This place has been on my to-do list for years now and I finally got to go here!

Why did it take me so long? It's kind of intimidating from the outside, in my opinion. You enter from the back and it seems so dark inside. When we went, there were some stragglers outside drinking and smoking, which makes even more nerve-wracking to walk by them as they stare you down. But once inside, it was a wonderful experience.

It IS dark like so many people have told me and it's kinda cramped by the door. We had the worst seat possible right by the exit. But on my way to the restroom, I noticed they have real seats with lighting in a fancier dining room setting. So I'd ask for that, atleast that's if you want to see your date, in which case you might not.

I tried the Clam Sandwich, it was okay but the Clam Chowder that came with it was the highlight of my day. And Friday's is their Fish & Chips special which was really good and you could tell it was real grouper, unlike so many others places now. And the prices weren't as bad as I expected.

Oh yeah- what's up with the Liquor Window outside? Atleast it's not a drive-thru!!

I've been to Fox's on 3 or 4 different occasions, but am just now getting around to writing a review.

As others have mentioned, it's really dark in here. In fact, if it weren't for the light coming from the LCD TV and the lighted sign behind the bar, this place would basically be in total darkness aside from the candles glowing away on the tables. The other thing that you'll notice is the cheap prices. The last few times I was here late on Saturday nights, they had 2 for 1 specials on some beers and liquors which makes their already cheap prices even more incredible.

This interior of this place isn't new or modern looking and probably hasn't been renovated or updated in decades, which is actually a huge part of the charm. The wooden panelling next to some of the booths has names, hearts and other symbols carved into it, the tiles in the restrooms (at least in the men's room) look like they've been there for as long as the building's been standing, and on my last visit here, they had a bucket in the middle of the restroom floor, as there was a leak in the A/C system above the ceiling. No one cared, it's all cool at Fox's.

You'll find people from all walks of life patronizing this place. There are people of all ages and demographics here, and it's easy to strike up a conversation with someone at the bar if you're running solo here, which is something else you don't experience at just every bar in the Miami area.

Outside in the back of the place is the infamous walk-up serving window, and the last few times I've been to Fox's there have actually been as many patrons standing out back as there have been inside the bar.

There's a lot to love about this unique little place. It's definitely a Miami institution that should be cherished, as there aren't enough of these kinds of establishments in this city.

Fox's is a dive bar indeed. It is definitely a cool place. The lights are quite dim inside - not night-vision quality but close. The ambiance is cool. Everybody is doing their own thing. People are actually friendly. Service is good even when it is busy. The place gets full but not packed. Their specialty is the cocktail. Bartenders expertly make a martini with Bombay Sapphire Gin and give it to you in a sidecar, which is definitely a nice touch. The night we went, the manager was working everything: greeting, bar, etc. It's always nice to see a manager taking a hands-on approach. His name is Jake, I believe. He's the guy who made my martini - a very good job. The price was good too. I think it came out to $8 or so.

Again, this is a place for cocktails. There are no beer taps. Beer in bottles and prices for beer are on the steep side.

Oh yeah - even though it gets its fair share of people, the volume is tolerable. And ... free jukebox! I'm talking about the old-school jukeboxes where you have to flip the cards to see the tracks.

Here you could be sitting next to your cheating boyfriend and not see him. That's right; this retro lounge established in 1946 is so dark that you have to hold the flickering table candle to your menu in order to decide on your meal. And it looks the longstanding part too. The main lounge features red lighting and vinyl lipstick red booths. Another room to the side offers more light but the decor is still very 50's.
The menu is comfort food. I usually have the Reuben and fries or basket of chicken fingers but my friends the carnivores love the tender steaks with a dipping sauce called thumb bits. It's a cool place to retreat back from Miami's in scene that's if you don't always have to be in a hip and fashionable spot.

People were NOT kidding when they said that you could bring your lover to this place and no one would know. There are no windows!!!

The bathroom is like someone's house. There's a soap dispenser like you would use at your house and, um, towels. There's a pull down towel system. Does not seem too sanitary...

We sat in a booth in the back and ordered some beers. Our waitress kept trying to push beers on us. Someone might have used an inappropriate joke with the waitress and she didn't take it well. Needless to say, she was none too happy with us afterward.

By the end, they were closing the place down for the night and turned off the music. Nice...

All in all, eh...it was ok.

Est 1946, that alone gives this place MAJOR cred in my book.

As you walk up you'll notice the liquor window, just step right up and pick your poison, then remember that thousands of Miami's residents have thanked the forces that be for Florida's liquor laws. Now step inside and give your eyes a minute to adjust.

The booths are few, this place is small. The red light at the bar and the soundtrack of oldies make this place a kitschy throwback. A standout of time passed or rather timing standing still. The staff wear ties and know how to make classic cocktails, strong ones at that.

This is a bar in the simplest, most important incarnation. Nothing fancy, nothing impressive well, except that it's still standing. And for that I'm grateful.

By far the best dive bar in Miami!!

When walking into this venue one will notice the red vinyl half moon booths, dark wook paneling, and 1940's music. This bar is a time warp to the 1940's. This is the kind of place where one imagines where green WWll vets hung out to listen to cool jazz while downing a few cocktails.

The drinks are stiff and cheap. The service is good. There is one gay waiter who is loud, obnoxious, and funny as hec. He claims to be a former stock broker who stumbled upon this job 18 years ago.

The Juke box is amazing. Chalked full of old favs from yester year.

The best thing about Fox's lounge by far is the crowd. Expect to see old, crabby guests who drink too much yelling their opinions about how great things used to be while also sharing the space with UM students. Somehow this seems to work.

Thumbs up! Please dont tell too many people because then this place will be a commercial dive bar like Tobacco Road and regulars of Fox;s Lounge dont want that.

Fox's... do I really have to write anything else? Those who know, know; and these how don't, well...

OK, Fox's Sherron Inn must be the original dark Lounge in South Miami, or probably all of Miami. Outside of being so dark on the inside that you need a few minutes to adjust when you walk in, the place has a L shaped bar, some booth seating and more overflow tables in the back. In essence it has not changed much and really still has all charm as it did when I first set foot in it.
Friendly staff with the right amount of attitude. A nice blend of locals. Excellent happy hour (2 for 1) twice a day... you know that you have been drawn into the dark hole when you actually take advantage of both... in the same night.

Favorite food must be the Thumb Bits; a serving of five small filets on crisp baguette and with their own special house sauce. Other good eats are the Ruben Sandwich and the Turkey Club.

If you prefer a little more daylight in your establishment, go for lunch and try the lobster.

A (South)Miami stable. Always good to be back.

PS: Can someone please solve the mystery if that darn plane is coming or leaving?!? (My bet is on leaving)

Fox's, the downmarket Minetta Tavern of Miami.

Great place to drink martini's with your fried pork chops, or your salad, or your second martini.

A classic. The only bar left in Miami.

Don't enter from the front door, everyone will think that you are either a bum or your car has broken down on Dixie Highway.

Just remember to drink that martini BEFORE you eat the food.

Gotta love Fox's Lounge...aka...the place where everyone says if they would have an affair they would take their "other." Although I don't know how many people actually go here for their little secret rendezvous, the darkness inside Fox's at whatever time of day does make it so that you can sit in a booth and not see who is in the table two feet away from you. WHO knows, it may even be your current bf/gf having their own affair there too! LOL

The drinks here are good and priced well. I love that the martinis come in a lil carafe and that you can pour it in your glass as you see fit. Definitely helps with the sloshing out of the glass issue that I usually have with martinis. The vibe is cool/funky. And the grilled cheeses are FANTASTIC! I am a grilled cheese fanatic so trust me on this one ;) Not sure about the other food as that is all I have tried there.

If you are in the mood for a drink, are in the South Miami area, and don't feel like being seen by 10289 people, this is definitely the place to go!

Oh, and if you are there late night, be careful when you leave. Fox's has the only 24 hour liquor store in the area and you can find yourself facing some QUITE interesting characters on your way out as they all gather around the liquor store's gated takeout window to pick their poisons of choice!

To be fair, I'm not exactly a dive bar sort of girl. But I do like my strong drinks. And so when we arrived at Fox's, I was very prepared to drink in grand dive bar style.

Gimme a Manhattan.

And so it arrived in a little decanter in its own tub of ice. How adorable! http://static.px.yelp....

The martini glass held a pirate sword with no less than 5 cherries speared onto it. Wow, I don't know how much it was as I didn't pay but it was really great presentation.

Fox's is also a restaurant but we opted to have our key lime slices at the bar. It was definitely a great slice and quite comparable to the slice I had the day before at Joe's Stone Crab (granted at Fox's, it was tarter and a much smaller slice).

I love going to new bars and seeing what they have. I spotted Flor de Cana and knew I wanted something with it. Unfortunately, the bartender didn't know what else to do with it other than with Coke. Uh, okay, I'll have it on the rocks then.

Parking is in the back. Clientele was a bit older. Be careful of wayward waiters who bump into you if you sit too far back from the bar. We had a bit of trouble locating our bartender to pay up but overall, the atmosphere was quite relaxed.

Great cozy place to have some good comfort food like their steak tid bits or their fried zuchinni sticks with ailioli mayo. Also they have the BEST French onion soup... Although it is very dark and mysterious and place is usually known for its incognito rendevous'... so make sure you are not taken on a date there.

After my eyes adjusted to the pitch black bar (there were some red lights happening in honor of V-day,  but overall we just grasped each other and stumbled around), we were ushered to the sunny, sweet little back room.
The air conditioning was on "frigid" (stop it, Miami!) but our  fab waitress with the cuchi-cuchi accent turned it down after a while.

Fox's doesn't have any pretensions, so it more than lived up to my expectations.  I had a pitch-perfect reuben (russian dressing on the side, nice touch!), crinkle fries, and a key lime pie wedge actually made with real key limes (and NOT, we were assured, from the Key Lime Pie Factory next door).
Prices were fair, service was great, and we were intrigued by the bar, where I just know the pours will be generous and the conversations....interesting.  It's that kind of place.  Oh, and I love the thick ceramic plates with the 1950s stylized fox design on the rim.  It's little touches like those that make a seedy bar a home.

I have been going to Fox's for about 10 years, and I have always thought it was one of the coolest places in Miami. I love the fact that nothing ever changes, there is no panini on the menu, and everything about it is authentic. I have never minded the darkness inside, I have no problem reading the menu, and have extremely poor vision!

I recommend the liver and onions, which has bacon on it. It's filling and comfort food in a non-kitschy way. The Tuesday night Prime Rib Special is such a great deal, and I am usually so full by the time it comes that I have to take it home. The salad with creamy garlic dressing is delicious, and the navy bean soup and split pea soups are great too.

Sure, if you go there to order a sandwich, you aren't going to be blown away, because it literally is just a sandwich. Unless it is the french dip. That's why you should order the thumb bits, which are little meaty chunks in some sort of gravy-ish thing. Honestly, it's hard to describe what you are eating because it's hard to see, and the menu isn't too descriptive. Just know that it's good. I have had every red meat entree and they are all great.

The 11 pm happy hour is great, too, because not everyone can make it to happy hour by 7. This has always made Fox's a great place to go before you go "out" out.

I highly recommend Fox's to anyone that misses their Mom's cooking, and doesn't need any cheesy decor or flashy people around to enjoy themselves.

I'm a big fan :)... like Sebastian said "those who know, know"... you cant really go wrong with a place that everyone seems to confuse with a strip joint, but once they walk in and they realize it isn't, they end up staying anyway to have a couple of drinks. I think what draws me to it so much is that it's one of the few places in Miami that still has an original feel...if you ever wander to the rooms in the back, they seriously look exactly like anyones grandmas' Florida room. I love the fact that they're making the outside a sit-down area these days, and you cant go wrong with the liquor window. Also if you are in the mood to get intoxicated with some very interesting individuals, say no more! just plant yourself at the bar, you've come to the right place! Check out 2-4-1 Tuesday nights for some hipster action, the underage drinkers might be a bit of a turnoff, but it's a good time regardless.

This place is outstanding in so many ways.  It's one of my favorite places in the world to be.  Just go and see for yourself.

It's a great place for bringing a group of friends and or a private date to just have one of those nights of lots of drinking and making out in the back of the bar.  It's a perfect place to bring some chick that you want to get drunk and make out with.  I couldn't think of a more perfect place.

They also have great bar food too.

It's like stepping into a movie.  Very dark, sexy, distant, mysterious and the dirty red light is always on.  From the stories, this place used to be a brothel house back in the day, and you can still feel it.  Full bar, great cobb salad too!  The back room makes you feel like you're in a little quaint german house.  I recommend this place if you aren't scared of the dark.  Also has liquor store window outside where you can conveniently buy your liquor after hours.

Can someone say dank, dark pit? Because that is exactly how I would describe this place. I went in to grab a beer during the South Miami arts festival, and I was immediately engulfed by the darkness of this torturous chamber. Needless to say that I went somewhere else on that beautiful day. I have also been here at night, and its not any better. The inside decor is just drab and tacky, and the seating is minimal.

The most popular nights are Tuesdays when they offer happy hour specials. All the hipsters from all corners of the city come out to drink the night away. This is all fine and dandy, but good luck trying to get a drink amidst the army of swoopy haired kids and tight jeans. In fact, it gets so packed that you can either stand inside and feel like a sardine in a can, or stand outside -- behind the rope! I;m not sure about everyone else, but I would rather sit down at a table / bar and be served within the hour. Don't even get me started on the food.

I don't recommend this dive to anyone. In fact, find any excuse to stay away. If you're friends are there and they call you, just try to coerce them into meeting you at another bar close by. Trust me, they're all better than this joint, tenfold.

I used to be afraid of this place.
But no more. Oh, no more.

This was one of the last places I went to before I left Miami, and a bar I can only imagine I went to fifty or sixty times when I lived there.

I knocked one star off because a friend of mine didn't tip one of the waiters there (he didn't deserve it) after a long night of drinking and the waiter called Borders (where she works) the next day to demand his tip!

Allison, though, learns your favorite drinks and brings them to you with a smile on her face and she'll make conversation if that's what you're looking for.

I love this place. I loved dropping by the walk up window and buying bottles of liquor and I loved smoking out front, drink in hand. I loved those little quarter burgers so, so much.

Before my first trip to Fox's a friend described it to me as "dank."
He was right...and dank has never felt this good.

Fox's is the place to go when you just want to hang out and have a few drinks without obnoxious music and seizure-inducing lights. The crowd is always cool and the food is pretty good, too.

Fox's is undoubtedly, equivocally IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD...A THROWBACK!!.

It might as well be 30 years ago in a Flatbush ave lounge.   If there was more smoke and perhaps some semblance of a Jerry Vale song on the jukebox you could almost imagine Demeo and his boys chopping off arms in the back....while my father downs the last line of knappogue castles,  between the laughing and the half-baked rendition of "days and wine and roses" he softens up the bartender for a few more days on his tab in exchange for sex jokes.    It could be 1973 or 1958 take your pick.   Or the day the music died.

This notion keeps the yuppies out

Any step over the craggedy threshold hones one in on a world devoid of any references to "value meals" "starbonics" or kanye west.   The cracks of light from the door's opening almost make you prone to wondering, cliched a bit?  But it will have to do.   And how reassuring it is to know you can hear jukebox songs that  under normal circumstances entail amazon mines without even having to spare a quarter or a slug.

The tue/thurs prime rib dinner lived up to all the indellible hype as expected.    The dolphin fingers left little to be desired.....my mouth still waters for my old northern compass point....Mike Gordon's in its heyday.  But hey, that's not what I go to Fox's for.

Went there for dinner for the first time in a long time on Saturday night.  The food is as good as ever and the bar is as dark as ever.  Stick with one of the meat dishes - the prime rib was great.  Service could be a little faster though, but the waiter was very attentive.  The bar is great place to get your drink on and hide in the dark.  And, what the hell pick up a bottle  from the window to take home on your way out!

A bootleg photo from Flickr and it's accompanying one-liner says lots. If you haven't been to Fox's Sherron Inn, you won't get it. "Who knew there was enough light to take a picture in Fox's?" We visited on a bright sunny day in the early afternoon. Walking in from a sunny day instantly turns one to Ray Charles. Really.

After immediately bumping into my lunchmate, I quickly realized why. It was like walking into one of those Halloween haunted houses. You can't see a damn thing so you're a little hesitant to proceed. After a couple critical pupil dilating seconds, things began to come into focus. But not by much.

I know, the first thought that comes to mind when you walk into a dimly lit joint is "what are they hiding?" Not so at Fox's. I mean, they may be hiding something but I'm not sure what it could be.

If you're afraid of the dark, don't fret. You see, we walked right into the lounge. When you do the same, just step forward a few paces, give her a little right rudder and you'll find the two more well lit rooms at Fox's.

To make this brief, Cosmic Eats recommends Fox's Sherron Inn. Keep an open mind. Decor is not SoBe slick. But the food was quite good.

Best Dive Bar in Miami!

This place has been around forever.  Has a walk-up liquor store window and has the best bar food ever (yes, it REALLY does!)!!!  Shit, my dad went there when HE went to UM...  WOW, ages!

Super great ambiance and atmosphere inside.  Very dark...  Great opium den feel.  Some people are afraid of it, or think its really dirty and dingy.  I actually prefer that vibe sometimes.  You can totally escape reality.  A place where no one knows your name and you can be whoever you want to be.  Unpretentious, no make-up required!

I think it has to be one of the oldest bars that still is in business in Miami.  Great place to just grab a drink and get out of your typical Miami scene.  You can get away from it all here!

Oh and by the way, I actually do like the bar food here.  Don't be afraid to eat here!

The drink prices are good, the help is very nice and the music was good. Nowhere to dance except for outside, but either way, it is a good place to be.

This place roxx!  I haven't been there in months, but I need to go back.  Old school lounge/restaurant with a good mix of young students and older "profesional" bar flies.

They have a full carnivorous menu as well.  They say the prime rib is the way to go.  I'll never know.  I just go there for the booze : )

The view of Fox's from US-1 has peaked my curiosity since my early childhood when our family moved to South Miami. I celebrated my 21st birthday with lobster and beers in this dark little hole, have been on a healthy share of dates and gotten terribly sloshed on Shuffle Tuesdays, against my better judgment. There's one waiter in particular that's been there forever. The dude has a way about him. Authentic, attentive, funny as hell. You feel like you're at a friend's house. Order the fried zucchini sticks, you'll be licking that garlic dipping sauce out of the bowl. Despite the obvious hygenic concerns that those hokey old rolling towel machines would raise to the germaphobic, my appreciation for the olde-timey gadgets of yesteryear outweigh my disgust. I've learned that American Apparel pencil skirts are very absorbent. You won't find a 50 page long beer selection, just the standard domestics and imports, as well as Newcastle and Blue Moon, usually 2 for 1 on Tuesday nights. There's no leatherbound drink menu with embarrassing, cutesy drink names. You want something? Chances are the ingredients for whatever you think of are lined up on the mirrored wall. Order up one of their killer oatmeal cookie shots and the ever-encouraging/enabling bartenders cheer, hoot and holler for you as you toss your head further back into oblivion. I'm proud to say Fox's is one of my neighborhood dives.

this is one of my favorite bars back home.  before i moved away, they were having issues with whether or not people were allowed to stand and smoke outside... for a while they had us out on US-1... then they closed the entire lot out back to make the smoking/chilling area bigger... not sure what the scenario is now, but some of my absolute greatest memories were made at fox's.  i've spent many, many a drunk evening here.  my friend who also moved away from miami suggested we get "bro tats" of the little fox logo.  and i'm in.

sure, on a crowded tuesday or saturday [2-4-1s], it might take you quite some time to get a drink, but it's a small place, so you just gotta deal.  it never mattered much to me, as on most fox's nights, i was friend or acquaintance of about 80% of the fox's population and a good conversation was never out of grasp.

i miss the fox's days.....  *sigh*

Best bar in Miami.  Hands down.

The thing is the original dive in these parts. I think it's as old as US-1 itslef.   My friend Art's grandfather told us he used to go when he was our age.  Dig that!

I've met a fair share of people there who're into the "import/export" business, if you catch my drift, and I've carved my name into several different parts of the bar.  The place can't possibly get any darker, everything is made out of leather or wood (and it's all had a fair amount of booze spilled on it).

Tuesdays and Thrusdays are Prime Rib days (you have to call ahead if you want Prime Rib) and it is AMAZING and reasonably priced.  Tuesdays and Satrudays is 2 for 1 night after 11.  In other words, you can spend all of Tuesday evening well into Wednesday morning there and be THE happiest camper this side of the panhandle.

Last but not least: WALK UP LIQUOR WINDOW.  Yeah.  Walk up liquor window.

Thing is, I've never called it Fox's Sherron Inn.  We usually call it Fox's Lounge.  Whether it's acutally and "Inn" or not, I've never been sober enough to find out.

In any case, if you want REAL MIAMI, this is one of the spots you gotta hit.

One of the best dives in the world. And it's on US1, go figure. This place bleeds atmosphere. You expect to see the ghost of Frank Sinatra sitting in the booth next to you. The french dip is excellent. Surprisingly, though it is so so close to UM, I've never really run into annoying college kids here, at least not too many anyway, even when I was one.

And it will always have a  place in my heart for being the only place to buy beer (liquor store window, awesome) after the 9pm curfew in the post Hurricane Wilma days (yabba dabba doo.)

Fox's is amazing.

It's kind of grody at times and if you're looking to save your waist-line this isn't the place to go. However, Fox's is THE quintessential dive-bar. When you walk in you can't see your hand in front of your eyes until the bar lights hit you. Their food is generously slathered in butter, generously fried, generously meaty, and their bar would have dear trouble being more extensive. Their bottled-beer selection comes in around twenty kinds and they'll make you any drink with skill. Winner of best martini in miami god knows how many times over for a GOOD REASON.

This place has been around forever.  We used to buy beer at the walk up window (yes, you read that correctly) when I was in high school in the 70's and it still does a brisk business.  The bar is dark, crowded and cheap.  The food?  It's surprisingly good and very reasonably priced.  Have the fresh fish.  It rivals any "high-end" seafood restaurant in Miami at a fraction of the price.  If you're lucky enough to get there when they're offering 2-for-1 drinks you've got it made.  Generous pours with a "sidecar".  Definitely "old school".  I love it, my 21 year-old daughter loved it, and my 80 year-old mother is a regular in the Victorian Room.  Hunt this place out.  It's a real find!

Fox's lounge (opened in 1946) is the second oldest establishment in Miami (after Tobacco Road) and definitely is not as bad as a couple of people have said it is.  The lounge has one of the swankiest environments in South Miami.  The smell triggers memories of the oldest Coral Gables houses.  Granted, the seating is limited; but if you do get to sit down, you enjoy a great atmosphere, great service, and good drinks at a decent price.  I personally haven't eaten here but everyone I've spoken to has told me the food is good.  The lighting is great.  With these kinds of lounges, you want a dark and cozy atmosphere and that's exactly what you get.  During the holidays, they dress the place up a bit.  It's a cool place to grab a beer and watch a football game.  Since they close early, which is a negative, a good alternative would be to go to Sunset Tavern nearby if it's after 2 AM.  Otherwise, this is a calm, cool, and relaxing place to have a drink. The bartenders and servers are friendly and courteous and don't make you feel bad about sitting down in the booths and just ordering drinks.

you want a dive, you got a dive.  and none of that faux crap.  this is the real deal.

took my sister's bachelorette party here, and we were treated like the belles of the ball.  you'd have thought they had never seen 7 hot girls from LA (and a chick from seattle) - and really they probably hadn't.

The food was great - at least my fried chicken was.  melt in your mouth tasty.  and the owner is allegedly greek, and by the salad i would back that.

and when the mean mini-van taxi driver drove off (and stranding us) saying there were too many of us, the WONDERFUL maitre-d (though i really don't think he would qualify as such - manager, maybe) hunted down new taxis for us.

all in all a wonderful experience!!!

(and they categorize this as a pizza place - i am not sure why as I don't recall pizza on the menu - it's a steak joint)
