You're going to roll up to this place, in it's corner perch in a dilapidated strip mall with a laundromat next door, and say, "What on earth am I doing here?"
But once you start to eat your meal, you'll realize there's much more to Frank's Gourmet Grille than meets the eye. I met my parents up in Connecticut for a night and we went here. They both enjoyed the halibut. I had veal marsala with a deliciously creamy risotto. The marsala was a little salty, but I seem to always think that, anyway. The veal was cooked nicely.
I don't eat fish but I gave my mom's saffron rice a shot. Sorry to say it had too much crunch.
All in all, though, a big surprise and a definite keeper for the next time I'm in the area. One of the rare places in that part of Connecticut that's good and has a variety for the non-fish eater.
The couple next to us was dressed to the nines and looked very out of place. The food may have matched their dress, but not the decor. (By the way, these people went to down. Both had rack of lamb, about 3 or 4 drinks between them, and they each had a delectable looking dessert).
Oh, and a really nice touch. As the place was getting more crowded, the chef came out to talk to us. He checked in that we were happy and returned on his way back through the dining room. Nice guy. Also, hand it to the young lady who kept filling up the water, as well as the hostess who also chipped in. The people seem to enjoy being part of the team there. -

Great duck with dark cherry glaze. Unaware it was even there before last week.

The exterior is humble, a corner store in a small strip mall next to a dance studio and a few doors down from the laundromat. Approaching it for the first time, you think, "Maybe, 'Frank's Neighborly Bar' would be apropos." It's a small space that packs a wonderfully varied and delicious menu. An excellent selection of wines is available; the service is very attentive. And Frank himself scoots around the dining area like a general directing an army. Chatting with customers, directing wait staff, heading off disasters, accepting your complaints and your compliments. Actually, I've never heard any one complain here. The food is fantastic. Reservations recommended. It is no secret that this is one of the best restaurants in the area.

Well to start people i work with were raving about this place and how good it was although it was alittle expensive they said the service and food made it all worth it. Well not so much really. The food i thought was good but i won't rush back. And as for the service well almost non-existent. We felt as though we had been forgotten on several occasions throughout the night. It was good because we all had time to talk and relax but total time was 2.5hrs to have dinner because there was so much time between courses. Maybe if we were in the main dining room it would have been better but not sure, we had a party of 9 set off to the side in a separate room. I will not rush back that's for sure....

Found this place basically by mistake while in the area for a project meeting a couple of years ago. Since it has become one of my favorite places. The shrimp bisque is excellent, the best I ever had. The rest of the menu is good and taking in consideration the prices and always friendly service I would say it borderlines on great. For my lifestyle this place it's kind of in the middle of no where which is the only reason I can't give it the full five stars. However, every time I have time to spare or want to impress someone with time to spare I go to Frank's Gourmet, so far everyone I've taken there has been equally impress as myself with the quality and taste of the food. But as I said location is the only issue. Although it works out great in one sense because I'm always able to get reservations or even just show up, unlike good restaurants in Miami, NYC or DC.
