If you?re looking for authentic Italian food with ambiance to match, you HAVE to try Frankie's.
This family owned eatery is friendly and inviting. All of the dishes are proportioned and enjoyable. Very reasonable prices, great wine list are the norm.
If you go on a Friday or Saturday night, be prepared to wait, but I assure you, it will be worth it.
Frankie's has that family feel when you walk through the doors, and not just because there are families waiting for tables. Seated relatively promptly, there are a variety of Italian edibles for omnivores and vegetarians alike (yes, we really all can get along!).
If you still want good Italian food but need or want to leave out the starchy side, here, you can. They have a rather extensive low-carb menu that has things like dough-less pizza (Just ask them for the low-carb menu) which is a generous portion of flavorful sauce, fresh basil, meats, cheeses, all baked to a scrumptious perfection. And to go along with it, an Italian soda made with sugar-free flavored syrup.
Friendly staff, prompt service, and all are welcome, this is a great place to grab a bit, or have a grown up's birthday party.
Can't decide between pasta and pizza? The solution: Meatball Pizza! My favorite pizza by far and this is the only place outside of the big apple I have found that serves it! Great wine selection and the seasonal salad is a must! (Split a half size of the salad, it is more than enough for two!) Service is generally quite good, if it is a Friday or Saturday get there early otherwise expect a wait! While leaving there the other day, I heard a rumor that they now take reservations!
Back in the diz-zay, a somewhat...err... sturdier (yes, let's use that term) KTown used to dine on slice after slice (and sometimes after slice) with her parents on Frankie's infamous Gourmet Vegetarian pies.
And with good reason. These pizzas are the friggin' shizz... fo' rizz.
Now, the days of my double, double chins are long gone, but 17 years later the memory of this tasty veggie pie remains.
Loaded up with mozzarella and Fontina cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, red onions, artichoke hearts, Calamata olives and fresh basil, I would LOVE it when my dad would either bring them home... or better yet- we'd dine in.
Seriously though. If you find yourself in Redmond and you're not in the mood for Fatburger or 3 minute teriyaki (Thank you, Teriyaki Nasai) Frankie's is a great alternative. Not super cheap, but super tasty...
which is more important, IMO.
The pizza and past was pretty good when I was there with a few friends. I order the fettucini and it was cooked very well with a good cream sauce, but wasn't amazing, but I liked the laid back casual atmosphere of the place.
if you are looking for good Italian restaurant this is not the place!! horrible horrible
Nice staff, quick service, great food and drinks. I like the atmosphere and location too. Wonder if all the wait staff are as good as the lady we had last night. She got a good tip.
I don't know why I always forget about Frankie's...We took our whole family last Saturday night to celebrate our son's first birthday and had a great time.
We were really impressed by the wine menu and it's prices. The food is great, exactly what you'd expect from a local, family owned Italian restaurant. Excellent pizza, not too thick or thin and wonderful pasta dishes. They even had something for my mother in-law who is on a gluten-free diet.
Only down side is they don't take reservations. We were a party of 10 and luckily were sat in less than 20 minutes but the place is small so I think more often than not you're going to wait with a large group.
Oh another plus, they brought us a birthday dessert for my son that more than fed the whole table, YUM!
I still love Frankie's and we've eaten there a million times; the owner's family members who work there all recognize us and two of them know us by name to the point where we don't get asked for a name when we get added to the waiting list. We have cred with the family, and we're loyal.
But tonight I was disappointed with two things.
First, I learned that they don't make their own meatballs for spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs are brought in frozen, and they do contain soy protein, so I can't eat them. What a bummer!
Second, I got their beautiful tomato-basil-Italian sausage cream soup tonight, and it was delicious. Until my mouth swelled because the sausage had soy protein in it.
So... if you have food allergies, you'll have to stoop to asking which items are made completely in-house (being homemade almost always eliminates the soy protein risk).
On the plus side, and keeping that five star rating honest, the four-cheese baked macaroni and cheese with applewood bacon was so good I wanted to lick the plate. And their chicken parm is still homemade and still tastes fantastic.

My husband and I both got pastas and were very disappointed. My sauce tasted like it came out of a can. The food was very generic (as in... I could have made this meal at home with some Prego from the grocery store).
From the reviews, sounds like I should have tried the Pizza instead. I can't speak for the Pizza since we didn't try any. So, I guess we thought it was an Italian Restaurant, but it's really a Pizza joint.
The search for good Italian food in Redmond continues, because I'm certainly not finding it here. I hate wasting food, but I think the uneaten half of my dinner from Frankie's is about 75% more likely to see the inside of my garbage can than it is to see the inside of my stomach.
Not only was the woman who took my take-out order totally confusing, I'm pretty sure I didn't get what I ordered. There's only one pasta item on the menu which includes the phrase "meat sauce", and it's not "garden meat sauce", though that's what the disembodied voice on the phone insisted I wanted. (OK, lady. It's your menu.) I really don't think it's what I wanted. When I have to pick through my meat sauce in an unsuccessful attempt to find anything which resembles meat, you're doing it wrong.
I had high expectations based on the previous reviews, but they were quickly neutralized. My side salad fell flat, the pasta-to-sauce ratio on the entree was unacceptable, and the breadsticks reminded me entirely too much of the ones served in my middle school cafeteria. I tried a bite of my hairier half's chicken Parmesan (which I thought he wasn't finishing because he was full, but upon more detailed investigation I think he wasn't finishing it because it was mind-numbingly awful) and was immediately filled with disappointment. Somebody in the kitchen obviously thinks "Parmesan" is Italian for "in the style of a breaded hockey puck".
There was no redemption to be found. Anywhere. Not even on the bill.
I'll never get those tastebuds back, Frankie's, and it's all your fault.
One star for their house dressing. If they just bottled that stuff and sold it, maybe they'd get my business. As it stands, they're blacklisted... which is a pity, because they're just down the street.
I lived in Redmond for 15 years, and Frankie's has been there as long as I remember -- which is surprisingly pretty rare for restaurants on the Eastside.
My only complaint about the business is the size of the dining room -- it has needed a larger space for years now. On Friday and Saturday nights the line can wind out the door and the wait can exceed an hour. If anything, I would recommend just getting a salad and a pizza to go (their Greek vegetarian is awesome!).
Also, keep an eye open for any seasonal offerings. In the summer they do some awesome salads that will incorporate fresh strawberries and nuts -- very delish.
Frankie's goes on my list as one of the places I miss most about living on the Eastside. There are few Italian joints around that match its quality.
My friend Angela introduced me to this place and my tummy is glad she did because the food is yummy.
I love their Italian wedding soup. It has tiny little pasta rings in it that are melt in your mouth soft. That could be a meal in itself, particularly with the herby bread that they serve.
I've tried a few of the pastas and haven't met one I didn't like so far. I've had slices of the basic pizzas and they're good too. Haven't tried the more adventurous toppings, since they invariably are topped with gorgonzola, which I don't like. The strawberry lemonade is nice too with bottomless refills.
Service is prompt and efficient. Others have complained about parking and space but suppose it depends on what time you go. For lunch and dinner, I"ve never had a problem. Then again I tend to eat dinner late, so am rarely faced with the dinner rush.
Love this place whenever I'm in the hood. Love the pasta! The sauce doesn't taste at all from a jar and I should know living in NY & having relatives in Chicago. It's as close as you can get to authentic Italian cuisine. I've been meaning to try the pizza but just can't get away from ordering the manicotti. I just wish they have the traditional carbonara (and yes, it isn't smothered with sauce) on their menu and I'll be there everyday! The salad, soup, and wine are all tasty as well. Plus, if you go during lunch, it's just as nice...good size portion for the price.
Frankie's has been my FAVORITE restaurant for as long as I can remember! It has a lot of "safe" Italian food that will please the whole family.
I love their four-cheese pizza (it used to be a regular on the menu, but now I have to specially order it), which includes gorgonzola, provalone, mozzarella, and fresh parmesean--it's the best pizza I've ever had--even better than Lombardi's in New York City (supposedly "the best pizza in the universe" according to Zagat). Frankie's crust is so soft and fresh, and you can taste the wine in the marinara sauce.
Their foccacia is to die for! I love the plain foccacia that comes with basil and fresh garlic on top, with olive oil and vinegar for dipping. This is much tastier and a little lower-carb than their breadsticks, which are big on bread and little on toppings/seasonings.
Another guilty favorite is the cheese calazone. The best calazone I've ever had! If you really want to be evil, you can replace the marinara dipping sauce with their fresh alfredo sauce (very creamy, very garlicy) at a small premium. It's to die for.
The downsides of Frankie's is that the restaurant is very small and seems to attract families with kids. Good if you have kids, bad if you are looking for a romantic date. Definitely not recommended for a romantic date on a Friday or Saturday night. It also calls for a very long wait at peak hours. Plus parking is impossible at peak hours--the small parking lot fills up fast. You might need to park across the street. (I'm not complaining though. I'm so glad Frankie's has stayed small despite their huge popularity. I'm willing to wait 45 minutes to give them my business. Thanks for not selling out, Frankie's!)
The staff is friendly and they have very low turnover, so you know they treat their employees well! The restaurant has been owned by Frankie himself, who is known to walk around and ask how everyone's food is, and is operated by Frankie's son.
A great, friendly neighborhood Italian restaurant!
Great family restaurant with good food.
I take these guys with a grain of salt. There isn't really a whole hellova lot in the middle of Redmond proper. That being said, these guys aren't bad.
I like the food, but there are a few things that really drag down the while dining experience. For one, the parking... OH the parking... Secondly, the place is cram packed and tiny with virtually no waiting room.
Its an open air kitchen, or at least partially, which is cool. Service is always awesome with the owners frequently milling about. The wine selection is pretty good, the bread is pretty good and the pasta is downright delicious.
But, the facility itself... It's like these guys outgrew themselves, you know? They need to expand or move or something, cus they are always packed.
Finally, some good pizza! I hail originally from New Jersey, so was spoiled early on with respect to pizza. I'd love to find the same kind of New York style with which I grew up, but beggars can't be choosers, and in Seattle, it would appear that we're definitely beggars when it comes to quality euro-ethnic cuisine, or at least pizza, and at least when compared to the east coast.
Anyway, we heard of this place through a coworker, and since we we found ourselves both starving and near Redmond today, we thought we'd check it out. Apparently, it was the best pizza that this coworker had found thus far, and although a nice guy, he's from San Diego, and pardon me, but what do Californians know about good pizza? (nyuk nyuk) Which is a taunting way to say that I didn't know what to expect. We went really early--a little before 4:00 on a Saturday--and, as you might expect, there was plenty of seating and prompt service. The interior is small, but quaint, I thought. It felt authentic, like a real-deal Italian kitchen that you might find in other regions of the country.
The round-trip time from when I ordered a Mac & Jack's to it appearing on the table may be the shortest I've ever seen anywhere--twice! And for those, like myself, that enjoy a good draft beer, their pours were free of the nasty aftertaste that afflicts some lesser establishments. Mmm, cool, fresh Mac & Jack's. If you enjoy wine, I can corroborate another reviewer's mention of a fairly extensive wine list, or at least extensive for a place of its seemingly modest demeanor.
We ordered bread sticks to start, and they concerned me, because at many pizza parlors, the bread sticks are a very good indication of what you can expect from their pizza's crust. The bread sticks were doughy and really nothing too special.
Our pizzas, however, were another story. We each ordered our own small pizza, being fully mentally prepared to take leftovers home. After all, anyone who doesn't like leftover pizza, hot, cold, or anywhere in between is a commie and should not be trusted. My girlfriend got the classic veggie pizza, which is your standard mushrooms, peppers, olives, and tomatoes fare. I got one of their specialty pizzas that is being offered throughout their "9th Annual Garlic Festival" (and to think I hadn't brought my party clothes!), that I ordered with "five cloves" (think like stars at Thai restaurants). The crust was crisp, but not too crisp. The sauce and cheese had good flavor. We both thought the pizza was delicious.
We had a minor snag in that when they originally brought out our pizzas, mine was covered with sausage, which is definitely not what I thought I ordered. It turned out that the cook made the wrong pie (called by a similar name). Since one of our pies was as expected, crisis was averted because we were able to eat. Throughout our visit, our server was attentive and friendly, and followed through here. She fixed it straight away. The kitchen cooked up a new pie as quickly as possible (which was pretty quick), and brought it straight out from the oven.
Would the experience have been different if it'd been a crowded weekend night? Yes, quite possibly. However, our experience there today was a resoundingly positive one, and even though it's 25 miles from home, we are definitely planning on returning in the future. I've eaten pizza at some of the places around town that have been called "best in town," and have been underwhelmed, to say the least. Frankie's isn't "true New York style," or anything like that, but I don't care. It's just good pizza, and quite simply, that's what I want.
I lived in Redmond for several years and my husband and I ate at Frankie's on a semi-regular basis. The food is consistently good, though there are some things you need to be aware of:
1) Despite what others have said, I don't recommend Frankie's for pizza--if you're dying for a pie, go to what used to be (still is?) Piecora's in the Bridal Trails section of Kirkland or up to Lynnwood to The Rock.
2) This is not a fancy-schmancy Italian place. This is more of a neighborhood restaurant. Don't expect linen tablecloths and napkins. Instead, expect vinyl checkered tables--a chianti bottle with a candle stuck in it would not be out of place here.
3) Parking sucks and if you can't navigate the parking lot, you have no business going here.
4) The restaurant gets pretty packed on the weekends and there is very little space to stand/sit and wait. Consider yourself warned.
Ok, now after having said all that, dinners here are very tasty (I recommend the Chicken Cannelloni Florentine) and they're sizable. Prepare to have leftovers! In the late summer/early fall, Frankie's has a garlic festival, so if you're a garlic lover, look in to that--you'll like it!
This place is great. A little, family owned Italian restaurant.
Full bar? Check.
Large portions? Check.
Friendly staff? Check
Tasty? Check.
Since I moved here 15 years ago, I have been coming here. It has good selection of Italian food, and much of it can rival Italian food. It is fairly cheap and gives you a good amount of food. I have never left feeling I wanted more because I wasn't full (I wanted more because it was good).
The fact that it is family owned means that they care about their customers. Seeing Frankie and his family working there makes it feel that they put their business first. If you ever come to the east side, and are craving Italian food, stop here. You won't be disappointed.
I must have gone to a different place than the other reviewers... my impression of this place is totally different. This is where good food and good service go to die in Redmond. When Il Bacio was still around, there was actually something worthy of talking about in Redmond. If you like that, I promise you will hate this place. HATE.
Yeah so get to it... I went there with my wife and son. It was filled with other people who went there with their toddlers. They had the crappy plastic table clothes (slightly sticky) and warm tap water. Our waitress obviously couldn't care less about paying attention to us.
Bread was actually ok, but neither of us liked the pasta. It was completely bland... like they pureed tomatoes out of a can (not the good organic ones either). My toddler refused to eat anything there too.
I won't be going back.
Update (almost 1 year later):
I'm not married anymore, but this place still sucks ass. I was wrong about not going back... I went with friends and tried pizza this time. It was ok... kinda. I don't dig their sausage. Too bland. Beer was good.
Perhaps I was in a cruddy mood that day, but I was thoroughly displeased the last time I went here. I feel uncomfortable being served by kids in my peer group, and feel even more uncomfortable when their top priority while on the job is gossiping about their friends instead of remembering customer's orders or helping make the place look clean.
The food was good, but our server was half-deaf, I think. I was charged for "dinner price", which was SUPPOSED to include a larger portion and a salad, but I was served the "entree" size instead. No salad, no nuttin'. I wasn't even served a drink. I had to pretty much slap the guy to get him to notice me.
Oh, also -- this place is TEENY TINY. DO NOT bring large groups here during a dinner rush. DO NOT.
I don't remember our servers actually coming up to us to check on us -- or anyone else -- once. We had to flag them down by shouting across the whole store, pretty much. I think I had a stroke when my dad gave our MIA waiter an $11 tip.
The whole experience left me very disgruntled. I'm definitely not coming here again. If I could say one thing to the owner: Please hire people over the age of 18.
Great Italian food by a great family! Try the pizza florentine and the Italian wedding soup. To die for!!! Wonderful wine selection, Frank really knows his stuff!
Yum yum! I'm glad to report that Italian food is alive and well out of the Northeastern USA! Boston's Northend still beats this hands down, but Frankie's warms me up and reminds me of my family's lovingly made pasta dishes. I especially recommend the gorgonzola and walnut pasta, but no capiche why it is only seasonal!!! Bring it back!
Thing is, they don't deliver. So, as much as I like them, they don't solve my local pizza conundrum.
i had pizza once here and i would it is really nice ...
i had bits of veggie as well as chiekn and both were good ..
would like to try their pastas tooo
Great lunch place! I always want to try something new, but can't break myself from the soup and salad - it is sooooo good.
I'm not a soup person at all, but the Italian Wedding soup is fantastic. They put these little garlic croutons in there that are orgasmic! (Ok that may be a little strong, but close!)
Salad is great too - I love places that put mozzarella on their standard house salads. The ranch is really garlicky and that is a plus in my book!
Soooo good. My husband and I love coming here- they have great pizzas, pastas, etc. Breadsticks are super tasty. They have a couple different seasonal pastas that change every couple of months, so it's nice to have that variety.
Only reasons why Frankie's isn't a five-star: Caesar salad is not my favorite, the wait can be a little long, and there aren't a lot of parking spots.
But you still can't go wrong- I'd definitely reccomend it.
LOVIN ME SOME FRANKIES! But...... When Frankie is not around, the service sucks. I do have some words for the young woman that took are drink order... Make eye contact with your customers!! Smile!!! Don't throw yourself around like a cow!! IT LOOKS VERY VERY BADDDDDD!!!
YUUUUUUUUUUUUM! Okay I have never eaten here, but we order pizza at work sometimes. And Frankie's is by far the best. The best pizza around here. It's so so so so so good. I've never tried any of the other menu items, because that would mean skipping on the pizza, and the pizza is TOO FREAKING AWESOME to pass up.
Ah, I remember how excited I was when Frankie's opened some 15 years ago in Redmond. It is pretty good, and if you go often enough, you'll get on first name basis with Frankie himself. I've since moved on to more urban locations, but still drop in here occasionally, for old time's sake. The pizza is still good as always, and yes - Frankie is still there most of the time. Parking can be a little tight, the tables are a little close together, and expect a wait on weekends, or during the lunch time rush. If it's nice out, ask to be seated on the patio!
I've eaten there twice for lunch now, and I really don't understand the good reviews at all.
I had a salad and pizza lunch one day. The salad was OK (though it sat awhile on the counter before finally brought to us) -- basic cheap salad, nothing special, but not bad. The pizza, on the other hand, was terrible. the slice was very large, so I tried cutting it in half on my plate. That was difficult. Worse was trying to break off a bite -- it was so tough, I had a hard time tearing it off with my teeth. The feta cheese on top was hard and dried out, there were pools of greese everywhere... it was simply disgusting.
The breadsticks were very dry and tough. We finally got our waittress' attention and got some marinara sauce for them, but it really didn't salvage them. Yech.
I had mannicotti there on another visit. It was OK, but nothing special at all. Just some pasta in basic red sauce with cheese. Not bad, but not good either.
I see no reason to ever go back. Especially not for the pizza. Maybe if you order your own, fresh pizza, and eat it right away, and if you get someone who knows what they're doing to make it, maybe then it'd be good. But I don't think I'll ever find out.
All of the pizzas are delicious with a homemade appeal- this is where I go to eat real pizza! Also if you go during lunch time you can get a huge slice of pizza (which is really about two slices) for a good price. Pasta is wonderful as well, I enjoy their alfredo sauce and basil pesto. The tiramisu and brownies are simply divine too!
It does have a neighborhood feel, this is not your fancy Italian place. More of one where you can relax with a good glass of wine and comfort food. If you come in on the weekends expect a wait, but well worth it.
Great experience at lunch! Everything tasted really fresh, like what makes Italian food great. I was with my family including two small kids. Everyone enjoyed it throughly. Adults had pasta and the kids had pizza, and I can certify the pizza leftovers were very good. Something with the quality of the cheese makes it awesome. Service was a+. They were out of brownies but made up for it in the form of a mountain of a brownie less sundae. Very homely and neighborhood-restaurant feel.
Small dining room. I had a meatball sandwich. It was big, with garlic butter on the crust, I think I ended up eating it with knife and fork. Very good. And I had a split pea soup first, which had crunchy croutons in it, it was pretty good. The waitress had a shirt advertising garlic on it ("got garlic?" I think). It might be too nice to take a group of unruly kids. Or maybe I just went at a non-kid time.
