I almost forgot what good thin crust pizza tasted like.

When one has been weaned on Chicago pizza, whether thin, pan, or stuffed, nothing else will satisfy.  I grew up just a few blocks south of Fox's.  We could walk there...and also to Palermo's and the now closed carry-out joint, Romeo's.  Vito & Nick's was a short ride away.  When I lived on the North Side, Gulliver's and Candlelite were my neighborhood haunts.

This embarrassment of pizza riches really strikes home now that I live in a city whose pizza options are totally forgettable.

So, we found ourselves back in Chicago this past weekend and met a friend at Fox's.  It's all the same as I remember, from the bottle-blonde big-haired hostess to the comfy dining room to the pizza.   Crispy crust, well-proportioned ingredients, and pieces cut into squares.

Part nostalgia, but mostly good pizza (and other food as well) has made Fox's a "must stop" when we're going to be in or near Oak Lawn.  I wish they'd open a "Fox's St. Petersburg Pub".  The tons of ex-Chicagoans and those who snowbird down here would probably provide enough buzz and business to make this a smasihng success.

I love super thin crust cheesy, saucy, and greasy pizza and if you do too then this is the place to go!

Can be crowded on weekends but they have separate rooms for bigger parties.

However, there can be a wait. The place is casual and they have many drink options.

Even though I have not eaten here in years, a review popped up on this site tonight.  I will admit that I do like this style of pizza and will travel to other pizza joints for similar pizza.  But I have had two bad experiences here.  The first was a bad pizza that gave me a real bad case of food poisoning.  The second was a pizza that they totaly made wrong, they added mushrooms which I'm very allergic to.  When I complained they told to bring it back and they would replace it.  No money off, no I'm sorry for your  inconvienence, and nothing the drive bacl to the restaurant.

I am a huge fan of Fox's, even though I know its not really the greatest at anything other than being itself. But don't we all just want to be loved for what we actually are?

Fox's is a very comfortable place to hang out and focus on the people you're with, not the food. Its good for that because the setting is dark and intimate, the seating is comfortable like your couch, and the service is efficient and friendly but not effusive, so they keep you fed and watered without really being all that interested in you. It feels a bit like you're at a banquet party. Overall the food is definitely better than average, but its not really worth the trip just for the food. Head here with a big group of friends when you want to sit around and talk for a couple of hours. The pizza is really good but the beer list sucks.

Best memory of this place:  Coming here with my boyfriend on a Friday in Lent, ordering an extra large thin crust cheese pizza, and devouring it between the two of us in 7 minutes flat.  That one instance set the bar so much higher for any other thin crust cheese pizza I've had since.

It's the default place to go after funerals in my family as well.  For cheap buffet style dining, it's as decent as you can really get for the price.

Went here after my great grandmas' funeral. I usually don't YELP under such depressing circumstances, but I am doing it anyway.

First off, they didn't have enough room for the whole party in the banquet room. Second, we got the Memorial Special. I ate lunch before because all the offerings didn't look that good. I will say one thing, the soup they had looked/smelled good. Salad and bread, standard, of course.

They brought out fried chicken, roast beef au jus, potatoes swimming in butter, corn lathered in butter. I wish I would have been able to order something separate, but I will probably never go back again.

I talked to my friend who lives in the area and he said the two pizza places to try are Vito and Nick's and Phil's Pizza. Billy Boys' and Pepes' were also recommended. I never knew Oak Lawn was so big. SOUTH SIDE!!

The rating is low because the food didn't look great, smelled nice, and the waiter and waitress took like 15 minutes to get my dad a beer, and HOLY COW HE NEEDS HIS BEER ASAP! Plus, the whole not enough room thing and at a funeral? WTF MATE?

The grandparents nixed our idea of Top Notch -- they are creatures of habit and so forth -- so we ate dinner at Fox's at 4:15 on a Sunday. Hey, who am I to complain?

This was a different and better experience than getting take-out from the Orland Park Fox's. The restaurant is fairly large, and pretty nice, with roll-y chairs for the tables, which is unusual. But, as other reviewers have noted, this is a big-time hangout for the seniors in the area.

    So the run-down:
-Strawberry lemonade -- really just strawberry syrup from the bar + minute maid lemonade. Bit disappointing.
-Irish nachos -- tons of cheese, good guacamole, the waffle fries are pretty tasty on their own even. Needed pico de gallo. (I love pico de gallo!)
-Caesar salad - The dressing was good but NOT the traditional Caesar, more like a Caesar-Italian blend, not as creamy. Came with anemic tomatoes and crunchy homemade croutons.
-My perch - a touch overcooked, but not too bad. Still tasty. Didn't realize the skin would still be on, and the skin wasn't crispy. Hmm. Turn the heat up on the pan and cook it just a hair less.
-Baked potato - solid, nothing special.

Husband reported his burger to be tasty and brought half of it home, which is rare. Grandma loved her filet, Grandpa enjoyed his shrimp. We passed on dessert, naturally, although they do have tiny-sized ones that look perfect if you don't want to share or have juuuust a sliver of room.

And thus concluded another late-afternoon meal with the grandparents :)

The food was good, although  I don't remember what it was..The inside is a little special (old fashioned). Somebody was singing some goofy music..Its an ok neighborhood spot..

I rarely find myself in the south side of Chicago. And even rarer to find myself in a spot like this.

I went as part of a large group on a weekend evening. Probably was a mistake. First, the parking lot was jam packed. Second, it seems this place is THE spot for all the senior citizens in the area to eat and hang out with their families. That seemed to make the wait for a table that can seat my group long. We got a good laugh from the hostess that instantly reminded me of Flo from the old TV show Alice. She had some serious big hair going on. Wow.

Once we got in, I had a chance to check out the decor. I agree with another reviewer, that the place had the "old fashioned" vibe going full force. And there were, indeed, families everywhere eating.

The service was great. And they worked with our requests with a smile. And the food was good. The appetizer combo was yummy. The potato skins were OK, but aren't worth it for the price. Then the pizza came. And I was surprised again. I totally did not expect them to serve a good pizza, but they came through. Their pizza was great. Really. Yummy.

If I ever find myself craving pizza on the south side, I'll come back here. Hopefully not on a weekend.

I do not understand all the fuss about Fox's pizza...I just don't understand.  After a good luncheon at Buca de Beppo in orland, my mother  (who was in from Florida) and I met my cousins at Fox's in Oak lawn.  My mother insisted that she had to have Fox's pizza.

We were a party of 17 and ordered salads for some and several enormous pizzas.  I heard my cousin mention green peppers, sausage and pepperoni.  I could not taste anything but grease.  When they brought us our pizza, I wanted to grab a napkin to pat off all the grease.  Man, unbelievable!  Oh, by the way, the salad was a typical dinner salad and was good.

The worst part of this experience was that we were seated in an area that apparently was a walk thru for all the other rooms - cfnstant traffic going back and forth - screaming kids, etc.  And to make it even worse, everyone had stinkin' white sox apparel on!  Next time my mom comes in, and insissts on fox's. I will insist that we meet at a cousin's house and order delivery...my cousins know better than to wear black and white around me!

I've been playing music here for 4 years now and that will NOT influence my review here.

The food is really, really good. Over the past four years, they have improved their menu immensely. Adding plenty of new dishes, and even improving some of the existing ones, while leaving many of them alone. One thing that helps my appetite review here, is their kitchen is really clean. I'm a stickler for clean kitchens ... call it my ' White Glove ' approach. Their crew routinely cleans the kitchen through out the night. Being a cool musician, I have access to waltz around the place, so I notice these things  :-)

When you speak of pizza ... you speak of Fox's. Leave the weighed down, over eating thick crust stuff for some other joint ... Fox's has the BEST thin crust pizza in all of Chicago.

The decor in the restaurant has been updated for a cool, young vibe. Plenty of seating, bar & booth seating w/ nightly entertainment.

You can also order out, but it's nice to go in and sit to enjoy. Located just minutes from Midway Airport on South Cicero Avenue.

You also get that south side wit & attitude w/ the staff too, they're great.

I grew up eating pizza from Fox's Orland Park. I was visiting family in the Oak Lawn area and decided that I wanted to take a walk down memory lane and indulge in a Fox's pie. We ordered two pizzas - pepperoni and sausage - as well as ravioli, garlic bread and garlic cheese bread. Obviously we had enough food to feed the whole family and everyone left the meal feeling stuffed. I also left the meal feeling underwhelmed.

The pizza just wasn't as good as I remembered. Maybe the OP location cooks up a better pizza or the pizza has changed over the years. Whatever the reason, the pizza just didn't do it for me. Coming to visit from Atlanta I have pretty high expectations for any pizza I consume in the Chicago area. The Fox's pie was greasier and soggier than I recall and it was just average overall. I had the same feelings about the garlic bread - it just wasn't as good as I remembered. The ravioli on the other hand was great. I think next time I'm in town and we go to Fox's I will be ordering something other than pizza.

When visiting our grandfather on the Southwest side and nobody feels like Top Notch, we get ourselves to Fox's.

The main dining room is large and kind of like an uber-generic Bennigan's.  What it lacks in design, however, Fox's makes up for in menu variety.  I'm partial to the turkey club with waffle fries.

The service can be a bit hit-or-miss, and by "hit" I mainly mean "friendly," and by "miss" I mainly mean "cold."  They're almost always efficient.  Whether that's a pleasant efficiency or a ruthless one varies.

All in all, Fox's is a solid spot for lunch, just based on menu options alone.  It's not splashy, but it's spacious and the food is above average.  For dinner, go early.  We ended up there later in the evening once and the live music/schtick made conversation next to impossible.  It also made some members of our party nauseous.  (Sorry, Dan.)

Come on, take it for what it is: An old-school, South Side eatery that you stop into every time you pick someone up- or get picked up- at Midway. Nobody said it was a gourmet spot. It's organically retro and I for one respect that in this day and age of Chili's, Applebee's and whatever-the-hell Blackeyed Pea is supposed to be! Anyway, the drinks are strong, the wait staff runs the gammut from no-nonsense to pleasant and the food is decent. If you're trying to stay healthful, then consider the half-size portions, like the broccoli pasta. I'll admit that the wine and beer lists suck, but again, take it for what it is! A trip down memory lane for people young and old who appreciate joints. (No, not THAT kind of joint...) Truth be told, I've never had the pizza but that's because I'm originally from Flossmoor and am loyal to Lorenzetti's. Oh and whatever you do, do not miss the blonde hostess at night. Ya gotta see it to believe it! God love her...

My BF and I have boycotted this place. Every Saturday night we would order out from them, even though they're pricey. The last time we did, we tried ordering online to get the 10% discount, only the website doesn't work. When we called the order in and mentioned this discount they gave us a really hard time about it since it's online only - well then fix your freakin website! After 20 min of going back and forth they were going to give it to us, then "all of the sudden" they said they no longer deliver past Kedzie. We're ONE BLOCK past Kedzie. They change their policy, don't notify customers (but they sure still send mailings to us PAST Kedzie) and when we want the discount we deserve after all the business we gave them, their rules change? Screw this place. There are plenty of other burger/pizza places in this area to bother ordering from them.

This place has a decent pizza and I am always getting coupons to come back and get more pizza so of course I go back.  The place has goo prices already so I am getting a real good deal. My favorite is the Meatzza pizza which has sausage, pepperoni, Italian beef, and ham on it which really tasty.  They also have pretty good steaks and burgers here too.  The service here is good for the the most part.  Overall it is not going to be an earth moving dining experience but you will get consistency here.  They do have private party rooms here too in case you have a group.

A comfy hybrid between a family restaurant and a pub kind of place. Very comfy, very casual. Pizza is a super thin crust, crispy on the edges but starting to sog a bit in the middle. The pepperoni is quite spicy, and they use fresh green peppers and mushrooms. My brother's burger was just all right.
Speaking to the beer list: well, they've got the miller and the bud, and the Irish standards: Guinness, harp, smithwicks. They've also got some tasty Jameson-heavy martini drinks.
We stayed for a bit of live music, it was a guy and his guitar, and he was quite willing to take requests and generally talented if not a bit corny.
Oh!  The other neat thing about this spot - if you go on your birthday, they will give you your age percent off of your meal.  So If you're 15, they give you 15% off, and if you're 50, yay!  You get half off.  Neato.
In a nutshell - if you're in the area, check out the joint. But don't drive for miles.

I heard great things about this place, so my wife and I ordered a pizza for delivery. Whoa that was expensive! But hey, it was a special occasion and we had heard great things. It arrived in a greasy paper bag. That was different, but I thought it was no big deal. Then I took a bite and it tasted like oversalted, burnt cardboard. My wife and I ate three or four of the small square pieces and ended up throwing the rest away. Maybe it is because we are not from here (California and Michigan), but we did not enjoy our pizza and will not be returning for more. Out-of-towners, Beware!  This is not the pizza you are used to. Wait unitl someone else orders it, then try a piece. Maybe it has to grow on you, but we wasted alot of money.

My daughter recieved a certificate for Fox's. They have a pretty good parking area. There is also another catering/take out place right next to the resturant which we actually missed..since it was hiddin in..The resturant was pretty dark inside. We didn't feel welcomed as we walked thru the doors..we felt like we were entering someones house or something. The food was very regular and nothing worth going to Fox's for a visit..

Firstly this place is way too expensive for what you get.  A tiny medium pizza with garlic as a topping that left my girlfriend and I hungry after eating it came out to $16 total.  Secondly the one topping we did order was sparsely placed on the pizza so much so that you couldn't even taste it.  Thirdly and this is minor they don't have breadsticks.  What kind of lame pizza place doesn't have breadsticks?  Guess that's why we were the only ones in there.
