Yes, it takes a while to get your food. Yes, it's unbelievably busy. No, I don't care.
I LOVE this place. The grilled cheese/tomato soup is epic. I also really like the cornbread. And, of course, I like the concept behind the restaurant.
My favorite DC restaurant thus far. -
Review from Bettina R.
Washington, DC
I've had one underwhelming experience here, and one slightly better one, but considering all the hype I hear about Founding Farmers, three stars seems appropriate.
The drinks here are good. When I mentioned to the bartender that I'm a fan of rye bourbon, the bartender came up with some good off-the-menu choice for me. (I nixed the Sazerac he suggested, as I'm not a fan of absinthe.) I do wish he'd explained what he made, though.
Both of my dining experiences leave me wanting more. I did enjoy my recent dinner of fried chicken legs, waffles, and macaroni, none of it was so extraordinary, really. I'd forgotten I had the same thing during brunch a few months earlier. Seriously, that brunch experience was so underwhelming that I forgot that I had chicken and waffles then too (served with poached eggs instead of veggies for a more breakfast-y experience.) I do remember being displeased that they advertised a fried boneless, skinless chicken breast as fried chicken. Um. That is *not* fried chicken. (I don't know why it's done differently at dinner.) And the poached eggs were made in one of those weird egg-poaching pans. i'm just not a fan of the super uniform poached egg. Not only do I expect restaurants to do this the free-formed way, but this method makes the eggs look strange (I swear they look like little UFOs), and the yolk wasn't appropriately runny, either. SADFACE. The waffles were just waffles. I guess I'm glad they weren't soggy, and I'm glad the maple syrup wasn't that weird fructosey stuff, but nothing super special happening there either.
I'm not saying I didn't like my food here. I liked it okay, but I was expecting a lot more, given all the raving I'd heard about it, and everything just seemed okay to me. It also seems like they don't ever fully book the place. Both times I visited, they stressed that we make reservations, and both times, I counted several empty tables around us. It's weird and slightly irritating to me when I'm made to wait for a table when I can see places to sit all around you.
Meh. I'll probably go back anyway, as it's a favorite of some friends of mine, but this place isn't really reppin' the best of the DC restaurant scene like some make it out to be. -
Review from Mark S.
Very overrated restaurant. Yelp let me down :'(
My wife and I came here and we've been working out/dieting well for the past month or so.. so we decided to treat ourselves to a nice unhealthy meal while we were in the city for the DC Auto Show.
Days prior to our visit at Founding Farmers, we constantly looked at the menu and the photos on Yelp debating and switching our minds on what foods we were going to order. I had almost forgot about our reservation a few days before we went and luckily someone called and emailed me to confirm (I booked via http://OpenTable.com).
The restaurant is conveniently located near 3 metro stations (Farragut West, Farragut North, and Foggy Bottom-GWU).
We arrived about 5 minutes early and had to wait 5 minutes (which I guess even outs). The wait wasn't long since we had reservations, but that place was crowded (and it was raining too!)
I don't like their seating. It reminds me of Max Brenner in NYC. The tables are way too close. No room for intimate dining. It's like they tried to shove as many tables together as close as possible. And to make it worse, when the waitress would stand between our table and the next table when she was talking to them so her butt would be in our face while we're trying to eat. Luckily she wasn't fat or else her butt might have smacked my waffles. And no wife, I wasn't starting at her butt!
For drinks, we ordered the lemonade and the arnold palmer. I love me some arnold palmer (the drink obviously). Fresh made iced tea with fresh lemonade mixed together. sweet and sour. yum! In fact, I ordered ANOTHER one after I finished it.
For the appetizers, we ordered the popcorn of the day.. ranch flavor. The flavor was good, but the popcorn seemed stale and wasn't warm/fresh. We also ordered the black peppered chicken wings. THESE WERE AMAZING. These were probably my favorite thing that we ordered all night. I could eat them right now. I wouldn't go back to this restaurant, but if other people were going and I was invited (who would invite me?), then I would probably order the wings again and just the arnold palmer drink.
For our entrees, my wife got the raw tuna poke bowl and i got the famous fried chicken and waffles. My wife's raw tuna poke bowl was a bit too sweet for her taste. She was thinking it would be more like the hawaiian poke bowls that are salty and sour with sesame oil. She said it was good, but not as good or as fresh as hawaii. the serving size wasn't too big or too small. it was sufficient. My chicken and waffles were ehhh. For my side dish I ordered french fries. They tasted like Five Guys fries. They were good. I don't know if it's because I don't know how to eat chicken and waffle dishes or what.. but mine wasn't that great. the chicken was a big dry and bland. i wasn't sure if i was supposed to use only the waffle syrup on just the waffles or also on the chicken? also the white creamy syrup.. was that just for chicken? i was a bit confused. i just poured both sauces over both items.
All and all.. it was an OK restaurant. i guess going in there with the mentality of "this restaurant must be great! it has over a 1,000 reviews and 4 stars!".. but ehh.
the plus side to this restaurant is that i think all their food is organic or local. -

Wow, I was pleasantly surprised, but Founding Farmers actually does live up to the hype (for brunch, anyway). Great portions, decent value. I had the hash with pastrami with a hollandaise sauce, which was rather unique (and delicious). Their breakfast hashbrowns were unremarkable, but props for the homemade english muffins!
Next time definitely trying the fresh beignets and the pancakes the size of your plate. -

Place is legit. Was seated upstairs for dinner and was greeted by a very friendly and helpful waiter. Ordered the fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs. Delicious. We also ordered a couple of their featured craft drinks and were equally impressed. The homemade ginger in the dark and story was fantastic. Also, liked their ice. Didn't seem to melt for what it's worth.
I did have to go with the pot roast and wasn't disappointed. Very tender and awash in potatoes and vegetables. The only issue I had with the dish was that the potatoes sort of liquified due to being all mixed together - sort of a stew. Regardless, the dish was delicious. Got a glass of the malbec and I thought I was drinking cool-aid. Not thrilled, but that is really the only blemish here.
Oh, and dinner for two, a round of drinks, a round of wine, and 2 appetizers all for under $115 including tip. Deal! -

So my 4 star for dinner still remains but I was incredibly disappointed with brunch. I made reservations for when a friend was visiting because I thought this place is raved about so much I need to take her here! Everything was just boring. I think I could have gotten just as good of food at a local diner. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles and the chicken was not good. The waffle was OK and so was the gravy, though I kind of wished they had poured it on top for me. Oh well...it was just a let down after I had heard such great things.
I'll still want to come back for dinner since that was great but will not be back for brunch.1 Previous Review: Show all »

If you are seeking farm to table - this is what you are looking for. Food is true to its roots, tastes like it should, flavors are simple yet elevated enough to make any foodie happy and nothing was over or under seasoned or stated in my book.
Had a very memable meal here for lunch & would go back any time! Started with a big glass of the seasonal fruit soda which combined several citus juices and soda water. Very refreshing.
Fried green tomatoes were classic.
Deviled egg sampler starts with classic eggs and moves through several seafood concepts which are all individual and unique. Smoked salmon was my fav.
Chicken and waffles were fantastic. Waffle was crisp & soft inside. Chicken was well fried, not a bit greasy and not over seasoned as to mask the high quality of the bird flavor. Syrup and classic gravy were on the side which was perfect and I mixed and matched each bite as I went. Delish.
My dining companion tried the spring spagetti squash pasta dish which was also very tasty with many layers to it. Well seasoned, veggies all tasted fresh and well cooked and when all components were eaten together - pesto, veggies, pasta, sauce & garlic toast - was perfectly salted and seasoned.
Can't wait to get after the pre-prohibition cocktail menu next time and have a longer meal. So impressive to see the time and effort go into every little detail of the ingredients & recipes here. Wish every farm to table concept took the idea so literally!
Tip: Make a reservation no matter what time or day you want to come! They always seem to be full. -

I will never really understand why Founding Farmers still has such a bad reputation. I understand those who came when it first opened up have been hesitant to try again, but for those considering testing the waters again from what I've seen:
(1) the service issues have been resolved (even with large parties)
(2) the cocktails remain kick-ass, and
(3) the food is simple but delicious.
Plus, free popcorn! -

I'd heard a lot about it and finally got a chance to dine at lunch during the week. I ordered the "simple plate" of Chicken and Quinoa with pine nuts and zuchini. The entree came with a side green salad. I was concerned that the meal would be small as they described the meals as "a little something something". Would it be enough? I have a big appetite!
The grilled chicken was a large breast simply prepared with salt and pepper - a little dry but good flavor. The bed of quinoa it was on was great - a good amount and the pine nuts were a good addition. The zuchini added texture but not a lot of flavor. And the side salad was a mix of greens with a nice dressing and small tomatoes.
My lunch partner said his tuna salad was good but I thought it was small.
I'll be back for dinner but I really enjoyed the freshness of the meal and the fact that there wasn't a lot of fat in my meal. -

I had hoped to eat a healthy lunch, so asked for their vegan menu. The choices were uninspiring and the veggie burger I ended up ordering was horrendous and accompanied by greasy French fries. My family had better luck and enjoyed their meal, as had I on previous visits. Service was great as always. Lesson: forget healthy and dig in on a burger or the like!

I'm still not sure, after two years of eating here, why people still knock founding farmers. It is my favorite restaurant in D.C. The food is always delish, the menu is big, the price point is just right, and the atmosphere is fun. I don't always get the best service here (they hire really weird/quirky servers) but I've NEVER had a bad meal here. EVER. And I come here A LOT. My roommate and I both come here on our birthdays and to celebrate special occasions - so that should tell you something right off the bat.
My favorite lunch item is the Spicy Ahi Tuna Salad. Not very much salad and tons of tuna!
Favorite drink: Dark N Stormy (they make their own ginger beer) and Bloody Mary's ... yum
New Favorite Sandwich: Reuben. It is TO DIE FOR. Melts in your freakin mouth!
Can't go wrong with any of the flatbreads - we always get one or two to share at the beginning.
Meatloaf is amazing. All the burgers are juicy and tasty.
BUT THE THING I CRAVE WHEN I WAKE UP ON SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS: RED FLANNEL HASH. I dream about this Hash. It is just so amazing with beets, goat cheese, poached eggs over leek hash browns. One time I asked them to add in the Pastrami from the non-veg hash because I wanted meat. What an amazing decision.
Listen, I hate long reviews. But I seriously love FF. Make a reservation for a weekend, or go for a breakfast during the week (one of the few places open for real breakfast) or go with co-workers for lunch. Just try it once. Or twice. -

I love the concept of this restaurant. They are conscious about using locally-sourced products and preparing everything from scratch in an eco-friendly environment.
Our server was very courteous and knowledgeable. I liked her prompt manner.
We ordered the famous beignets, which came with 3 dipping sauces (chocolate, raspberry, caramel). The crust was flaky and the center was eggy. I liked them, but donuts are better.
Bf ordered the standard breakfast fare, while I went with chicken and waffles. It was a big portion so I took half of it home. Everything was delicious and I was very happy about my dining experience... up until I went home and got very sick a couple of hours later. When I checked the chicken in my takeout box, it was pink in the middle!
WARNING: I got food poisoning at this restaurant. Make sure your poultry is cooked thoroughly before dining here. -

This was my second time dining at Founding Farmer's and it did not disappoint! It was my birthday and I "dragged" along 3 friends of mine. They were all excited to try the food! Our waitress, Jane, was very friendly, helpful and attentive.
We started out with drinks!
I had the Cranberry Cucumber Cooler, and this is definitely a drink I'd love to try to recreate. I came one time and sat at the bar, and the bartender said that they make their own cranberry juice! Somehow the cucumber really shines through, it's so refreshing! Another friend got the Arnold Palmer and she enjoyed it.
For apps we had: The popcorn of the day! It was Ranch! So soo soo good and well worth the $2. We got 2 more popcorn orders to go because it's that good.
- bacon, white bean dip, and pecorino flat bread. I've had this twice before and I don't know what is in that white bean dip but it's so flavorful. Very smoky and pares well with the thick cut bacon, apple and cheese. I need that white bean dip recipe asap.
-bacon lollis. The sweet and salty combination is a winner, and its quite chewy. A popular item on the list, and now I know why!
For my entree I was torn between the Prime Rib Dip sandwich and the Chicken Salad Salad. Jane recommended the chicken salad salad, so I went with that. So glad I did! It's a mayo based chicken salad with almonds, dried blueberries and golden beets. Even though it is mayo based, it was still somehow light. I did not feel the "full, boated" feeling after eating this. The blueberries would come out every now and then and give a hint of sweetness. I was very glad I got this and it was all just spot on. My friends got Butternut Squash-Marscarpone ravioli, the Farmhouse Grill, and the Lemon Meuniere Diver Scallops. Everyone loved their food!! My one friend wished she could have gotten more of the butternut squash risotto, it was delicious!!
I cannot wait to come back to this restaurant! I love it because their menu is full of different kinds of food, at different prices. There's something for everyone! There are so many items on the menu that I can't wait to try and some of these I consider to be such comfort food. I love that! The service has been great and the atmosphere is lovely. I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone! -

Appetizers:
Fried green tomatoes: This is the only place I've ever had these, but I thought they were delicious. The first time I came here with friends and we ate a couple and then promptly ordered another round.
Bacon lollipops: The boyfriend loves these. Reminded me a bit of sweet chinese pork jerky (yum).
Bacon wrapped dates: These are my favorite. We passed a table scarfing these down my first time here, and its been a salty sweet staple for me ever since. I've ordered this at other restaurants, but its never been as good.
Entrees:
Pot roast: Amazing. The meat falls off the bones. Perfect comfort food.
Brie, onion, and apple flatbread: I might actually just love any food that incorporates fresh apples. This was such an unexpectedly delicious mix of the creamy brie, crisp apple, and sweet onion spread.
Drinks:
Ginger ale: Savor this drink, it is perfect. -

Truly excellent, casual, creative and very tasty dishes. Love the farm to table concept and the value and authentic quality of the food, service and atmosphere is superb. Try the beignets, the sides of bacon and the french toasts. Can't say enough. Well done Farmers.
On another note, if you think the food is "bland as always," I think that you can't taste anymore from all the sausage you have had in your mouth on PA Ave., and perhaps the proteins have blocked your tastebuds. Guess I am not such an Angel. We will be back. -

We always hear so much about this restaurant from our DC friends and finally got the chance to go last fall. The food was tasty and the prices were moderate. I don't usually think of DC being a big foodie town and some of their dishes seemed average to me...but my DC friends sure seem to love it.
Service was quick and decor was unique. It's great that they are conscious about their food source and using local products. Though, I'm not sure this restaurant would get all of the attention it does now if it were in NYC. -

This is probably my favorite restaurant in DC. The quality of the food and ingredients is impeccable - case in point, the free range chicken. The bacon lolli's, chicken and waffles, and doughnuts blew me away. The mint lemonade was also icing on the cake.
It's very easy to get to using the metro, and there's also a parking lot right next to it. The service is awesome, bathrooms (take the upstairs elevator) are immaculate, and food is great. I'll definitely be back.
The only drawback is probably the wait. There is usually a long line during weekends. -
Review from Angel W.
I have been to Founding Farmers a handful of times now. I keep going back because with all of their offerings I figure something has to be good here, and I finally found it. It's the orange juice! No seriously, it's to die for! I imagine they must have some oompa loompas in the back room squeezing some precious oranges imported from some unknown land. I will never look at OJ the same. Note: based on this review someone suggested the Whole Foods freshly squeezed tangerine juice and I will say it's very similar to the FF OJ.
So enough about that, the rest of the food was bland, as always. I feel like every dish is missing two ingredients that would make all of the difference. Founding Farmers hits the mark in so many areas besides the food (flavor). This time I had the Farmer's salad with baby lettuce, avocado, dates, tomatoes, red grapes, almonds, parmesan cheese...and I substituted the Goddess dressing. Note: skip the Goddess dressing. It's so bland and nothing like the delicious Annie's Goddess dressing. They accidentally put a green olive in my salad, which was the best part. I also had the flat bread with brie, onion jam and apples. It was not that great, especially because the liquid from the jam made the bread soggy. My friend had the plank salmon and said it was very good, although $29 for a piece of fish for lunch is pricey.
Anyways, it's clear Founding Farmers will be around for a long time considering how long I had to wait to even get into the revolving door entryway...10 people come out one-by-one, 10 people go in one-by-one, and this is on a holiday week at 11:30am. They're definitely not hurting for business.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I absolutely LOVE this place. After seeing it on food network I just new I had to give it a try. I love how the restaurant combined country along with a modern vibe in regard to the decor. I also like how the bathroom is kinda quirky. Definitely FB picture stall worthy.
We started out eating fried green tomato's which were yumm. I ordered some type of seasonal fish on the menu which was so-so, but my friend ordered the chicken and waffles which were Delicious. I was all over his plate eating his food. I've tried to go back however there is usually a wait. Maybe I'll check them out this weekend so that I can also order drinks and desert. -

I'd been longing to come here for years, always jealous my city didn't have a trendy farm-to-table restaurant nearby.
My dinner here was superb, but the drinking was by far the greatest imbibing I'd done in awhile.
The bartender/mixologists/hipsterbarmen stirred up some swank cocktails that my friends and I enjoyed throughout our 3-hour meal here. The waitress was respectful of our need to stay away from anything sweet. The gin-soaked lemonade I had was delightful, my friend's champagne-based drink a delight.
Onto the food, which I wish I'd sampled more of. I had the chicken pot pie, which was okay -- my friend's meatloaf was amazing though. The pastas looked great, next time I'll have to get that.
A great experience overall -- hopefully I'll have a chance to dine here again soon! -

I've seen other reviews that complained about service, but ours was actually really good.
The pot roast was tasty, although a little salty for my tastes (but then again, I eat very little salt). The meat was super tender and there was a great mix of veggies thrown in. My dad said he really liked his chicken salad, and we split a red velvet cake that was pretty darn good.
The general atmposphere was vibrant and you could tell people were happy to be at brunch and excited about their food. -
Review from Venu N.
In the lexicon of pseudo-foodie establishments, Founding Farmers gets the premiere stop. Generating a buzz that far exceeds its relatively new age, it is clear that Founding Farmers is one of the trendiest places to go in DC for brunch, lunch, happy hour or dinner. In fact, it may soon replace tourist traps like Old Ebbitt Grill as the place to go for out-of-towners when they visit Washington DC. The question I wanted answered was whether or not the reputation was warranted.
I've only visited one time, and I will say that if you are more impressed by WHO goes to a place as opposed to WHAT is served to you, you'll probably love this place. There is no question that the amount of eye candy at this restaurant is greater than what one would find at most places in DC. I think under some circumstances, Founding Farmers would make for a nice date night.
I will say the service was great. Founding Farmers is a busy restaurant, and the individuals working the front efficiently manage the crowd assembled at the front of the restaurant without a hint of rudeness. Moreover, the actual servers are friendly, helpful and willing to work with you. For example, I was in a time crunch and they were able to help us with our bill and packaging with minimal assistance.
The food is simply average. We started with a banana marshmallow chocolate concoction served over a multi-grain bread. Although I actually liked the use of the multi-grain bread, that was not the only sentiment at the table. So we definitely had a mixed review on that one. In any event, it wasn't stellar.
I made the mistake or ordering a dish I cherish at Founding Farmers (fried chicken and waffles). The best preparation I have ever tried is at The Breakfast Klub in Houston, Texas where the spicy coating from the chicken gets a sweet sugary finish from the syrup which serves a secondary purpose of softening the waffle. The resulting combination from that dish is a remarkable combination of grainy, meaty, sweet, and spicy that must be experienced to be appreciated.
As an initial matter, Founding Farmers doesn't serve their chicken and waffles with syrup but rather opts for cream gravy. That's fine. Many places only use cream gravy. The bigger issue is that the waffle lacked any discernible flavor on its own merits and had an awkward finish with the cream gravy. I ended up disposing of the entire waffle. The boneless fried chicken had a decent skin, tasted pan-fried and reminded me of a slightly bastardized version of my beloved Texas dish, chicken fried chicken (which, in turn, is a bastardization of Texas-style chicken fried steak). The chicken on its own was pretty good though. I wish the cream gravy had a bit more black pepper though.
Overall, if you like your food all-American, you will probably love this place. Under certain circumstances, it definitely is a low-risk factor for a date. And maybe that is why it gets a bunch of hype. If your palate is a bit more well-traveled, however, you are more than likely going to be at least marginally disappointed. -

Mmmm. I really liked Founding Farmers! I'm not sure why there's not that many 5 star reviews.
After seeing the close to 1500 reviews, I requested that we stop here for brunch with some friends and some of my umich friends. It's right next to the IMF building (which is gorgeous) and it's an upbeat, hip, place with nice strong wood tables to have brunch at.
What I liked about it too was that the restaurant is one of those "all natural" restaurants. Their eggs were cage free, they make everything with sustainable ingredients, etc etc. The range of food was pretty crazy too- it went from your typical omelette brunch items to southern food like that of beignets and shrimp and grits AND to top it off, they had my fave coffee- intelligentsia. He saw it and was like, "Rachael, it's your fave!" so of COURSE, I ordered it. And we ordered a plate of hot fresh beignets for the table, complete with signature powdered sugar and dipping sauces of chocolate, raspberry and caramel.
We split an florentine eggs benedict- it was good- good eggs, fresh ingredients, and yes, their homemade english muffins are quite tasty. I tried other samples of people's food and it also made a great fresh impression on me. The best though, by far, was the New Orleans stuffed french toast. Fellow yelper Alan W.'s friend ordered it, and holy cow, it was a huge stuffed french toast, that wasn't really oily, and it was just amazing and to die for. That, by far, stole the show for me. hahahha.
Mmmm. I really liked this place for brunch. It's fresh, hip, and tasty. Five stars! -

In Five words...
Hip, Tasty, Eco-chic, Cool, Value
Just got home from Founding Farmers and I would have to say I was pretty impressed. The place was packed so I would recommend making a reservation in advance (we did). We were seated promptly in the upstairs area and I right away I could tell this play had a cool, unique vibe.
We heard the following mix of songs while we were there...
Under the bridge- Chili Peepers
Stairway to Heaven-Zepplin
Let it Rock- Kevin Rudolph & Little Wayne
Needless to say they were all over the place. Which I thought was cool. We had the combo deviled eggs where were a great starter and all were tasty in their own right (normal with salmon bits, lobster, crab). I had the pan fried chicken and waffles which is what the server noted as the most popular dish. Very Tasty. I honestly can say I don't think I would have changed a thing about it. My better half had the rotisserie chicken, while good, didn't stand a flame to my dish. Founding Farmers had a good deal of custom cocktails as well which was cool. I had a absinthe, gin, and egg white creation that was pretty refreshing (the millionaire).
This place was pretty darn good and I was wavering on 5 but since I only have been there once I am not sure if it is consistent. Additionally, our service left a little to be desired in that we were in need of drinks and refills multiple times. I would also say that the vibe sometimes seemed a bit to contrived, but maybe I am being ridiculous. Overall this was a great experience and I would definitely go back.
Do you like good food and cool vibes and love the environment and want to be cool and have fancy cocktails?

Review from Danny F.
This is a tried and true average-joe gourmet establishment. It's not five stars, and there are no all-white table covers. The bathrooms even seem to resemble those you'd find in a barn.
After walking around the monuments, the idea was thrown around to eat someplace in the relative area. I'd heard of this place because of their chicken & waffles, so we came here after a short cab ride. While in the cab, I was able to OpenTable this place for a reservation... within minutes of arrival. Walk in, get a drink at the bar, and even before the bartender can get out your beer, you're told the table is ready. I'm definitely using OpenTable again.
The vibe of the restaurant is very welcoming. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. Overall, there's never a feeling of insecurity in your choice of dining. I knew this place was going to be good, just like everyone around me and those before me knew, too.
The menu is not large enough to confuse and not small enough to settle. There were many good options and the waiter was committed on helping us get what we wanted. Even though I personally was set on the pan-fried chicken and waffles. We also ordered fried green tomatoes.
The drink menu is no side note. They seem to have taken their time with the beers, and the mixed drinks look like they too have been well thought over.
Everything came out hot, and on time. The fried green tomatoes were excellent. Perfect as an appetizer. Nice and crisp. And hot. I'm going to mention this because anything hot was well-received by a group of tourists coming from the cold streets of wintertime DC.
The chicken and waffles made my day, of course. The chicken hardly had any bones (if any), the mac and cheese was excellent, and the sweet potato I had as my side was great, too. I gotta say, though, I wish the gravy wasn't so thick and the syrup so thin. But the flavor was there, so no point in complaining so much.
All in all, this was a great choice and I would return again if I had the chance. -

Food Good! Service Bad!!
The food is really good. This is a great place for brunch. Atmosphere is very nice. However, even with a reservation I've always had to wait at least 15 minutes which is annoying. Also, the service here is about the worst I've ever had in DC. I usually have to ask someone who is not my server to refill my water or to bring me a drink that I ordered 20 minutes earlier. The last time I was there they messed up my order but because the waiter disappeared for a half hour I couldn't even send it back so just sucked it up and ate it anyway.
They close brunch at EXACTLY 2pm so even though you can make reservations at 2pm you can't get brunch which is annoying. This could be a 5* place, but the terrible service and crappy brunch hours subtract a star. -

What a let down for such a fine looking establishment. A little please and thank you, or sorry for our errors could have gone a long way to salvage this review. First, It took 45 minutes to receive red red flannel hash ($12) that the bartender obviously knew was running late, but no apologies or let me buy your coffee. Then they brought me the wrong breakfast, and i had to wait more. Then to end the meal, no smile or thank you to end my $30 solo breakfast, just a dead pan drop the check.... I'm sure there is something going on here, just not sure what it is. Or! maybe no other breakfast joint in the area?...

We went for breakfast on a busy Sunday morning. The wait was ridiculous so we sat at the bar. I couldn't help but notice the many vacated tables that stayed empty while the other customers waited in ignorance in the lobby. :1 star for service
Anyway, I was happy to be served at the bar as It is always a more comfortable experience. The breakfast was just all right: 1 star for the entrees.
The Bloody Marys were just right: 5 stars
The only other standouts were the home made English muffins and the beignets
They are made-to-order donuts served with Raspberry Coulis, Semi-Sweet Chocolate Sauce and Caramel Sauce: 5 stars
Total star average 2.5
I predict that if I ever, on the odd chance, need bloody marys and donuts, I will be back. -

My husband and I ate at Yelp for an early Saturday dinner (4:30pm). The food was good, but not "incredible." Everywhere in the restaurant was packed and it was more of a loud bar scene than somewhere for a nice dinner. I would recommend yelp for a group of friends or for lunch.

Really outstanding food, great cocktails, and excellent service! We ordered several appetizers, a couple signature "prohibition style" cocktails, and 2 main entrees.
Mussels with Chorizo: Amazing
Fried Green Tomatoes: Average
Flatbread w/ Mascarpone, Prosciutto, and Figs: Sublime
Organic Cucumber Delight Cocktail: Crisp, refreshing, and delicious
"The Bone" Cocktail: Spicy, sour, and unique (bacon lollipop garnish was perfect)
Mahi Mahi main entree: HUGE portion of fish, perfectly cooked, moist and tasty.
Shrimp and grits with Andouille sausage: The best I've ever had (yes, better than New Orleans).
I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Very upscale, modern, and busy. Our waitress/server was super friendly, attentive and very professional. Prices are actually very reasonable, and the ambiance and decor are spectacular. Make sure you get a reservation, because this place gets packed during dinner hours. -

My new fav brunch spot.
Two words: Peach. Bellini!
It takes A LOT for me not to order the Fried Chicken, Eggs and Waffles every time I go. Once, I tried the "The Hangover Special" and decided to really surf around the menu. Each item held its own, but the chili really made it POP. God, it was good...and I wasn't hungover.
The B Baby's Beignets were just as good as Café DuMonde in New Orleans (only with way less powdered sugar). The Semi-Sweet Chocolate Sauce and Caramel Sauce on-the-side are really good. I can do without the Raspberry Coulis, though -- which is odd, because I usually like raspberry sauces. Not a deal breaker though, that's for sure.
I wouldn't suggest this location for groups, unless you've made prior arrangements with the restaurants. It's perfect for couples and parties of maybe 2-4. -

Don't forget that FF does a nice breakfast. Rather than face the hordes during dinner, breakfast is a nice experience. I had the buttermilk pancakes. They were huge. But, they were also very good. Big pancakes usually mean rubber-like discs. These were fluffy and light. Real maple syrup. Yes. What about a whole grain option?

I feel a bit odd about my experience at founding farmers. my sister could not stop talking about how amazing it is and how no one has ever disliked anything there. So I had high expectations. We were told we HAD to get the deviled eggs which were a total let down, not bad by any means just not worth all the hype.
That was the theme for the evening, "not worth the hype" nothing was bad just not the best ever. The butternut squash raviolis were awfully sweet, the steak was ok and the pastrami was pretty great. The dessert was amazing though, seasonal cobbler with pear and cranberry, too good. Check it out, good mission and pretty good food, just don't expect the world. -

I visited a friend in D.C. and we stopped in on a Monday night around 7:30 pm for dinner. Unfortunately, we didn't have reservations and it was PACKED. Luckily, we decided to have a drink there (the drink menu was too great to pass up) and while we were sipping on cocktails, two spots opened up at the bar. I actually recommend sitting at the bar here- the bartenders were really friendly, pleasant to talk with, and very knowledgeable about all the food and drink offerings.
I ordered Last Word cocktail-it's made with Gin 209 and Green Chartreuse, amongst other things. Very tasty. For the more daring drinkers, the bar serves multiple drinks with egg whites and bacon.
For dinner, I had Chicken and Quinoa-Zucchini-Pine Nut Salad. The chicken was kind of dry and flavorless, but the grain/salad was delicious and worth the order.
Low key, organic and locally grown food, unique and yummy cocktails... what's not to love?
