Francis Lewis Park
1 review for Francis Lewis Park
one of the things i enjoy about living in new york city is that every once in awhile i get to find a new 'favorite' place. the title officially belongs to francis lewis park, the most amazing waterfront park tucked underneath the whitestone bridge.
my favorite person in all of new york mentioned this park to me as somewhere to sit and enjoy picturesque views of the river, the bridge, and the skyline. i wanted to see for myself so i came to see the scenic spread yesterday.
there is a lot to see and do here. francis lewis park has a bocce court, as well as a medium sized playground, a spray shower, four handball courts, two basketball courts. there are winding paths in between shady trees for walking, and open spaced lawns to frolic. there are ample benches spread throughout the park to sit and relax, but the best benches are lined along the walkway on the perimeter of the park. i like these the most because i could sit and look at passing boats on the water for hours. that's been a favorite past time of mine since i was a kid growing up in corona del mar, california.
you wanna know the best part? this park has a beach. granted, it's small, and the east river is the body of water that laps on to the sandy shores, but it's a beach nonetheless. i think next time i come here i'll bring my dog and a frisbee.
this park is really incredible. it took forever to get here, but like most things worth discovering, i didn't mind the journey at all.
