My wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary at Frascati, and they did not disappoint. To be honest, I thought I made the reservation at a restaurant that had a full bar, but it was okay that they just served beer and wine. The food and service were excellent.

I had a special appetizer that had clams, mussels, and some other seafood in a tomato sauce. It was amazing... the best mussels and clams I've had in a long time. My wife ordered the filet and I opted for the duck breast. Both were excellent - prepared perfectly and very flavorful.

Overall I was very impressed. The restaurant is small, but we had plenty of room and it was very quaint. And what a value for the price... I've been to much more expensive restaurants that weren't nearly as good (service or food).

The only downside is they did not have a full bar - only beer and wine. That wasn't a problem for me but my wife doesn't drink beer or wine, so we left as soon as we finished eating and went to a nearby bar for a nightcap.

Definitely a disappointment.  Especially for the price, the food was sub-par, and average at best.  We ordered an appetizer of foie gras. It turned out to be a patte (I must have misread the menu, as I was looking forward to a grilled piece) and combined with the choice and texture of the bread it was served with, the dish did not impress. The service was fine, definitely just fine.  One of the staff members was oblivious to the fact that him standing above our table and carrying on a loud conversation with the table next to us, made it hard for us to hear ourselves talk.  And, unfortunately his ass, while being at eye level to me for at least twenty minutes, wasn't much of a pleasant distraction [yes, that would have made at least more bearable ;-)].

With dinner, they provided salad / appetizer size forks. I don't know, I kind of like a fork to extend beyond my palm, rather than jamming into my palm, when cutting into a slab of meat.    When I asked about this, I was told that they were a bistro and not gary danko.  When did being provided with a properly sized fork (with a meat bearing entree, too boot) become contingent on the "fine dining" rating of the restaurant? Next...

Another over priced and over hyped "gourmet" restaurant.  We eat a lot of gourmet meals from top of the line chefs and the one thing where many fail is by not appealing to a wider palate.

Their cheese selection was horrendous. The steak tartare was beyond bland. Thank goodness for the $12 salad with croutons and the bread with olive oil and basaltic dressing. We skipped the entrees and have no regrets.

Fantastic date night, great food with a neighborhood feel. Waitress was awesome and even chased us down when my finance forgot her purse! -she ran half a block, uphill, to save the night. Anyplace with that quality of people deserves to be 5 stars.

I've been to Frascati a grand total of 2 times so far, and both experiences were wonderful! First time was to celebrate the bf and my 1 year anniversary and second time was to celebrate Father's Day... appropriate for both occasions!

Food was YUMMMM!!! These are some of the items I've tried.

    Appetizers:
Mushroom Bruschetta (3.5 stars): Personally I'm not a huge mushroom fan, but I did like the combination of mushrooms they were using, flavor wasn't too mushroomy, 'shrooms had good texture... Probably would be 4-5 stars if you are a mushroom lover!

Steak Tartare (3 stars): Also not bad, but to be honest, I'm more partial towards Vietnamese steak carpaccio because I think it has simpler, yet richer flavors.

    Entrees:
Maple Leaf Duck (5 stars): OMGeeees... love. Maybe I'm being racist, but duck at "American" places usually disappoints me because I'm Chinese... so usually I compare all types of duck to Chinese Roast Duck because Chinese people really have their recipe for super flavorful (yet oily) and tender duck DOWN. But this one DID NOT disappoint! Duck was so tender, and I loved all the combinations of ingredients they added to this dish... the spaetzle (kinda pasta-y/cheesy consistency), heart of palm, and other things that I naturally had to google to find out what it was.

Grilled Pork Chop (5 stars): Also super delicious. Pork is a tricky one sometimes because people tend to overcook it for fear of having rare pork... but this one was cooked just right, and it was one of the most tenderest porks I've ever had.

    Dessert:
Chocolate Bread Pudding (10 million stars plz): This dessert was AMAZING. Wow wow wow. Wow? It's kinda like a sweet, semi-thick chocolate cake with some bombass hazelnut ice cream that perfectly balances and complements the whole thing. I would go back to this restaurant JUST FOR THIS. Probably big enough for 2-4 ppl depending on how hungry you are, but I can probably eat one of these on my own and so can the bf just because it's so delicious. They sometimes run out near the end of the night, so ask your waiter to save you one!

I forgot what fish my mom had, but she said that was also really delicious. Other than the food, ambiance is great. Really cute and intimate seating conducive for great conversation... upstairs seating is super cute too, overlooking the whole restaurant. Only downside is that parking in this area is usually a pain, so go a bit early for your reservation!

4.5 stars?  Really?  This was my first 4.5 disappointment.  My fatty stomach has always had a good experience with restaurants with 4.5 stars on yelp.  This place is definitely a place for locals.  I decided to drive here and it took over an hour for me to find parking.  I had to park my fat ass on Bay and Hyde which forced me to walk me fat ass up Hyde street.  FML and fuck this 4.5 star rating.  I was looking forward to eating the grilled pork chop.  All the reviews on here say to "try the pork chop" and "its the best pork chop I've ever had."  I am assuming people that ordered this dish and claimed this was the best pork chop ever were either starving or like eating cardboard.  The pork chop was definitely disappointing.  It was dry and tough to cut.  I also thought the demi glace that came with it was nasty.  The "smashed potatoes" were homemade hash browns.  If you want a good pork chop try NOPA or even Hillstone.  The pork chop here was disgusting.  My sexy woman ordered the seafood risotto.  It was delicious.  Definitely the best dish of the night.  The waitress gave us the stink eye because we didnt order their signature chocolate bread pudding dessert.  She can kiss my brown eye.

We got to the restaurant an hour early but the staff was nice enough to seat us even though their restaurant was extremely busy. The ambiance is intimate but slightly noisy because of all the dinner conversations going on.

I highly recommend the Mushroom Bruschetta for starters.  The steak tartare was pretty yummy but I think Wayfare Tavern's steak tartare is way better. The gnocchi appetizer was ok.  There was nothing too memorable about it.

For the main course, I had the papardelle with pork. It was pretty delicious and the pork was so tender but I think the noodles were a bit bland. My BF had the Frutti di Mare. The seafood they used tasted pretty fresh and the risotto was prepared well. My BF's dad really liked the Filet Mignon.  I got a chance to try it and I must say they cooked it perfectly.  The meat just melted in your mouth and it was perfectly seasoned.

My only complaint was that I had to ask a three times to get some balsamic vinegar for my bread...hence the minus point!

So let's just get it out of the way here.....it's ALL about the Bread Pudding.  If you eat nothing else at this place, you'll *definitely* want to get the bread pudding

Halloween festivities brought us to the neighborhood & we had had Frascati bookmarked for quite some time - thank goodness now was the time to give them a go

Started out w/ the Burrata w/ Fig Jam & greens on Bruschetta - omg this burrata was so incredibly creamy & delish - paired w/ the sweet fig jam & the charred bread - awesome!

Although listed as an appie, I asked to get the Gnocchi as my main & it was extremely flavorful.  Unique grainy texture - almost like a cornmeal but the dumplings were still soft & fluffy w/out being chewy.  Lots of leeks, mushrooms & a creamy butter sage sauce - this thing was awesome!

1 buddy got the Duck Breast & claimed it was among the best she's tasted

The bf got the Seafood Risotto & claimed it was the creamiest risotto he's ever had - plate completely polished

Dessert.....well, let's just say we only ordered 1 Bread Pudding but could have easily stuffed ourselves silly w/ 1 for each of us.....it was THAT good.  Ginormous portion....super chocolaty, w/ toasted Hazelnuts & the ice cream was a perfect pairing for the warm pudding - totally took it to the next level & even a week later, we were all still talking about it & more importantly, still craving it!

my boyfriend and i went here to celebrate our anniversary and frascati did not disappoint (although we had to walk all the way from union square...we clearly know nothing about distance perception). we had reservations but ended up arriving earlier and they gladly seated us with no problems. the service was excellent and not overbearing. we didn't really have to wait long for anything until the end, when the restaurant got a little busier.

i had the risotto and he had the pork chop and they were both amazing! it was one of those things where i literally stuffed myself to eat it all because i didn't want it to go to waste. we ended the dinner with the chocolate bread pudding, per yelpers' recommendations, and it was incredible. it had the crispy edges you find on the end brownie pieces and had just right amount of sweetness/chocolate. my boyfriend fell in love with the homemade ice cream that it came with. all in all, a huge success!

Booked into Frascati on a Friday night in SF on the back of the great Yelp reviews.

The restaurant itself was pretty unassuming, with a nice laid back feel. The staff were really friendly, and our waiter was really attentive, and gave us some good wine recommendations.

The food was wonderful - normally I wouldn't both manage 3 courses but  pushed myself to do it here as it was so good!

It wasn't cheap but it was certainly worth every penny, and I'll be going back soon.

This cute little restaurant with a cozy ambiance serves up seasonal, farm-fresh New American dishes.

Typically it gets pretty packed so be sure to make a reservation in advance.  However, on the night I went with my husband and friend, it was a quiet night and we got a lovely seat right at the window.  Our server was a super friendly lady that answered a bazillion questions we had about the menu and wine list... What a trooper!

For food, we ordered a feast consisting of the Artisanal Cheese Plate, Mushroom Bruschetta,  Russet Potato Gnocchi, Fresh Pappardelle, Frutti di Mare Risotto, and the Maple Leaf Duck Breast. All the dishes were phenomenal (I personally adored the bruschetta), but since Frascati has homemade pasta, the pasta entrees are the way to go.

We opted out for dessert but their chocolate bread pudding concoction sounded divine...Maybe next time!

Frascati is a strong 4 in my book.

I have been twice and definitely look forward to my next visit. I lived in the neighborhood which was nice given Russian Hill's notorious lack of parking. As others noted, you can take the Hyde St trolley here which can be fun from time to time. Frascati is on the pricier side, but you definitely get what you pay for.

When I want a delicious, intimate dining experience in an ultra-local neighborhood, Frascati is high on my list!

I had been dying to get to this place for awhile since it is just a few blocks from where I live, but I avoided it due to the price.  I usually only go to a few of these types of places a year.  I finally got the opportunity when my parents came into town for my birthday (hey I did let them stay at my place for several weeks!).

I had huge expectations after reading the reviews and this place delivered.  I'm happy to say it was the best meal I've had in the two years since I moved to SF.  I'm a big fan of tuna tartare and it was delicious here.  The serrano chilis were a perfect touch.   For a main, I ordered some type of skillet steak dish served over an heirloom salad.  It was amazing and I was blown away.  I had to force myself to slow down and enjoy it.  I tried the duck and pork chop too and both were excellent.

We had to try to bread pudding too.  It was very good, but I was expecting a little better after reading the reviews here.  This place is awesome and I will definitely come back if I have a big date sometime, although it will probably be awhile they way things are going now.

And thanks to parents for making this review possible :)

This place is great, the people are friendly and the food is great! The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because the starters completley outweighed the entrees AND they knew it was my husband's 30th birthday and I was a little bummed they didn't give a free dessert...but the dessert was delicious...

Resturaunt: located on the corner of Hyde Street, first apperance is like a cute little cafe in Paris.  Strung with pretty lights, there a few tables are located outside and are up against the resturaunts large window front so you can peak inside while still enjoying the fresh air. The place is small, i guess it was originally house so it almost feels like you are eating at your own home but with cute tables and great ambiance.

We were seated upstairs right next to a large window that overlooked the streets. I am so glad that we sat near the window because it was SO HOT upstairs. The upstairs section is located right above the kitchen so it got extremely warm.

Food: We ordered a bottle of red Lambrusco which was delicious and was a great price. We heard great things about the cheese plate so we will have to try that next time. We started off with Russet Potatoe Gnocci and the Grilled Bread Salad. The Gnocci was BY FAR the best thing we had all night. great flavor and textures. yum! my husband had the pork chop which he said was very delicious and he finished the whole thing and I had the rissoto with clams, shrimp and mussels. I was pleasantly surprised that this didn't have a strong fish flavor. i could pick up indiviudals flavors which and it was very creamy. We had the black and white bread pudding which caramel sauce and hazelnut ice cream! SO amazing! i would absolutely recommend it!

Service: I have to say the overall service was amazing. I had mentioned once that it was my husband 30th birthday and when we walked up they wished him a happy birthday and made sure to put a candle on the bread pudding when they brought it out. Very sweet.

Overall experience was great. We will be going back for the appetizers and desserts :)

I picked this place (and many of the dishes) based on the strong yelp reviews of late, and once again yelp was right.

Every dish we ordered was excellent, with the highlights being the grilled octopus salad, seafood risotto, and of course the chocolate bread pudding. The grilled bread salad, duck, and monkfish were also excellent, but I'd put them one level below those above (probably based on personal taste more than anything else).

The place feels like the neighborhood gem type, and the service was very friendly and knowledgeable, albeit slightly on the slow side.

Tiniest place EVAR!!!! NEVER come on a Friday (especially after 8pm). It's horrendous trying to look for parking around the area. My friend booked this place, so we came. We got seated upstairs in the corner right where you come up the stairs. Sitting up there sort of reminded me of ron weasley's house. I was ready to bolt if I heard something squeak. Of course it didn't.

I started off with the figs wrapped with prosciutto. It wasn't as ripe as I thought it would be biting into it. It didn't give off that sweetness. I also got to taste the gnocchi with mushrooms, which was pretty tasty. Pretty salty. Next round included pork chops, duck breast, and roasted chicken. As everyone has said, the pork chops is pretty good. I could tell it's been in a brine ... a bit salty. The duck and chicken were cooked really well, but also pretty salty. The meat was tender and juicy though.

We wandered into here randomly for dinner, because the place we originally wanted to go to had an hour long wait. I'm glad we did, this place was great! This restaurant is located in a cute little neighborhood and was nestled off a main street. Even though cable cars would pass by occasionally it wasn't noisy on this street.

This place wasn't busy when we got there at 6:30 on a Saturday night, but shortly afterward around 7pm it got packed. The ambiance was great, very romantic if that's what you're looking for. Service was amazing, wait staff would check on us often. The food was great, I had the pappardelle noodles, which was fantastic! Tom cat had pork chops and consumed every bit of it. They also had a nice wine selection. I would definitely come back to Frascati's the next time I'm visiting SF.

Chose this spot based on other Yelp reviews for a nice dinner with my wife on our visit to the Bay area. It did not disappoint.

We snagged the last reservation they had for a Friday night (9:30pm). After a short trip on a cable car from our hotel we arrived a few minutes early and were received with a warm welcome and quickly escorted to a slightly small but cozy table upstairs overlooking the kitchen. The view allowed us to observe the wonderful food being prepared beneath and delight in the aromas wafting up.

We shared the Gnocchi for starters, and it was wonderful. For our mains my wife had the pan seared Filet Mignon and I had the Duck Breast. They were  a treat. Great presentation, wonderful textures and flavors from the accompanying sides and incredible flavors.

Dessert was no let down either: The Chocolate Bread Pudding....just WOW! We shared it and we couldn't finish it, but I really wanted to. It was incredible.

Our server was very friendly and knowledgable, the ambience was great and we were both very satisfied with the whole experience. The bill was $118 (incl. tax) for an app, two mains, a dessert and three glasses of wine. I thought that was reasonable for the quality of the food and wine, and would have no trouble going back and paying that again!

This is a awesome Russian Hill neighborhood restaurant.  I came here on Wednesday night with 3 friends and was not expecting such a great meal.
The place has a very laid-back contemporary ambiance and honestly felt like it could be someone's home.

    Food:
    1) Russet Potato Gnochi - excellent, they didnt go overboard on cheese/cream
    2) Burata Caprese - I had forgotten how good tomatoes can taste, simple ingredients with alot of flavor
    3) Capelini Puttanesca - excellent, seafood was fresh and cooked well.
    4) Roasted Half-Chicken - better than Zuni Cafe - more tender, better flavor, skin was delectable.
    5) Salmon - very good, but a bit more subdued compared to the other dishes.

    6) Bread Pudding - finger-licked the plate clean, it was that good.
    7) Home-made Ice Cream - all flavors great, would recommend the coffee flavored one.

I wish we had got to sit in the main room to get a feel for the cable car/pedestrian ambiance as opposed to upstairs.

All in all - would come back any day.

We just had dinner here for my birthday.  It was great.  For starters, our waitress looked like Isis from the 1970s Saturday morning TV show so I was feeling happy from the start.  This put me in a throw-back mood, and lets face it---this place is a throwback to the San Francisco I remember from 30 years ago, back when the city was full of unpretentious small neighborhood restaurants.

We split the gnocchi appetizer, which was delicious.  We followed this with salads.  I had the octopus salad--another hit, with lots of meaty octopus and tasty chorizo that gave it a little kick.  As an entree, the papardelle with sugo was just perfect, and to finish it off, the bread pudding was as good as all the reviews say it is.

This was an excellent choice for a night out in the big city.

I had a birthday dinner here last night.  I selected this place because it was so highly reviewed on yelp.

The food was AMAZING.  We had almost all of the starters but the ones I liked most were the fig bruschetta dish (don't remember exactly what it was called) and the burrata caprese (although, I've never met a burrata I didn't like).  Oh, wait, I can't forget the cheese plate.  I've eaten many cheese plates but this one introduced me to new pairings - I was impressed.

The entrees were just as delicious.  We ordered the duck, the chicken, the flat iron steak and the pork sugo pasta.  They were all super delicious but the two that stand out were the roasted chicken (which was SO tender and flavorful) and the pasta, which I asked for HOT (and was pleasantly surprised to find it so).  The pork sugo was just as tender and plentiful as the half chicken dish and was complemented with fresh pasta ribbons.  The fresh pasta was nice, but I'd have eaten the pork on toast.  haha!

We brought our own dessert (as it was my birthday) so I can't say anything about their sweets.  I'm sure they're just as mouthwatering as the rest of their menu, though.

I DID NOT GIVE THEM 5 STARS because they sat us in the loft, directly above the kitchen/stove.  The restaurant is basically a house converted into a restaurant, which is fine if you're seated on the bottom level (or maybe even in the upstairs back room).  Our table was NOT and so within a half hour of our arrival, we were all developing a nice shiny glow to our skin (mostly apparent in our reddening faces).  We took our time with our food and were probably there for 3 hours (maybe 3.5 hrs).  By the end of the evening, we had sweated out of our clothes and smelled like we had dined in a fish & chips joint - no shit.  I've gotta clean and dry clean everything I brought in there.

So, in conclusion, I definitely suggest you give them a try, just insist on a downstairs table.

My review is going to be repetitive of what every other yelper said but just to reiterate...

This mediterranean style bistro has a beautiful ambiance with chandeliers, a small open kitchen, a short bar, and a mezzanine overlooking the first floor.. Diners enjoy delectable meals while pedestrians and cable cars pass by outside.. Can you spell seductive? ;)

The gnocchi (has lots of small corn, peas, diced tomatoes; beware) but is delicious. The gnocchi itself was cooked perfectly and the sauce it sits in (comprised of white truffle oil, yum) was so good you have to continue dipping your bread in it after finishing the dish.

The Maple Leaf Duck Breast is a must try.

The Cappelini Puttanesca is good due to the high caliber of the restaurant, however, I was surprised that the dish was both slightly spicy and very seafood-y. I would probably go with a different dish next time.

Lastly, the CHOCOLATE BREAD PUDDING is to die for. Even my boyfriend who very rarely likes dessert (I don't know how we get along :p) couldn't stop saying "This is so good. This is so good."

Sooo.. Because the restaurant had excellent service, atmosphere, and food, I am giving it 5 stars, although if I could I would probably rate a 4.5 or so.

These folks are victims of Yelp*

I, like so many others read the Yelp reviews and learned how good the pork chops and bread pudding were and went there for that.  The pork chop was delicious but my date expected a more traditional, high quality, bread pudding with some chocolate but got bowled over by the intense chocolate and couldn't eat it.  They did remove it from the bill and were very nice and concerned about it.

Since they seemed so concerned so I brought up the pork chop issue.  The lady I spoke with was genuinely pleased that so many people came for their great pork chops but didn't seem to realize that a lot of the popularity was from the rave reviews on Yelp!   It's an interesting trap to be in.  They certainly don't want to become a "one dish" restaurant but more newbies than not are likely to order the pork chop and bread pudding after reading these Yelp*reviews.  I'll admit, I'll be hard pressed to not order the chop next time but I'm sure it's not the only thing that's good there.  Read all the reviews.

Location was interesting.  Atmosphere was very nice.  Prices matched the venue.

For desert I had a Swenson's licorice ice cream at the other end of the block up the hill.  Fabulously good.  (Warning!  I'm guessing they only have it with the pumpkin at this time of year - Halloween.)

Very good food, done well. I would come back here any day. I can't recall what I ate 4 weeks ago, but it was all excellent.

    Great wine list too.
