negatives are: There's never enough inside seating; if you sit at the counter the chairs are too far away from the counter top and you have to balance your anus like you're doing a pilates exercise on the chair to keep the chair from swiveling; the food is generally bad - I have mistakenly taken a couple girls here only to have them be disappointed; everything is overpriced, the service is spotty, and did I mention you have to balance your anus if you sit at the counter?
Shame on me because I know, I'll forget how much I hate this place and go again in another 4 months, only to anger myself more. But the bottom line is, there are just too many other cool fun places in Los Feliz/Silverlake to waste your time here.
What the heck happened to my hipster savvy Fred 62? Yes, this place has always been the hub for side fringe and men that wear tights to show off their dents for crotches, but now Fred 62 is doing the whole 'Hooters' thing? Are they changing their name to Fred 69s?
I was embarrassed when I took my chick friend here the other day. The girls are prancing around in their mini skirt uniforms with their butts nearly plopping out each time the bed down to serve food and you know, I know most women have some cellulite, but why advertise it?
To make matters worse, and I know you guys are gonna be like, "Wha.... I'm eating at Fred 62 EVERYDAY NOW!" my waitress' top was so low that while she was leaning in taking our order her microscopic boobs were actually popping out, which was amazing, because she hardly had any boobs... that is how revealing her outfit was. I saw NIP god dammit! Ruined my meal! I'm suing for emotional distress, damn Nipple Bandit stole my innocence! Yes, I have boobs too, but I try not to look at them. I'm Catholic and God would hate me if I did.
As for the food, it's nothing fancy. I will say, I feel the quality has gone down. The coleslaw was bland and tasted pretty bad, which is impressive since it's hard to fuck that up, and I was pretty sure the bacon on my BLTLA was pre-cooked not to mention overcooked. Bacon should not have the texture of jerky.. and no mayo or anything on the bread.... it was a dry snack on a dry day and the boobage and booty walking about didn't make up for it!
Fred's is a good place to meet up with friends for some late night greasy food. The atmosphere is great, but I just can't think of a time I've left thinking, "damn, that food was pretty good."
Good milkshakes and open 24 hours. After 2 pm this is as good as it gets in this part of town. Retro sexy waitress outfits on average looking girls... it's a hot greasy mess. yum.
Oh Fred, I alway find myself here now and then and don't know why. Your a bit far from where I live and your always crowded. The parking is horrible even late in the night and the food, well the food is just alright. I feel like this is a case of drunk dialing syndrome.
The best thing I have had here is their vegetarian burger with buffalo mozzarella. Surprisingly quite tasty. They are vegetarian friendly and have the usual diner menu items. You can get your standard omelets, burritos, burgers and deep fried goodies. Same stuff you can get at any diner really. So why is it that people come here?
There really isn't much going on in the area so lots of people congregate here at night. It is a great spot to people watch and just hang out and share your stories from the night. My personal favorite thing about this place is the car decor they use in their booths.
