Honolulu, HI
There are two kinds of people in this world: Lodge at Koele People and Manele Bay People. I am a Lodge Person.
This is my favorite property in the state, partially because of the location, partially because of the impeccable design and aesthetics and partially because it's simply one of the most special places I've ever been.
The food and activities are insanely expensive so even if you're getting a good deal on the room, prepare to drop $400+ on incidentals for two for a weekend getaway.
The service can be mediocre and is generally not to 5-star standards but, hey, everything else makes up for it.
See you there, Lodge People. -

This is an amazing property and you feel like you should be walking the grounds with a parasol in one hand a mint julep in the other.
We ate dinner in the dining room and it was a wonderful experience. I usually don't have high expectations for hotel/resort food and I was pleasantly surprised.
My husband and I shared the venison prepared tableside cooked on lava stone and the sweet breads...both delicious.
For dinner we both enjoyed the wild boar, which was also delicious.
Dessert, we shared a chocolate soufflé with vanilla crème anglais...again, delicious.
The service was fantastic and some of the best I have experienced.
This place is pricey! It cost us about $400 for dinner, once the tip was added (and we did enjoy a "few" libations).
After dinner, they had no problem with us sitting out on the patio so my husband could enjoy his cigar.
We will definitely go back...once we replenish the bank account. -

The Lodge is gorgeous, the food wonderful, fun activities (loved horseback riding with Jesse - then you get to listen to him play guitar - the perfect cowboy!). There's very little negative to say, except...
The hotel is situated on a small island that's about 70 percent locals - Native Hawaiian and Philippino, and only about 3000 people on the island. As Europeans and White Americans plundered other cultures (Africa, Native American Indians, etc.), so they did with Native Hawaiians. Basically, Hawaii was captured and never let go. And the Hawaiian culture was (is?) regal, with great and wealthy royalty. They were doing fine on their own before we came along.
So it's a head-scratcher as to why there isn't any evidence of the Hawaiian culture in the Hotel (like there is in the Manele Bay Hotel or the Hotel Lana'i). Instead, there are two huge paintings of European aristocrats hanging in the main dining area. The hanging pictures are almost offensive; there are plenty of equivalent pictures of Hawaiian royalty that could, and should, be recognized. And with the number of locals working in the hotel, and living in the community, you'd think that Four Seasons would attempt to be a better neighbor by respecting Hawaiian history (at least for the sake of local authenticity). -

We just got married here. So beautiful and serene. Everyone that joined us had their expectations exceeded. Service was excellent and there's lots to do from here. This is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed at. The food was good but sooo expensive. I highly recommend going to lanai city grill for dinner. And to the local cafes for lunch.

What can you say, staff accommodations and location is one of a kind. This is one of the best places I have ever stayed. Lanai City is great and you'll love the people.

For a complete R&R vacay, this is the place to go.
Upon arrival, you'll check in at their kiosk at the baggage claim. Tell them which hotel you're staying at (the Lodge or Manele Bay) and give them your luggage and board the shuttle to the hotel. Once you arrive at the hotel, you'll be greeted with a kukui nut lei and instructed to take a seat in the lobby. The hostess will bring you a damp towel and something to drink - so refreshing! She'll also bring your check in forms to you! Talk about service.
After check in, you are escorted to your room and your oasis awaits. At the Lodge, there are many things you can do for free - jump in the heated pool, play mini golf, go for a hike (there is a stunning view of Molokai, Maui, and the valleys at the end!), walk to Lanai City, or play games in the game room (pool, shuffle board, chess).
You can also take the shuttle to Lanai City, Hotel Lanai, or Manele Bay for a change of scenery!
I LOVE the L'Occitane soaps that they provide for free in the rooms!
If you're Kama'aina, be sure to ask for the Kama'aina room rates! -

We went to Lanai on a whim, stayed at Hotel Lanai the first night and had a blast. I took my fiance up to the Lodge on Christmas Eve to show him around the grounds...and the next thing I knew we were checking in. They had 1 room left and we took it :)
We got to hang a stocking on the mantle on Christmas Eve that santa filled with goodies and then enjoyed an evening by the fire sipping warm cocktails and snacking on pupus...hopefully it was the start of a new tradition we stumbled upon!! Can't imagine waking up on Christmas morning in a better spot. In one word: EPIC! -
Review from Olivia D.
If you were on Lana'i last weekend and happened to catch a glimpse of a crazy, sweaty girl running up the driveway to the Lodge at Koele with a gigantic contraband jackfruit leaking sticky sap in her arms, that was me. The exasperated man walking behind me pretending not to know me was my boyfriend, who should actually feel very lucky that my only vice lies in stealing 30 pound spiky tropical fruit.
Actually, it wasn't stealing. I had noticed another jackfruit tree near the croquet court on the front lawn when we first arrived at the Lodge and the bellman, noticing my interest and acute salivation, had invited me to pick whatever I wanted and they would cut it for me. They probably didn't think I would actually do it!
From that point on, every bellman knew me and would greet me by name every time I went past them. In fact, during my stay, every single person I came across, whether it was a groundskeeper or housekeeper, stopped what he or she was doing to smile and greet me as I went past. The entire staff was so professional and genuinely friendly. I love that they try to use your name as much as possible too. When I came back from my morning run, I was greeted in the driveway with, "Nice run, Ms. D" and handed a cold bottle of water. Even my bf was impressed when he answered the door in the evening and the housekeeper asked, "Dr. F, would you like turn down service?"
The service is stellar from the beginning of your stay to the very end. Upon arrival at the airport, you check in with the shuttle driver at the Four Seasons kiosk and he loads your bags for the short drive to Koele. As soon as you step down from the shuttle, you are greeted with a kukui nut lei, pineapple juice and a hot towel. Instead of standing in line at the front desk to check in, you are invited to relax in the comfy lobby armchairs and a receptionist will come to you. Then when your room is ready, your receptionist will walk you to it, rather than let you wander about to find it by yourself. It makes perfect sense! They even came over with crayons and coloring pages right away for our fidgety 4 year old before he could turn into a whirling dervish and destroy the beautiful lobby.
If you have children, don't forget to provide their names and ages when you make the reservation. They provide little bathrobes and a stuffed pony and they also spell out the child's name in colorful sponges in the bathroom. When we'd return to our room after the day's activities, we'd find a card with clues as to where the pony was hidden that night. Children under 5 also eat for free (and kama'aina get 20% off food too).
The only complaint I have about Koele is with the food service personnel. The wait staff needs to be trained on how to be more than just order takers. They are unable to merchandise, make recommendations, or explain what anything is. For example, at high tea, I asked what brand of tea they served and the server just gave me a blank stare. They rarely come back to check on you or refill drinks and finding someone to give you your bill can be frustrating. They are still polite and friendly, but otherwise useless.
Also, I had called the day before our arrival to purchase some chocolate covered strawberries and a card to be put in our room for my bf's birthday and I stressed several times that I wanted it to be waiting in our room upon check-in, not later in the day. I was disappointed when we were shown to our room and the surprise wasn't there yet. It was also a mini-ordeal to order it and took way longer than it should have.
All of the other staff is wonderful, though. Our housekeeper even folded a pile of clothes I'd kicked off and organized my toiletries. I felt really bad for her that she had to do that for messy me.
There is a great 18-hole mini golf course, and be sure to take advantage of croquet and lawn bowling, all free. The front desk will also give you maps of where to run and hike. We did the Kolo'iki trail, which was well-marked and a great little 5 mile hike that intersected with the Munro Trail and ended with a stunning view of Molokai and Maui. If you forgot workout clothes, they will give you a shirt and shorts. They have bikes and helmets that you can borrow as well.
The Lodge at Koele is truly lovely. There are tiny buddha and other little statues hidden throughout the perfectly manicured grounds. Take your time to wander the path and explore the gazebos and koi ponds. Late one night, we broke out our cigars and smoked them next to the fountain with a kiawe wood firepit blazing nearby to keep us warm. We were the only ones out there the whole night. The stars were twinkling, the pond was dark and still and we talked and danced and laughed and had a perfectly lovely evening. -

Such a wonderful resort. Great staff, fine dining, nice bar area, rooms are neat and well decorated, lots of hiking trails, mini golf, big spider webs, lounging around, awesome afternoon tea time. I'm dying to go back.
The Experience at Koele is my favorite course in the state. It's signature 17th hole has a spectacular 250 foot drop to the fairway. Oh, watch out of the deer poop and the house that's in the middle of the course - front and back nine. -
Review from Kate R.
I was pretty impressed with the Lodge.
My husband and I were planning an inter-island getaway, and I called months ago to make a reservation. I wasn't sure which 4-seasons we wanted to stay at, and the reservations person that I talked to was very helpful, saying that kamaaina typically like the lodge better as it really feels like you've gone to the mainland or someplace remote.
Also, the lodge was about $50 cheaper than Manele - so we went with Koele.
After our shuttle van took us from the airport to the Lodge, we were greeted with lei, hot towels, and pineapple juice (which I'm not usually a fan of but this was really tasty). Then, we were invited to have a seat and they would come over and check us in. I've never had a hotel do that before - 5 stars for that alone. Very impressive.
However, I was a little bummed out that there was actually a cheaper kamaaina rate than the one I was quoted - there was coincidentally a jazz festival going on the weekend we were there, and we could have paid about $30 less a night for the rooms. But, since we didn't know that ahead of time, we missed out. I would think that the Four Seasons would have mentioned that when I asked for the most inexpensive kamaaina rate.
I was surprised at how expensive EVERYTHING was there - food and drinks especially. But, a quick shuttle ride into Lanai City meets you with much more reasonable prices and lots of yummy food options. And, I appreciated that there were several free activities, like lawn bowling and shuffleboard.
I'd definitely return again - but I'd be sure to do better research and ask around a little more about rates to save some extra $$. -

This is as good as it gets.
Once you arrive your transformed into a beautiful Mountain Side Retreat far from the World Outside.
The Rooms are decorated well and the overall ambiance is very relaxing.
Great Place for a short get away.
We look forward to returning. -
Review from Kevin H.
We had a great time here. If you are kama'aina, then you can get a really good rate (about 250 a night). This is a nice place to stay if you actually live in Hawaii and need a short vacation because the Lodge is really unlike any other resort in Hawaii. You feel like you're transported to somewhere in the Northwest because of the vast, sweeping landscapes and the surrounding pine trees. The service is impeccable.. Very friendly and accommodating. The shuttle service takes you back and forth to the airport and to the other Four Seasons at Manele Bay.
For activities, we went horseback riding at 220 per person. My GF really enjoyed it but I thought it was a bit boring. The horseback riding at Kuuloa Ranch for example is way more scenic.
We also shot clays with a shotgun which was so much fun! I highly recommend it! It was about $240 for two of us (kama'aina rate). After a short intro course, they let you go on your own to different clay shooting areas. That was probably the highlight of our trip.
Definitely worth all the money I spent here! -

Dear Boyfriend:
I want you to whisk me away to a romantic getaway at the Koele Lodge. Here are the 10 reasons why:
1) It's a five-diamond rated resort and as I'm a five-star kind of girl who likes diamonds this would be a wise choice in impressing me. Plus it's cheaper than that Harry Winston diamond you promised me.
2) The Governator (Mr. Schwarzenegger if you're nasty) stays here on vacation. I am a fan of his movies, especially the one where he becomes pregnant because that's what I wish would happen to you next time we have a baby. It would make me feel like life is truly fair and that God is indeed a woman.
3) They have high tea in the restaurant and as you know I love any event where I can pretend I'm Mrs. Sassafrass and you are Mrs. Pumpernickel. Oh and I once saw a man accidentally hit his wife in the head with a croquet mallet on the outside lawn while having tea here. I would like to see this to happen again because she was really mad at him when she got up.
4) The food here is amazing! Yes, we will each gain 15 pounds but at least we'll get fat together.
5) They have a game room where you can play chinese checkers. I will so destroy you at chinese checkers!!!
6) We can play golf as well as mini-putt. You will probably beat me at golf. But I have the advantage of being lower to the ground so I will surely dominate when we play mini-putt. I call dibs on driving the cart!
7) There is a giant koi pond. The fish have written to me and said they miss me. You wouldn't want to disappoint the hundred year old fish would you?
8) We can take the hotel shuttle to Manele Bay and go swimming. Sure we can swim in the ocean here at home but the ocean there just tastes better.
9) I had your baby. I deserve this. It will help to save my overall sanity as a mother.
10) You love me.

I credit this amazing resort for turning me on to luxury and class at its finest.
After our family does our annual pilgrimage to rustic Hana, we head over to the Four Seasons to live large. The grounds are perfect for walking and it feels like an English countryside, which is a very interesting contrast from the beach down the road. My favorite part is having amazing fresh fish for dinner and also shooting clay pigeons. -

one of the best hotel experiences i've ever! from early check-in to late check-out...everyone was so friendly and accomodating. the hotel rooms and grounds are well-maintained and beautiful.
i loved that you are able to use facilities at both the lodge and at manele bay. we took advantage of the putting green and horseback riding at the hotel, and the pool at manele bay (pool service is AMAZING...seriously, they offer to clean your sunglasses!)
this place truly is a great place to relax in a peaceful serene atmosphere.
MUST TRY: the truffled popcorn at the bar.
the only downside: the food is EXPENSIVE....and nothing to rave about. (except the popcorn. yum. ) -

Given that I was flown out to do a job at the other Four Seasons on Lanai, with per diem, a star show, and a fancy room at this hotel (The Four Seasons @ Koele Bay-) --and more actually! The truffle popcorn was just the thing that made me feel like I had died and gone to heaven. I mean, what did I do to deserve this? I know I was an angel :P in this life and that was one of my rewards. I will NEVER forget the truffle popcorn with parmesan. To die for. Only $8 for heaven and little 8-Mile on cable since it was a suuuper windy night. They also have aMAzing bathrooms. Royal treatment. Did I mention that I LOVE truffles?!

While staying at the FS Manele Bay, we ventured into the city to golf at Koele. Even compared to the Manele Bay course, I still loved this one most. The signature hole (17, I think?) was breathtaking & the temperature was perfect. Of course, each hole was incredibly manicured (which is probably an understatement :). Absolutely worth a few beach hours to enjoy the wonder if this course.

All in all hands down the most cozy, homey, and quietest place in lanai'i but hey the island overall is quiet! Beautiful island and this resort exemplifies just that! If there is one place you "wanna get away" besides those Southwest commercials ;) then this is your destination for relaxation!

Lahaina, HI
I'll start with the bad first, since there was only 1 disappointment during our otherwise wonderful stay. The Terrace Restaurant in the lobby was horrible. We ate dinner on a Sunday evening and everything my family and I had was tasteless with no flavor. If it weren't for being a Sunday and such a late hour, we would have gone in to town to grab a bite, but everything was already closed. We had to force ourselves to finish most of our meals since there was no other food available. Luckily the bread was decent and we were able to fill up on that. The wait staff was also very unhelpful, untrained and impersonal. Now on to the good stuff.
The Four Seasons Lodge at Koele is amazing, magical, delightful, and so much more! Getting off the shuttle from the harbor a 50 pound weight is immediately lifted and all your daily cares and worries quickly melt away. The smell of the wood-burning fireplace really adds a sense of place and you feel like you're in a country atmosphere, although a very luxurious country atmosphere. You're greeted with a very yummy pineapple lemonade juice and since this is a Four Seasons, you don't go to the front desk to check-in, they sit you down in the very comfy lobby for a personal check-in by very competent and friendly staff.
Our room was very comfortable and since they asked beforehand, my daughter's name was spelt out in sponge letters in the tub and she had cookies and milk waiting. Also, to her delight, a stuffed horse was waiting for her on her own toddler bed which she loved and slept in during our entire stay, which she refuses to do at home (she usually only sleeps with mommy and daddy).
There was really no reason to leave the resort during our stay. We enjoyed everything the resort had to offer: putting course, croquette, game room, feeding the koi, the heated pool and jacuzzis, strolling through the gardens and orchid house and my family especially loved the pony rides and skeet shooting.
Even with a disappointment with the restaurant, we would definitely be back. Besides the incompetent wait staff, everyone else was friendly and extremely helpful from the bellmen to the concierge. -

We snuck away from Oahu for a few days following our wedding for a mini-honeymoon in Lanai. We stayed at both Four Seasons properties and were wholly impressed by both! They are a most wonderful experience---exactly what you would expect from a Four Seasons. The staff went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful stay, the transportation was prompt and comfortable, the grounds at both resorts were impeccably maintained and the attention to detail in the whole presentation is without compare.
The only down side to both of these properties is that they both used to be owned by Starwood and still carry some of the feel of a Starwood property. The bathrooms are not what you would expect from a Four Seasons and the rooms are a little on the small side. The staff and atmosphere, the attention to detail, and the fine decor throughout the resorts more than make up for the only shortcoming we observed.
We will definitely be back and would recommend both of these properties to anyone and everyone! -
Review from Rob B.
I have been here 3 times, the first some 12 years ago, private owner on it's own. Then about 9 years ago it was a Starwood managed property and now in 2011, it's the Four Seasons. The local makes it so special but now I think they have the right management! I understand that this lease is 99 years so, since they took over in 1995, we all have a good long time to enjoy this place done right.
It can be expensive and it can be done 5 star pretty reasonablly. The Lodge excels over Manele and comes cheaper. We paid $250 a night and upgraded to a suite for $49 more per night. The recent recession has been a boom for local grinds and on my last visit there was only one place to eat now number 5 or more. The Lahina Grill is 5 star and cost 1/2 the hotel prices. Breakfast and lunches in town are just fine and fun at the local spots. We rented a jeep this time and did the far flung and it was FANTASTIC. Best $150 rental for a day! Note too, it was all rain here at the Lodge today and while we had some showers in the drive we found mostly sun around the islands outer reaches.
The most improved part of the resort(s) is the service and the class that Four Seasons has imparted. In retrospect, we paid about the same for everyting that we did or had at the resort last visit but the value was much better now and the local grinds made the whole experience now, worth every dollar. Thanks and mahalo, it will not be 9 more years till we return this time. -
Review from Kanani N.
Hercules, CA
The lobby looked more like a lodge. I felt like it should have been snowing with such an ambiance! Reminded me of Lake Tahoe in Nevada especially with its pine tree's. In Koele, there were more things to see and do. For example, their "backyard" had some kind of Japanese theme to it - a small river, a huge pond with Koi fish, Buddha's, an orchid house...absolutely beautiful! Very serene. There's just some kind of calming effect. Also, i think the staff is friendlier and the rich people aren't as snobby. And at night?...omg, the best place in the island to lay back and watch the stars align. I am not kidding.
For dinner, we ate at the Terrace. A little small but very elegant. For my entree, I ordered the Grilled Tiger Prawns sauteed in Garlic Butter. There were 5 prawns in my plate. Hmm...only 5 prawns. Womp womp. Thank God it came with a side dish of your choice! If it didn't, I would've cried of hunger. I wanted to get something fulfilling so I got the Mac n' Cheese which had 5 different cheeses. With the grilled tiger prawns came 4 different sauces: Mango Relish, Tomato Caper, Ginger Yuzu or Miso Butter. My favorite was the Miso Butter. It was creamy and went very well with the prawns. My least favorite? Tomato Caper. Kind of reminded me of tomato soup. The prawns didn't taste any different. They were juicy and delicious but I couldn't find any wow factor until I dipped it into one of the sauces.
My dad ordered the Pan-Seared Island Snapper with Lemongrass. One word: DRY. Enough said.
Feeling a bit too hungry and can't wait for your entree? I recommend trying the Maui Onion Soup with Aged Comte Cheese. I don't like onion soup but this one was a hit! It wasn't very "onion-y"....it was more like...a hint of onion.
Besides the food, I really do recommend staying at this hotel. In my opinion, there are more activities to do here such as archery, miniature golf, and sporting clays. Or maybe even yoga but at your own convenience. The resort is not by the beach but your stay will not disappoint. Keep in mind that there's a shuttle that can take you to the beach in Manele. -

If you really want to find paradise, yes even if you live here in Hawaii, you have got to come to Koele, Lodge.
First of all the place is just beautiful. Then you'll get to meet the staff as they welcome with some genuine Aloha not just the brochure smiles.
We had a business dinner here is it was amazing. I was super excited when I looked on the menu and found Chimichuri Sauce that I could add to my choice of Meat, Fish or Fowl.
I tried Risotto, Field Greens, Duck Muscovey, Grilled Chicken, Gratinated Potatoes, Roasted Apples and 3 great wines.
This is a must do place to eat and visit. -

High up into the slopes of the island of Lanai - you will find the Lodge at Koele - a traditional looking hunting lodge. You are up in the cloud line so it gets cooler up here - hard to believe that you are in hawaii!
Looking down the mountain you will see lush tropical green, beautiful golf landscape and the occasional sighting of the deer that roam the slopes. It is very quiet and remote on this island - you willl have have thoughts of 'Fantasy Island'....but you will not want to leave the resort.
I felt truly pampered here - the service was outstanding! -

Honolulu, HI
We spent a week end at the Koele, ad the hotel itself is really beautiful. It is lush, fresh, and everything is very detail oriented. The architecture is what my (very big) dream house would be, and the gardens are beautifully taken care of. The room was large, and comfy, the sheets, soft.
The activities are numerous, a lot of them are free. We loved the croquet games, and the fitness center has brand new state of the art equipment. We wanted to do some horseback riding, but the manager had quit the week before, so no one could ride. That was too bad, but no one's fault, right?
Also they say that there is a shuttle to town every hour only, but if you beg nicely enough, they will just bring you where ever whenever if there is a van available. Nice.
It was very resting and I loved staying there. Just not eating at their Dining Room restaurant (cf my other review on it).
Cheers -

The Lodge at Koele has to be one of the most unique properties in Hawaii. Located up island on Lana'i and built and decorated to resemble a hunting lodge it feels like you are living in 1920's. We enjoyed horseback riding, playing croquete on the lawn and playing on the putting green. It was also close to the Munro trail where my husband went biking.
The pool area was only ok, so when we wanted to hang by the pool or beach we took the shuttle service down to Manele. I would highly recommend this island and property experience. -

We got engaged here, so it will always be a special place for us
This place is awesome. Where else do you find a hunting lodge on a tropical island?
Here were the highlights from my experience:
- Beautiful gardens, wonderful landscapes
- Fun activities, including executive 18 hole putting course, mountain bike rentals, etc.
- Shuttle to Manele Bay makes it all very convenient
- Great friendly staff, these guys were awesome, so nice -

After my disappointing 9 night stay at Manele Bay, my husband and I ventured to the lodged at Koele for 3 nights. We were blown away. The grounds are spectacular and our rooms were large and unique. We had a lot of fun taking advantage of the many activities the lodge has to offer (skeet shooting, golf, croquet to name a few). The food was also much better at the Lodge... especially the food at the bar. I highly recommend the nachos and popcorn.

We stayed here for 1 night after staying at the Four Seasons Manele Bay for 1 night. This place had a totally different feel. It didn't feel like we were in Hawaii anymore. I loved the lobby area with the gigantic fireplaces on both sides and the 2 huge chandeliers. The library room had a cozy and romantic feel, except that they didn't have the fire going. We had dinner at the Terrace restaurant and the food was delicious. Even the bread and butter was so good that we had it refilled 2 more times. We ended that night with a dip in the jacuzzi, staring up at the stars. The next day we golfed but had to hurry back to check out of our room. After that we used their putting course to kill some time and just walked around checking out the hotel grounds. It was beautiful. I loved it here and didn't want to leave.

After the hotel picked me up at the airport, I was greeted at the Lodge with a beautiful lei and a refreshing glass of pineapple juice --perfectly appropriate from the pineapple island. The setting is beautiful although a little bit chillier than the warmer Manele Bay resort. The setting is relaxing and feels like it has escaped time. The service is excellent and the grounds are full of fun actiivities --hiking (you are rewarded with views of Maui and Molaki), golf, executive golf (putting), several croquet courses, tea, pool lounging, gym, shooting range, horseback riding, etc. Worth the trek to this island!!

Absolutely beautiful!!! It offers a different take on the tropical paradise perspective.
The BF and I went to visit Lanai over the weekend for some much needed post-birthday R&R (his not mine). We were both looking forward to it because everyone was saying that the Lodge at Koele was a great property and would not disappoint... they were definitely right!
Located not far from charmingly, quaint Lanai City, Koele Lodge offers beautiful, landscaped grounds and absolutely top-notch service! It's "lodgey" rustic charm meets 5 star quality... just GREAT! You wouldn't even think you were in Hawaii! Rooms were spacious and the beds were uber comfortable. Their housekeeping staff were certainly on top of things as we always left the room in complete disarray and we would come back to a serenely clean, picture-perfect room. The Concierge and front desk staff were also very helpful and happy to oblige with any requests or questions we had. The unlimited shuttle service between Manele Bay, Airport, Ferry, and Lanai city was also very convenient as we opted out of renting a car or 4X4 for the weekend. The Lodge also offers many free activities such as miniature golf, lawn bowling, biking and can book horseback rides and clay shooting not far away for a small cost.
Although Lanai might not be for everyone, my BF and I had a very lovely and relaxing time at the Four Seasons Lodge. If you're looking for a different experience in Hawaii, Four Seasons Koele Lodge in Lanai is definitely IT. I highly recommend staying here and cannot wait for our next visit! -

Have lived in Hawaii my entire life and this was first visit to Lanai. I was blown away by the country charm and the beauty of this island. It was so calming and peaceful. The service was impeccable. The sky so clear, clean, fresh and vog-free. The Lodge is a secluded, less touristy type of hotel that feels more like an exclusive bed and breakfast.
Pros:
1. Beautiful location. Secluded, romantic location complete with koi pond, covered porches, banyan trees and fireplaces.
2. Outstanding service by employees who care.
3. Fun free activities in resort including croquet, shuffleboard, foosball, billiards, miniature golf and hiking trails.
4. Convenient shuttles to town and Manele Bay
5. Service was so personalized that t felt more like staying in bed and breakfast than hotel.
Cons:
1. Food choices were limited and not up to par. Breakfast was excellent. (Recommend the lobster hasbrowns)
2. The mattresses were really uncomfortable. Ended up sleeping on the couch.
**Be sure to go to Manele Bay in the morning. Not only was it rated top 10 dive spots in the world, they provide beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, cold water and lemonade, but you can swim with hundreds of dolphins that just swim into the bay. Incredible!!** -

Spent 3 nights of our honeymoon here last month. It was just what we wanted, beautiful and quiet. our room was very nice, the hotel employees and concierges were great. My only complaint would be the lack of food options with only 2 restaurants on site and the fancier restaurant isn't open every day. The grounds are beautiful and they have a complimentary executive putting course, croquet lawns, and lawn bowling. Along with a game room, library room, free DVDs on loan from the front desk.

I am in love with the island of Lanai. We spent a week at my gf's condo on Manele Bay and now we never want to go back to Maui. I must be loco. Truly a spectacular home overlooking the Pacific with a nice Hummer in the garage to tour the backroads of this sleepy little island. Tooled on up to the Koele Lodge for Happy Hour and enjoyed fine cocktails and happy hour priced pupus. They were having a 6? course wine tastting dinner that evening, but alas my spousal unit had no closed toe shoes or slacks so we couldn't indulge. Damn! I guess next time? Anyway, the lodge is gorgeous and so far away from the usual Hawaii resort theme.. I certainly can see why Bill Gates got married here. This truly is paradise. Looking to buy a a little place here...that's how much we loved it. Shhhhh don't tell the tourist......

The Lodge was an extremely well-appointed, relaxing getaway - though it did feel more like Connecticut than Hawaii after staying down at the Manele Bay Four Seasons Set further inland and further up from sea level, it is decorated and designed like a sportsman's lodge. Inside, there is a huge great room area with 2 fireplaces, live music every night and great cocktail service. There are also a library, tea room (the tea service was delicious and surprisingly affordable), game room, and music room. Outside there are 2 croquet lawns, a bocce court and an 18 hole executive putting green. We tested out all of the different sporting options, which was a lot of fun. The nearby Experience at Koele golf course was beautiful to behold, especially the 17th green (though we didn't get to play it). We did a 2.5 hour hike up to Koloiki Ridge while we were there, which had great views, despite the fog, and was a pleasant, moderately difficult hike. In terms of off-grounds experiences, we did the 4x4 jeep rental to off road around the island, which we would recommend, as well as the Lanai Pines clay shooting, which was a lot of fun. The food was good - outside of tea service and drinks/apps, we only ate at the Terrace (the Dining Room looked very pricey), but my fish entree was delectable and the creme brulee was fantastic. All in all, a great place for a relaxing escape - but it is very quiet up there in the wooded hills so make sure you bring good books for the evenings!

Wow, talk about being pampered. I had the extreme pleasure of being a guest here for 4 nights for a wedding, so the extra special treatment might have been due to the association with the wedding party. Besides the warm feeling the Lodge atmosphere brings, it's easy to see the 5 stars are a result of their impeccable service. The friendly locals' attitudes remind me so much of the warm reception that I get back in Thailand. It always seemed like my stateroom was being cleaned 3 times a day. Room service was so attentive it was scary. I never quite knew if a maid would appear suddenly to wipe my ass for me. During some idle time I took advantage of the well maintained tennis courts and putting course. My only gripe during the stay was with the shuttle service between Manele and Koele. I can't fault the drive entirely but a night of heavy drinking at the Manele hotel and the wild hairpin turns up the cliff area led to severe motion sickness and several cases of projectile vomit.
