What is going on with Franconello's? It used to be my favorite restaurant to go to, but lately every time I go there I get this teenage waitress, who can't give a suggestion for food, can't explain the specials any know nothing about the wines( probably because she's not 21 yet). What happened to the seasoned waitress that used to wait on me? If i wanted cute, skinny and unknowledged i would go to hooters for wings!!
The staff & decor always impress me much more than the food. I was in a few weeks ago & I believe our server's name was Susan. Susan went above & beyond for us & for that we left her a very generous tip. I will keep coming back, but it will probably not be for the food.
I was excited at the possibility of a quality south side italian place. Well, this place seems popular with other locals, but I have several beefs with it.
First of all, why the hell is there valet parking? The place sits on a huge parking lot, but you can't park there. You have to let the teenager at the door park it for a fee. Pissed me off...not a good start. Luckily there's endless street parking. At least the kid was really on top of holding the door for us...nice touch, I guess.
The first time, we had a server (teenage girl...a common them in Beverly) who knew absolutely nothing about the food or how to serve a meal. The steak we had was in the Mid 30-$40 range and was of poor quality and absolutely covered in a parmesan 'crust', which really amounted to nothing more than a soggy, 1/2 inch thick layer of parmesan and bread crumbs...no 'crust' to be found. The tiramisu is served in a glass, and treated as though this is something really unique and special...if only it were any good. Did I mention the service was terrible and basically clueless?
The second time I went, we had a more veteran server and the food was slightly better...but still a major disappointment for the price.
How this place is full, while phenomenal places like Cafe 103 are nearly empty, perplexes me. If I'm going to spend this kind of money, I'll go to Cafe 103 EVERY TIME...and savor every bite!
Best place in the area, but that doesn't say a whole lot. It will be loud, the food will be delicious and plentiful, the service will be solid.
Somewhat unfamiliar with the area, and looking for something other than Leona's and Giordano's, a group of us ended up here last night. My chicken marsala was decent, though not as good as Oggi's and I enjoyed the bite of filet mignon that I nabbed from someone else's plate. A very large gin and tonic with Bombay was very reasonably priced. The food prices are a little high, but the portions are more than enough for one meal and the service was very attentive. Also there were all these little dishes in a refrigerated case behind us that we thought were ice cream but they were really huge balls of butter. Awesome!
I like this place. The portions are huge. The Italian sausage is made on site. The sausage appetizer is one of my favorite dishes. I usually get the Manicotti Al Forno. It's huge. After eating my meal, I have another meal to take home. I've also tried the Chicken Marsala - very good - and they give you 2 chicken breasts. You definately get bang for your buck. The atmosphere is ok. You can definately tell that this place has been around for awhile. Service is good, but a bit pushy. The servers like to push the more expensive entrees like the veal dishes.
This was our meeting point pre-polish film festival movie. This place was relaxed and perfect for unwinding after hurling down the dan ryan in rush hour traffic. The minestrone here really knocked my socks off. And I don't even like minestrone that much. This stuff was really hearty and flavorful. As for the entrees I feel like their chicken marsala gave my favorite Oggi a run for it's poultry. I did spend the entire meal nabbing gooey globs of baked gnocchi off my companion's plate. The portions were huge and now our fridge is full of leftovers. I can hear the leftovers calling my name. Something tells me they won't be in the fridge for very long...
This place looks like something out of Wise Guys. Big hair and gaudy decor. The food was just as tragic. I had the chicken vesuvio. How hard can that be. The chicken was ok, but the potato's sucked rocks. And had just as much taste. The place stank like garlic, but it must have been to keep the vampires out. Cuz it wasn't on my plate. My friend had the special linguini, That actually looked pretty good. I was in the hood for a wake. I would not come back here unless Steve Dahl burnt it down for the anniversary of Disco Demolition. And then I would go eat at KODA two blocks down.
A sub-par restaurant for anywhere but Bevery. The food was bland and as usual for the south side service was poor at best. I though the sauce was flat and the sausage was so-so. The portion size was huge and the prices are low. Finally, they have a roof deck that looks cool but I have never seen it open
