Words cannot even begin to explain the love I have for Giacomo and this beautiful salon...
Frange Blue is always clean, bright, and welcoming. There is never a shortage of smiles, magazines, or beverages ready and waiting. Getting my hair done takes well over 4 hours, and I am NEVER bored or restless.
Giacomo is a god amongst men. If anyone has ever considered straightening his or her hair chemically, there is absolutely no one else worth going to. For the past 6+ years, I have been making annual pilgrimages up to San Francisco from San Diego to get my hair chemically straightened. I have unreasonably curly hair, and I always leave Giacomo with healthier, shiner, STRAIGHT hair. Giacomo understands my hair and takes the time to personalize my visit, making sure I have all the necessary products, vitamins, tools, etc. I know this knowledge of hair is not limited to Giacomo and is shared by all of the stylists at Frange Blue.
Giacomo and Frange Blue always make me feel more beautiful, confident, and comfortable with my hair, and this is exactly what a salon is supposed to do. Visiting Frange Blue is beyond vanity; the quality of work lends itself to a customer satisfaction that is more than just the excitement of a great haircut.
World's Greatest Stylist & Salon. Ever.
At this point in my life I am sso ready for new changes. I just had a birthday I got new glasses and I have been ready for a new~do. So of cores I went to my Gurl Letisha Hill. And guess what she was ready for a new changes too. She is now at Frange Blue Salon Suite 449.
Not only that Letisha Hill is a new location, she is still cutting hair hair at her BEST. The new location is bigger and better.

Usually after a haircut, I feel my hair looks decent, but boring. I have never really been EXCITED about my hair after a haircut. Miguel at Frange Blue Salon changed my haircut experience!
First, about the salon: it is in Union Square area and in a very random large office building, so don't be confused when you walk thru a corridor of small offices before you find the salon. The salon is very tidy and cutely decorated. When you arrive you are offered wine, tea or water.
Second, the stylist: Miguel is friendly and welcoming. The first question he asked me when I sat down in his chair was, "what do you like most about your hair?". I thought this was a very interesting question for a stylist to ask, although it makes perfect sense. After I explained I have always worn my hair long but feel like it starts to look very thin and stringy when its too long. Miguel immediately suggested layers and spent the next hour perfecting my new look. Miguel is definitely a perfectionist and doesn't speed up his work or cut his work short to stay on his schedule. This may also translate into him running late for other appointments, but ultimately its worth it once he gets to your appointment, of course.
Finally a tip: check the salon's website, they regularly post coupons for salon services and hair products. Right now Miguel has a deal for $50 off any service for first time customers - DEFINITELY WORTH IT!
Dante is the BEST.
I have been going to Kwandee for almost 3 years and he is by far the best hair stylist I've ever been to. He's so talented at color and my hair cuts are also stylish but always make feel comfortable. I cannot stress how talented he is at hair particularly with color. I am really picky and I trust him wholeheartedly every time! He'll even take the time to really blow it out and I feel amazing every time.
He is really good at listening and getting to know what works for you and what doesn't. So if a year later, I mention I want to do something, he remembers what I like and what I didn't! I like to call him my hair therapist. (He also gives me a lot of great dating advice:-)
I always tell the story about how the 1st time I went to him, I wanted bangs. I kept hesitating and I wasn't comfortable about it. He paused and said "Sweetheart, it's our first date. I don't want to go there with you yet. I want to get to know you better" :-) Sure enough - I really didn't want bangs! :-)
He really cares about his clients. He's fit me in on a moment's notice when I'm hoping to get my hair done before a big event. He isn't interested in charging extra for products or other stuff. I can only afford 4x a year and he works with me on that and doesn't pressure me. He just wants a great relationship with his clients for years to come and he loves making women feel beautiful about themselves no matter what their budget or their style is. I love his talent, his attitude and his friendship.
Very nice, bright, airy salon, with an amazing hairstylist, Kwandee. Don't be afraid to let him color your hair, he gave me a dark, rich color that I absolutely love!!!! A kind, warm, low key hairstylist who does an amazing job, what more could you want for your hair???
Giacomo and Miguel are the best. Giacomo has been doing my hair for years. Miguel recently started doing my color. I don't trust anyone else. I have very long natural curly hair (down to my butt.) Giacomo knows exactly how to take care of it for me. He is the best at trimming and layering my hair so that it looks great naturally. After giving birth to my 2nd child, I experienced significant hair loss. He was the best at putting in extensions that looked natural until my hair grew back. It was so great that I didn't have to cut it off. He was so gentle and experienced at doing the extensions that my hair grew in healthy and quickly. He has great products too. Miguel seems to be a master at matching colors to your skin tone and eyes. Plus, the salon is so beautiful and friendly. Giacomo offers you an assortment of drinks (including wine ;) while you are there. I just love them. Plus, they are big time dog lovers!!! They are worth every single penny!
Dante is fantastic. One of my best friends recommended him and now I _cannot_ see anyone else to do my hair. In fact many of my closest friends and my husband even go to him, so when I visit him for a haircut or color I feel like I'm meeting up with a friend.
Dante is not just a hair stylist, he's a "hairstyle manager." Essentially, I tell him what I'd like to do for the present haircut/style and then we talk about the next hairstyle visit. So, I can plan out my looks with him for the year (something that my Virgo personality really appreciates).
If you're someone that is afraid of how much will be cut off, Dante reassures you about the length before he starts cutting and shows you on his comb exactly how much will be removed. Finally, he's realistic about daily styling after you leave the salon. So, he gives tips about how you can maintain the cut within your lifestyle constraints.
This salon is fabulous! Everyone is really nice and Marlon is a superb stylist. No wonder he was voted best hair stylist in S.F. by Allure magazine. He did a great job bleaching my hair into a really nice and even golden blonde...after a previous salon (Cinta) messed up my color and turned it orange on the top. The color fades a little bit but that's to be expected after washing your hair. What's also really great is that Marlon and Frange Blue salon don't use such harsh chemicals when coloring your hair. In my past experiences sometimes the bleach can really tingle and sometimes feels like it's burning our scalp. Marlon is also really careful not to let the bleach overlap on previously colored hair. My last stylist Christina from Cinta Salon wasn't very attentive to my hair and as a result I had severe hair breakage.
What I also like is that they don't try to push you into buying any of their products. It's a really quiet salon too which is rare in downtown S.F. Just be sure to book your appointments a week or two in advance because these stylists have busy schedules.
I totally recommend Frange Blue Salon and Marlon who is a true artist for all of your hair coloring needs.
A friend of a friend referred me to Frange Blue to see (I think) Dennis...who was not available...so I took an appointment with Marlon. I just moved here from Seattle for one of those "fresh start" situations. I had kind of shoulder-length longish hair with some layers around jaw length.
After talking to Marlon about what I was looking for in a color (even it out, don't lighten, maybe go darker?) and a cut (not too many layers, maybe longer...maybe shorter...) he went to work.
The color came out gorgeous. It is close to my natural color, but with a little pretty color to it.
When he cut my hair, I kept thinking, "hmm, that's a little short...and layered..." and when he finished, I wasn't so sure...it was shorter than I wanted...but I was game to wait it out. Sometimes you get a haircut and it takes a few minutes....and it looked cute...but was I okay with shorter hair?
I went home and called my friend Chris and told him about the experience and he promised to give me an honest opinion. Then I called my boyfriend who said, "Shorter? I thought you were going to grow it out?" My heart dropped. But it was growing on me - it was soft and looked cleaner and it was going to be super easy for the gym.
Later that night, I saw Chris and his eyes lit up and he gave me a hug and said it was "adorable"
Then, finally, I caught up with the BF who was astonished that I had a moment of doubt at all. He also pointed out that it didn't really look much shorter, just cleaner. He's right.
At the end of the day, Marlon did exactly what needed to be done. I love my shorter hair. Marlon is also a really cool guy - I enjoyed talking to him.
update: in hindsight, I was trying too hard to accept what was really an unfortunate hair cut. I'm still trying to grow this out and not look like a soccer mom.
Dante, Dante, Dante....I started going to DANTE more than 10 years ago (my hairdresser, at the time was overbooked, so I took an appointment with this new guy, Dante...been with him ever since, how lucky was I?) I followed him to 4 or was it 5 salons... and was so happy when he opened FRANGE BLUE, 4 years ago.
Besides the fact that he is a COLOR G-d, never cuts my hair too short, always makes me feel special, is never late (maybe once in 11 years, wish I could say the same) and is always cheerful, are just a few of the treats you encounter as a client. Got somewhere to go? He'll do an up-do or a set that looks like you are runway ready not going to the prom.
He stays so current, like you are in a snob salon, but this cute little place is far from an obnoxious hot spot, but NOT lacking talent. I have seen great do's walking out of there from many of the chairs.
Call way ahead if you want an appointment with DANTE, he's been booked by those of us who know a great haircut, and even better color is so hard to consistently find in any salon.
Check out the unique hair care products - he offers Kusco-Murphy, an organic line from Australia. How did I ever live without the leave in conditioner?
Extra star b/c no one even looks sideways if I have to bring my kid, due to a baby sitter cancellation!
After a really horrible haircut, I felt betrayed by the hair cutting industry and did not cut my hair for a long time. Finally, with my bangs 4 inches down over my eyes, I relented when my uncle got me a haircut for my birthday.
Dorothy cut my hair, and she was great. I guess my uncle had told her about my trauma, so she really made sure to listen to me yap about what I wanted for like 15 minutes before she even got started. She even got me a pad of paper and a pen so I could draw what I wanted her to do. Yay!
The colors I wanted in my hair (black on top, blonde underneath) were a little tricky and, rather than faking confidence and doing it all herself and making horrible mistakes, she asked for some help from Dante and another gentleman whose name I can't recall. Nice! Not everyone is the best at everything, and I really like that she knew herself enough to ask for help.
Overall, I'd say I'm 90% happy with my haircut, which is a damn good score if I do say so myself. The ten percent is because it's a little shorter than I wanted on the underneath part in the back. Otherwise fabulous. :)
Best reason to come here? New addition to the very small team of stylists --- Kay Bergen -- fresh from DiPietro Todd Salon. She is hip, friendly, and always listens when you say don't cut too much!
I consider her a friend and would follow her anywhere!
Dante is AMAZING! Everyone I know that moves away from SF comes back at some point to see Dante. My girlfriend lives in San Diego and had a hair color job that went all wrong. She immediately booked a flight and an appt with Dante. Her hair now looks great. He knows what the hell he is doing! It's as simple as that. My hair is super fine and he knows exactly what to do to keep it looking thick and full. I know, without a doubt, he will always make my hair look fabulous.
I signed up with Yelp just so I could tell everyone how great he is.
Thank you Dante - You truly are the BEST!
One word genius!! Kwandee is amazing with color. I get the Japanese straightening done to my hair at another salon and he is very careful and honest about what we can achieve with my color. He also does an awesome blowout. Give him a call- you won't regret it :) 415.602.6204
In a word, "Dante rocks!" Wait, that's 2 words. Still...Dante rocks!
Dante has been cutting and coloring my hair for two years now. This last color job has been AWESOME!!! Plus, he's super cool and nice.
Mitra Massih is a divine goddess! She is talented and honest. She will tell you if you might regret your own request. I would pay just to be in her presence because she is so smart and fun. She has seen me, my mother, my brother, my best friends, she knows everything about everyone I have ever met. And she is a color genius. I have gone to her off and on for 100 years and every place she has worked, I watch the other stylists ask her for advice on color. She is particuarly awesome with shorter cuts but does well by anyone. Smart and hilarious hipster. I feel hipper just knowing her.
While I cannot speak for the other hairstylists in the salon, I can say that Shaida is wonderful! Earlier this year, she gave me a whole new layered look that I absolutely love. Since my hair is curly and sometimes difficult to style, I needed something hassle-free. Soo...today I went in to have Shaida straighten my hair using the Japanese Straightening Treatment. It's not only straight now, but it feels so soft and healthy...I am completely amazed. My hair turned out even more beautiful than I imagined it would!
