I realized something about myself this Foruth of July- I am shocked at how many adults want to watch fireworks. And how many of my adult friends asked me if I was going to watch the fireworks display presented by our tax dollars and the Narberth Fourth of July committee.

This year, the SG and I had our kids during the day but they spent the eveing with their respective other parents. We were left alone- ALONE- no kids in our home, no kids to make dinner for, to entertain, nothing.

Now, when we are alone- ALONE- we are always a bit sad to be without our kids but it also kind of becomes like college again and dating and we are young and we can do anything, eat anything ( sort of) and go anywhere. Married people get a taste of this once in awhile by using a babysitter. We are court ordered. There is a difference.

So, our Fourth of July went like this: Kids, kids, kids, kids driving away with baby daddy, us alone, us at friend's barbeque, us declining various invitations to walk to town to watch fireworks in the rain. A lot of invitations. Which surprised me- it was obvious we didn't have our pack- why would we watch fireworks?

Is this some new adult pasttime? "Hey Jim and Michelle- do you want to go out for drinks and then watch fireworks?" When did this happen?

But then the fireworks actually did go on and the SG and I were able to easily watch them from our bedroom window. And the SG commented that now he go it, why so many neighbord were so hyped for our Narberth fireworks. They were pretty major - long, extensive and bright. Narberth could give Philly a run for it's money. I've never seen such an extensive show for such a tiny borough.

So  I suppose my cynical, sarcastic nature was tossed aside for a period of time and I watched  the pretty lights and reasoned anybody could enjoy these regardless of age...nah, nevermind.
