Coffee and Bloodies -- and friends on their way -- make waiting for a table at this joint absolutely worth it. That, and the food. In particular the Benedict Arnold. Oh, jesus and baby jesus.  Show up after 9 a.m. on the weekends and you'll wait 1/2 hour or more but just do it. You won't be sorry.

Fox and Goose is that warm comfy, wooden Irish pub atmosphere that i love. And, with the choice of Canadion or Slab 'O bacon on your Benedict, you won't know whether to say "eh?" or "blimey!"

BTW, salmon and eggs is no longer on the menu but they'll make it for you - just ask.

Whoever said the Brits lack culinary taste clearly  never enjoyed a juicy banger at Fox and Goose Public House in Sacramento.

Although an entire continent away from London, this public house will whisk you away to a land where drinking a warm Scottish Ale with your bangers, eggs and crumpets is not only acceptable, in my opinion, it's required. God Save The Queen!

Seriously, breakfast at Fox & Goose is pretty much a religious experience -- not to mention a great way to cure a hangover.

The knock on Fox & Goose is that outside of  the fish and chips, lunch and dinner isn't anything to brag about. Also, the service can be ... how should I say ... snobbish at times.

But, to be honest, after finishing two pints of Belhaven Scottish Ale before 11 a.m., so-so service is something anyone can deal with.

My 100th review!!!

The BF and I decided to go here for breakfast at 11am on Saturday. We waited less than five minutes to be sat at our table. We both wanted the Benedict Arnold (their version of an eggs benedict) except he ordered his with Canadian bacon and I had mine with the slab bacon and my breakfast potatoes were deluxe.

Instead of the traditional hollandaise sauce it was Welsh Rarebit which is a mixture of three sharp cheeses. It's delicious, seriously, I put it all over my potatoes too. I highly recommend ordering your breakfast potatoes deluxe for only $2.50 extra they add cheese, sour cream, green chiles, and tomatoes. YUM!

I didn't catch our server's name but she was very nice and didn't mind at all when my BF wanted his eggs to be poached more. We also split an olallaberry (sp?) scone which came out toasted with butter... it was honestly a perfect weekend breakfast.

I love the Fox and Goose, I've been coming here for years.  We decided to go out to breakfast, a rareity these days and decided on Fox and Goose.  I used to always get the vegetarian omelet, which doesn't come with cheese, weird, I know.  I broke the mold and went with the mexican omelet.  Damn! It was REALLY good, a bit much cheese for my taste but was still great.  I don't generally eat large meals and this is A LOT of food.  We both had to bring 1/2 our meal home.  We had to have the lolliberry scone with devonshire cream (a must at F&G).  The atmosphere is chill, the staff is friendly and the food/drinks are very good.    The wait can be really bad on the weekend, but we only waited about 20 minutes.  It's vegetarian friendly with a variety of different pub grills made with tofu.  A staple breakfast place downtown.

The decor is like someone vomited stereotypes of Great Britain all over the place, but whatever -- it's both tacky and cute. I liked it.

We had a two minute wait when we came here at 11:30 am on Saturday, so that was cool. (By the way, wtf is up with downtown Sac on the weekend? It was like a ghost town, or the End of Days or something. Are all the people locked up with their AC in their 3000 sq ft houses in the burbs or what? My friend who lives downtown remarked that someone could shoot one of those 28-Days-Later/apocalypse movies with no trouble..But I digress.)

The scones ARE delicious, like 90% of the reviews here say...and more so when you slather them with that thick Devonshire cream. It's f-ing wonderful.

I also had an omelette with bangers, onions and cheddar cheese. It was very good; maybe not the best ever, but certainly tasty. I also had a cup of fruit on the side. I'm of the opinion that you can tell something about restaurants from their fruit cups. Sometimes the fruit is all slimey because it's been sitting in a dish for hours. Not so here -- everything was fresh and tasted like they just sliced and diced it. This shows attention to detail, and I appreciate that.

You'll have fun if you go here, I promise.

Haven't had a bad meal yet.  But I've never ordered the burger- the hubby was not impressed, but the steak sandwich is delic and nutric of course!

Greeaat breakfasts, nothing like a chili omelet and a beer to recover from a long night.

I could do without the weird live music at times, but that magician was hilarious!

But uh...Yay!  I'm a fan!!

So on my last day of my recent trip up to Sacramento to find housing, I was in search of a place to go for breakfast that had a little bit of character to it. Coming from the well insulated and rather sterilized confines of South Orange County, this isn't too hard to do, but then again, it means I'm also slightly picky about what I mean by character - Industrial is passable, but hole in the ground is not.

Anyway, I find that this isn't too far away from the hotel, so I drive on over. Once inside, I was amazed - a converted warehouse (apparently) with enough Guiness/tartan special/double diamond/Courage Beer accouterments on brick wall - niice! We were seated near the entrance area, so I didn't get a good look at the rest of the place, but I was fairly impressed with what I saw and what I experienced.

Food itself was delightfully british - Bangers and Potatoes, Scones and Devonshire cream, crumpets, grilled tomatoes, all of it in very healthy portions.

Service was nice, however with everyone here, and the wait, they were fairly busy - it's a nice problem to have I suppose. It wasn't as if we were stranded.

Food tastewise was very good for breakfast. It makes me want to come back and find out more about the menu, and the beer.

Definitely a place I'll be returning to in the future.

5 stars for excellent unique decor, but -1 because the food wasn't THAT memorable. It was just ordinary breakfast food in my opinion.

Tip: Be ready to wait 15-20 minutes, since this place is extremely busy.

This place with it's many positive ratings caught our attention. Go Yelp! However, our experience was a bit lackluster. The venue is charming enough, the staff pleasant but the service often left our water glasses empty for awhile and had to be flagged down at every occasion.

The food was adequate but not outstanding. The multitude of vegan supplements was encoraging. However, it would have been more encouraging if the food would have tasted better.

went this morning for an omelet and was greeted and served very nicely.  the "British" omelet, you'd think, might be something they'd pull out a few stops for and, truthfully, it wasn't bad but it wasn't great.  cooked to my specifications (not too done or rubbery) the insides (bangers, red onions and cheddar) were surprisingly tasteless.  perhaps substituting their regular sausage links in place of the bangers might've helped give the dish some savoriness.  I'm in town for another week and perhaps I'll give them and different dish another shot.

I had a great little English breakfast here, eggs, bangers, and a crumpet with marmalade.  Everything was spot-on, or shal I say "pukka."  The service was excellent, the coffee was decent, and the decor is historical beer-vogue.

The Fox is in an old warehouse in downtown Sac.  There are large wooden beams jutting across the ceiling and they have some of the coolest old-school beer billboards I've ever seen.  Likely dating from the 1960's.

I like.

While I know plenty of people who love this place, I have a hard time recommending it.

Maybe it is because I typically go here on weekends, but I have never waited less than an hour for a table for 4 people.

If the food was great, I could understand but it is far from memorable.  I typically get a pub scramble and it tastes good, but combined with the wait makes it hard to recommend.

Came in on Fathers Day (GodFathers day for me) for the second time.

Wait was only about 30 minutes which appears to be quite standard, and they have a full bar (plenty of brews on tap) to assist you in passing the time! If your their with good company shouldnt be any problem.

I had the Benedict Arnold again, and it was just as good as the first time! I dunno I've seen some reviews here saying it wasnt all that, but I thought it was pretty tasty, it comes with "rarebit cheese sauce" YUM!

We had some scones one with devonshire cream, the other with lemon curd... I had never heard of either of these sauces, but wowza are they tasty!

Maybe its because I enjoy a few drinks and dont mind the wait, but I'd say overall 4 *'s for breakfast/brunch.

One of these days I'll make it in for dinner or for evening cocktails!

While the wait for breakfast is usually a bit long, it is well worth it. I'd have to say that this is one of my absolute favorite places to eat in Sacramento and definitely offers the best breakfast. I can't say that it beats a breakfast in actual England, but hey, it's still delicious. Although the Benedict Arnold has good intentions, I'm not impressed by it. I would stick with an omelet and suggest accompanying your breakfast with scones and devonshire cream. Yum.
The lunch is also good. I wouldn't say it is the best in town but does boast a tasty nutburger.
Go here! You won't be disappointed.

Seriously, the best breakfast I have ever had.  Seriously.  I'm not fucking joking.  You think I'm joking?  Well, I'm not.

Best eggs
Best potatoes (order them deluxe with grilled tomatoes and sour cream)
Best toast
Best kippered herring (yes, kippered herring)
Best coffee

This is the best.  Best ever.  Then again, it might have been the one hour wait for a table and the fact that I was starting to consider eating sugar packets by the time I got my food.

Free coffee!  Uh oh trouble. We had brunch here on Sunday morning. The wait was about 20 minutes but they give you free coffee while you wait. Not sure how I managed to drink 3 cups of coffee before they called us to get seated.

The food here was okay. The two of us got the California Omelet (chicken, avocado, and tomato) and the short stack of cinnamon raisin french toast with ollieberry topping. We also went with the almond peach scone. The portion was just right. Although the food was good it was nothing to rave about but for the price it was definitely reasonable.

I've Been Lonely, I've been waiting for you, I'm pretending, and that's all I can do . . .

Hello Fox hello Goose. In the area before 10a on a Saturday and wanted a good breakfast, something I had been waiting for at a place that had been waiting for me. The wait was not bad at all for 2...just enough time to get through the SN&R once.

Had a scone (check) devonshire cream (check) and of course the Benedict Arnold. The scones at $2.50 ea are a steal, I would gladly pay more for that little chunk of Heaven. The cream, omg, would have loved an IV of it.  The sauce for the eggs is different than your usual hollandaise. Actually it's not hollandaise at all, it's a cheese sauce. Be sure to top your eggs with it while it's hot because it cools and gets a little firm. (cheese, duh). The one thing I have to say though, is that the food looks a little sad the way it is presented. My dining companion had the waffle and it had no pizazz at all. Looked like a giant Eggo. No complaints on the taste though.

Water was good.

On my way out, I was giving myself props for getting in before the rush. The lobby was a mad house, standing room only.

This place is a little overrated.  The food is decent, but nothing special.  I think they had gone down in the quality.  For work, we come here a lot, either for breakfast or lunch.   The breakfast is okay, probably can get it better someplace else. Lunch is just mediocre, depending on what you order. I usually get the burger or chicken sandwich.  It's a little overpriced for what you get.  I can get a better burger down the street (old ironside). But it's all subjective right? Both dining and bar area has high ceilings, tv in the bar area for sports, booth and tables in the dining area.  It can get really crowded for breakfast on the weekend and on the weekday, it can be busy during lunch. They can accommodate a large group, but go early. They also offer coffee while you wait. Service is always good.

I was there once in the evening for the entertainment, horrible venue for a band. there were no place to sit or stand because the place was super crowded. Not a good set up. I had to sit out near the bar, couldn't see the band at all....disappointed.

After a long night of partying to celebrate my friend's graduation from law school we were all in need of a greasy, delicious breakfast. We showed up on Sunday morning around 11am and, given that we had a group of 7, we waited about an hour to be seated. This wait was bothersome, but we had a big group and the restaurant offers free, self serve coffee while you wait - a big plus.

Unfortunately, the food wasn't anything exceptional. I had the Benedict Arnold, which was English muffins, covered with bacon, poached eggs and rarebit cheese sauce. The rarebit cheese was like a melted, sharp cheddar sauce with a chunky texture. It was decent, but the grease began to separate from the cheese, which wasn't preferable. The rest of the breakfast selections seemed to be pretty standard, both in variety and taste (as reported by others' reactions to their meals).

The best thing here (other than the aforementioned free coffee) were the scones. We had an ollieberry scone that was perfectly baked, not to dry, not to moist. It came with a cream spread, that was a mix of sour cream and whipped cream - best spread ever.

Overall, the breakfast was okay, service was good, but I'd probably never make a significant effort to return. Prices were okay, 7 people ate well for about $90.

Everytime I've passed this place on Saturday/Sunday between 11:30AM-1:30PM, there's a long@$$ line at the door. I even went in one time with a party of 3 to find that there was going to be a 45 minute wait.

When I finally was able to go with the lady at 10:30AM on a Sunday morning, I expected this place to be dang good.

Grub [3 stars]:
*Ordered the British and she ordered a vegetarian omelette
*Bangers are orgasmic (and I don't eat meat that much)
*Lady enjoyed her vegetarian omelette
*Maybe my expectations were too high but I didn't think the food was out-of-this-world

Service [3 stars]:
*Standard service - it wasn't like they were rude or anything but it wasn't 'good' either

Final Call:
*I'd go back but I wouldn't wait in line for it (though hella people apparently think it's worth it!)

I want to give them a higher rating but I can't.  I really like the Fox & Goose because of the atmosphere and the beer.  They have a great selection from the UK which are in a different class than American beers.  They really are great!

The food...ehhh...not so much.  I was in Tijuana a long time ago and ordered chicken at this restaurant.  The waiter set it down on my table with a flourish as if I was dining in a 5 star Michelin rated restaurant.  Yes, he was that pompous.  The chicken looked like someone had taken most of the meat off a breast bone, stretched the skin taut over what was left and charred it.  SERIOUSLY.  The chicken ribs were showing through and there was almost no meat on it.  The chicken sandwich I ordered at F&G reminded me of it.

The breast was so dry it reminded me of sand.  Forget about any kind of juiciness.  It was literally thinner than a pancake and had no flavor.  What little flavor I got was from the tomatoes and pesto mayo.  The pesto mayo came, in a cup and was dry and crusty looking around the rim.  The side of potatoes were really inconsistent.  Some were crispy, some were tender.  Some had a funny taste and...some smelled like fish.

Did the waitress ever come by to ask about my meal?  No, I don't think so!  Maybe she already knew because she's had the chicken sandwich too.

I haven't eaten here but I hear it's really good!

I usually go in relatively late for a pint or two with a friend. Beer ain't cheap, but it's not outrageously expensive either. The way I see it, I'm paying a little extra to hang out in this cool ass establishment and meet interesting people.

Usually when there is music on the weekends, the bands are surprisingly really good and the cover is very reasonable, usually 5 bucks or less I think?

Waiting time wasn't too long, staff & service were good, I ordered eggs, potatoes, and chicken apple sausage for breakfast, I also had the raspberry almond swirl scone on the side.  It was deeeelicious!!!

The price is reasonable, atmosphere is busy and loud (as one would expect from a popular dive), and I would definitely come back here again and recommend the place to friends.

Eggs and potatoes combo was standard breakfast fare, but the scones with cream were YUM-O. They cut the scones, make them all nice and toasty, then slather some butter on, but the Devonshire cream just puts it over the top -- well worth the extra dollar.

A 20-min wait on a Friday morning at 11, nice laid-back atmosphere, and drinks before noon if that's your thing. 3.5 bumped up to 4 for the scones and cream.

I will have to give this place another chance as we went on a busy day.  The line was long the wait was long and there was no where to sit.  On to the service. It was terrible.  Although our waiter was very polite and professional he forgot to bring me my hot chocolate and took over 45 with our check.

I ordered the eggs and potatoes with a scone and devonshire cream.  First of all about the scone, is it just me or is it a muffin in disguise?  A scone is a form of biscuit right?  A scone is not a muffin!!!!  The devonshire cream on the other hand was absolute heaven,  it eased my anxiety over my muffin I mean scone.  Yes I eat my feelings sometimes.  My friend ordered the bangers omelet which she really enjoyed.  If I go again sometime I will probably try an omelet.

I am torn over if Fox and Goose is overrated or if we just went on a bad day.  I have heard so many things about this cute establishment (the decor is fun)  I will give it the benefit of my doubt and say it was just me.

My rating is based on 3 dining experiences at the fox and goose. The first time I went there, I heard from several people that it was the best place in Sacramento for breakfast. It's even listed on the "Best of" for breakfast places. Every time I came here there was a ridiculous line, and it was jam packed. One of my biggest pet peeves when waiting in line is when a host tells you that it's going to be a 15 minute wait, and then 45 minutes later you have to ask if you were skipped or something. The coffee was never good here, it always tasted a day old with next to no flavor.

I am pretty sure that I ordered something different each time, and was disappointed by the quality of my food each time. The last time I ordered the denver omelette, and the contents all spilled out and tasted rubbery. Which makes me think that they just cooked everything separate, fried up some egg beaters, and then folded the contents into the rubbery eggs.

I think that the only thing that saved my dining experience were the delicious scones and cream. I guess I never understood what all the hype was about with this place.

If you are going for drinks, that is one thing, but this review is regarding their breakfasts.  Perhaps it is the atmosphere, or perhaps it is just that British food sucks, but this place gets much better reviews than it deserves.

I have eaten several breakfasts at F&G, one of which was great, the rest pretty dodgy.  The one thing that was consistent: the side of potatoes seems absolutely resistant to salt.  They look nice, but it doesn't matter how much you shower on, they taste like they still need some sodium badly.  And sometimes the eggs are done, sometimes not; I guess it is up to the chef.  Kippers?  I don't care how much of an anglophile you are, unless you want a big, boney-ass, no meat having, hard to manage fish on your plate, stay away.

I guess the place is good if you want to eat in a crowd.  Otherwise there are much better places.

This is one of my favorite places in Sacramento.  Great breakfast, great lunch (but can be crowded), and a great place to get a beer after work.  The breakfast and lunch food is awesome.  The evening menu is limited (pub grub) and is probably the one thing that could be improved, but there are still several good options.  The beer selection is good.  The atmosphere is very relaxed, and you don't have to deal with the annoyingly trendy crowd as you do at so many other places.

Local politicians can be spotted here from time to time, and there is live music several nights per week, including an open mike night.

I used to travel a lot, just pack up and head out for 4-6 weeks
Every year we would save up and take off..........
But I got older, changed jobs, have more responsibilities and travel more locally than internationally.......
Which is why I love places that make me feel like I am somewhere else
I love being able to step inside somewhere and for a few hours I'm not in California..........its one of the reasons I love all the irish bars in the Sunset because when inside you feel like you are in Ireland
And its one of the reasons I really like the Fox and Goose .....
The food is good (but the wait is NOT)
So I prefer to come here on an off night or afternoon
You can go in get a pint of stout or seven and just relax.
They have live music (which I don't go for either) and it can get pretty crowded but I have a soft spot in my heart for this place on a quiet afternoon.

I have been going to Fox & Goose for breakfast since I was a little kid.

That said, the highlight of their breakfasts for me now is the scone w/ Devonshire cream. Their potatoes tend to be a bit on the soft side (I like crispy potatoes) and their french toast ain't shit on Tower Cafe.

I like the atmosphere of the place, and I like that you get coffee while you wait (even if it is mediocre). I don't like the ridiculously long waits, the soggy potatoes and the wait staff forgetting about me because they always seat me in the corner.

Definitely not my first choice in Sacto breakfasts... but also definitely not my last.

A nice British pub with a vibrant atmosphere of flags, knickknacks and other European style paintings adorn this former warehouse that's been changed into a bar.

Aside from a few classic British items - Cornish pasties, fish and chips, ploughman's platters, and bangers and mash for example - the lunch menu is filled with upscale American pub fare with a wide variety of salads, sandwiches and burgers. Vegetarian pesto sandwiches, Portobellos, a BLT made with marinated tempeh, and salads paired with poppy seed or raspberry fennel vinaigrettes. Not what I usually see on the typical bar menu.

The crew and I sampled a bit of both.
Cajun Chicken breast, Fish & Chips, Pasties with Welsh Rarebit and burgers.

Light, well seasoned, crispy batter over tender flaky fish. Thickly cut and crispy chips that really hold up to the malt vinegar. The grilled Cajun chicken with pesto mayo on an onion roll was very good. A bit dry although very tasty. I put some Colman's spicy mustard and that gave it the kick it needed.

I tried a bit of the Cornish pasty which was a first for me. The nice slices of steak and chunks of potato under a buttery thick crust was very good. We have a place down in the LA area that specializes in pasties and I'm gonna have to track it down and try some of the different varieties of these tasty meat pies.

Lots of beers on tap, British newspapers and a friendly staff to boot make this a great place to visit

This place has a lot of charm, excellent food, great music, and free trivia nights on Tuesdays (fun fun!).

Only thing I can fault them on is the slow, or un-attentive service, however it has always been REALLY busy every time I've gone for food, so can't fault them too much.

Great reviews on this restaurant but was very disappointed. Went there this morning for the first time and apparently unless you have 3 or more people you can't have a booth. They wouldn't even seat an old lady because her friend wasn't there yet. She even offered to order something so she could sit down but they declined. The place was freezing as well. The food wasn't anything special and the server wasn't attentive at all.

I put the Goose at a 3 because I fist went for the "Famous" breakfast only to be completely disappointed.  I had to wait 2.5 hours while sitting outside in the cold.  I then ordered an omelet that had pork loin in it and it was the worst omelet I have ever had.

I did leave with one good feeling, the bar was really cool a piece of London right in Sac.  I have gone back many times at night of a pint and good conversation and have not been disappointed, but dont go there before the band starts of Friday night because a little girl that always chews gum with her mouth open come by to collect a cover charge even if you have been sitting drinking for two hours.

The Bar really deserves a 5 star vote but the breakfast and the girl coming to collect cover have lowered it to the 3 that I have given it.

Banger Burger is something fantastic.

I like breakfast.  I really like breakfast.  This was Ok.

I had never tried Welsh Rarebit, which I've watched Mark Bittman make on NYT video while I am drooling.  I saw the opportunity to try it without having to make it myself, so I ordered the eggs benedict with Welsh Rarebit sauce on the side (instead of hollandaise on top).  The rarebit was very alcoholic tasting, which I didn't like, and there was a pool of grease in it, which made it really unappetizing.  The eggs benedict as a whole were ok, but the eggs themselves were poached well.

I also ordered a scone on the side--it was pretty good, mostly because it's cut in half, buttered and toasted.  That makes most breakfast breads taste good, so I consider that cheating.  I'm a bigger fan of moist, coarse crumbed scones.  Fox & Goose makes fine crumb scones.  Details, details.

This review is for the bar scene.  Friday night about 10:30.

We really like the friendly atmosphere and mixed crowd here.   The bartender was so apologetic about not  having a lot of ingredients for cocktails and then went on to make a fabulous dirty martini!  So sweet.  The other patrons were accomodating about moving over to make room for us by the bar and then started talking to us.  And the gal taking cover fees gave us a discount when she saw us hesitating slightly.  None of this 7 dollars for a DJ and like it or lump it attitude (sound familiar, nearby bar?).

The vocalist was lovely.  Perfectly pitched voice with head voice and chest voice equally compelling (like Sinead O'Connonr).

LORD HAVE MERCY!
I adore this place for a delicious breakfast every time.
Their omelets are fab as are the potatoes that come with, but the scones with devonshire cream are to DIE FOR. I would go there just for the scones alone! My fave omelet is the welsh rarebit - with its delicious cheesy/mustardy/beer-ey goodness - mmmmmmmmmmmmm!

You can expect to wait if you go on a weekend - and it would be well worth it. But if you can, go on a weekday. I don't think I've ever waited for a table on a weekday morning for breakfast.

Oh, you say you'd like some soup?
Well, my friend, you are SO in luck. The have a delicious seafood chowder. Its like a cross between a manhattan and new england and has capers for an extra little twist.
The servers checks to see if you need anything and fill your cup of coffee without hanging over you.
The prices are decent and you WILL be completely satisfied with the generous portions.

I'm drooling now - gotta go. :~)

Warm, crumby scones with double Devon cream; freshly brewed Earl Grey (I know, I can just hear the Darjeeling fans booing and hissing); and a vegetarian scramble that predictably used tofu as a stand-in for eggs but was nevertheless quite tasty.  Perfect!

Good, solid breakfast food - the kind of big food that leaves you full until dinner time.  If you like your meat and dairy you'll like this place even more than I did.

Nice beer selection as well - no, you won't find any premium Belgians here, but you're not limited to the usual below average suspects either.

The breakfast crowd is pretty large on the weekends (natch), so expect a bit of a wait and some noise if you choose to come then.
