My favorite frozen yogurt place of all time. I used to drive from San Francisco just for some yogurt from this place.. and now that I live in LA.. I am tempted to drive up!
Thier chocolate yogurt has this dark chocolate taste with a yogurt kick that I have not been able to find anywhere!!! Not too sweet, not too sour - just divine. If you are in downtown palo alto - this is a must try!
Had a cup of Blue Bottle single drip coffee this morning. Price was fine, good service, coffee tastes good (not as good as when made at Blue Bottle)....
I just wish I would have known that when they say "single drip" they were talking about the to-go cup. Every single time I took a sip of my coffee nectar it dripped onto the front of my shirt or my lap. Now I have to go through the day with a nasty looking stain on my frontside. Not pretty!
Hey Fraiche.... get some new cups!
Dennis O., you were right!
What happened to Fraiche? T.T Natural gone bad!
Natural: Didn't taste very natural. =\ I used to love this flavor. Did the quality downgrade? I think so... 2 stars.
Soy: Surprisingly, it tasted better than the Natural. 4 stars.
After UYE Chicken D'Lite Friday evening, I was having some froyo craving. So I thought it'd be a nice to grab some Fraiche in PA! I'm glad I always sample the froyo before buying cause the consistency varies. I was super disappointed in the Natural froyo flavor. blehhh. I ended up getting a Soy junior size and I usually never ever get Soy.
What's happened to Fraiche? Did the quality go down or was it just a bad day?? :( It was a strange, strange day in froyo history! j/k :P

4.5 stars
Wow the yogurt here is super duper good!! I like it the best out of all the fro-yo places nearby. This yogurt is the best because it is nice and tart-flavored. Its texture is just perfectly creamy and smooth. Most importantly, it is organic and extremely healthy. The only downside is the price. A cup of yogurt for $5? Very pricey, and hard for me to afford on my tight budget. But when it's time to go out w/ friends it's fun it just chat and hang out. I came here on a Friday night w/ two friends & had a blast. Unfortunately their service isn't the best and they should refill their paper cups so everyone can grab water. this. But I definitely liked this place better than Red Mango and L'Amour (I have not had the chance to try Pinkberry yet). Anyway I will be back here in the future!!!
blue bottle coffee, hand made rice candies and the best chocolate frozen yogurt... enough said!
soy froyo? yummy! i came here yesterday and tried all the flavors... original, soy, valhrona chocolate, and poma. soy and poma are my faves!
the awesome thing about this place is the shaved chocolate and honey you can get on top of your froyo! and it's all organic and hand-mixed! how awesome is that?
it's like a mix between asian and american froyo... :) it's fun!
Today I decided to skip lunch and head straight for dessert. After reading all the good reviews about Fraiche, I decided to try it out for myself. The reviews weren't wrong. To start, I rate Fraiche 4 stars due to the high humidity in the store. As soon as the yogurt is dispensed, I saw other peoples' starting to melt as soon as it hit the counter and many of them didn't have toppings.
My Take:
I like it. Natural, creamy, fresh fruit, fluffy mochi, good portion, not tart, and has soy. I'm one of those lactose intolerant Asians.
As my first time, I chose the Regular sized Special consisting of Natural Soy yogurt & 2 Toppings (mochi & mango) for $4.95
I guess their regular price is $3.95 + $0.95 per topping so I saved $.90
I ate and ate until I started to feel a skin sliver inside the corner of my mouth created by the spoon. Boy do these biodegradable spoons have sharp edges! (Thus 1 star less otherwise it would've been 4 stars) Even Yogurtland in Cupertino has rounded edges *take note*
All in all, Fraiche is a refreshing alternative to try!
I am pretty crazy for frozen yogurt, and there is no place as great as Fraiche where I'm from.
Their natural yogurt had a gentler tart taste than other self-serve places I go to. Creamy instead of frosty, and tastes amazing with the clover honey drizzled on top. Am I drooling just writing about it? Yes.
They have soft, home made mochi that is nothing like the pre-packaged balls other places use, and home made granola as well. Palo Alto is a bit far, but it's definitely worth the trip.
I'm in no way a fro-yo snob, and I can only compare it to Berry Line in Boston. I found the taste and texture to be superior to that of Berry Line. I love that the yogurt was sweet, but with the perfect amount of tartness. I love the variety of unique toppings--local honey, shaved chocolate, and granola. I decided to try the junior size pomegranate fro yo with strawberries and kiwis. Bad mistake-this yogurt was so delicious, I think I mush of inhaled it in two seconds. By the time I was done, I said "That's it?" Will definitely order a size up next time around.
I've tried to fight it but I dream about the chocolate yogurt here.
I am perfectly satisfied wth a junior cup of chocolate yogurt with no toppings and it only sets me back $2.95. A much better deal than at Culture where I feel like I need to get some toppings to jazz up the yogurt (and end up spending $6). Plus, who needs all the extra calories from the toppings?
I still hate the lines and difficult parking but I guess you gotta work to get the good stuff!

This is my standard issue dessert post-Buca across the street or anytime I'm nearby. I concoct quasi-pharmaceutical-grade probiotics at home and can tell you that this is TRULY a divine treat. The real thing, not some mix in a tub. Tasty ambiance as well. Please hold the toppings for me, awesome as is.
OK, I take that back. After my first fraiche experience, I went back to Pinkberry and Red Mango, and they just tasted like total crap! Now I'm in love with fraiche's original yogurt and totally addicted to the drizzle of honey I get on top. Yum, yum, and totally worth the 4 mile bike ride.

Amazingly delicious + healthy! Fraiche offers organic frozen and traditional yogurts with an excellent assortment of toppings. They also sell Blue Bottle Coffees, Mighty-Leaf Teas, items baked with yogurt (including some knock-your-socks-off chocolate chip cookies) and house-made granola. Here's more detail:
For toppings, you can choose from a colorful array of fresh and flavorful goodies (ex. shaved dark chocolate, berries, clover honey, maple syrup, etc.). Local and seasonal selections can also be found (ex. local ollala berry purees or figs in season).
For yogurt, you can choose from regular, pomagranate, and chocolate soy frozen yogurts OR non-fat, 2%, and whole "fresh yogurts" (similar texture to Greek-style yogurt in groceries). I recall the calorie count ranging from 25-40 calories per ounce.
For good value, I recommend the "San Francisco Chronicle Special". This is like a health nut's dream sundae. It combines hot stone ground oatmeal with a yogurt of your choice and 5 toppings. The regular size is ~$5 and you can add coffee or tea for $1 more. (My personal favorite combo is oatmeal + frozen natural yogurt + ollala berry + blueberry + banana + granola + shaved chocolate + a few drops of clover honey. This is a meal in and of itself.)
Also, their yogurt is made on site in small batches, evidenced by the Clover milk containers in the hallway. The store is not a chain. Although, I secretly wouldn't mind if they expanded -- it might spare my weekly commute from the city (complete with cooler & ice) to re-stock yogurt and granola supplies..
There was something different about this yogurt. The s.o. and I were discussing what made it better and came to the conclusion that:
What makes Fraiche good is that the yogurt is actually frozen and not half melted when served!
The yogurt stayed firm and cold until there wasn't enough mass to keep the yogurt cold, which was basically near the bottom.
Since it was our first time, we did some tasting before buying a cup. The pomegranate wasn't that good, but the chocolate was richly creamy. The olallieberry jam was good! chocolate shavings are freshly shaved. brownie bits yummy and honey sweet. I have to admit, the honey wasn't that great of an addition, but the s.o. LOVED the olallieberry sauce. its like a raspberry but not as tart.
We'll be coming back soon!
Two stars for their natural flavor and an additional star for their pomegranate flavor. Original tasted too milky and was lacking the tangy tartness that makes it refreshing. Pomegranate was more tart, but it was alright at most. Not as many topping varieties, but their mochi was unique. Large cubes, chewy, and soft.
P.S. They serve handmade baked goods, but not a wide variety similar to their toppings.
Wow. It's been about a year since I've been here and the taste has changed from what I remember. When I first came here, it was still pretty new. I remember the yogurt being more sour than anything and I really wasn't a fan.
Fast forward to tonight when I visited again. I bought a small, plain, organic one with no toppings ($2.95). The yogurt was creamier, definitely not sour and subtly tart. It's denser than Red Mango's and not as sweet.
For sure I'd come again, but I'd have to say that the people who work there need to work on their customer service. The 3 girls are too busy gabbing behind the counter to greet you and/or take your order. And after they've dispensed the yogurt and put it on the counter, they just plop it down and get back to where they left off in their story.
The place isn't kept up as well. The tables are topped with Fraiche toppings and are sticky. There's more room to sit inside than out (2 tables outside), but you'd have to watch where you put your arms and hands. All in all, 3.5 stars...rounding up since there's no half star I can give.

The best froyo in Palo Alto hands down. The natural/original yogurt has a more creamy taste than tart but still super delicious. I can't vouch for other flavors, but you can't go wrong with natural+ fresh strawberries.
The location on Stanford campus is just as good as the one by University.
It's not as cost-efficient as self-serve places, but it's well worth it =)
In the same tier as Red Mango or Pinkberry. VERY CREAMY, thick froyo in the standard flavors = original, chocolate, SOY?. They shave chocolate flakes for you on the spot & the fruit toppings are very fresh. Standard modern, chic interior you see in all the dessert places these days. Beware, the service can be curt, particularly if you want to try more than one flavor on a hot day...
++ | Soy Frozen Yogurt |
Never seen this flavor before! Pretty cool; really does taste like soy milk, or rice dream.
Junior cup = $2.95
I'm not a fan of Fraiche so I guess I'm in the minority. I may be wrong, but I don't think that their organic natural flavor is supposed to be tart. And perhaps, that's why I didn't like it - I came in with the expectation of tart froyo.
Anyhow, I ordered a junior size (6oz) of their organic natural flavor.
+Dispensed amount seemed heavier than 6oz
+Yogurt didn't melt quickly
+Starch spoons ... although this may be pretty standard across yogurt shops now days
I did get a taste of the pomegranate flavor. At least on the day I went, it tasted nearly identical to the natural flavor so I made a remark to the girl at the counter. She, in turn, told us that the pomegranate concentrate that they use is expensive; hence, the very faint flavor profile. While I respect her honesty, that certainly isn't something that I'd want to be sharing with customers.
Fraiche is seriously fresh. (don't mean to sound like a cheeseball), but it is. I've tried a lot of yogurt places in the area, and this is by far my favorite.
I had the original yogurt with granola, mochi and (complimentary!) wildflower honey. The consistency of the yogurt was smooth and the organic tartness was delicious. The MOCHI was my favorite part. It's all about the mochi. The mochi they have is homemade which gives it a really nice chewy texture that is unlike any other store's. And the free drizzled honey on top was just perfect.
The yogurt is on the pricey side, but definitely worth it especially compared to all the other chain stores.
Highly recommended.
Can I get a regular soy with strawberries and brownies (or granola) with wildflower honey, please?
After taste testing many frozen yogurt venues around the bay, Fraiche is by far the top of my list. The line may be long, but service is quick and end result will rest happily in your stomach.
This was the very best I've ever had!!!!
So fresh and so light, just simply delicious!!!
Finally tried Fraiche after hearing about it from friends for ages. I'm not crazy for frozen yogurt, but I do enjoy a tasty treat now and again, so I was happy to finally pay a visit.
Got there around 10pm on a Friday night and the place wasn't particularly busy. Studied the menu for a bit (as I said, I'm not really versed on the whole fro-yo thing) and ordered a regular plain yogurt with dried figs and walnuts on top and a Blue Bottle (yay!) coffee. The yogurt had a nice mild flavour. I'd been to Culture on California and their yogurt is far tangier and yogurt-y than Fraiche's. I wouldn't say one style is better than the other, just different. Fraiche is more dessert-y tasting than Culture. Anyway, they seemed to have a nice bunch of toppings and I'd like to go back and try some others.
The staff working was super-friendly and helpful and were quick to offer samples and were just all around nice.
Palo Alto is slightly out of my way and I sort of hate going to University and trying to park, etc., so I wouldn't say this place is exciting enough for me to come up too often (but then again I'd rather just have ice cream than frozen yogurt), but I can see it being a nice treat once and a while.
This is a great place to stop by and get some organic yogurt. I will admit besides parking being hard to find the yogurt is pricy for the amount plus there is very little seating. The taste is good and the service is good as well however they don't seem to have a large variety as far as yogurt flavors go (perhaps I haven't looked hard enough).
I have to start by that little saying, "you should never judge a book by it's cover".
The other day after a nice meal at Gorden Biersch with friends (next door), my BF and I were considering a cup of coffee. This spot was right next door, and it looked like it was going to be just another one of those damn "tart" yogurt joints. I cannot stand the new "tart" trend! but I digress...
We decided to pop in anyway and give it a chance.
WOW! They had soy froyo!! First froyo joint with a non dairy option!! (I have recently given up dairy, and thought all hope was lost for my love of the fro-YO!)
The soy-YO was pretty good! All there toppings are super fresh, and super yummy! They even have a giant chocolate bar they shave fresh bits of chocolate from for you right there, and it's vegan!!
I have found a new favorite spot for treats on a hit day...Finally, a place with frozen desserts, for the non dairy crowd!
Fraiche is the best thing ever! OMG I love this place so much, I went for the first time last Tuesday and I can't stop thinking about it, imagining myself devouring a huge cup of it. The first time I came here, I ordered a junior nonfat natural with raspberry puree. It was amazing, so light and yet still creamy with a hint of tartness that went so well with the gooey, syrupy raspberry puree. I finished it way too fast and vowed to order a bigger one next time.
Little did I know that the next time would be 3 days later! I was having dinner w/ Sarah @ NOLA, and suddenly I remembered Fraiche yogurt, and I couldn't stop thinking about it, I wanted it so bad!! I was seriously craving it. This time I went one size up (regular) and got two toppings: homemade mochi (O.M.G. soooo good!!) and raspberry puree again. Mochi and raspberry puree go perfectly together, especially on top of a deliciously tart and light frozen yogurt. I can't even describe the deliciousness in detail, it's a melange of so many different flavors and new textures, you just have to taste it. I totally wolfed it, and afterwards I could not stop saying "mmmmm mmm", it was out of control. Regular size STILL was not big enough! I wanted more afterwards. I'll have to go another size up next time...
Fraiche was by far the yummiest frozen yogurt I've had in a while.
I ordered a size regular, Natural Tart with toasted almonds and mochi. The mochi was superb. It was somewhat of a gumi flavored coconut chewy taste (the mochi) which went lovely with the frozen yogurt.
Per my friend's recommendation, this is the best yogurt place she has ever tried. I tried it and was not disappointed. I had the frozen yogurt natural flavor with mango and strawberry topping. It was very fresh and the texture was very light. I loved it! They make their yogurt in house, not shipped in from somewhere else. It does not have the strong tartiness compared to other places. This place also knows how to make their lattes and cappucinos!!! They definitely know how to whip the steamed milk. They also use blue bottle coffee. I am loving it!!! =D
Hard to deny that Fraiche is the best yogurt currently available.
Got a regular w/ Pomegranate and Original side by side topped w/ mochi and blackberries. Their mochi is house-made and super chewy as opposed to the harder mochi's at other places. Blackberries are fresh. Their yogurt itself was creamy and smooth. It didn't melt into a watery mess (like some places) and it didn't have an icy texture (like other places). Just a smooth well balanced yogurt.
Slightly pricier (mine came just under five bucks), but definitely worth it if you're looking for quality. You can't really walk into an Outback expecting Prime cuts... It's definitely worth the extra buck or two over other yogurt places.
I'm a big fan of this tart fro-yo trend. Not such a big fan of toppings, but oh.my. god. did fraiche change that.
I believe they call it "mediteranean" or something- dried figs+almonds+clover honey drizzled over a serving of perfectly tart/sweet ratio fro-yo.
No matter how much I've inhaled in nearby eateries; I ALWAYS have room for this treat.
This frozen yogurt shop is not located amongst the plentiful restaurants on University Avenue. It is actually tucked in a mini street with other restaurants on Emerson. I didn't know palo alto had more to offer in the other direction! It is a very cute shop but a little too small when there is a huge line outside the door with barely any AC on inside!!! There are few tables in a row and a little booth tucked in at the corner of the shop. The decor is trendy and modern along the walls of Fraiche. As you go deep inside, the cash registers are located on your right while waiting for your froyo will be on your left. When i asked the girl up front for a sample, she gave me this dirty look! Because of that I didn't feel really welcomed even amongst the crowd that they had to deal with. I shared a small with my friend.. original with mangos. Creamy texture and a bit of tart to it. I definitely liked it. The mangos especially were sweet and ripped! I am sure soy lovers would enjoy this place..( even though I am not a soy fan ).
How is it organic? I mean im sure its healthier.. but I don't see a MAJOR difference in the non-organic and organic froyos.. am i still a noob or what?? I guess it doesn't make a huge difference for me!
Great yogurt + fantastic blue bottle coffee = great afternoon!
Pros: very creamy yogurt (real shaved chocolate topping)
Cons: none
I've got one USEFUL thing to add here: Don't forget the free squirt of honey.
This is my first tart yogurt establishment review. Now I've experienced my fair share of tart yogurt, from my first Pinkberry experience back when Lindsey Lohan was still toting around quarts from one of the two SoCal locations (2006?!) the present, where you can go to Pinkberry at Santana (that store design is seriously beautiful), Red Mango in Cupertino, or any number of independent yogurt stores.
I'm pretty confident in my conclusion that Fraiche is the best tart frozen yogurt I've had so far. Re: the actual yogurt I'm conflicted, because I'm not sure how much I'm swayed by the signage indicating the homemade, organic, probiotic quality of the stuff. But I can say that the homemade mochi is the best mochi I've had on top of frozen yogurt. Mochi is often tough, and too chewy. Too Q, if you may. This mochi was soft, pillowy, delightful.
Other plus: BlueBottle coffee! Yes, I'm a bandwagon jumper. It's not quite as good as when you wait for it for 10 minutes at the Ferry Building Farmer's Market, but it's pretty good. Also not quite as good as Flying Goat coffee at Kara's (okay, I just had to throw in the name Flying Goat...hilarious).
Not a plus: Fraiche is right across the street from my gym. Too tempting.
Have to say that when I want froyo in Palo Alto, I go to Fraiche. It's got the best toppings, the creamiest yogurt, and (generally) the friendliest service. I know this is a rating for the one downtown, but I also love that there is one on campus now as well, as it makes a cute date spot for someone who has never been to Stanford. Love it.
There's nothing I could say about the yogurt, plain or chocolate that hasn't already been said. It's the best.
What I do want to comment on although a bit reluctantly is that their cookies are THE BEST COOKIES I've had in my entire life and I've had a lot of cookies in my lifetime. Now don't all go running over there to snap up my cookies. ..I'll cut a beatch. I just hope that management keeps an ample supply.
It's still bland.
It's still not particularly smooth.
It's out of the way.
There's no WiFi.
The coffee is undrinkable
But.
Red Mango is no longer edible (people; clean your machines!).
The toppings are pretty good.
Seating is good.
The yogurt does not contain sugar or assorted chemical crud.
Not fantastic in and of itself, but there really isn't a better option
in Palo Alto

i prefer here to red mango or pinkberry. why? simple. besides the fact they are organic and all that, they have a chocolate version which i love and used to get all the time. and it just tastes better!
they also offer a hand shaved chocolate as a topping option which is different from other places, and their mixed berry sauce is also yummy.
they tend to run out of the hand made mochi if you get there too late (because they make them in small batches)
it's so hard to find parking in this area. i usually jump out of the car, pick up yogurt while my hubbie circles around the block and then jump back in =)
The actual yogurt was the bomb. The toppings were two measly scoops that sucked. And at the price of almost 5 bucks...not worth it. Definitely better than regular froyo...and better than that tart natural stuff....but I wouldn't run back.
This is, by far, the best frozen yogurt I've ever had. I dream about. I make up new topping combinations in my spare time ... right now I'm into natural and chocolate side-by-side, topped with granola, coconut and apricot puree ... If I could, I would probably eat a cup of it everyday. The yogurt is so refreshing, the toppings are extremely fresh and it is just plain delicious!
If you're into the old-fashioned, chemical-laden, ten different flavors, pile on the Oreos and M&Ms type--Fraiche isn't for you.
